The price of the Motul oil has gone through the roof for some reason. For my last oil change I went to the dealer and bought the Castrol oil from them. Good luck!

Great video! I had cardiac arrest when the local dealer told me what an oil change/service costs!! Absolutely insane! Thank You for doing the video! Great job! I owe you a six pack.
I'll let you know where to send the 6 pack, LOL. Glad it helped!
You Sir, are my friggin hero! As a country boy I’ve done tons of oil changes on anything you can think of. My accountant wife bought this Gucci car and I felt like a moron trying to figure this thing out.
I think you just described my wife and I, lol!!! She has the RR, I have the Saturn Outlook with rusty doors.
Very nice and clear video. Very informative that makes think twice before heading to the dealer and pay over $400.00 just for an oil change. Thank you very much. Maybe in the future you can show also how to change brake pads on the sama model car.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. My wife just bought a 2018 Discovery Sport with the 2 liter turbocharged engine and I am brushing up on maintenance info including oil changes. I've been using a pneumatic oil extractor for over 15 years on my E39 BMW, and since the Discovery still has an oil dipstick, I'm going to try using it on this as well, sucking out the old oil through the dipstick. The oil filter being up top is also nice since I won't have to get under the vehicle at all for an oil change. Great video.
Nice, I like this idea.
I've never seen a used oil filter that bad. It was so plugged and covered in sludge that oil was likely bypassing (via the bypass valve) the filter entirely.
I changed it not long after getting it. Thankfully it hasn’t looked that gnarly since. Hopefully there’s no long term damage if the previous owner fudged the oil change interval.
@@phog_vision How many miles were on it when you got it? Based on experience, I would bet it had never been serviced. I would suggest no more than 5k oil changes for a while as you try to dissolve all the sludge inside the engine.
All Land Rovers 2010 and later have provisions to drain the engine oil using a vacuum oil extractor. You don't need to jack up the car and remove the underbody protection. An oil extractor is cheaper than a floor jack and jackstands, and a lot easier to use.
Great tip, thanks! Taking the splash guard off sucks!
I can't find the oil filter removal tool for the life of me... where did ya buy yours
I found mine at Walmart. Here’s the linky: www.walmart.com/ip/Hyper-Tough-64MM-Oil-Filter-Wrench-Model-4207/836772683
excellent clear and essential review complete with reset..in Italy Range Rover recommends Castrol edge 0-30 ..maybe more expensive than Motul ..thanks
Thank you, glad it's been helping people.
OMG - Your old oil filter looks very bad (3:45). What oil did you use before and how long? That does not look healthy!
The oil change in the vid was the first I did on the car. Not sure what was used before but I know it's right now.
Hello, When should the engine control chain be replaced?
I have 2017 evoque sport. Just changed my oil, but I can't get the service light off. Help pls thx
Changing my oil again so checking ur video again. Still very grateful for your help. I did notice that motul oil just jumped to $27 a quart on Amazon, cool bottles aren’t worth that. I checked Mobil 1 syn. and they say it works for the special spec, if my engine blows up I’ll let you know😁
Glad the vid was helpful. That sucks on the oil. I'm like you, who cares about cool bottles, it was the $10 price tag I liked. 3X that is nuts. I've got about 4K until my next oil change. Guess I better start looking now. They REALLY want to force us to go to the dealership don't they?
Just a follow up. I ended up going to the dealer for the Land Rover oil. Ended up being $11 a quart so not super crazy. Anything on Amazon is still outrageous.
My evoque didn’t blow up with the Mobil 1 but I just went to dealer here in CA and bought oil too. They use a Castrol edge professional which says LR/Jaguar on the side. Just under $100 with tax. Again will let u know if it blows up😁
@@Randomrayray666 I imagine it will be good but there's always that gremlin in the back of your mind saying, "Your engine will blow up!" 😆
but the service reset procedure...doesn't update the km for the next service on my evoque td180 2018...it never updates it..
Talked to two dealerships. They don’t know where the oil filter located for the 2018 evoque.
I bought a filter on Amazon trusting their fitment recommendations. Don't do that, it's for a spin on type filter which won't work. That's why I paid a bit more for the Land Rover OEM filter.
Talk to techs, not a dealer chair warriors :-)
anyone going to point out the amount of sludge on that old filter?
Thank you, it is very useful. Do you know why at least here in Spain Land Rover recommends 0w30 for diesel engine? It is because 0w20 is for petrol engine? And It would be amazing a video with the fuel filter replacement
Not sure why there’s a difference. Must be the diesel vs petrol. If I replace the fuel filter I’ll shoot another video. 👍🏼
thank you just ordered the removal tool ,watching your vid ill do it myself ,again thank you
You're welcome! I just did mine again. Second time went a bit quicker, lol! Good luck!!!
@@phog_vision ok nice one ,most of the jobs look pretty easy not to bothered atm with the cabin filter that looks a pita
@@peterr7437 It is a pain. I think I'm supposed to change it again next oil change. We'll see if that actually happens though...
@@phog_vision tool arrived today ,so got all i need to do the oil change ,did you do the fuel filter
@@peterr7437 No, haven't done the fuel filter.
16k mile oil change!😂 I would stick to 10k maximum 7k to keep it safe. Best insurance you could ever have.
Just spoke to the dealer and they still say 16K is good. BMW switched from 15K to 10K intervals a few years ago. Moving forward I’m going to 10K. The Land Rover spec oil isn’t cheap but it beats a new motor!
@@phog_vision yessir, don’t always trust what the dealer tells you though lol
Friend, thank you!
Key size!!!🤝👍
hi,
I don't know if you still have this car but I would like to ask what experience you have with this engine.
I have the opportunity to buy such a car from 2019 with the same engine.
It's not as popular a car as BMW, VW or Audi.
Should I be worried?
The car has a very low mileage but I am asking in general from your experience or friends.
Thx in advance
It’s been okay. We’ve had some big repairs done under warranty I’m glad we didn’t have to pay for.
Not looking forward to the next big thing. If you’re under warranty it’s great but after that I’d be careful.
did you notice any difference between motul and castrol? i know they recommend castrol but castrol has a very bad reputation around here.. so i was looking at alternatives, also wish i could put atleast 0w30 in it, that oil is as thin as water..
Didn't notice a difference. The Motul oil price in my area is outrageous now. So I've been using the Land Rover spec Castrol with no issues.
Thank you so much, I had ordered all the wrong stuff. Fantastic video very helpful, any chance you will be replacing air filters anytime soon? 🤓
Glad it was helpful and I'm glad you found the air filter videos!
Does this work for the manual gearbox ? It & other you tubers methods don't work on my parents car & all the videos have the same thing in common, they are automatic with only 2 pedals - brake & accelerator
Sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately I don't know the answer. It seems like adding a clutch wouldn't mess with how the oil is changed but with Land Rover...you never know.
I ordered the oil filter wrench (64mm/14flute)but it doesn't fit the oil filter cap ,what brand of oil filter tool you all use please need help
Looks like my link to the Walmart one I used isn't working. Here it is again. Not sure why it's not working for you. It's the Hyper Tough Walmart brand 64mm 14 flute oil filter wrench.

@@phog_vision thanks so much
Did you replace the oil plug washer? If so, what kind did you use? Was it a special rubber washer or regular crush washer?
It’s been a while since the last change. I believe it’s a bolt with a built in rubber washer. It’s been in good shape the last 2 oil changed so I haven’t messed with it. No leaking issues.
@@phog_vision Thanks. Got it! That's why a replacement plug and washer are sold together.
Why in my case the oil service reset to 850 km ??
That’s very strange. I’m sorry but I’m not sure why that happened. You may have some luck in some of the Land Rover forums out there.
i think it’s motool idk
Sounds good to me! I switched to the dealer Castrol oil since the other stuff went to a gazillion dollars per liter.
