Sorry, i already asked this question. I just about to pull this job, and I want all my ducks in a row.Thank you for all the help.
This was great. I am currently in the process of changing my G2 rear diff.. the original howls horribly at about 650 miles on it. Trail riding and use at the hunting camp... So instead of rebuilding, i bought a new one from a guy that makes these checks before he sells them. He told me the backlash is about 6 on the dial indicator, so with the information you gave that should be good. Thanks for actually showing how its set up 👍🏻
Just wanna say thanks man, just rebuilt my diff on my 2018 850 outy and your video was a great resource! Don't know if my backlash is perfect, but it seems a lot tighter than stock....thanks again man
Did you buy additional shims to fix the backlash? Or what?
Thank you so much for this video! I am going to be doing this on my machine and I have rebuilt different DIfferential, but its nice to see what I am getting into! Appreciate the time you took to make your video! You got my subscribe and Thumbs up!
Great video Frankie! This might come in handy some day. I like how clean your shop is...maybe one day you could come and clean mine for me LOL Thanks for the video!
You know I do just about anything for you buddy!! Ya I made sure to clean up the garage before the film crew showed up. lol..
Good video, thanks. The Can Am units are all built using the metric system and since that measuring system is considerably easier to use you'd probably be better off to stick with that system. I think all other ATVs also use that system, even, surprise, surprise General Motors mostly goes that way.
All good stuff buddy. Very informational shims, backlash, preload. Should help somebody out a lot! Not your first time eh
Thanks KC. These were all the questions I had my first time going into this little repair. Thought I could do it with just a few wrenches that I had in my tool box. Obviously that wasn't the case with these things. So hopefully this can help someone out.
Great job on video very helpful 👍
I am having trouble pulling left and right drive shafts in order to remove the rear G1 diff. I’ve tried the strap, wrap and yank. What else might I try?
Good videos informative and good know how and is pretty much the same with all brands
I enjoy working on my own toys and getting to know how they work.
Good work keep the vids comming and maybe in spring see ya on the trails
Thanks Shaun. I'm sure you know how expensive this hobby of ours can get. Every little bit we can do ourselves is a bonus and gratifying.
I'm sure you won't be able to miss us this year. Were the only guys out on the trails drinking espressos. lol..
When your checking backlash. How much do you know you need to push against that bar/metal? Like what tells you to not push more or are you pushing just enough until you hear the teeth mesh?
any idea which new can am atv would have the stronger diffs. other than the 1000s. Thanks. great videos.
The 1000s have the same diff it's the xmrs that have stronger diffs
Great videos thanks 👍🏼
What about the gasket thicknes, doesn't that factor in. when you temporarly screw it together, you are gonna have another thickness factor.
There is no gasket, but it does have a large O ring type seal on inside that doesn't affect clearance. Just make sure the 2 halves are tight together or your right. It will affect clearance if there not. Just be cautious you don't over tighten the 2 halves as the treads in the cast can easily strip.
What about the case gasket, doesn't that make for more spacers?
not a gasket....o-ring
great video i hope you cleaned anti seize ?
You know, I had a feeling someone was gonna ask that. But no your right, I didn't clean it because I knew it would never be installed on any machine. It's basically just for spare parts. Thanks for check out the channel.
How do you check backlash without the tools
by feel...if you have the experience :)
Do you no what the shims should be on a 2018 xmr 570 I think I got them backwards igot 2 thin ones and a thicker one
That is the reason he is showing how to check the back lash. Every diffirential is different. Yours may take a certain shim on one side while mine might take it on the opposite side. 👊
Que medida tiene el PTR
Jarret from Mud'nWheels told me every factor CanAm diff he's taken apart is different. I found that odd, but now I understand after watching this. Good videos BTW. Very nicely explained! Who's diff was that? Just a spare one you have kickin' around?
Yup Jarret definitely knows his stuff and comes highly respected within the Can Am world. I watched all his videos and the guy doesn't let anyone know his secrets. I came very close to send my diff off to him with the frustration of taking the diff off and on half dozen times till finally getting it right.
That diff was off Zepp's machine when he busted the case in Calabogie last year. Remember that video "Zepp loses his nuts"
Yes, I remember that video. Did Zepp buy a new diff? Maybe you should take that one apart and set it up properly also?????
