I put in a case to BRP with the video attached asking them to pass it along to their tech dep and parts quality control, thanks for the info Jarrett....we will chat this week 👍
I have a 2016 XTP 1k and my rear diff went prematurely. 🤔 My local dealer gave me a hard time about it but eventually BRP warrantied it. I ended up upgrading to an XMR diff. It’s definitely going to be coming out now and checked. This all was done in mid 2017. Thanks for all of your research!
Almost regret buying the 2019 850 xmr last month, i don't have it yet but most likely they did not address these problems, since they've been there for a few yrs now. I'm hoping they did, otherwise it's a few $'s right off the bat. I know the warranty is there but who wants a new bike in the shop for who knows how long. Thanx you for catching this, i'll know what to look for if these symptoms shows up.
hey yvon i dont publish this type of info to make people feel regret. these are awesome machines and i am sure you will love it. now having said that they do have a few issues but maintenance is key. if you keep up on the maintenance and take care of a few known issues you will have many good years with it. congrats on the new toy
Dear mudNwheels, what you publish makes people feel a lot of things and regret can be one of them. That being said i do understand that Quality has for most case "gone out the door" and money is priority, for companies such as these. It's VERY good that we have people like you looking out for others. I'm sure i'll be pleased we it once the issues will be addressed and yes "maintenance" is most important as i'm a HEO and truck driver. On that note keep up the good work as everybody needs to know of these issues before hand to make good decisions and know what there getting into. Thanx mudNwheels
Lots of good info. I decided to spend money once and bought the XMR Torque Series diff conversion kit shaft from Mud-n-Wheels. Just about screwed up and bought a new diff from Can Am and would have have issues again almost immediately.
this might be the same problem we are having with the 2016 xmrs. 3 x 2016 xmr 1000r and 1 x 2016 850 xmr. all 4 machines have started to show signs of water leakage around 1000 kms. they never show signs of seals weeping etc. but when you pull the fill plug out the oil/water would come pouring out. one was so bad you could see it in the vent line lol. all 4 machines have been switched to baffles and the water is no longer "filling them". we are on rebuild 1 and soon to be 2.
@mudNwheels Time to tear the bike apart, now sadly the pinon bearing is totally shot with a lot of play so it'll be interesting to see the wear in the diff. If it's just the bearing and the seal I'll manage to fix that locally since the bike hasn't been in water, but that long propshaft probably needs to be replaced...
Great videos, i have a question, 2016 can am xmr 1000r pulled rear driveshaft out there was no bolt on the engine side, is there supposed to be ? second the bolt to the gear case had 2 washers small and big, which one goes toward gear case ?
good evening Jarret i have a 2014 outlander 1000 max Ltd. my bike doneits first diff at 802km and i had the shop put a new diff in it. .......Only done 25km on the new diff and its whining and the diff got very warm in that short time. i will take my tailshaft out and let you know.
Great video, just have a question for you. You said anything under 2 degrees is acceptable (therefore not out of phase,) correct? That's what you said towards the end, but you also mentioned you sent them in to the shop if they were over 1 degree. Was that to "be safe" or do you actually recommend anything over 1 degree is corrected? Thanks for the informative video.
What about the earlier models? I have a 2013 Outlander Max XT 1000 and i haven't pulled it apart but there is alot of play in the axles and rear diff ...
i have seen a few of the earlier machines have bad shafts how ever if you made it this long with no real damage then your shaft is probably okay unless it is worn out u joints slip joint splines
I have a question can you put heat to the bolt on the output shaft for the U-joint mine won't come loose I have a 4 foot pry bar on it with 170 lb at the end of it won't budge any trick or solution?
I have a 2016 renegade xmr , has been in the garage more than in the dirt , I went through three differential then I bought a mudnwheels diff it lasted twice as long as all three factory ones but ended up failing but not cause of diff it ended up being the drive shaft all along like mudnwheels informed me threw email . just did a kawasaki teryex course spline on slip joint fine on other end tried a dozen different positions and would not phaze 100 % looked at a polaris and it looked to be 22.5 degrees i dont get it seems like they all just weld them together rather than pitting in a jig
I just bought a 22 renegade 850 it had 470 miles on it. I put around 50 miles on it and I noticed it started making a noise in the rear I thought I had a stick or something stuck and rubbing something. Then I noticed it started howling and the howling would go away at 30 and start howling again at 32. I dumped the rear diff oil out it was new oil that had fine metal in it. So I took it to the dealer today and I told them what was going on and they said they never heard of can am having diff problems.
okay so true story. we just put one of our diffs and drive shafts in ostacruisser's 21 renegade . the shaft in that bike was almost 2 degrees out of phase. i can say this the issue has gotten better over the years but it is still not perfect. so when you buy your new machine it is worth having a look at it
