I haven't got around to buying a PS5 yet, but now I've retired. I'm thinking of getting one to keep my brain active.
Based on my experience of earlier GT games, there's nothing wrong with using 3rd person whilst you're getting used to the cars/tracks, and then switching to cockpit to really try out the driver experience.
But yes, use whichever camera you are happy with.

hood view is the best, but it is at times confusing when some hood camera sits more to the roof and some more to the front. I personally prefer it to be placed just in front of the roof. The only problem is that there is no mirror when you have to race others (AI or people).

Third person because of the wider field of view.
When nasty drivers are trying to ram me, I can usually see them setting up and try to avoid them.

I use the “bumper” view with the mirror, but it’s not on the bumper. It’s higher up and further back, which you can tell when you’re right behind someone. I would guess it’s either supposed to be at the bottom of the windscreen or kind of two thirds of the way up the bonnet. I feel it gives the best view of the road, the rear view mirror is essential and the MFD is centred on the screen, which makes it much easier to change brake balance/traction control/fuel mapping without taking your attention away from the road. If you compare it to bumper cam on other sims/games you’ll notice the difference in position of the camera.

  • @deesee76

Agreed, cockpit view is the simulation view. Any other view just becomes unrealistic.
next iteration needs option to change the FOV, seat adjustments, pitch and triple monitor support and more fine grain FFB options - this is one of the main reason i prefer ACC and iRacing on the PC even though the graphics doesn’t look as easy on the eye as GT7.
even though i’m a PC guy, i do enjoy a occasional GT7 session. imagine this gets ported to the PC….

If i want to be competitive especially online, then ill use bumper cam.

From.the offset with gtsport I've been using bumper cam with mirror . Personally want all that view coming at me. Cockpit is too restrictive and chase cam is too unrealistic. Even if I found myself more competitive in chase I could never use it as its just too "video game" as opposed to "sim racing game". Interestingly Tidgney (some of you may know was on for 3rd place in gtsport world champs until he got punted off track). He did a video testing all the different views. To his surprise he found bumper cam with mirror fastest, (a view he was not using at the gtsport world championships)

Chase (third person), for me the best. It's not a question of ease, it's an almost philosophical reflection. In real life a pilot "sees" all the conditions of the vehicle using more than his eyes, he uses his body and all the sensations reverberated in him. When we watch a driver driving the car we tend to think that from his point of view it all boils down to what he can see while sitting in the cockpit, but we also tend to forget that he doesn't just see with his eyes. In the case of games, when we play a simulator we ourselves are sitting on a couch or chair and we do not receive IN OUR BODIES the other physical information involved in piloting and that would allow the senses of our bodies to capture and thus build an amplified view of the conditions between the car and the track. AND THIS IS EXACTLY what the distant vision allows, we can explicitly see the whole vehicle in this type of external camera, this allows us to have the same "complete vision" that a pilot has from inside the vehicle but in his case the image is formed from the sensory stimuli received by the body. It seems ironic but playing simulator with chase cam brings the experience closer to realism than with all the other pretentious visions of the game, cockpit, hood, etc. 😉

Wow people really are obnoxious. 3rd person view is how racing games were born, first off. That's how I started racing games in the 80's with games like Test Run 2, Out Run. That's how Mario Kart was made, that's how F-Zero was made too, and how Gran Turismo 1 was made??? Hello? This is a classic and nostalgic view that us vets will always love and for good reason. Second, there ain't nobody on this comment thread good enough to compete in GT Academy, so this elitism sim racing BS is just that, all BS. With all the sim racing options and peripherals now available you still aren't good enough to get paid for this so, joke is on you for even trying to force your preferences onto others, LOL. Play the game however you want, enjoy playing in the views that you like. I myself like playing all of them. They all offer a different perspective. When cockpit view was introduced as a standardized option, I was definitely beyond happy. But it's sad that people try to force this on other people from, what it seems like, sim racing elitism. Well you can go ahead and F-Off, I'll play any damn way I please, so good luck LOL.

I always use the hood/roof view because it is easier to spot braking points, allowing me to do constant lap times and if a crash occurred ahead. I would spot it quicker so I have plenty of time to react.

Ever since the day Psvr2 was released, I only play in Vr, before that it was cockpit view, I bought a "SIM RIG" to Play a "Racing Simulator" so the realistic view is the only viable one in my opinion. But I appreciate everyone has their preference. Maybe one day I'll strap myself to the bumper or bootlid of my Boxster S and give it a blast along a back road. I get that the cockpit view has its restrictions but then again there are so many cars that I have driven that have A-Pillars that I swear were designed to cause and accident.

Cockpit is fastest when your immersed into the game as you can get as close to your potential in real life or your just artificially fast in my eyes just takes time to get used to the bumper cam yeah you can see car but you know where your wheels are when you get used to it and have analog info so you know where your shift points are for sure the fact they don’t have an rpm number ontop the rpm meter is terrible for the bonnet cam and they need a mirror like all the mirrors and info work and in detail in cockpit sure they can add a mirror or indicators on screen where cars are and not in bottom right corner

Cockpit may offer the least advantage, but I love it for the immersion. I'd use 3rd person more if the camera wasn't so "stiff (?)" and the fact that the car itself always blocks my view of the road, especially on hills. Might try the hood camera sometime, but I don't like the bumper cam, I need at least some frame of reference between my car and the road.

if you arent using VR then irrespective of how fast you are you are playing a game, VR IS simulation, it is the upper tier now and i suspect the great leveller, anything lower than VR isnt credible any more IMO
appreciate that might sound elitist and many cant afford the VR but if you fancy yourself as a sim racer then it HAS to be VR and imo the GT OFFICIAL race stuff should force the drivers to use it

Sadly GT7 is a console game aimed at kids as well as adults so the game now blurs the line between sim and arcade game but it’s roots are a game not a sim. I love the fact I don’t need to buy a £2k PC to play in VR now and GT7 has absolutely nailed VR sim racing since the February upgrade but it’s great that everyone gets to race together. I used to use bumper cam in GTS (not the roof cam which he also called bumper cam), but since switching to cockpit cam in GT7 the level of satisfaction and enjoyment has rocketed, when you can see the cars next to you or just in front of you from within the cockpit when you're racing close, the sense of immersion is immense which makes it so much more enjoyable, can only imagine how good VR must be

Bumper cam will easily be the quickest out of all camera angles, as you know exactly where to place the car on apex entry/exit. I play for realism, though. Even if I'm 1-2 seconds off the pace of the fastest guys in the world in cockpit mode, it doesn't matter to me. I want to get the full experience. And it makes me happy to know that if I'm a bumper cam driver, I'm easily into the top 2% in the world, and in some cases, in the top 1%.
