      This is fake. That gun has casting seams all down the middle of the "barrel" and the grip. And the crusty stuff you're hammering off (and if that were a real firearm, you wouldn't be hammering that stuff off for fear of damaging the firearm, you'd soak it in some kind of solution) is metallic in sheen, so it would catch the magnet.
      You fabricated this toy into a crusty mess, then threw it in the water where you "found" it magnet-fishing, and it IS a toy. It isn't a real firearm.
      Don't lie to people for views and ad revenue. That's not cool, dude.
      Also, when you begin to grind at the thing, you can EASILY TELL that the cylinder is part of the main body; it's all one piece.
      That's a pewter toy. You added powdered steel to the crusty stuff you encrusted that toy with, so it would catch the magnet. Because pewter doesn't magnetise, and that is CLEARLY pewter.

    Try soaking things in vinegar for a couple days to dissolve the rust instead of using force.

  • @Chaedron1

    I'm going to say that is a toy gun because it looks like the gun was made in two parts which you can see with the seam and then screwed together and the cylinder doesn't look like it is made to move. Its still a nice find and possibly from the 50s, too bad the barrel broke. Oh well, you live you learn. Great video, hope to see you do more.

    What a pity breaking off those parts 😢 might I suggest that you use an old chisel and go length ways down the piece that should clean the project but not bang down on it from above and breaking the more thinner weeker parts that the rust had already caused the project to be very frail try that and see how it works out for you

    Once I realized how small it was I figured it was a toy, but still a great find, considering how old those old metal toy guns are.

    • @TallicatGames
      @TallicatGames Рік тому

      It IS a toy. And it is made out of pewter. Pewter doesn't catch magnets. He took some kind of silicate, and maybe porcelain or some other medium, mixed some dirt or rust powder into it, then added powdered steel to it, then threw it into the river so he could "find" it magnet fishing.
      He's lying to people.

    • @patrickkirkby102
      @patrickkirkby102 Рік тому

      @@TallicatGames Prove it? That sounds like a lot of work to get people to watch his video even though they were going to watch it anyways.

    • @TallicatGames
      @TallicatGames Рік тому

      @@patrickkirkby102 Just watch the video and pay attention. The stuff on the outside of the pewter toy has metal in it. It has to, because the toy itself is made of pewter and pewter doesn't magnetise. That isn't pewter oxidation... and if something had sat in a river or lake for any length of time, it definitely wouldn't be encrusted like that. And it wouldn't be laden with enough metal to be caught by the magnet.
      All of those things would be impossible UNLESS he'd created the crusty stuff, and then planted the toy.

    • @patrickkirkby102
      @patrickkirkby102 Рік тому

      @@TallicatGames That's a real stretch. He restored this one on his other channel, and I'm pretty certain it's more than just pewter.
      Tracking down an antique toy gun and covering it in some magic crust is way more work than it would be worth. There's no way he did that.
      Edit: I got confused and forgot which channel I was commenting on, Still pretty doubtful that he faked it.

    • @TallicatGames
      @TallicatGames Рік тому

      @@patrickkirkby102 It isn't, actually. There are plenty of videos detailing how that kind of trickery is done BY 'restoration' channels. It's relatively easy and simple and, if they get enough views, they can afford to 'destroy' something just to restore it in a video.
      It's relatively simple to tell, too. Firstly, that is 100% pewter. I guarantee it. Especially given how easily it was broken while he was picking the suspiciously metallic crust off of it.
      It isn't a real firearm either, nor is it a pop gun. It's a pewter toy gun. It is CLEARLY pewter.
      If you'd like to see a video illustrating how easy it is to create a fake 'antique' to restore, I'll link it for you.

  • @stephenmartini5890
    @stephenmartini5890 9 місяців тому

    Tyler, why don't you start off by soaking in electrolytes bath then, using a wire wheel to grind off the crud then, fine taps with a plastic mallet. This way you won't destroy the piece by smashing it with a hammer. Obviously, this is a toy gun seen by the crease down the middle. Also, using a sharp pick and hammer puts scratches on it. And, you should cover you vise jaws with a thick layer of tape to cushion you piece. Again, destroying a fine collectable. I like watching you clean your finds but, you go about it in a wrong way. Look up ways to clean then go from there. It may be better in the outcome.
