- Alex Roy - Gumball 3000 & Bullrun veteran - is interviewed by "32 Hours, 7 Minutes" Director Cory Welles about the modifications to his BMW M5. 32 Hours 7 minutes is the US transcontinental speed record, set on the 1983 US Express, the highly secretive successor to the legendary Cannonball Run.

people really should check there facts before commenting. alex roy is a legend and is one of few people who had the knowledge and balls to do what he has
I've never gotten the impression he has an interest in defending it. Some things you just do to have done them.
Alex Roy is a cool dude i got to talk to him @ the NYC auto show 08. 31 hours & 7 mins is crazy. every mod on and in his car was well worth every penny spent. A+ for the fuel cell More MPG . its the nicest e39 ive ever seen
Just finished reading the accompanying book to this vid. Brilliant, recommend it to any speed freak. Awesome effort...32 hours 4 minutes, well done chaps
Sweet ride, sweet set-up.
He's definitely leaving no stone unturned and making sure he's got everything he needs.
Pure professionalism.
i love it, the night vision camera is probably my favorite feature.
Very well equipped for high speed cruising...
The book is a great read.
If you are a car guy you will devour it in 2 days like I did.
I'm loving those strobe lights.
Great Book! now I want to give the gumball a try..
im reading his book right now. that is one sweet car
Gotta love the sirens, pure MadMax style.
Great video!! Great car!! Whos gonna break the new trans continental record next?
my dream car
This is that guy who set the record for the "Cannonball Run" beating the old record by about an hour. He needed all that stuff so that he could evade cops, who have radios and helicopters.
HOLY CRAP that is soo sick
they did it in 31hrs 4mins! amazing stuff
Amazing man. read his book, aaaaaaand M5 what else...
It took me forever to figure it out, but he has a Whelen MPC01 or something very similar to it.
How does he run all the electronics in the car at the same time? I mean can the car's charging system handle the load?
typically people add extra batteries, a larger alternator, or something to that effect. Did Alex do this or is this all on the stock system?
so what exactly do all those scanners detect?
Does anyone know how Alex increased the capacity of his fuel tank on the BMW? I think that would be a very useful/cool mod for long distance travel (I do alot of it).
What's the point of the handheld scanner if you already have the other two?
Was this filmed in Tuckahoe NY?
Its so he can detect from both front and rear and also one for backup
are the red white and blue lights illegal? they look great
btw, I have driven a 5 series with twin turbo... and my friend has a 3 series... and I have seen some M3's running around with turbo... idk if it's stock or not... bimmers are popular with kids around my town..
Wonder what oil they used?
Are these scanners/jammers illegal in uk?
how do you know that this car doesn't have any turbo? i read the wired mag article, and it described that there was a turbocharger spooling up as he was punching it down the highway.
Do you guys have a lot of speed cameras in the US?
Makes sense.
I am going to try breaking this record next summer with my zx14 running e85 :)
what is the final of this car?
This guy is some type of twisted james Bond in the making. Phat setup although he is stretching it a bit with all those gizmos.
you are my hero
does anyone know huw much it is to get a radar detector and laser detector in canada?
is it any good?
i was planning on buying it...
Yes sorry 31•04 is the record they set, my mistake
sick!!!
thats great!
I was thinking about picking it up, is it really that interesting?
Getting traffic to move out of the way
Do you know of any police departments in the US that use E39 M5's?
Is that illegal to have blue lights like that? What about the sirens?
Can someone verify something for me? When he made his record run, it shows they only stopped for gas 2 times. The first time was in El Reno, OK which is almost 1500 miles from where they began. The problem I have is they filled up at they pumped 34.606 gallons of fuel in, and given the theory they began with a full tank, they would've gotten close to 43 MPG! I don't see how they got that good of MPG considering their average speed was 90 MPH. Anyone have any answers or speculations?
damn, nice M5 James Bond.
this car is better then the 7-series, Z3, and Z8 James Bond used combined!
@XenatR Yes sadly, although the chances of getting caught with a detector are pretty low.
the book was awesome!
"Reifenpanne? Mein Gott! you must shtop ze car immediately!"
"but we're doing Gumball right now."
"you are in Gumball? you must call me when you finish!
anybody know where I might be able to purchase those Whelen strobe lights and led's for my car? I wana get them too! lol
That's not professionalism, that's just pure fun! lol
I mean the look of it, I know that the supra can have some serious performance. It just looks like all the typical ricer cars, esp its w/ big spoiler. That's why I gave the STi as an example too. So maybe I used the incorrect term. But remember not all supras are turbos :P
mechanical masterpiece! 5 stars
Alex Roy: He has more balls than you.
Do you think that mattered to them? Given all the other equipment and methods they employed, the lights are the least of their worries.
Alex said on Letterman's :"5 and a half stops"
what does he mean fuel cell capasity?????????
He forgot his fuckin' boozoka
I am not very sure if all the mods on this car are legal but I still want one
@ariell92 he says its a 2000 BMW M5 ... not 2005 ...
I would like to know as well.
eh eh, me too! hes a cool guy!!
Alex, get a Stinger DSI with LaserShield. It has a patch antenna instead of a horn antenna which is much better and the laser function works wonderfully. Just search UA-cam on Stinger DSI.
i ment to say arent* lol how did he get away with em?
i live in palisdades!
NY to palisades
@ariell92 They did NOT make the E39 5 Series in 2005. The 2005 M5 is an E60, very different car.
@Darkc0w I don't think it's illegal to have them, but it is illegal to use them on the road.
yeah for sure, i wouldn't care what my interior looked liked as long as i could listen in.
where's the diamond in the back?
Right up my ally....
damm did not know that you will never have to fill up then.
@pass558 2005 he says it at the start of the video
@MrJonnyJones I do see that now, sorry! I know he used SHO ME's for the Gumball though, lol.
actaully hes added like 8 12v outlets
Wat about a radar to pick up ufo signals
Blinder M25 Xtreme
Wow just One radar detector you would think they would have 2 or another V1 in the back window
lol... he was
doin like 150 in heavy rain...
he was hydroplaning it and was still goin.
Not illegal to have scanner in your car mate, been pulled over and cops see mine all the time. The lights in his car are not illegal either unless he actually uses the lights on a public highway.
Joshua bonagofsky - You like the M5 BMW V8 s mate?
Good luck to him if he ever gets caught using the jammers or the lights in public... Those are some serious charges.
Fuel cell = gas tank.
He's got an extra 16 gallon fuel tank in the trunk.
@MANUALmobile SHO ME is the brand, I think..
The Driver
So they posed as police? Look at his "uniform" also love the red and blue strobes!
Well Alex, it looks like your record just got beaten.
Go on, defend your title!
32 hours 4 minutes?
thats a german polics uniform. he is an "outlaw rally racer" lol.
he races in the gumball rally and those kinds of races
they are called team polizei
is the robocop car!
@dirtjumper23 not realy. i mean the wear seat belts :P nar but gps isnt illigal some of the items in the car are not illigal
man i love gumball 3000.. rich people that dont care about speed tickets :P
haha @ 1:28
holy fuck. CB radio scanners and jammers!
i just found out, its a custom design
Maybe it isn't illegal in whatever country you're from, but it's illegal in several U.S. states. Laws differ from one state to the next.
cool liscence plate INPOL144
@bordenwesley its illigal to even have them
touche
when you read the book, you'll see. he inherited a business renting euro cars from his parents
Possibly, but again I can't really see the point. And if you've supercharged it, you'd be looking at 600hp, so the additional strain would probably take it's toll on a standard box. Not to mention the driveshaft linkages and what not. And you'd probably want to customise the gear ratios if you're going to that much trouble. But if you're desperate to do 200mph for whatever reason, buy a second hand Hayabusa and do it on two wheels, much more fun.
do not forget the old 2002 turbo.....170hp
