- The swept-wing Grumman F-9 Cougar holds an important place in the evolution of carrier-based fighters in the United States Navy and Marine Corps. Developed in the early 1950s as a successor to the straight-winged F8F Bearcat, the Cougar incorporated several innovations that would heavily influence naval fighter design for decades to come. With its thin, high-aspect ratio wing and powerful engine, the nimble Cougar achieved transonic speeds while maintaining excellent low-speed handling qualities needed for carrier operations. Its troubled early service life gave way to a distinguished career as one of the premier fighters of the 1950s. The Cougar's design legacy paved the way for Grumman's next generation of swept-wing cats - the F11F Tiger and F-14 Tomcat.

The Aircraft shown with Blue Angel markings at the beginning are F-11 Tigers, Not F9F Cougars. That's a huge rookie mistake.
first thing I noticed as well.
If you can’t get that right, really hard to watch the rest of video.
Sure are a lot of Tigers in this video about Cougars. Not that I'm complaining.
Look like a capable aircraft in it's day.
I built the Revell model of the Panther back in the 1959s.
Could you not find enough footage of the cougar that instead you kept interjecting footage of the tiger into the video and really think nobody would notice?
producer obviously can’t distinguish between a Grumman Cougar and a Grumman Tiger. 😂 incompetence makes this video click bait.
Attention to detail is key, @alanknollmeyer9904 Your sharp eye for distinguishing between different models like the Cougar and the Tiger is commendable.
3:59 What's that F7U Cutlass doing here?
Please Gutless Cutlass
Did this channel change its name? I recognize the narration from other weak videos on aircraft.
Allison engine no reheat with 18.000 pounds thrust ?
Why tigers shown so much,?
As pointed out by others, too bad they don't have enough footage of the F-9F Cougar. I always like the Panther and Cougar because too me they looked like I felt a fighter jet should. Small, sleek and bad-a$$ looking!
Great Documentary
I agree. Cutlass in there too. Narration is fine and interesting but video is too distracting.
Sorry
Cougar replaced the Panther
Maybe
Yes, not the Bearcat.
