    On Christmas Eve 1926, the people of Farwell, TX woke up and discovered a nightmare had taken place in their quiet little town. A local woman named Susan Hassell and her 8 children were found brutally murdered in a shallow grave in town. And no one had to guess who had committed the murders…it was Susan’s husband and the stepfather of her children, George Hassell. But the townspeople were about to find out just how depraved George really was…because this was not his first family massacre.

      Reminds me of the guy that had the family photo done then killed his whole family on Christmas day, just before or slightly after the start of the 20th century. It was likely due to the fact he impregnated his teen daughter. She looked 7 months in the family photo! We were treating the case as if we were contemporaries so we could understand how he got himself all jammed up. He had lots of older sons, surprised he didn't pawn the blame, Bo DNA back then. Plus the funeral director protected the killers family name by denying the faetus.

      @CountessBathory418 ✅✅✅ Thank you for this interesting math trivia ~ it’s important to maintain perspective. Of course, tho, BEFORE I take it for granted, I do the minimum research & my own math. I found the comparison of $1.00 in 1915 to 2023 ranges from $24.74 to $29.38 SO for $20.00 in 1915 would be worth between $514. ~ $588.
      ((( 24.74 x 20 = $514.80 $29.38 =$587.60 )))
      I didn’t research anything else from this story. 🙂👋🇨🇦

I know it's sad but it's important to learn about it so signs can be picked up on others in the future before same scenarios happen with other mass (serial) killers. So like my professors and educators taught me....toughen up buttercup. No offense meant.

    Interesting fact - when Prohibition was in effect, domestic abuse of women and children went down by a lot. Alcohol really does do damaging things to society.
    Not saying without alcohol this guy wouldn't have committed murder - he seems like a true psychopath. Also not saying we should go back to prohibition. Maybe I'm saying, we could stand to drink less, as a society - through our own choices, informed by the facts.

    • @thelemurofmadagascar9183
      @thelemurofmadagascar9183 9 днів тому +1

      I personally would have zero problem with banning alcohol. It's just as destructive as other banned substances such as cocaine. Not because alcohol is inherently as harmful as cocaine is, but because of how much more people indulge in alcohol. Literally hundreds of thousands of people's lives are taken by alcohol, and many more suffer from abuse because of it. Society would be a million times better off without it.

    It’s early in, but George claiming that prison “made him a killer” is such BS. My oldest brother went to prison once as an 18 year old for stealing and it scared him straight. George seems like a pathological liar who takes zero accountability for his crimes and poor behaviour. He made all of those choices on his own.
    Finished watching: I stand by my first statement. Prison doesn’t create psychopaths, but a few of them end up there.

      I agree to an extent, but did you brother go to an early 20th century Texas prison farm?! Did you hear her explain what happened there? Nothing like modern prison, undeniably way more traumatic and abusive. Not saying that excuses him becoming a killer though, clearly this dude was a freak before prison lol

    • @juliannakirksey9065
      @juliannakirksey9065 8 місяців тому +59

      Have you been to prison???? Your brother was the exception NOT the rule. George has major problems but to say prison doesn't do things to people mentally is FALSE AF. Your opinion is verrry naive about prison, no disrespect.

    • @juliestrickland7754
      @juliestrickland7754 8 місяців тому

      @@juliannakirksey9065I agree. Ashamed to admit it, but I've been. Nothing major, but still wrong. Due to a screw up with my parole plan, I ended up being there for 10 months instead of the 2 I was supposed to. I didn't pick up any new bad habits there, but I still have PTSD that has resulted in my having some problems in everyday life. Most of the people there are repeat offenders. They don't learn anything and don't change. Some do, most don't. I made friends with one woman from my town who has been back 5-6 times in the 4 years I've been out. She's not a horrible person, but she never learns s##t, and it's no.big deal to her. It's sad. And prison today, while not fun, is NOTHING like it was at the turn of the century. Prisons then were truly hell holes.
      This dude had enough problems when he went in, and as young as he was, there is NO way it didn't make horrible, irrevocable impressions on him. If he had been made to work and be responsible for paying back what he stole while on a severely monitored parole type situation, it may have actually taught him something instead of prison scarring his 18 year old mind. Twisted or not, he was a kid. Sorry. I'll get off my soapbox now.

His wife was found buried off of a local hiking trail when someone looking for treasures with a metal detector happened upon her because of her pacemaker. While she was missing he started dating another woman and she is still missing to this day. Both victims were intellectually disabled and it’s so sad. I knew them because I work locally in the behavioral health field. They seem to have been forgotten and deserve justice.

    Another pointless factoid from me: in central and northern Texas, livestock ponds on farms and ranches are called tanks. They aren't typically physically crafted holders of water, just ponds. Usually, they're sizeable because livestock need a ton of water in summer. It always confused me as a child when my mom would talk about the "tanks" until she explained it.

There are so many stories from the 60s-90s where cops just drop the ball and where wives are complicit in the crimes their husbands commit. She acknowledged the baby. Do you stop to think that maybe back in those days it wasn't counted as a life the way it is today? She did count the unborn baby in case you're hard of hearing.

      @@Littlemissdirtbag the unborn were valued back then. A family would be in mourning for them.

    my mother used to swim in the creek when they dammed it up for the prisoners to bathe at her family's farm....mid 1930s era rural N. Georgia......they had a "road crew" "prisoner work camp" right on their property.......just like "Cool Hand Luke" with Paul Newman, but a thousand times worse conditions.

    The prison farms providing a much, MUCH harsher punishment for *consensual* sex than for rape is insane. Traumatizing someone for life is fine, but god forbid you’re a little fruity 🙄🙄

    I think that him not giving up the names was a control thing. Names are considered powerful. Him denying the victims names to authorities was him keeping control over the victims. It’s a narcissistic act.
