I'm a helix user but came to this because the lead guitarist in a band I recently rehearsed with was using one of these and does live. It's an impressive pedal for relatively not much money. It's more than just a bedroom toy.
Excellent comment at the end. I am playing music just for fun after the day job or with my band and I was looking for some simulations to board to avoid carrying a full pedalboard or switching on a computer fulfilled with vst. I just need something that sounds great, easy to use and easy to move. Looking at different options such as the Kemper, the quad cortex or the headrush pedalboard but it is overkill compared what I require: a simple effect chain and some customization to get the sound I like. This unit seems compiling everything for intermediate players, with decent quality (I am pretty sure most people cannot win a blind test between this one and the other I mentioned) and at a veeerrrryyyy affordable price. Thanks for playing live to illustrate that !
Absolutely first class review. This guy is simply the best when it comes to reviewing stuff. I don't actually buy anything unless I see him review it first!!!!
Man there's only 2 ppl on youtube you can trust to have the knowledge and intention to tear a piece of gear apart and make a good review of it. you and henning pauly
Tks a lot for the test. Really like the way you show dialing 1 crunchy sound and a cleanish sound. Very natural and more appealing to me than most other demo.
Excellent review. Your closing monologue nailed it. I don't want to spend the better part of $1k on an HX/POD something or other so I can come home after work and enjoy playing music. Yet I want something near that quality (expansive tastes, small budget). This seems to be right in the ball park when you look at features.sounds vs. price. You also demonstrated a nice range of sounds. Just really enjoyed the review. Thanks!!
@@LeonToddHi pal. I was wondering in this price range or up to about £400 ish which modular do you find best? I’m looking at the Ampero 2 but some of these cheaper ones so good as well. Thanks
I’m digging this unit brother Leon! When you said stereo detune and CH-1 I was sold!I thought this unit sounded really good you also mentioned it has that dual delay pedal in it that you demonstrated not to long ago I really liked that pedal also.Great video as always you should definitely do another one on this unit!Rock on I may get this and plug it into my Boss Katana 100!🤘
Thanks for the in depth demo bro! You got into a few details other reviewers overlooked. I play for my church and like to noodle on the side. I think this is such a flexible unit that you really could gig it happily. I'm thinking of buying one to have a more consistent sound at church, since I can dial in my settings at home and not worry if the church mics are coloring my tone. I think this unit is solid for intermediate players who are curious about different gear (amps & cabs & pedals) but not able to commit to the large purchases. I used to have a $2000 rig that I sold to pay for my wedding. I think this would easily replicate & replace the whole thing for a fraction of the price.
Considering one of these vs an FM3 as a backup for my axe fx and to have something portable. I've watched enough videos that I'd almost written it off until I saw this and it just got complicated again. Fantastic job of showing off how good the core amp sounds can sound! Really. At the end of the day, the raw amps are what I want to hear, and I got that here, thanks!
@@LeonTodd Thanks for the reply, I think you just talked me into the FM3. I felt pretty certain the FM3 was better, but didn't want to put you on the spot with a question like is the MG-30 good "enough" as that's so subjective. I'd hate to grab a Nux and everytime I play think it's not as good as my axe fx.
If my memory servers me right, I think a brand new BOSS Delay costs more than the MG-300, if not the same. I'm saving up for the MG-30 and ,now after watching your video, I think I just might settle for the -300. I dunno. I'm torn. Argh! But awesome content man. Keep it going!
Great review Leon. However you didn’t mention that the unit also has bass amps which is great for musos that dable in both camps. I can’t wait for this unit...plug and play. Awesome channel Leon. Keep it going.
I also started my journey with a zoom 707. I have a pedalboard setup, last year got myself a mooer pe100 for travel. Then bought a NU>X mg30 for rehearsals.. Didn’t start to explore the mg30 yet.
Very good video. Clear with what moves are being made, good sounds/tweaks, and good preview of the device for the viewer. Might be getting one of those. Particularly for its metal tone. Those amp sims sound like real amps don't they.
I'm really looking forward to trying this out when they become available for purchase in the US. I was blown away by the MG-300. Notwithstanding the cheap plastic case, I was able to get more convincing amp tones with a better play feel than I could with the Helix. The Friedman, Uberschall and Budda amp models are all great fun to play through and sound amazing when matched with the right IRs. The external effects loop is the deal clincher for me - being able to integrate this with my analog drive pedals and amps will make it so much more versatile.
Hey Leon. Had to check this out. Now that I'm retiring I'm trying to decide which of these type of units to get.. It's between this one, the GX100 by boss and the Headrush MX5. I really can't defend spending that money though on an amp modeler, but if I don't find what I want, then I may go that route.. Either way, I'll be using your cab IR's for sure sir! Also, I'll be using your video's to learn.. I love that LP.. What a beautiful guitar, and those pickups not having covers just reminds me of my youth and Kiss.. I just love it.. Of course, I'm a guitar pig and love all guitars almost.. 🙂 I would love to see you do a video on the Headrush MX5. I don't think you've done a video on that have you? Thanks for what you do sir.. for what you do.. You really help a lot my friend.. I totally trust your video's and opinions on this stuff sir! You're a genius my friend. Great playing too as always! Difficult question to answer because with all the fx units on the market in all price ranges, the right decision is in each ones pocket. Fun fact, if you were to use this unit as a backup for FM3 playing live, it would be fun if no one noticed the change ...
The $300 price point has so many options.... I dunno, I feel like for my money as a hobbyist, I'd lean more towards the NUX Cerberus or BOSS ME-80 or FlyRig.
This is just the best channel. Man, I think it sounds really good. I am impressed actually. Of course, your great chops always helps and allows me to really listen to the hardware. Great stuff. Mmmmm... Mostly use cleans with a little Larry Carltonish OD. The Deluxe Reverb sounded pretty nice. Might beat out the MG300 there. Need to see more. Wish the demos had more clean, ambient and smooth OD sounds. Been looking at these units as an alternative to my large pedal board, which I’m tired of carrying around. My pedals have nice warm tones. Hopefully I can make that work with the NUX pedals. Your reflection and comments at the end got me thinking. I can create great tones with my pedal board but I struggle with complicated ambient tones. Swells, doubling, lust reverb sounds with other things happening inside it are tough to create and more importantly control. I think that’s where these pedals come in. A one button press to get those complex tones is worth it. Then if they can replicate my OD, chorus and other basic tones like a Fender Deluxe or TWIN, then I may make the switch.
I usually use stereo slapback delay, at 100ms, 0-1 feedback (to shortened the repeat) and use 40-50% level/volume, you got that reverb/room ambient in stereo, instead of using reverb
Leon! Your reviews are top notch man! Here’s my story: So I had to let my Fractal FM3 due to my GF’s health issues and expenses. Yeah, the same one that was graciously gifted to me.😣 Also had to liquidate most of my guitars, all my amps & pedals so yeah… It’s been a bummer. Lo and behold I was looking at this NU>X unit and there you are again! Ha! Your vids helped me tremendously grasping the optional paralysis of the FM3, and whilst I know this unit isn’t a fair comparison? What do you honestly think? The amp NU>X amp academy (Cough! Atomic Firebox clone. Cough!) also looks appealing, as does the BOSS IR-2. Although the USA retailer zZounds has freaking Katana Artist MkII heads for stupid low with now interest payments. Halp! My brain hurts! Lmao!
Thank you for this video. Lovely sounds. Price was fantastic at start. Now it's more expensive... You said zoom 707? My first pedal. I have it as an artefact.
Great demo, great unit... Just confusing marketing on Nux's part. So the 30 is a bigger unit than the 300? if it weren't for the price, better check the picture first before ordering online
Let's hear some tones! This sounds really good! Modelers at lower price points are really starting to be great alternatives for all types of players. Great choices out there outside the big 3. 👍
Hi Leon! If MG30 is around x3 times more expensive than MG300, is it x3 times better sounding? Only talking about sound, excluding case and connectivity. Thanks in advance for your comments!
@@LeonTodd don't know about that but I know why you were confused a bit. You sound as good if not better than your fractal videos. Check it out with headphones... The fractal is not overkill for a lot of pro situations but it is not 7 or 8 or even 2 times better than this pos here lol. I am very surprised. I don't need it but I am intrigued.
Good Review... I have and FM9 and love it but I can't get it on my carry-on or take it on a budget airline to go to CA from AZ. ( I can borrow a guitar and powered speaker but the pedal that has all my tone)
Yes I agree about budda being a good sleeper amp.. I own a superdrive 18.. its amazing with that friedman designed front end.. I love that amp.. plus it's much louder than 18 watts suggests.. great demo 👍.. oh ya and off topic but u should pick up a caline Leon drive.. its actually a decent ocd clone
I realise you did this video a coupla years or so ago, but long story short which is almost an impossible ask for me, anyhow last week I was in my local Cashy's looking for bargains as my eagle-eye & knowing what gear & stuff is really truly worth especially instruments amps gear etc & my canny serendipity sheer luck or more arse than class leads me to more than many a great score & always has done... sometimes it makes me wonder do these folks working in Cashy's have a clue what music gear is worth do they care or are they philanthropists in disguise? I'm not so naiive or ignorant to think they don't look up the latest going prices on new / used models but I as I perused their pedals & gadgetry in the big glass case I espied one of these NU-X MG-30 modelers with the plastic shrink wrap still around the never opened box (they were retailing roughly 500-clams new in local music stores) so I couldn't part with 4 pineapples fast enough! 200-clams is all I paid & I didn't even have the common decency to wear a balaclava & gloves! Brand New 200-clams I nearly fell over - when I got home & tried it out I f*$%in' did fall over - it kicks arse m8. Despite my initial (and I found later on completely unnecessary) skepticism of the NU-X brand cranking out my first chords on the 01A 1st preset I thought that sounds as mad as a cut snake!. Forget skeptical, now I reckon it's the bee's knees lizard's gizzards & ducks nuts. Or, rather more like it, it's the ducks nux? I've always sworn by Boss stuff for my multi's & stomps due to their sheer durability whilst sounding great & seeing this MG-30 is built like a brick shithouse I smiled knowing I'll break my toes before I break this board. Btw presets 03A 03B 03C & 03D are absolutely off-tap 80's-Clean Blues- Plexi- & Uber-Chunk kick all kinds of arse, just great as they are & only very minor tweaking needed if any at all. What a genius made those 4 I wonder?.. Thanks, Leon, for I scored a good bargain & something worth having that's as tough as anything Boss make, peace respect & be nice to ya missus.🤘 🎸Didjabringyabongalong Station, Central Queensland, Oz 🦘
If you have tried it also, how does this unit compare to a line 6 firehawk fx? I have that currently, and it does everything I want, but I feel the only real way to change settings is by connecting a phone via Bluetooth and through the app. I'd rather be able to change more easier via the effects board itself. Great video 👌
Hi, love your channel. I have had the MG30 for about a year now, but never really played with it until now. Question: IR's are only relevant in a live gig (or recording) situation if you are plugged into the PA - ie not your guitar amp, which is made redundant?
Have you had any problems with clipping running into a DAW? Theres a DB meter when you press on the #4 parameter knob when it's in the home screen for the patch. If you know q way to fix thet please let me know.
Hello Leon! For use in a live show with the mg30 on the floor, would you happen to know how to switch presets using one of the foot switches? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the detailed video. I have two questions: [1] Is it possible to change/add effects and amps in S2 and S3, so these are significantly different than the S1 patch? [2] Is it would be possible to assign NMP-2 with A and B to bank up and down and the footswitches on the pedal from left to right assigned to change patches, ie, 1A, 1B, 1C, and 1D (double press control switch). So when I press B, then 2A, 2B, 2C, and 2D are available, and so on. This would be much better for a live situation.
Great demo Leon! especially your comments at the end. There are a lot of choices out there and it seems there is one for every situation you can think of. I will say that it's not for me, I prefer the sounds from FAS products myself.
You all probably dont give a shit but does someone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I was dumb lost my account password. I would love any assistance you can give me!
@Ian Benicio I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im trying it out atm. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I was thinking of getting the BOSS GX100, but before I dump a huge amount of cash on one, should I consider this one first before I pull the trigger on the BOSS unit? I don't gig - as of yet, and the furthest I could go in a professional setting is doing sessions for local talents which I do mostly these days. Will this suffice, or I'll regret not getting the BOSS? FYI, this would be one of those "you make it or break it" moments, so I have to make the right/best decision.
I bought a Nux Cerberus back in December to run at Church. It sounds great, but I would love the option to use a modulated delay, a detune, or like a Rat distortion on the occasional song. So this might be just right for the price. Can't really justify a Hx Stomp right now with bills and keyboards I want
So if you are someone like me who just wants a multi fx with expression pedal can you use this without any amp/cab sims? I just want to run straight into the effects loops of my physical amp head. Reverbs, delays, wahs etc. That's all I want.
Hi i have nux mg30 too but i have problem when i connect it to mixer. I dont have any problem connecting it to amplifier everything sounds amazing but when i connect it to a mixer the volume is incredibly so low. What can i do about it ? I have tried 2 mixers and it did the same thing again.
Hello. I have two questions about Nux MG-30 product. Can I use an external wah pedal simultaneously with NMP-2 Switch? Can I use NMP-2 switch as a continuous part of the Nux MG-30 for using like a patch mode? For example, 1. and 2. patch will come from Nux, 3. and 4. patch will come from NMP-2 switch. So I can have 4 patches on board like 1-2-3-4. Best regards.
❤️frm 🇮🇳 India Sir. Im confused among Boss Gt1, Zoom G3xn, and Nux MG 30. Pls suggest the best one out of these 3. Which one has the nicest tones? Which one will b a better buy? Pls help Sir. Thnx in advance 🙏
Been following this unit as thinking of putting together a small backup rig to my Kemper. Had some nice tones but when you dialled up that Uber I was like “sold!!!” This with a small power amp that can drive a 4x12 would certainly carry a show nicely.
Hmm So would u say this isn't actually good enough for professional standard recording? That's all I want it for And it's been ordered now lol But it seemed the best option for recording, now I'm asking Is it more like a very high quality toy lol or learning tool, with some pro stuff thrown in there?

The fractal is not overkill for a lot of pro situations but it is not 7 or 8 or even 2 times better than this pos here lol.
I am very surprised. I don't need it but I am intrigued.
Great vid Leo u have a new subscriber! I just ordered one from swamp👍
Great Video, Does the MG30 have a model of the Dynacomp compressor?
Great video!! What do You think hx stomp vs nux MG 30??
Pod Go?
I learned many things here thank you bro
My pleasure
Surprisingly good tone ...
Great video thank you
Good Review... I have and FM9 and love it but I can't get it on my carry-on or take it on a budget airline to go to CA from AZ. ( I can borrow a guitar and powered speaker but the pedal that has all my tone)
Bit in love with the top of that les paul 😍
It's stellar hey
So you cant turn on and off the Fxs with the footswitches ? Really digging the tones btw ! A great professional review !
I realise you did this video a coupla years or so ago,
but long story short which is almost an impossible ask for me,
anyhow last week I was in my local Cashy's looking for bargains as my
eagle-eye & knowing what gear & stuff is really truly worth especially instruments amps gear etc & my canny serendipity sheer luck or more arse than class leads me to more than many a great score & always has done... sometimes it makes me wonder do these folks working in Cashy's have a clue what music gear is worth do they care or are they philanthropists in disguise? I'm not so naiive or ignorant to think they don't look up the latest going prices on new / used models but I as I perused their pedals & gadgetry in the big glass case I espied one of these NU-X MG-30 modelers with the plastic shrink wrap still around the never opened box (they were retailing roughly 500-clams new in local music stores) so I couldn't part with 4 pineapples fast enough! 200-clams is all I paid & I didn't even have the common decency to wear a balaclava & gloves!
Brand New 200-clams I nearly fell over - when I got home & tried it out I f*$%in'
did fall over - it kicks arse m8. Despite my initial (and I found later on completely unnecessary) skepticism of the NU-X brand cranking out my first chords on the 01A
1st preset I thought that sounds as mad as a cut snake!.
Forget skeptical, now I reckon it's the bee's knees lizard's gizzards & ducks nuts.
Or, rather more like it, it's the ducks nux? I've always sworn by Boss stuff for my multi's
& stomps due to their sheer durability whilst sounding great & seeing this MG-30 is built
like a brick shithouse I smiled knowing I'll break my toes before I break this board.
Btw presets 03A 03B 03C & 03D are absolutely off-tap 80's-Clean Blues- Plexi-
& Uber-Chunk kick all kinds of arse, just great as they are & only very minor tweaking needed if any at all. What a genius made those 4 I wonder?..
Thanks, Leon, for I scored a good bargain & something worth having that's as tough as anything Boss make, peace respect & be nice to ya missus.🤘
🎸Didjabringyabongalong Station, Central Queensland, Oz 🦘
4 pineapples for this is a dead set bargain!
@@LeonTodd I'll say, that's a measly 10 blue swimmers & 5 lobsters!
Correct. Bypass the cab block if using in front of a regular guitar amp
Nux seems the best the new company for the win lately
Have you had any problems with clipping running into a DAW? Theres a DB meter when you press on the #4 parameter knob when it's in the home screen for the patch. If you know q way to fix thet please let me know.
Great demo as always, what are you playing into.. interface and monitor wise ?
Straight into a UAD Apollo twin and Adam A7X monitors
Great tones!
Hello Leon! For use in a live show with the mg30 on the floor, would you happen to know how to switch presets using one of the foot switches? Thanks in advance.
Yes, I want one!
who needs the new zoom g6 with probably some outdated tones when you have this bad boy
Still want to try the G6 but this thing is hard to beat at the price
If you have the zoom g5n, you don't need the g6.
I was a Zoom fan once but they lost it.
Excellent! What is the BPM in the right part of the screen, below the scenes icons? (there is also a BPM settings in the drum machine part)
@Kason Dario Instablaster =)
@Ian Benicio I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im trying it out atm.
Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Ian Benicio It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass !
@Kason Dario You are welcome =)
I was thinking of getting the BOSS GX100, but before I dump a huge amount of cash on one, should I consider this one first before I pull the trigger on the BOSS unit?
I don't gig - as of yet, and the furthest I could go in a professional setting is doing sessions for local talents which I do mostly these days.
Will this suffice, or I'll regret not getting the BOSS?
FYI, this would be one of those "you make it or break it" moments, so I have to make the right/best decision.
very well done bought one after watching.
No kidding. Looks and sounds amazing.👍 How do you think of it now after using it? Still killing it or buyers remorse?
I bought a Nux Cerberus back in December to run at Church. It sounds great, but I would love the option to use a modulated delay, a detune, or like a Rat distortion on the occasional song. So this might be just right for the price. Can't really justify a Hx Stomp right now with bills and keyboards I want
Whether it is good for church purpose? Wat abt sounds?Acoustic, clean, over drive!??
The MG 300 got the Post FX Parallel routing too ?
just bought this for bass
What distortions are the best nux 400 or the nux30. I seen the other video.and there was a wicked distortion on the nux400 nice playing
This or mooer ge 200 in terms of sound quality?
Wow... So Nice This NUX New MG30...
Can Comparison With Mooer GE250,Zoom G6 And Valeton 100
Great Review ! Wonders Hows this going vs Mooer Ge250
Can you tap in drum fills? Great video!
So if you are someone like me who just wants a multi fx with expression pedal can you use this without any amp/cab sims? I just want to run straight into the effects loops of my physical amp head. Reverbs, delays, wahs etc. That's all I want.
Great little unit bro
Ripper hey. Hope you're well mate!
@@LeonTodd Yeah good thanks mate, likewise in these strange times bro
Hi! Does the MG 30 have Banks of patches say like the Boss ME 80?
Wish I could get an app for that to control in tablets but for the price it's a pretty sweet Beast and the amp sounds really good..
hey man, this is a solid review. how does the NUX MG30 compare to Zoom G6?
I haven't tried the g6 as of yet unfortunately
Thank you, i would like to know if it is goog to play in a live situation
❤️frm 🇮🇳 India Sir.
Im confused among Boss Gt1, Zoom G3xn, and Nux MG 30. Pls suggest the best one out of these 3. Which one has the nicest tones? Which one will b a better buy?
Pls help Sir. Thnx in advance 🙏
Been following this unit as thinking of putting together a small backup rig to my Kemper. Had some nice tones but when you dialled up that Uber I was like “sold!!!”
This with a small power amp that can drive a 4x12 would certainly carry a show nicely.
Yeah the Uber and the DSL models are worth it alone. Currently using this as my main backup!
perfect sound like real tube amp good solotion
This is awesome, I can’t wait to get it, when do they start selling it in usa?
Can Nux mg30 record dry signal and processed signal to DAW simultaneously via its USB??
Hmm
So would u say this isn't actually good enough for professional standard recording?
That's all I want it for
And it's been ordered now lol
But it seemed the best option for recording, now I'm asking
Is it more like a very high quality toy lol or learning tool, with some pro stuff thrown in there?
Wow, such a cool device. 😊
Do you think that the amp and cab simulations are far away better in the Mg30 than the Mg300? Or are they similar? Thanks
