  • First, I want to note that for some reason, the unit did not record the loop section of the solo.
For that reason, I had to re-record the loop based on the solo so I apologize for any timing mistakes...
I hope you enjoy this video, I tried to do stuff differently this time and I hope you enjoy it!

NUX: If it had an XLR out, I would 100% get it. It is the one thing I need that is not in the POD GO for me to get it as a backup rig for my Helix Floor. I agree with the video that drum machine is unnecessary. I would prefer being able to have multiple delays, etc. Disagree with the snapshots comment. Snapshots is the reason I would not go back to an analog rig.

@@Goldensword18 hey bud, I'm pretty sure everything you mentioned would have to bring the price up, I would say that these things would also require new software and new hardware.. perhaps, if sales numbers for the MG30 are favorable, we might see a better flagship model with a more flexible signal chain, more switches, more effects and an advanced switching mode at a higher price point.. I guess we would have to wait and see but for now, at this pricepoint, I don't see any competition for this unit. Cheers!

Great and honest review thanks. I will say I’m not a fuzz guy and as a home player I would like more drums . But our differences make life interesting. hey there, hope you're doing well! thanks for the comment! The drums are definitely a cool practice tool! I'm actually sticking with the MG30 since it's way more affordable and sounds really good even though it's much more limiting than the Stomp. I think the tones you can get out of this justify for it not being as flexible. If I'm honest with myself, I never use a lot of effects, most of my presets consist of an amp model, overdrive pedal and reverb so for now, the Nux will suffice. Cheers man, thanks for hanging out!

Thanks for cutting through the hype on this unit. Not to blame the other UA-camrs making semi-promotional videos, they definitely have their place, but a video as well thought out as this from an end user is pure gold. Hey man! Thank you so much man, I appreciate it! I believe that the product delivered to it's hype, I think it's a very nice product that I'll actually keep! I also understand the guys that got this directly from the company, they had to leave a good impression and they were lucky because there isn't much to criticize about this. With that being said, I feel like a reviewer should point out the most important things no matter if they are good or bad. Thumbs up for the honest and in depth review! No one has been talking about the bad side of MG30 so far so kudos to that! I think MG30 is more for players who just want plug and play with minimal setup while HX is targeted towards more for intermediate advanced players. HX is a unit that can actually grow with you and contains amazing flexibility! As a stand alone unit I'll go with NuX, but HX just has limitless potential! Both are great!!!

I think this point in the video is a bit exaggerated. The HX Stomp is definitely not a device with limitless potential. To the contrary. With its dingle DSP and therefore small block limit many of the things you theoretically _could_ do will not work in practice. And with all this limits it does cost nearly two times as much as the NUX MG30.... bugger I could buy two NUX MG30 and create two chains with them for that price ^^

I think they would have to be. Considering it's an entire rig modeller in itself, any patches that include amp modelling and an IR would sound pretty terrible running through a guitar amp, the only practical way to run them would directly into a PA.

    • @mattgilbert7347
      @mattgilbert7347 2 роки тому +1

Where do the XLRs go? I use XLR to TRS! I plug the TRS end(s) into the line input(s) of the mixer that then goes to two 500W FRFR powered PA speakers.
My NUX Solid Studio IR loader and Humboldt Simplifier have XLR outs, but my GFI Cabzeus Stereo only has TRS outs (that one I go TRS-to-TRS).

For those who play in live settings, these two serve different purposes. The NUX MG-30 is a all-in-one, easy to carry, plug & Play solution. The HX Stomp is better as an addition to an existing rig. For studio and bedroom warriors you may prefer the "extra sound" you get from Line 6, even if you pay more and get not expression pedal.

I am looking at the MG30 because to get an HX Stomp I'd have to sell an amp and several pedals.
The HX Stomp seems complicated. I don't have any experience with advanced modellers. Always use an amp if possible, or a preamp pedal into an IR loader or an amp+cab sim device like the Humboldt Simplifier at the end of my regular pedalboard.
I had a NUX Cerberus and hated the drives and the mods could not be re-routed. It also had a problem with presets -you lost Tap Tempo! You had to go into "Edit" mode.
    Sold it.
DSP Fuzzface is heresy so that's not a deal breaker lol ;)

They both are limited in different ways. The Stomp with its single DSP just can't handle that many blocks. This means you can create chains in the MG30 that cannot be done in the Stomp. On the other side: The MG30 has some restrictions regarding multiple usage of some effects. The only block that you can use two times is the drive block. You cannot use e.g two different Amps, IRs, gates, delays... there is though the model of their NUX duotime in... which is two delays in one block. With the quite low block limit in the Stomp, there isn't much chance to use multiple blocks of the same kind too. Its different trade offs, but essentially similar limited.

finally someone mentions what I suspected and couldn't confirm in the manual. Effects types are locked in to their respective block, which is a major let down for me and likely makes this a pass. My nearly ten year old HD500X and Zoom MS-100BT can do any effect you want anywhere you want. I guess the MG-30 is just not for me, which is a shame since I liked that they offer something other than an Ampeg bass amp like every other modeler on the planet outside of Zoom. Great stuff...
Only thing u could have maybe added...
& I could be wrong here

Is the line 6 the same?
I know I've ordered mine now, but I'm not against buying a 2nd unit by say line 6 and seeing if I can connect them together lol

Many good points. One thing though: The HX Stomp has only 6 Blocks - one of them is Amp&Cab. This leaves 5 for delay, drive, gate, mod, reverb, compressor and EQ. The result: it is similar restricted as the stomp in this case, just with different trade offs.
You are absolutely right about the community. One part of that equation is... we! 😉

    • @aptfx

@@MarkRigler Thats what many don't get when new budget models come out. I don't know how often I did hear "but Kemper, Helix (full) or Fractal is still better". The Stomp is near the budget modellers like Ampero, GE200 and now MG30. There still is a range between them: Stomp is significantly more expensive than GE200 or MG30 and this does not in all things converts into value. There are a lot of good devices now in this price range.

    • @aptfx
      @aptfx 3 роки тому

@@MarkRigler absolutely. The Stomp already is nearly double the price of the MG30. I think the bespoken flexibility of the chain isn't really a thing with the 1 dsp Stomp. You get alot more Amps and Effects though. I do use TH-U on iOS to get a huge amount of Amps and Effects and the MG30 is a really good low latency audio interface to use with that thing. This even makes extensive multi amp chains possible.

Line 6 is made better and maybe it has more options I'll give you that .. but sound wise no comparison not even in the same ballpark nux is unbelievable people.. if you want to make it your rig IDK more options may be better but if u want tone don't get line 6

I wish the Helix and Nux both released an amp modelling/sim platform only (like HX Effects, but HX amps) so they would focus more on the amp models and cabinets then we'll just hook up our favorite pedals. That would be cool to have and these 2 companies are great at amp modeling at their respective price points
Besides we, well I personally aim to have a lighter rig

hello everyone, total 5 footswitches (including 2 external). My preference is stompbox mode. Can this be done with nux mg30?
    1 delay
    1 boost (eq or comp)
    1 chorus
    1 overdrive/distortion
    1 reverb
