    did you know you can nominate to this years version of "Best Synths & Music Gear", go to Bobeats Facebook to nominate: bit.ly/Nominate2019Bobeats and later this year we will do a poll (not on Facebook, we use Google polls for that)

    Very interesting video, many thanks - just on a point of clarification though there is no such thing as translating / converting “usb midi” to “din midi” - there is just “midi” - it can travel via usb or older din connectors but it is always the same signal - and midi hubs can also be entirely din or usb or combined like yours

  • @SkyscanX1
    @SkyscanX1 2 роки тому +1

    You can customize it to use in Reaper, not just Ableton. Also you can control your external synths by running it through your DAW. No need for a USB hub but you will need a PC interface of course.

    Thanks for another great video, Bo!
    I realize that this interesting and affordable device from Novation was designed for tight integration with Ableton Live, and that's great for Ableton users. I'm wondering if you, Bo, or anybody among your subscribers have any idea what the Launchpad X might have to offer for users of other DAWs such as Presonus Studio One or Cockos Reaper.

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  4 роки тому +1

      I would say its a rather pointless controller any daw but Ableton Push. I guess Bitwig users might have use for it, but its very Ableton centric

      @@BoBeats -- Thanks.
      So I had suspected. Am not that familiar with Bitwig, but if I were all-in with Ableton (which I'm not, at this time, at least not yet), the Launchpad X certainly would be tempting.

    • @Emily_M81
      @Emily_M81 4 роки тому +1

      @@ConwayBob You can use it with other DAWs, but you're left with Note Mode and the four Custom Modes so you'd have to program everything and set up your DAW for the CCs you want to use to control things. ie... the outer buttons do not work save for that. TL;DR - it's definitely best just used with Ableton or maybe Bitwig if you or someone can make a script to take advantage of it, somehow. I've used it with my MPC Live in standalone which is a bit fun having lots of scales, notes, "knobs," etc. But again, I had to set up Custom Modes to get the most use out of it.

  • @oscarjmg
    @oscarjmg Рік тому +1

    Bo, does the notes and scales work with midi usb hub?

  • @ryanc9195
    @ryanc9195 4 роки тому +4

    assuming MIDI capture works the same as inside ableton, it should grab all the notes you play from the time you arm the clip, but it will set the clip loop/start/stop markers around the last phrase that you played. The phrase detection algorithm usually works pretty well. But you should be able to open the clip in ableton and see all the notes, edit, quantize, move the brackets etc.

    Hi BoBeats great video! I was wondering if you could please give me your personal opinion. Im trying to decide between the circuit mono station, the roland sh-01a or the roland se-02. I am currently building my setup and at the moment im using Ableton live, maschine mk3 and a minilogue xd, so im looking to add a nice bass synth to the setup. The type of music i make varies between downtempo experimental / deep house to a slightly aggressive techno. I use a lot of analogue sounds and sampled instruments such as pianos, saxophone and trumpets so i would like to add something that could blend nicely with these sounds. Ps: i also have the novation circuit (not sure if that might influence a lot since im using ableton live). Thank you. Subbed 👌🏼

    • @hsitz
      @hsitz 3 роки тому

      I think he probably created a lot of confusion regarding the "USB midi hub". There is no need for any special device, you can connect the launchpad up to hardware in the same way as you'd connect any other usb controller that gets both data and power over same usb cable (which is many). For example, I connect my Launchpad X directly to my iPad using the CCK adapter on the ipad, same as I do my keystep or any other controller. If I'm connecting multiple devices I just use a generic powered usb hub, again the Launchpad X works just the same as with any of my other usb controllers. You can even have a usb-to-din-midi adapter (e.g., Midiplus 2 x 2) connected to that hub, and the Launchpad messages can get routed to hardware connected by traditional midi plugs. Absolutely no need for any special "usb midi hub".
      You will need a "usb midi hub" only if you're trying to connect to hardware devices without having a "usb host" (pc/mac/ipad) as part of your setup. In other words, you can use a generic usb hub if it's connected to a pc/mac/ipad device that acts as the "usb host". But that's the case with any usb controller, not specific to launchpads.

      There has been considerable interaction (some of it positive, some not so much) between Celtic and Scandanavian peoples over many centuries,, dating back to long before the modern English or Swedish languages developed or the Roman invasions of the British Isles. For that reason, many similarities can be found among those Northwest European cultures. Traditional Celtic, Norwegian, and Swedish music appear to share some common roots, and perhaps some language and speech sounds share common roots as well.

    Hey Bo. Your content has always been good, and your presentation too ... but you claim to be going "professional" ... and yet you are doing ever-more-ridiculous poses and expressions on your title pages that look like some kid who's just discovered UA-cam ... the equivalent of a presentation using every font and transition effect available.
    I may be in a minority of one ... but if I hadn't looked at your earlier stuff, I wouldn't bother with a look at your recent posts on Push, Deluge ... when the content is good, look the part?

Thank you. Subbed 👌🏼

      i am very much in favor of the se-02 as its analog and just offers so much cool modulation options
