I use the cockpit view. At its heart Gran Turismo is a racing simulation after all, not an arcade game. In my opinion GT7 should make some competition and options for lobbies with the option to lock the view.

Based on my experience of earlier GT games, there's nothing wrong with using 3rd person whilst you're getting used to the cars/tracks, and then switching to cockpit to really try out the driver experience.

Easy fix for cockpit view feeling to close… sit forward with vr before the race starts. Once it sets your camera sit back and enjoy. If you feel to tall, sit up a bit more to when you lean forward.

Bumper cam will easily be the quickest out of all camera angles, as you know exactly where to place the car on apex entry/exit. I play for realism, though. Even if I'm 1-2 seconds off the pace of the fastest guys in the world in cockpit mode, it doesn't matter to me. I want to get the full experience. And it makes me happy to know that if I'm a bumper cam driver, I'm easily into the top 2% in the world, and in some cases, in the top 1%.

If i want to be competitive especially online, then ill use bumper cam.
If i want to showcase or feel immersed in a real driving experience then ill use cockpit.
Summary: appreciate car designs i watch TV style replay. Online/competitive driving i use bumper. Offline/casual showcase i use cockpit.

From.the offset with gtsport I've been using bumper cam with mirror . Personally want all that view coming at me. Cockpit is too restrictive and chase cam is too unrealistic. Even if I found myself more competitive in chase I could never use it as its just too "video game" as opposed to "sim racing game". Interestingly Tidgney (some of you may know was on for 3rd place in gtsport world champs until he got punted off track). He did a video testing all the different views. To his surprise he found bumper cam with mirror fastest, (a view he was not using at the gtsport world championships)

I have been a 3rd person driver for the past 25 years as a casual gamer who always played racing games for fun and wasn't a hardcore sim racer. That all changed when I fired up the PSVR2 a couple months ago with the Woojer Vest 3 and IEM headphones. So much fun and the killer VR app that changes everything! I am now so hooked that I plan to save up for a wheel, seat, and pedals. I think it is entirely possible to overcome most the downfalls you mentioned why you don't recommend the VR view. Some cars are worse than others with visibility. But with killer immersion of sound and haptics that rattle your core, the fun factor goes up exponentially. I have also exclusively used the gyroscope steering with a dual sense pro controller since I don't have a wheel. The only time I don't play in VR is when the Haptic Vest needs a charge and then I switch to Third person. I have a 144hz monitor so I get a visual upgrade. Still would trade that visual upgrade 100% of the time for being in the cockpit of these amazing vehicles.

I totally agree on the view ahead on track being easier in 3rd person. I use the bumper view mostly when using my wheel set-up. Sometimes i have to change to the top of the hood view(roof) when I'm having difficulties seeing corners up ahead, and when elevations change going into corners. I've used cockpit view a few times, but without the VR headset, or a big TV screen, it's very limiting on what you're able to see.

I've tried using chase cam in GTS/GT7 it just loses all the immersion for me. Super GT used to get all sorts of flack for using chase cam in GTS/GT7.

I use the “bumper” view with the mirror, but it’s not on the bumper. It’s higher up and further back, which you can tell when you’re right behind someone. I would guess it’s either supposed to be at the bottom of the windscreen or kind of two thirds of the way up the bonnet. I feel it gives the best view of the road, the rear view mirror is essential and the MFD is centred on the screen, which makes it much easier to change brake balance/traction control/fuel mapping without taking your attention away from the road. If you compare it to bumper cam on other sims/games you’ll notice the difference in position of the camera.

When using VR cockpit view is best but when you arent, hood view is best for this argument. The controller or wheel in front of you is your dash and the screen is the window there is no point to limit yourself further. However, i use 3rd person because i like it and im comfortable with it.
