Having social media is so hard for an artists. You need it to build up a following, a career, to be inspired and to keep on creating but at the same time you also doom scroll and it’s this constant depressing cycle where you don’t know if it’s worth it to leave or to stay because you need it and you want it
yeah I agree. Honestly I don't know what the solution is there but I'll think about it. maybe having a friend manage your accounts/curate inspo for you ?
If you’re a creative and need social media for marketing/etc., maybe it’s time to separate your art accounts from your personal accounts? Many people I know benefitted from it. If you’ve already done this and still feel shitty about social media/don’t see your habits changing, it’s time to delete your social media and use it solely for business.
I try to post from my computer and not have the app on my phone... if I need to post a story though then I'm kinda in trouble since that can't be done from PC.
Couldn't agree more. I deleted IG off my phone, and I found a good balance once a week where I'll actualyl check in on my desktop just to check messages from friends, which only takes me like 10 minutes. And then that's it. Rather than checking multiple times a day everyday.
but what if most of my feed on youtube or instagram is about some new science tech, anatomy, medicine, geography and history? i just start doom scrolling on these topics when i could’ve studied, but i still felt i learnt something new? and when i don’t watch some of this i just feel left out and stuff. any tips?
Honestly, the best part of getting out of doom scrolling was leaving my fear of missing out, like moving on from wanting to understand the newest trend, or getting to know niche memes and understand the newest joke. Like earlier my friend was talking to me about this new Tiktok meme and it felt kinda healing to realize that my mindless scrolling came to such an end that I don't understand irrelevant social media trends
that’s honestly a good point! i definitely think that like putting in 2/3 hours a day to keep up w the trends online is not the best. I’m happy for you!!
your humour is great. also the randomly drinking alcohol (shots, bottles, etc) have not gone unnoticed. this is also great advice. hope your channel grows.
wow. i am actually so relieved. at how many people have the exact same experiences as i do with social media/instagram. like we are all collectively on the same journey of being so exhausted by this constant unnecessary battle with technology and its addictive apps, realizing what's really important in life, and coming to a point of desperately wanting to do something about it to live a better life. i hope society wakes up to this and decides to do something about it to get life back to when it was good. :)) xo
To solve what you're saying, Instagram decided to put strangers you don't follow in your home page. You'll see them unless you manually go to the homepage that only contains the people you follow. It's absolute nonsense, as if they want you to feel bad about your self.
They dont want to make you feel bad, honestly. Simply they want you to keep scrolling on their app for the ads, and if a side effect of that is that you feel bad, well, that's too bad.
I don't use Instagram, but I am heavily addicted to UA-cam. The only thing you can do is to get yourself motivated for something, or else you will find yourself stuck in an infinite loop.
I saw another video recently about lowering screen time by someone called Maxwell and they recommended the chrome extension "unhooked". It basically removes your UA-cam recommended feed!
I have been off all social media for over 2 years now, my only exception is youtube occasionally. It almost kills me to be around people who are constantly on their phones scrolling, it is what we have come to lol. But I have noticed so many improvements since then which is why I recommend everyone should try stay off social media too: - I have more time to do things I like and to look after myself (reading, studying, meeting people etc.) - I also don't feel disappointed with what I am doing in life anymore. Comparison with celebs or even mutuals is always the thief of joy. - No more fake stuff, in the real world it's all REAL! - I don't fall prey to pointless trends on social media or have the feeling of "missing out" on something. - I feel more authentic as a person, less like I am regurgitating things I saw online. Your video makes me feel less alone in being offline, so thank you!
that is true actually, i have gotten off socials too (kind of. I don't have any on my phone anymore but my computer has it and I will occasionally hop on for maybe a minute before realising theres no point. I also watch youtube, maybe because I'm still at school but I don't know.) and I feel all the stuff that you do. You would also feel the same way but I feel like without socials you see more of the world y'know? like on my school bus I like to look out the window and just think about life and I will sometimes see something cool or interesting and I'm usually one of the only ones who DO notice. I'm still struggling with some issues in this field and I honestly wouldn't mind if I did stop it all altogether (would video games count? I hope not, I love them.) I think it would make things better. I'd also love it if the world followed the same path but I don't really see that happening.
Totally agree! It's hard for young people to fully commit, but once you do you get to appreciate the small things in life! Hopefully people become more mindful in the future! Also, video games are way better than social media because you are using your brain :) @@gggumball
i deleted instagram more then a year ago, my life did not get 1 percent worse. The thing that it gave me was more time and way more focus on myself. That is what the majority of people lack.
I have literally turned notifications off, This step has really helped me from getting unnecessarily distracted from my work & save up time, and become more productive!!
I agree that building self-discipline and installing stricter social media "timeframes" makes you being so much more in control about this addiction. It gives you a sense of achieving something as well. However, it can be a real addiction - and being aware of this and deciding whether timeframes are effective or if stricter measures, like deleting apps, are neccessary is up to us to evaluate. Very nice video!
Ya just delete it. It doesn't matter. Most things people post online are pointless anyway and no number of restrictions ever kept me away from the endless scrolling and "relaxing" dopamine hits I would get when using the app. I finally made the decision to switch to a flip phone and delete my account. I don't feel like I am missing out on some random thing that seems important to invest time into just to seem relevant. It's quite ironic that we need some type of disconnection from our own reality to seem "relevant" in conversation. Also I agree that if the people you follow, you don't have their phone number, then what is the point. If you don't actually want to talk to them then why do you feel the need to follow them at all? Anyway, just wanted to rant, this was a great and very open video about the struggles of a weird reality that we created for ourselves.
I tell people “if you need me, you have my number. If you don’t, you either don’t know me well enough, or can find someone who can give you my number”. Living in the present moment takes away the fear ✌️
The grayscale tip worked like a charm for me. There's something about not seeing all the bright colors and aesthetically pleasing filters that makes you lose interest. That subtle change is enough of a reminder to stay off the app.
Two weeks before watching this video, I uninstalled Instagram, deactivated UA-cam (uninstalling isn't an option on Android), and set my phone to greyscale. Not counting time spent on UA-cam Music, which varies wildly depending on my daily activities, I went from 6-7h PER DAY on my phone to just 1h45 in the first week. This week, my average was 3h35 including YT Music, which probably amounts to about 2h, a slight increase but far better than before. This video only goes to reaffirm that making the changes I did were a step in the right direction, for my mental health and clarity, for my personal relationships, and for my free time spent doing more productive things than doom scrolling. Thank you.
I feel the opposite way, I ONLY follow people I don't know. If a friend posts something on instagram I feel a lot more jealous/fomo-y since I can compare my life directly to theirs, but only following account for my hobbies and interests doesn't give me that same feeling because in my mind their life is so far removed from mine there is no comparison
this is a great take ^^ I basically only follow accounts that let me keep track of my hobbies, stuff I genuinely enjoy (which doesn’t help the scrolling addiction lmao)
interesting confession. When i posted trips or great achievements my closest friends never liked it but only strangers. I stopped posting generally🧿 but this explains they were just jealous😅
Fantastic video quality. This having been my first video watched by you, I was shocked when you said “I have like 8 subscribers”. I looked and was shocked to see such great production quality from such a small user. It seems you truly have a passion for it, continue you on and it’ll go far for you!
This has been one of the most life changing videos I've watched in the last years. I used to be on my phone for 6+ hours a day and after watching this video and using screenzen and all the other recomendations, I got it down to about 1.5hrs a day. I've been able to delete youtube & tiktok and I barely ever use instagram anymore. Thank you so so much.
I follow friends, family and event pages in my area to know what's going on in my city and it's SO incredibly helpful. For other social media apps, I deleted Twitter and only follow the things I'm interested in on Reddit (fitness, language/culture, food stuff and other hobbies.) It's cut my screen time in half. I am finding myself reading more, focusing on the shows I am watching instead of needing to have Netflix up + Insta or some other thing. Going outside more often and getting stuff done around my house instead of feeling like I'm physically unable to tear my eyes away from my phone. I'm more social because I see what my friends are posting more often and it makes me want to talk to them, I could go on and on. All in all my attention span is slowly returning, I'm not anxious when I'm not doing several things at once, and I feel SO much better.
It was the transition from tea to hard liquor for me 😂 Also, this video game me so much hope, I just started a UA-cam channel and when you joked about having 8 subscribers, I felt a soft encouragement to keep going!!
Took the plunge and just deleted it straight up. Why waste my own time pretending I want everyone to know my business, might as well free myself now. Thank you so much !
I'm currently at the stage of only using Instagram in Safari. After watching this video, I'm amazed at how much more you can do to get your social media consumption under control. Thank you for this incredibly helpful video!!
I don't know about safari but on google, you can add a chrome extension on called anti gram where you can limit things like viewing the home page and only being able to see things like messaging. I also deleted instagram on my phone and I will deffinetly keep it that way
I came to say this too. The app makes it so much more addictive! I tried deleting the app many times but end up re downloading it and loosing hours to scrolling. Using it via safari makes that seamless smooth experience non existent. It means you can still check in but I found I’m much less likely to stay for a long time
these are some great tips! for me i find reels and tiktok to be super addicting and i wish insta make a feature so you cant see reels but ofc theyre never gonna do that. i find deleting the apps to be best for me and i can feel a difference in how anxious i am. i also deleted youtube off my phone because i would switch between videos when i was doing something and it was also weirdly a source of anxiety. i find that replacing listening to videos with music (especially jazz) and audiobooks to be the best for me. it makes me slow down and chill. im still trying to take away this audio crutch, but its one step at a time. ive also found other hobbies that i can get into a flow state with that make me feel better. so tldr for anyone trying to decrease their phone time, try music and audiobooks and hobbies as a replacement
I simply deleted instagram due to how negative the people on there are. I can’t scroll through 3 posts without seeing something racist, homophobic, sexist or just down right negative. It gets annoying and draining so I decided to depart from the app 2 weeks ago. Not to mention my subconscious mind compares to other peoples fake lives and makes me feel worse. Deleting it was the best decision I made but I understand your point. Great video :)
the mute option is actually so overpowered, i scrolled to the muted stories and saw people i havent seen anything about in years and i realized they were completely irrelevant in my life and I saved so much time by not knowing what they were up to
i have a social media check-in at the same time everyday from 7pm-8pm. I don’t use social media outside of that. It helps me stay informed in an intentional way.
4:20 “Studies have shown grey scale tends to make your phone less additive. I don’t read studies, but it sounds like something they’d find.” Hahaha can definitely relate. 😅
A year ago I totally changed the way I was using instagram by trying the first four tips. I’ve never been in a healthier relationship with social media since then. I saw your video just now and it made me think that was a great decision, so thank you :)
This is a fantastic video, especially considering the fact that this is one of the first. You clearly have a gift for videography, editing, and video essays more generally. Your videos are both entertaining and informative. In regard to the video's content, itself, I think the strategies you give for moderating Instagram use are great. I think they're much more realistic than everyone deleting social media, and I think they'd help someone to continue using social media in a beneficial, as opposed to detrimental, way. Love it!
yes! My idea is that it's probably better to delete, but no one can do that, realistically. much better to be honest and do something that works than fail and quit something thats in theory slightly better. & glad you're liking them. they prolly won't stop for a while :)
I GASPED. when I saw the triple side button switch between gray scale and normal colour settings. I used to turn my phone screen to black and white but the problem always was that I love taking photos and I need to see colours when I am taking them !! right? and switching the setting every single time the sky looks pretty was so daunting. but you literally enlightened me with this thing. thank you tristan like for real
I can't believe I came across this video the very same day I deleted Instagram. I've watched both parts and I will definitely try some of your tips! Thank you so much for making them and for making us feel less alone in this challenge.
i had successfully gone off radar before i started my new graduation, but now, being a communication student, it got incredibly harder. to use social media as a study object and source of information alone is a constant challenge. it takes all my strength not to fall prey of something i'm supposed to see as a tool, not a cage.
I feel so called out rn. These tips made me realize for the first time why i don't want to quit Instagram and why i keep coming back... a part of me apparently thinks what’s going on in the lives of some strangers is important and i never acknowledged that formyself.
the best part of the videos is the amount of different glasses you use! :') ... but totally agree with that you are talking about, i decided to take a social media detox recently as I'm struggling with some mental health issues and all i was seeing was everyone else's perfect lives, perfect jobs, perfect home, perfect everythinggggg and it's a struggle!!
its crazy that this video got recommended to me since i decided to quit instagram in the beginning of the year and its almost over, my reason for quitting was that i realized when i went to shows, concerts, parties, get togethers and stuff i was always the one with their phone in their hand. Constantly recording or taking pictures then when i think back about how it went all i remember was just seeing it through my phone not even living my life anymore. Eventually i decided to ask my friends how they do it (where they dont post or some dont even have an account) where its not on their mind. some helped some didnt but i decided on just taking break for a week then before i knew it the week was over, then decided if i could go a week i could go a month which i did then turned into 2 to 3 to 4 to 5 months. i wont lie i did start posting again (like a grandpa as the video says) like once a month now so mainly only things i find interesting or experience no longer shit posting, sharing posts, memes. might not be for everyone but im glad it worked for me.
Somehow I've done almost all of the tips you mentioned! I never understood the point in following celebrities, especially when all they do is post photos of themselves. I had a look at my feed and it's a mix of artists, bands I like, comic writers, and photographers, or shows I like etc. lol. It's a lot more interesting! But lately, I feel that my problem with Instagram is the timesink of Reels. Sending "funny stuff" to your friends seems to be this thing you're just expected to do?
Alright I have a similar take on this. So I follow celebs but surprisingly I don't feel sad that I don't live their lives so I have a slight different way of using social media. 1. Find out what accounts make you use Instagram depressed: It could even be a friend, or a ex-crush. So I have a friend that went to study at my dream university that I couldn't enter. Also following my ex-crush, same thing we are close but she posts Bout her relationships often 2. Use the mute function following them was a pain cuz I'd feel depressed that I was not as good. Even though I'm quite close to them I still chose to mute posts so I don't see her post about them and I generally feel better.
yes i feel that. def there’s celebs who are way way better to follow than friends. it’s way more complicated than i expressed in the video but you’re doing the best thing which is thinking about what works for you
You always come back to the point that you open the app when you’re bored. I wasn’t bored for a second the past 3 years, because I have hobbies that immensely take up time, for example gaming & dnd, making music (playing instruments), I’m writing on a fantasy novel, and of course things like meeting up with friends etc. take up quite some time. You can start a step earlier by not getting bored in the first place.. Boredom only exists because people don’t know what to do with themselves imo.
this was actually so helpful dude this popped up into my feed right after i deleted insta in a feverish haze. it felt really nice to see someone share the same feelings i have and still be ok and on the path to finding solutions. it seems likes such a trivial thing but it really can control the way you go about your day. thanks for making this and sharing your insight
This is the best video ive seen for this subject. Ive done these like only following people ik. It works. No need to follow people who would never talk to you or know you exist.
Also, Don't post too many stories or pics of yourself reasons being 1. Your privacy is not respected online, people can misuse them. 2. The anxiety related to validation from others will also greatly reduce. Next, do the same with all of your other social media platforms like X, snapchat, etc. My personal opinion is to delete snapchat account. You don't need to know what's going on in someone else’s life.
Thanks for the helpful tips! Your videos have been a game-changer for me in managing my Instagram usage. I can’t stop laughing tho at your hilarious approach to tackling social media addiction while sipping on various drinks in the video 😂😂😂 Your unique style and valuable advice make for an entertaining and informative combination. Keep up the great work sir…
As I kind of merged my insta for yt and personal, I just turn off the notifications completely and set a limit for like 30 min a day. Also I follow japanese ppl bc I am learning japanese so whatever few minutes I spend on insta will somewhat productive
First Video I saw from you. The fact that my algorithm recommended this should make me think about my Instagram habits lol. Very well done Video. It was perfectly paced, I never felt bored throughout the Video. The tips in general were a little bit too radical for me, but a good starting point to create my own new habits. I really liked the Intro of you making a tea in jumpcuts while the music was playing and the title was showing. It really made me focus on the topic afterwards. Keep on going. I saw you getting like 30 subscribers overnight (In Europe) so keep on going!!🎉
thank you! yes having fun trying youtube and liking it! try using screenzen for a more reasonable goal! no reason you can’t set a hard limit at like 1.5 hours with 30 opens at 3 minutes or something!
To be honest when I see people having more exciting lives than me it honestly just gives me inspiration and makes me happy. I never let it get me down because they did what they had to do to live they live they live. Instead of feeling bad about it I let it remind me to keep following my dreams :)) but I do understand not everyone thinks this way.
Just randomly bumped into your video. Im gonna make a totally out of nowhere comment here but you know what, I just loved the different aura of your video that your room gives off a 90s hotel room vibe and this video as a whole has totally different energy. it felt such a refresh also feels like a nostalgia too. On one way this video feels like its taken in 2004 and Im having the biggest nostalgia. Idk whyyyyy!! Its like nothing I have watched for such a long time and believe me Im watching so many youtube videos a day. Immediately subscribed !
Thank you this was very helpful. I’ve tried it all, I have two jobs that revolve around Instagram so it’s been hard to not feel like im missing out on the opportunity to make money then promptly getting sucked into reels
I liked a lot of the tips here, but what advice would you give to someone who wants to do UA-cam but also needs social media for promotion and all that? I always found it difficult when people say to delete social media when if you run a business or a channel, social media is pretty paramount in its growth.
dude honestly. no idea. i’m no expert. maybe if my channel blows up (like it is rn) i’ll have to learn that and i can tell you then. but rn i feel like i don’t have a clue
@@tristansaucedoyt It's alright bro, I juust followed all your rules and damn it's great, I used to have dread opening instagram because it always made me feel like I have a bad life, but now that I muted those I don't want to see and unfollowed a bunch of random celebrities, it's now exciting to just open just to see what your real friends are doing
aye glad its working! Another is close friends and the accounts you wanna see? I might do a follow up with those tips and others but just play around with it! there's ways to make it way better
this is a good idea. I'd mute you (too many high quality posts you celebrity) but I love harassing your stories and thats what I'm optimizing my instagram for :D
I dont use insta for social. I use it for inspiration, i dont follow friends, only follow people that i find interesting and truly want them to be on my feed. That helps me to be more mindful and engage with the content I view, not constantly comparing my self to friends and other people.
I had a huge fight with the Facebook algorithm a few years later, I was unsubscribing like crazy ehile it was showing me content from pages I followed when I was 14. At the end, I managed to clean my newsfeed and reach "no more posts to display" in a few scrolls
I've been wanting to do a social media detox for ages but I can't delete instagram because of my Etsy business on there. This video helped a lot thank you!!
Now, when Social media is the new smoking, and a lot of people is tryig to be more present in real life , i think is a little bit easier as long as you really want a change. at the begining is really hard, specially when you try to search at yourself were you are not . As a Chef , is really hard to carry out a honest creative process thinking with instagram in the background, for all of you out there struggling with creating art in any form , a book will be way more usfull . Great video
The insight from this video makes me feel grateful that I've never used insta and never will. I'm still shocked at some of my friends who wanted me to make an insta account back in 2017/18 when I asked them "what for?" And they straight up said "To like my posts". Like bro, do you not realise how you sound rn? Fuck the likes, if you went on a trip just tell me about it on literally any other platform that we share. Why do _I_ need to download another useless app? I still shake my head, thinking back to that "argument"
From my personal experience what I learnt is if you can't take yourself out of the scrolling addiction tgen atleast mute the videos like when you are scrolling reels and you want to get out but you don't feel like stopping so then just mute the reel and continue to scroll after a few ones you ll get bored. What i have observed is it's not the visuals that keeps us hooked but the audio like the songs the background music the sound effects and those things. I have never followed any celebrity on my Instagram neither i keep alot of Stangers but still i spent a hell lot of time there that's only because of the trending section and reels. Muting the reels whole scrolling has really helped me
this is so useful for me, I do suffer from mobile, social media and scrolling addiction, I tried a lot to cure it , and I will diffidently try these tips. thanks
I don't often comment on any videos whatsoever but damn you're underrated, plus the timing couldn't have been better, absolutely perfect, great advice great delivery. I'm subscribing
your video is the first I see that talks about this, so thank you so much! I've also been deleting and redownloading the app but I feel pressured to keep it since I'd be missing out from all of my friends. the main reason I keep on deleting Instagram is because of reels which leads me to overstimulating and I hate it so much. it's the same reason why I deleted tik tok early on but to see that other apps like instagram to copy tik tok makes it so much worse. I'd be checking one reel and it'd ended up me watching countless reels for hours on end without me realizing bc I feel like I've been hypnotized. I have no time to spend on other things that are actually important because of doom scrolling. although now I'm trying not to delete it just bc of one feature and manage it better since I still need it to get updated on my friends' and love ones lives. so thank you for the helpful tips, it's comforting to know that I'm not alone :]
These are great ideas! I deleted it from my phone so now I only have it on my iPad, which I can only access when I come home from work, it helps a bit too 😊✨
Great video!! I'll also share my tips here. I myself recently have started to cut Instagram off since I spent hours there without noticing. What really worked for me is setting a limit in Screen Time app on iPhone for 20 minutes a day, and then when you want to prolong it, you need to enter a passcode which is one more obstacle for me. Most of the times, it keeps me out of the app. What also worked is just learning to be more mindful of my time. Where do I spend it? Where do I pour my attention? Could I do more things I like (like painting, playing piano, reading, cooking, spending time with friends) instead of scrolling? I recently realized that I don't have enough time to go to every party or event I'm invited to, so I started to be more mindful about how I spend my time. Try these two hacks, and maybe they will work for you, too!
Bro I listened your advice 5-6 months ago. I turned off notifications. After few months I deleted socials completely on my phone. I realized I don't need to know anything about people
"Who else would have watched this?" says the lovely fellow and has almost half a million views xD Also, just so you know, I am from a small country in South America called Paraguay and watched your video :) Thank you for the tips, I will try to apply them in my life... Hugs your way!
@@tristansaucedoyt WOOHOO! You are among the few selected people in the world who know Paraguay even by name xDDD Yes, I did enjoy your video! Thank you very much :)
such a great video! i will follow those tips, they’re actually so good. I’ve been deleting instagram like every monday morning and downloading it as soon as the weekends start, but it doesn’t felt like the solution for me…maybe this is, thank you
Love these tips! Another good rule I try is no insta between certain hours for example I like to do no insta between 8pm-10am, sorta like your no wifi video! I also like to have designated instagram free days, right now I'm doing Monday to Thursday completely insta free :)
Looking at your vid and I realized I'm following 1300 account on Instagram, it's ridiculous lol. I'll watch your videos instead of scrolling 😂 Subscribed !
@@tristansaucedoyt a solution I wish instagram would implement is making reels optional.
If you’re a creative and need social media for marketing/etc., maybe it’s time to separate your art accounts from your personal accounts? Many people I know benefitted from it. If you’ve already done this and still feel shitty about social media/don’t see your habits changing, it’s time to delete your social media and use it solely for business.

imo using tiktok is basically getting in all the memes and stuff
Nice
This also happened to me 😂😂I also had fomo but know after deleting Instagram it's better to feel fomo in irrelevant topics

wow. i am actually so relieved. at how many people have the exact same experiences as i do with social media/instagram. like we are all collectively on the same journey of being so exhausted by this constant unnecessary battle with technology and its addictive apps, realizing what's really important in life, and coming to a point of desperately wanting to do something about it to live a better life. i hope society wakes up to this and decides to do something about it to get life back to when it was good. :)) xo
yeah it’s painful but thankfully we’re all in it together! it’s still so hard though :(
To solve what you're saying, Instagram decided to put strangers you don't follow in your home page. You'll see them unless you manually go to the homepage that only contains the people you follow. It's absolute nonsense, as if they want you to feel bad about your self.
I really hate that, it's awful
They dont want to make you feel bad, honestly. Simply they want you to keep scrolling on their app for the ads, and if a side effect of that is that you feel bad, well, that's too bad.
yeah that's a tip I forgot to add but def having favorite accounts and only looking at those. I just always forget about it when I'm on the app lol

@@jveyvnsyep, it’s pretty much what shorts are nowadays
You can't induce ADHD 😂
I don't use Instagram, but I am heavily addicted to UA-cam. The only thing you can do is to get yourself motivated for something, or else you will find yourself stuck in an infinite loop.
yeah honestly true lol
I saw another video recently about lowering screen time by someone called Maxwell and they recommended the chrome extension "unhooked". It basically removes your UA-cam recommended feed!
True. the key is to get motivated doing something that will give you long-term happiness
totally agree....the knowledge contains in youtube is endless...everything from changing the oil in a motorcycle to the working of a rocket engine...
Don't use it on your phone, use it on a laptop/PC at home, you'll be entertained and disciplined
I have been off all social media for over 2 years now, my only exception is youtube occasionally. It almost kills me to be around people who are constantly on their phones scrolling, it is what we have come to lol. But I have noticed so many improvements since then which is why I recommend everyone should try stay off social media too:
- I have more time to do things I like and to look after myself (reading, studying, meeting people etc.)
- I also don't feel disappointed with what I am doing in life anymore.
Your video makes me feel less alone in being offline, so thank you!
yes! these are all great benefits!! glad you’ve noticed such a positive impact on your life!
that is true actually, i have gotten off socials too (kind of.
Also, video games are way better than social media because you are using your brain :) @@gggumball
tbh UA-cam is weird bc there's like Logan Paul and then there's free Harvard classes right? So like one is clearly way better than the other so
its so hard to fully commit! Hence this video! its sometimes easier to take a stepping stone path w tools like this (at least for me!)
i deleted instagram more then a year ago, my life did not get 1 percent worse. The thing that it gave me was more time and way more focus on myself. That is what the majority of people lack.
yeah if you can delete thats def the best thing to do
cant stay in the past my friend@@JophielThe
I have literally turned notifications off, This step has really helped me from getting unnecessarily distracted from my work & save up time, and become more productive!!
that’s another good one!
Very nice video!
yeah it can be hard even to notice you’re addicted tbh
Anyway, just wanted to rant, this was a great and very open video about the struggles of a weird reality that we created for ourselves.
def deleting it is the best but it's so hard. mad respect going to a flip phone and deleting everything. Wish I was you !
flip phone? not even a blackberry or a nokia?
@@someasiankid6323aesthetic
I tell people “if you need me, you have my number. If you don’t, you either don’t know me well enough, or can find someone who can give you my number”. Living in the present moment takes away the fear ✌️
@@someasiankid6323 there's effectively no difference. What does a Nokia have that a flip phone doesn't have?
Thank you.
Nice
Way to go bud
awesome! Greyscale definitely helps but I hadn't really used it before this year! Enjoy your extra time!
Bro pulled up with a more informative video on reseting one's life than any other "productivity" UA-camr in the world. Hats off man!!!
aye thanks dawg! love the support it means a lot :) i actually forgot a few others bc i tbh didn’t think the vid would do well so i’m making a part 2!
@@tristansaucedoyt waiting...
I feel the opposite way, I ONLY follow people I don't know. If a friend posts something on instagram I feel a lot more jealous/fomo-y since I can compare my life directly to theirs, but only following account for my hobbies and interests doesn't give me that same feeling because in my mind their life is so far removed from mine there is no comparison
that’s honestly a good point! i feel like i’ve kept celebs who genuinely make me happy but removed friends who make me feel jealous / insecure :)
this is a great take ^^ I basically only follow accounts that let me keep track of my hobbies, stuff I genuinely enjoy (which doesn’t help the scrolling addiction lmao)
👏👏👏
interesting confession.
Thanks yes! i’m having a blast!

For other social media apps, I deleted Twitter and only follow the things I'm interested in on Reddit (fitness, language/culture, food stuff and other hobbies.)
It's cut my screen time in half. All in all my attention span is slowly returning, I'm not anxious when I'm not doing several things at once, and I feel SO much better.
that’s so awesome! yeah there’s so many benefits!
using social media its original purpose lol thats actually good might as well try that
It was the transition from tea to hard liquor for me 😂 Also, this video game me so much hope, I just started a UA-cam channel and when you joked about having 8 subscribers, I felt a soft encouragement to keep going!!
thank you! Ya it's crazy to me too
Took the plunge and just deleted it straight up. Why waste my own time pretending I want everyone to know my business, might as well free myself now. Thank you so much !
congrats!
I'm currently at the stage of only using Instagram in Safari. After watching this video, I'm amazed at how much more you can do to get your social media consumption under control. Thank you for this incredibly helpful video!!
have a pt 2 coming bc i forgot a few key ones!!
I don't know about safari but on google, you can add a chrome extension on called anti gram where you can limit things like viewing the home page and only being able to see things like messaging. I also deleted instagram on my phone and I will deffinetly keep it that way
wait that’s smart! thanks!
I came to say this too. The app makes it so much more addictive! I tried deleting the app many times but end up re downloading it and loosing hours to scrolling. Using it via safari makes that seamless smooth experience non existent. It means you can still check in but I found I’m much less likely to stay for a long time
Yeah same but this makes me think I need to do more
these are some great tips! for me i find reels and tiktok to be super addicting and i wish insta make a feature so you cant see reels but ofc theyre never gonna do that. i find deleting the apps to be best for me and i can feel a difference in how anxious i am. i also deleted youtube off my phone because i would switch between videos when i was doing something and it was also weirdly a source of anxiety. i find that replacing listening to videos with music (especially jazz) and audiobooks to be the best for me. it makes me slow down and chill. im still trying to take away this audio crutch, but its one step at a time. ive also found other hobbies that i can get into a flow state with that make me feel better. so tldr for anyone trying to decrease their phone time, try music and audiobooks and hobbies as a replacement
yes reels are so addicting! it's good to find something to help relax and chill
Great video :)
thats good honestly. it can be very toxic
editing is beautifully done, you are going to go far
thank you! trying it out it’s been fun! glad you enjoyed :)
the shot mid through explanation was amazing, thank you
we keep it real
the mute option is actually so overpowered, i scrolled to the muted stories and saw people i havent seen anything about in years and i realized they were completely irrelevant in my life and I saved so much time by not knowing what they were up to
I KNOW I LOVE IT FR
i have a social media check-in at the same time everyday from 7pm-8pm. I don’t use social media outside of that. It helps me stay informed in an intentional way.
thats another great tip!

I used to turn my phone screen to black and white but the problem always was that I love taking photos and I need to see colours when I am taking them !! right? and switching the setting every single time the sky looks pretty was so daunting. but you literally enlightened me with this thing. thank you tristan like for real
yeah it’s a helpful trick! tho then it’s easy to not have your phone in greyscale
YES YES YES.
Thank you for this. I love the idea “use your apps like a grandparent”. It helped me so much.
it's a great goal!!
I can't believe I came across this video the very same day I deleted Instagram. I've watched both parts and I will definitely try some of your tips! Thank you so much for making them and for making us feel less alone in this challenge.
they work for phones in general so don't redownload if you don't want to!
i had successfully gone off radar before i started my new graduation, but now, being a communication student, it got incredibly harder. to use social media as a study object and source of information alone is a constant challenge. it takes all my strength not to fall prey of something i'm supposed to see as a tool, not a cage.
it's so hard! I feel for you!
your videos are so chill, no extra edits. I like it.
Glad you like them!
I love the vibe of this video, it's just straight to the point without any sugarcoat, which I loved. FYI,Thanks for the tips.
ofc!! if you wanna see how i actually use screen zen i just did that too :)
I feel so called out rn. These tips made me realize for the first time why i don't want to quit Instagram and why i keep coming back... a part of me apparently thinks what’s going on in the lives of some strangers is important and i never acknowledged that formyself.
it's not always bad!
the best part of the videos is the amount of different glasses you use! :') ... but totally agree with that you are talking about, i decided to take a social media detox recently as I'm struggling with some mental health issues and all i was seeing was everyone else's perfect lives, perfect jobs, perfect home, perfect everythinggggg and it's a struggle!!
all about the different glasses!
i really like how straightforward and chill this video was. keep up the good content!
thank you!!
its crazy that this video got recommended to me since i decided to quit instagram in the beginning of the year and its almost over, my reason for quitting was that i realized when i went to shows, concerts, parties, get togethers and stuff i was always the one with their phone in their hand. Constantly recording or taking pictures then when i think back about how it went all i remember was just seeing it through my phone not even living my life anymore. Eventually i decided to ask my friends how they do it (where they dont post or some dont even have an account) where its not on their mind. some helped some didnt but i decided on just taking break for a week then before i knew it the week was over, then decided if i could go a week i could go a month which i did then turned into 2 to 3 to 4 to 5 months. i wont lie i did start posting again (like a grandpa as the video says) like once a month now so mainly only things i find interesting or experience no longer shit posting, sharing posts, memes. might not be for everyone but im glad it worked for me.
that’s awesome! yeah that’s the way

Excellent tips! That "I've got 8 subscribers" part got me :D Good luck with growing your chanel!
ahahah it was true when i made it!
Sending "funny stuff" to your friends seems to be this thing you're just expected to do?
that makes it so much more interesting! Yeah I feel that about reels :(
Alright I have a similar take on this. So I follow celebs but surprisingly I don't feel sad that I don't live their lives so I have a slight different way of using social media.
1. Find out what accounts make you use Instagram depressed:
It could even be a friend, or a ex-crush. So I have a friend that went to study at my dream university that I couldn't enter. Also following my ex-crush, same thing we are close but she posts Bout her relationships often
2. Use the mute function
following them was a pain cuz I'd feel depressed that I was not as good. Even though I'm quite close to them I still chose to mute posts so I don't see her post about them and I generally feel better.
yes i feel that. def there’s celebs who are way way better to follow than friends. it’s way more complicated than i expressed in the video but you’re doing the best thing which is thinking about what works for you
@@tristansaucedoyt Oh yes I think that should be a point - finding what works for you. Perfect Pointer
hahaha...same situation here....so i just decided not to use instagram....
Boredom only exists because people don’t know what to do with themselves imo.
definitely good activities help!
this was actually so helpful dude this popped up into my feed right after i deleted insta in a feverish haze. it felt really nice to see someone share the same feelings i have and still be ok and on the path to finding solutions. it seems likes such a trivial thing but it really can control the way you go about your day. thanks for making this and sharing your insight
I'm so glad you enjoyed! There's tons of ways to work on cutting social media time but these generally work for me!

Thanks for watching! yes, me too. they’re designed to be easy to use so it’s an uphill battle.

thank you! Congrats on deleting!
This is the best video ive seen for this subject. Ive done these like only following people ik. It works. No need to follow people who would never talk to you or know you exist.
yes exactly!
Also,
Don't post too many stories or pics of yourself reasons being 1. Your privacy is not respected online, people can misuse them.
2. The anxiety related to validation from others will also greatly reduce.
Next, do the same with all of your other social media platforms like X, snapchat, etc. My personal opinion is to delete snapchat account. You don't need to know what's going on in someone else’s life.
yeah def some socials are worse than others and it’s best to be secure & safe online

I liked a lot of the tips here, but what advice would you give to someone who wants to do UA-cam but also needs social media for promotion and all that? I dont use insta for social. I use it for inspiration, i dont follow friends, only follow people that i find interesting and truly want them to be on my feed. That helps me to be more mindful and engage with the content I view, not constantly comparing my self to friends and other people.
This randomly popped up on my youtube suggested. But I recommend just deactivating your socials instead of deleting
yeah it works better if you don't reactivate (like me oops)
As a Chef , is really hard to carry out a honest creative process thinking with instagram in the background, for all of you out there struggling with creating art in any form , a book will be way more usfull .

thank you!
When you said use the phone as a tool, it made me think of the quote, "We shape our tools, and thereafter our tools shape us"
this tool def has shaped us
This is so true. I always get so burned out like omg. I did this and I use it way less and I have a better mental headspace!
Muting the reels whole scrolling has really helped me
oooh that’s a good tip!!
this is so useful for me, I do suffer from mobile, social media and scrolling addiction, I tried a lot to cure it , and I will diffidently try these tips. thanks
I don't often comment on any videos whatsoever but damn you're underrated, plus the timing couldn't have been better, absolutely perfect, great advice great delivery. I'm subscribing
aye thanks for the sub and comment! Appreciate it!
your video is the first I see that talks about this, so thank you so much! I have no time to spend on other things that are actually important because of doom scrolling. although now I'm trying not to delete it just bc of one feature and manage it better since I still need it to get updated on my friends' and love ones lives. so thank you for the helpful tips, it's comforting to know that I'm not alone :]
yeah it's painful how much time you can accidentally spend on it. glad you liked the tips!
Not your family or close friend! Your vid came up on my suggested and I am glad that i clicked into it and watched it till the end. Great video :)
glad you enjoyed!
These are great ideas! I deleted it from my phone so now I only have it on my iPad, which I can only access when I come home from work, it helps a bit too 😊✨
yes thats also a good one!
Try these two hacks, and maybe they will work for you, too!
thanks
Bro I listened your advice 5-6 months ago. I turned off notifications. After few months I deleted socials completely on my phone. I realized I don't need to know anything about people
"Who else would have watched this?" says the lovely fellow and has almost half a million views xD Also, just so you know, I am from a small country in South America called Paraguay and watched your video :) Thank you for the tips, I will try to apply them in my life... Hugs your way!
aha ik Paraguay! Glad you enjoyed it!
@@tristansaucedoyt WOOHOO! You are among the few selected people in the world who know Paraguay even by name xDDD Yes, I did enjoy your video! Thank you very much :)
such a great video! i will follow those tips, they’re actually so good. I’ve been deleting instagram like every monday morning and downloading it as soon as the weekends start, but it doesn’t felt like the solution for me…maybe this is, thank you
yes! Hopefully screenzen works better!
Love these tips! Another good rule I try is no insta between certain hours for example I like to do no insta between 8pm-10am, sorta like your no wifi video! I also like to have designated instagram free days, right now I'm doing Monday to Thursday completely insta free :)
Yes! That works really well, and recently I've been doing something like that!
Looking at your vid and I realized I'm following 1300 account on Instagram, it's ridiculous lol.
I'll watch your videos instead of scrolling 😂 Subscribed !
ahaha thank you! yeah they just add up! it’s hard
