Very good video looks easy to do yourself but what if you only have car ramps can you still drain the oil ,and if you have not got oil cap cool how can you remove it and work with thank you.
Having a lift is a massive advantage undoubtedly. But these vehicles do sit quite high of the ground compared to most vehicles. You can still easily drain into a shallow oil pan (normally a deep 16 litre one will be fine) but you will need the oil filter cap tool to remove it. There are a variety of different tools you can use but just be careful to not damage the cap. It is only plastic after all.
Regarding the damaged tyre. Having owned a few 4x4 vehicles, surely you would replace both tyres on the same axle to avoid transmission windup with different circumference tyres

Hello, I have a LR Disco Sport 2018. Can you advise me a diagnostic tool that is good for this type of vehicle. I already have Delphy, Wurth (Autocom) - my preferred tool, Forscan .... My friend now has a Launch X431 (old). Those devices are available to me. But, what would be ok for this car in particular, like see DPF, EGR status, read DTC and see live data etc... Thanks for the advice...
Hi, apologies for the delay in coming back to you. Out of the scan tools you have access too, Launch would probably be the more appropriate diagnostic for live data through the ECU/PCM. If you wanted to invest in an affordable scan tool yourself, I have recently done a short video on a new wireless OBD reader from TopDon. This is a great scan tool you use through your smart phone and covers a large variety of vehicles. I'll put the link below, which can be purchased through amazon for convenience. Hope that helps and thanks for getting in touch. ua-cam.com/video/xda_brad-Rw/v-deo.htmlsi=Rqxe4vRJSsUXMDMe
With petrol engines, the principle for replacement items such as oil/oil filter, air filter & cabin filter is the same. You’ll find however that there are 2 main differences with a petrol engine. First you have spark plugs that are a maintenance item and that a lot of the time the fuel filter will be a life time filter and be located in the fuel tank. Therefore it won’t need replacing. However there are a few petrol vehicles that will still have an in line fuel filter, which is usually located under the vehicle normally in the shape of a metal canister. Hope that helps and I’ll be sure to film future servicing on other vehicles. Thanks for the comment 👍
Hi, thanks for commenting. You’re 100% right, that foam part on top of the fuel filter is there for a reason and should be transferred over if not renewed. The engine cover sits over that part and I can only imagine that’s the only bit the fuel filter may rub on as everything lose around it is fixed in place. Sadly I missed that off camera though. That did go back on at the end of the service off camera when the cover went back on. Excellent point to make, all these pieces are put there for a reason so if it doesn’t come as part of the new parts/filters, then transfer over accordingly. Thanks for your support 👍
Thanks for the positive feedback, glad you found it useful. For the engine oil filter on this vehicle, the size of the oil filter cap is 65mm x 14 flutes. Please double check compatibility when purchasing that it covers your specific vehicle. Many thanks for your on-going support.
Hi My brother would like to do his own oil change he said he would like to use liqui moly 2326 oil 5w-30 is ok .The car is a discovery sport 2.0 lt 2016. Cheers
Hi, thanks for getting I touch. Although Liquid Moly is a very reputable brand and create and supply lots of automotive lubricants, I have never used their brand of engine oil in any vehicle let alone for a Land Rover engine. For such an engine, although the 5w-30 grade is quite generic and would be ok to use, I would highly recommend a more specific brand and grade of oil such as Comma Oil, Castrol or Shell. These engine required the best lubricant to run efficiently so for the longevity of the vehicle, it's always a good idea to spend that little bit more, especially to get an oil that is specific for diesel engines with DPF's or exhaust after treatment. Hope that helps and thanks again for your on-going support 🙂
Hi are the horror stories you hear about the 2lt diesel engines true? I have been looking at buy a second hand one of these but I am now reconsidering it.
Hi , need some advice. Just bought an velar 2017 p250 63k km at 56 the cam belts have been changed bcs rattle so that should be sorted. What are service intervals and when to service the transmission? Any advice would be nice! Kind of scared because of all the negativity about these cars, but also very excited to pick it up hah. Ive seen enough 2017 p250s on the internet with 150k km's so i hope it still has enough life in front of it.
Oh! Forgot to ask how did you reset the service indicator? I'm using iCarsoft LRII, but it won't clear the "Service Required" message on start up. Also tried using the Autel AP200...same result. Can you video the external water pump replacement? Mines not leaking yet but may be common to this model. Cheers
Yes, the water pump is a job that has been confirmed by the customer so that is in the pipeline. In regards to the service light, if the service light only it illuminated, you can only use diagnostic equipment. I’m surprised Autel won’t reset it but we use Snap-On which works every time. HOWEVER, if it’s the engine oil light then you can manually reset this. 1) Ignition on (engine off), open bonnet, open drivers door, press and hold brake pedal, then press and hold accelerator pedal, hold both for 10 seconds then release pedals. Turn of / on ignition and service light should be reset. Fingers crossed! 👍
Unfortunately it's the Service Required message only which won't clear. Snap-On is a bit rich for a home DIY'er so have to wait until Autel do an update to solve this issue. Look forward to the next video. Thanks.
@@nicknicolaou8512 understandable. The other technical issue to take into account, LandRover, Jaguar & Volvo now use a new type of communication interface called DOIP on all of their new models. Even Snap-On had to modify the OBD cable to be able to communicate. Without it sadly you may not be able to reset the service light without taking it to a garage that has a the appropriate connection. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it’s the manufacturers way of cornering the market still.
Great work! I have to wonder about the location of the air intake to see that much debris in the air box. Never seen any car like that. My current runabout Honda CRV doesn't get any, just black dust/dirt. Still, very tempted by the Sport, great looking and performing car. Problem is I think the ones I can afford have problematic timing chains on the back of the engine and problematic steering bolts... Although any still running might have been done by now. 🙂
Thank you for your positive comment, really appreciate your support. I do see from time to time these larger air intakes and it is surprising how much debris needs to be filtered. But these larger engines require larger volumes of air to perform, thus larger intakes. Agree, the looks overall for the sports are very appealing but the higher spec models will come with potential problems. Sadly it’s just the way LandRovers seem to be at the moment at one time or another. Hope those timing chains hold up for you 👍
@@greenautoservices Never thought about that, I wonder do diesels 'consume' more air than a 'gas' motor? Maybe :-) Going to look at a 2015 2.2l Discovery Sport tomorrow. Seems like the Ford Duratorq engined ones are the most reliable of the early DSs... :-)
@@handycrowd yes diesels in general have a larger air/fuel ratio for combustion hence the larger air intakes. An analogy I like to use also is imagine the engine is a pair of lungs. The bigger the engine (lungs) the more volume of air it can use / consume. Which is also why these bigger engines have larger exhaust systems to be able to expel the increased volume of used air (exhaust smoke) as efficiently as it takes it in. Hope that makes sense 👍
hello, nice video, I bought the new evoque P160 automatic model in 2021, it is a comfortable vehicle in general, but the land Rover group has put the air conditioner filter in a very problematic area for some reason, which means that the filter is damaged in the filter change, and also when you drive without air conditioning in the summer, the vehicle takes the engine temperature inside. Also a bug I hope land Rover is aware of it @landrover
Thanks for getting in touch. Wow, that does sound problematic. By air con filter do you mean the cabin filter or completely differently the air condenser receiver/drier? If so, it sounds like you may have an underline issue that needs resolving. If the vehicle is in warrantee, send straight back to dealer. And you certainly be getting the heat from the engine through if the desired temp is cold 🥶 hope you can get it rectified.
@@greenautoservices As I said, all the plastics in the car were overheated last summer, as the air conditioner filter, as I said, the perfume bottle in the armrest became like a flame. Thank you
@@greenautoservices yes, you are right, so if your air conditioner breaks down in the summer, you take both the outside heat and the heat from the engine inside ☺️ thank you very much for your attention.
hi, thanks for getting in touch. I don't have a part number for the sump plug washer but if you if you give the registration to a local supplier they will be able to find the correct one for that vehicle. The top companies I would use would be GSF Car Parts, Motor Parts Direct (MPD) or Euro Car Parts. These are highly reputable companies based across the UK. Thanks again
As long as it has full service history then you should be ok to not have to do anything extensive. Prior to a long trip though, always a good idea to have your local garage to do a health check including checking all levels, lights, tyres and pressures. I would probably have the battery tested. Over 50% of breakdowns is battery failure related. Hope that helps and thanks for getting in touch.
Hi there, thanks for getting gin touch. So, from memory I believe the oil filter housing tool was 83mm diameter approx with 16 flutes. Honestly, off the top of my head I'm not 100% sure without it to hand. What I'd recommend to do is measure the diameter of the filter cap, count how many flutes there are (flat faces around the outside the the filter) and that will give you the info required to order the correct tool. Super common and will not be hard to find on amazon. Good luck
Hi, thank you for the positive feedback. So we stock a large variety of sump plug washer and we get ours from one place (see the link) www.smartearlybird.co.uk/sump-washers/?page=2 The sump plug washer you need will also fit Fords , Vauxhall & Saab. This company can also send an assorted pack, which will definitely come with the correct washer. SW3 is the one I’d be ordering. I’d recommend call or contacting them just to confirm. Hope that helps 👍
I had mine serviced and bought the service pack from land rover so the warranty was still valid ..... however they refused to sell me the oil , an argument later I got the oil, £600 quid for a service is a disgrace
Hi Danny, thanks for getting in touch. It’s not surprising they kicked up a fuss about selling you the oil. Main dealers will always try and pin people into a corner just to get the service work. Glad you got what you needed in the end. Heads up though if you didn’t already know, for a warrantee service to be validated it does need to be undertaken by a VAT registered company as well as using original or equivalent products. Thanks again 👍
Not at a stupid question at all and it's actually a question I get asked a lot, which may actually prompt a new video. In my experience I have always changed out the oil filter first and i've never had any issues because of it. 9/10 times the oil filter is higher than the sump full of oil. Removing the oil filter first allows any remaining oil to drain down into the sump before draining the oil from the sump itself. If you did it the other way around, you'd risk having old oil mix with the new. But in all honesty I don't think it makes too much of a difference. If you hear any differently then don't hesitate to drop me a message. Thanks for getting in touch and or your support.
That is a good question. The honest answer is on that particular vehicle, I’m not too sure. Most the time with petrol vehicles there won’t be an external fuel filter (like diesels). Petrols will have a long life filter inside the fuel tank with the pump which doesn’t require changing on a regular basis. If you’re able to supply a vehicle registration (in the uk) I’d be happy to look into it to confirm. Thanks for getting in touch.
Do you know how to fix the gearbox fault issue on a 2019 Discovery Sport SE? I can't seem to find the blue battery in the foot panel like other people have.
Unfortunately gearbox faults can be caused my multiple reasons and depending on your symptoms I’d have to rely on fault codes to point me in the right direction. In regards to the blue battery, I would have thought this would be an auxiliary battery to power all the infotainment and luxury systems inside the car. Not know a vehicle to have them in the foot well but definitely check either side of your boot compartment as they are normally tucked away behind the side panels. Hope that helps 👍
That’s a great question. It was a while since if filmed but I believe it was an 80 or 85mm diameter wrench with 14 flutes. The vehicle isn’t with me and I can’t guarantee. If you need the tool to do it then I’d either suggest to get an adjustable tool or measure the diameter of the oil filter cap and count the amount of flutes (sides) the cap has. Thanks for getting in touch
P0258 code... I know it is fuel related but I'm having a hell of a time trying to find information on the matter... I'll take any help I can cultivate!
So like in the video you can cycle the ignition on and off for the fuel pump in the tank to prime the line and push any air through the system. Then when you crank the engine over the high pressure pump should push any remaining air through the system and through the return lines. If that fails though then it may need a bleed. Ideally you’ll need to disconnect the fuel return line that comes off the high pressure pump. Use a hand pump or pressure bleed to suck any remaining air out until fuel starts to come through. Then try and start the engine whilst still bleeding and it should fire when it does fire be quick to turn it off as you may spill fuel. Connect the line back up then start the engine and let it run to bleed itself out. Bleeding off the high pressure pump return line is the best location. Hope that helps 👍
@@greenautoservices Thanks mate. So i may need to connect the hand pump bleeder to the connection that had the Red plastic plug and suck it through 1st. hopfully it will do what you said anyways just want to be prepared.atb
@@russellsification you may need a hand primer bulb yes. If you do, siphon fuel from the outlet pipe of the new fuel filter (that goes to the engine). When fuel comes out that will indicate the new fuel filter is at least filled with fuel then just reconnect the line. I’m quite sure cycling the ignition a few times will work. It worked for me
@@greenautoservices Hello again. What side do I suck on to siphon, please? Is it the side that had the red plug? I cant seem to sus out what side is the outlets/goes to the engine. thanks in advance
@@russellsification just going through the video to remind myself of the system. So firstly look on top on the new filter as there may be an arrow indicating the direction of flow. If there is the arrow that points out of the filter will be the flow to the engine and that one will be the port you siphon fuel from. Looking through the video though I would actually say that it’s the connector with the yellow clip that you siphon from. But you can always try one or the other as only one will draw it through from the tank the through the filter. Lastly you can look at the fuel lines. One line will go toward the engine rather than away from it and then you can decide which one to siphon through. Hope that helps
This could likely be that the water sensor built into the fuel filter may need replacing, which would be the first thing I’d recommend to do as a course of maintenance. It would seem potentially severe as the vehicle is going into a limp mode. If changing the fuel filter doesn’t work then you’ll need further diagnostics to find the underline issue. Hope that helps.
@@videotree3034 there’s obviously a further underline issue that the engine control module is seeing and not liking, hence the reduced power. This will require further diagnostics to at least see what fault code(s) are in the system and then go from there.
Sadly to say, in a lot of cases, you’re totally right. Such a shame that such a premium vehicle can be so unreliable. Sorry to hear you need a new engine 😭

Thanks again for your comment and on going support. Really appreciate it 👍
Hello, I have a LR Disco Sport 2018.

Thanks for the video, very helpful. How the process will differ for the benzine engine?
Great and makes it look so easy
Will try this
Many thanks
Good !! now I know better what to do thanks a lot and happy new year !!
Thank you for your comment. Glad I could help! Happy New Year 🥳
You forgot to put new foam part on the side of the fuel filter. LR claims that is important to prevent rubing filter housing against other parts.
Great job. It really helped
What size is the oil filter remover cap?
Thanks for the positive feedback, glad you found it useful. For the engine oil filter on this vehicle, the size of the oil filter cap is 65mm x 14 flutes. Please double check compatibility when purchasing that it covers your specific vehicle. Many thanks for your on-going support.
Hi
My brother would like to do his own oil change he said he would like to use liqui moly 2326 oil 5w-30 is ok .The car is a discovery sport 2.0 lt 2016.
Nice clear video thank you
Always appreciate positive feedback. Thanks for getting in touch and apologies to the delayed response. All the best.
Hi are the horror stories you hear about the 2lt diesel engines true? I have been looking at buy a second hand one of these but I am now reconsidering it.
Yes. Yes they are.
This is an amazing video.
Hi , need some advice.
Just bought an velar 2017 p250 63k km
at 56 the cam belts have been changed bcs rattle so that should be sorted.
Maybe :-)
Going to look at a 2015 2.2l Discovery Sport tomorrow.
Hope that makes sense 👍
great videos please keep going
Hi can you do a video for Differential oil change pls .
As/when I get one in, of course. Let’s hope it’s soon 👍
hello, nice video, I bought the new evoque P160 automatic model in 2021, it is a comfortable vehicle in general, but the land Rover group has put the air conditioner filter in a very problematic area for some reason, which means that the filter is damaged in the filter change, and also when you drive without air conditioning in the summer, the vehicle takes the engine temperature inside.
Thank you
@@firatyaman7789 wow, can’t say I’ve experienced or even seen that before. I guess there’s always a first time for everything 👍🏼
@@greenautoservices yes, you are right, so if your air conditioner breaks down in the summer, you take both the outside heat and the heat from the engine inside ☺️ thank you very much for your attention.
Dear can you let me know the part number or where to get the rubber gasket from the oil drain plug, thank you
hi, thanks for getting in touch. Thanks again
absoloutely good
Thank you, appreciate all positive comments. Glad you enjoyed 👍
Just bought a 2019 Sport HSE with 28k miles. Leased prior to me, serviced regularly. Any suggestions prior to driving on 1000 + mile road trip?
As long as it has full service history then you should be ok to not have to do anything extensive. Prior to a long trip though, always a good idea to have your local garage to do a health check including checking all levels, lights, tyres and pressures. I would probably have the battery tested. Over 50% of breakdowns is battery failure related. Hope that helps and thanks for getting in touch.
sorry what is the size of the oil tool what goes over the oil cap so you can remove it.🤔
Hi there, thanks for getting gin touch. Good luck
Hi great video. Do you have a part number or link for the sump plug o ring as you can only buy the complete sump plug from JLR which seems wasteful.
Hi, thank you for the positive feedback. So we stock a large variety of sump plug washer and we get ours from one place (see the link) www.smartearlybird.co.uk/sump-washers/?page=2
The sump plug washer you need will also fit Fords , Vauxhall & Saab. This company can also send an assorted pack, which will definitely come with the correct washer. SW3 is the one I’d be ordering. I’d recommend call or contacting them just to confirm. Hope that helps 👍
@@greenautoservices Cheers many thanks and keep up the good work 👏

Brilliant UA-cam thanks
My pleasure, thank you :)
brilliant..
Thank you, glad you enjoyed
Great Information
Appreciate the positive feedback. Glad it helps 👍
Possibly stupid question, but why replace filter before oil? Or does not matter?
@@greenautoservices thanks for reply
Do you have also video for replace transmission oil - automatic?
@@StMatX Unfortunately not. Auto trans fluid changes can be tricky BUT also very interesting. I'll be sure to make content as/when I get one in.
Can you tell me where the fuel filter is located in a 2018 discovery HSE Lux supercharged petroleum engine
Thanks for getting in touch.
super😀
What is the 3:57 size of the wrench for the oil filter?
Thank you
👍 more than welcome, glad I could help
What size of oil filter cap do you need
That’s a great question. It was a while since if filmed but I believe it was an 80 or 85mm diameter wrench with 14 flutes. The vehicle isn’t with me and I can’t guarantee. If you need the tool to do it then I’d either suggest to get an adjustable tool or measure the diameter of the oil filter cap and count the amount of flutes (sides) the cap has. Thanks for getting in touch
P0258 code... I know it is fuel related but I'm having a hell of a time trying to find information on the matter... I'll take any help I can cultivate!
how do you blead the air out of the fuel filter to ensure it will start
Great vid! Would appreciate a 2.2 duratorq version too
Thanks for the comment. I’ll be sure to make a video when I next work on that engine 👍
I have a disco sport 2018 diesel
I have warning of water in fuel and restricted performance
Any suggestions.
@@greenautoservices thanks
I had full service and its still there. Is this there error?
@@videotree3034 was that warning on before you had the service?
Yes mate
@@videotree3034 there’s obviously a further underline issue that the engine control module is seeing and not liking, hence the reduced power. This will require further diagnostics to at least see what fault code(s) are in the system and then go from there.
Now let me think.... that's a lady's car.
🤔 perhaps a hairdressers car maybe
@@greenautoservices Could be, many of us are familiar with the inevitable outcome.
The best way to save money with an LR is to not own one, new engine at 60k anyone?
Sadly to say, in a lot of cases, you’re totally right. Such a shame that such a premium vehicle can be so unreliable. Sorry to hear you need a new engine 😭
155,000 kms and still counting on a diesel Discovery Sport from 2017. I had a turbo failure at 100,000 kms though and I had to replace it…
I’ve owned my 2018 disco sport from new . Although I’m not in a position to do my own servicing, it is so useful to understand what needs to be done and how to do it. As for an ownership experience it has been faultless and a complete pleasure to own . Don’t listen to the LR trolls.
Check out Auto Trader many early examples are now exceeding well over 100k miles.
