PLEASE, do a video on a real-time looping workflow. Like you might do with a guitar looping pedal, but using this and Logic and a mix of guitar and synth. Ableton excels at this, but I’m a Logic, not Ableton user. No one has done a video like this, and if anyone can, you can Chris. This was a fantastic video! I’ve been following controllers that might work with Logic so this is perfect!

I have a Launchpad Pro and have it attached to my Mac. I am using it a little less these days, as I’m going between my keyboard and Logic Remote on my iPad, but holding onto it in hopes of incorporating it into my workflow on a regular basis. Good video, this; thanks!
Thank you for this video. I have been using GB and considering moving over to Logic Pro (bought it a few years back when a student) I've also been on the fence about adding more gear for various reasons. Was looking at the Launchpad Mini as an option yet can't find much in the way of other videos online about it and Logic. You made a great case for a use case for this tool. Now I have to wrestle with my brain and wallet!
I just replaced the keyboard controller with Launchpad- I'm creating ambient and experimental music, and this setup is so much more conducive to "getting lost" in my work. It's pretty too! Thank you for the informative video.

Capture midi memorizes what you play and will paste it after you stop playback (for editing ideas). It’s cool but if you already have stems you’ll be find without it. Keep doing a great job! I love these tutorials!
Make a blank column and click on that when you want to stop the sound. It'll do it in a more natural "quantized" way.

I've got one and it's good for live but at home, the good old midi keyboard and mouse pointer is just easier to use.

About mapping Start-Stop; I did not map Capture MIDI because it actually does just that. But the Device/Tempo button seems to be the only button not used for Logic, at least the Device part. I did map it initially, but weird stuff happened resulting from it. I woudl press the button, but it woudl switch to Custom mode for some reason. What I did to work around it was to add the "Shift" button when I mapped the second time, so "Shift-Device" makes it so that it does not leave Session view, which was what happened the first time. In case anyone finds it useful, there you are. I found this part of the video useful, so thank you!

Would love to hear some info about mixing into mastering, does one want to have lufs at a lower level before a master bounce and then limiting compression and eq? Or does one try to get levels beforehand

Using 10.6, i really love to make projects to play live set for few hours, with a lot of "tracks" containing at least 10/12 elements each.
Editing each cells with fade in and out, and knowing by writing in the name of the cell which one has fade in (adding a symbol "") for example, or which one do not loop ( symbol "/"). So an ipad, or a laptop allow me to SEE that!!! And ...
I love to be able to select, let's say, 10 cells in the same time, "where ever" they may be in the project, some of them playing, and some not yet, and when i feel like, press "enter" to stop the active ones, and to launch those that where not playing yet. Makes sense?
Or... to select (with "Shift") a few cells, and hit the "L" button on the keyboard to stop them looping. They would stop at the end of there length (if i see my "/" symbol on the name of the cell), or to go into a fade out (">" if i did the edit before). This allow me to let the function happen by itself, letting me time to do other things during this precious time!
And for sure, a keyboard is ... a KEYBOARD! No way to play "music" with that for me! Same for Pan knobs, or faders for the volume... I would definitely go more for a good large screen tablet with the Logic Remote, and a small controller that i can assign freely for the few essential functions needed (like ... muting the beats group, or the melodic group in one go, or assigning the delay time, feedback and so on). Feels more homy to me. Sub menus are not really my cup of tea for live sets!
This little gear is a nice step (not much innovation or creativity zo! Ableton push copy maybe?!...), but still more a gadget than a real surface that would integrate all! >>> Imagine ... a 16 faders midi controller with 3 or 5 knob each, with an integrated touch screen to launch the cells!!!! Paradise!!!!! Or ... better ... an M1X with .... a touch screen ... PLEASE!!! ;)

Here is small part of a one and a half hour set done thanxxxx to this new ammmmmazing version of Logic Pro 10.6, on my macbook air, and an AKAI MPK mini controller...(this was the first time i played it live for a party few months ago, so it has evolve a lot since then... apologize for the roughness of it!)

Thanks for the video. Do you perhaps have anything on how to midi map the new MPK Mini Plus with Logic. I'm struggling at the moment to get the transport controls to work.
They should add a display screen. So you can clearly see what your doing. But i will still order it and give it a go.
Hi! two questions 1) how do you get the colors of the launch pad to match the colors of the live loop cells? and 2) how did you make the pads so bright? my LED pads on launchpad are pretty dim

wondering how this compares with the Launchpad Pro Mk3 for Logic use... there is so little information online about the integration with Logic. I had a question, can you select a cell in Launchpad X and not play it or do I still have to use the mouse for that? I wonder if all the additional functions on the Pro work with Logic.. such as setting fixed length cells, quantise, etc.
Would using this controller work while creating beats or music in the linear fashion?
Hey, really thanks for your work! I was wandering if you could help me with a trouble on launchpad X: I activated the "Legacy" mode (with the purple button) and now my Session button is disabled. Do you know a way to turn launchpad X to its normal mode and functionality?

you know how selecting a button on that bottom (green row) triggers the entire vertical column. is there any way to un-trigger that column? without spacebar/hotkey to stop all playback especially since if you started playback up again, that whole column would just start playing again.
works a bit different on some major things on original launchpad pro
I've been using the launchpad X since 10.5 and love it. The only bummer is that I have to reassign my rotation and stop/start button assignment every time I restart Logic.
I have launch pad pro first model not the mk3 and spoke to support they said that's correct until apple changes the scrip it won't remember it. I'm on 10.63 and my machine won't install 10.7 or later as Catalina on here and won't work on my hardware maybe they updated it in 10.7 maybe not I can't tell what logic version are u on?

Yes. Any key command an be assigned to a pad/cell. The challenge is finding the group and mode of each assignment.
Is there a midi keyboard or controller that works seamlessly with logic Pro on the iPad out of the box, with all of the parameters mapped, such as faders and knobs?

Does anyone know how to reprogram the sequencer colors. Its hard to see the lighted pads on the sequencer. Perhaps a darker color ?
is there a way to make the pads NOT flash green when playing? When they all go green it's very difficult to see what track you are playing without mirroring the actual colors in the live loop cells.

Hi Fabian! I also have this problem. It works with the 90 degree rotation but I don't have the green row at the bottom either when I have it in "none". Have you figured it out?
@@elarmusic3692 Exactly the same here! So far it only works 90 degrees. But then the „note mode“ isn‘t functional 🙄
Also having this issue. Chris, do you know how to fix this without rotation as yours seems to be in default mode? Also, I have had many times when recording MIDI via Live Loops that my notes are changed, any ideas there? And great video, this is the best on YB!
I’d love to find a way to use this in a “live performance” environment. I get performing one song “live” with live loops and the launchpad…but how do you quickly move from song to song without closing one and opening another? Seems like there has to be a way to truly use the launchpad and live loops to play a set of music, no?
Hey man,
You just have the loops and instruments on a single track I believe. Say, you have one Instrument Rack or Samples of your Kick&Bass from first song, then you turn that device off in your next song's clip while turning on the device from that song.
We mentioned in another comment, but has anyone else found a solution to enable the green pads at the bottom to display (allow scene play)? I guess there is a hack to put in rotation mode, but this will remove ability to use notes too. Also having an issue where MIDI recordings are changing occasional notes in Live Loops when doing a live looping situation.
Having the same issue of missing the green buttons to start scenes. Did you find a fix? I just put in a ticket with Novation so hopefully will get an answer this week.
