I get so triggered by the whole "everyone said he was so polite and perfect!" Of course he was! If they acted evil on the outside everyone would know! My dad was extremely abusive but you'd never guess that if you judged him on how he acted when anyone else was around! He'd still manage to exert his authority around others, he'd just do it covertly- I remember once something as simple as asking him for a bite of his candy bar or swallow of soda when I was only about 4.. he just smiled and said he'd save me a bite, tell his friend we had to go and secretly throw away the candy on the way out.. his friend didn't see him throw it, but I did. And it was a message. A message that was brought farther home to me when we got home and I got beaten for having the nerve to ask him to share. It seems so subtle but it's really impactful...it shows the person being abused that even in public Dad will find a way to punish you, and it'll be even worse when you get home alone. It makes you realize absolutely no one is coming for you. No one even knows you need help.

This resonates with me so much, I was abused by my father for the vast majority of my childhood. He went to jail only for my “hero” of a stepmother to resume what he had been doing. Yet everyone thought she was the savior of us because she always showed the public how loving and affectionate she could be. She never abused her biological kids, only us. Everyone around us was oblivious to them both being so horrific to us. We were all too scared of what would happen at home, to tell teachers or anyone else. I’d witnessed my younger siblings get kicked in the ribs and stomachs, punched in the head and face, beaten across their bodies with belts, being the oldest I held so much guilt thinking I could have done something. But nobody would have listened bc they never saw any signs, so they say. They wouldn’t have believed us anyway because we were the “dirty poor” kids.

    • @RetroMonkey1999
      @RetroMonkey1999 Рік тому +11

@Chleorrrr Norrrrr I'm so sorry. It's a side of people children shouldn't see, especially from their parents. And you had it doubly bad. I was lucky to have an extremely supportive and loving mother. My older brothers got the worst of the physically abusive treatment. I saw mostly mind games and straight up emotional neglect from him. It was almost like he was just some random guy to me who I had to call "dad". Luckily I'm actually adopted so I no longer even call him that. He really IS just a random person to me now. It's been years since we talked. I think "I'm sorry your mother died" are the only words I've said to him in probably 8 years and that was only because it's literally the least I'd say to any human being in that situation.

I saw this story on "Evil Lives Here" and it was one of the worst things I have ever seen. The son told the story about his father and how disturbed he was. The son still suffers from the abuse and traumatic things that he was exposed to .

    • @BassBeat66
      @BassBeat66 Місяць тому +3

I actually heard about Sexton before seeing the Evil Lives Here and OMG, that was a hard watch. Most of the episodes are hard watches, but the ones where you've heard a podcast or video about are tough cause you know about the case, but now you're hearing it from someone who was there.
Another one that was hard - not sure if Sommer's done it or not - is Theresa Knorr. She's the woman who had her sons basically help murder two of her daughters. Most documentaries about her have her youngest daughter, Terri, describe being there, but ELH talks to one of the sons who helped dispose of the body.
Like the Sexton one, seeing the realization of their actions and what they've done is fascinating, but also heartbreaking.

And, he needs to create more children that are completely under his control. Mae is eventually going to stop being fertile & how could others ever 'marry' into the family? Look at the outcome with poor Joel? Sickos get off on having a bunch of children that are vulnerable. Eventually they get big/old enough that they can fight back or move away. Need to keep the cycle going even if you are worried about getting caught. Plus, some get off on the getting caught thing - heightens the arousal I guess.

I still have questions about this story... I'm not sure if the info is available, but I want to know:
    A) what happened with the babysitter who was supposed to be burned with the kids but took them out for ice cream instead? Did she ever report anything? Did she quit? Get fired?
    B) what motivated them to ask the nieces to babysit? This family just doesn't seem like the type to ask anyone to babysit. With 12 kids, you have a built in babysitter, basically
    C) why was Willy arrested? He obviously only killed his brother in law under duress
    D) what happened when May saw her family again after 10 years? It was mentioned that she didn't see them for 10 years after she married Eddie

Trust me, I know how it feels to be accused of faking MS symptoms because I have the crazy, unpredictable disease and get accused of just being drunk all the time while I'm completely sober. I was almost arrested once because the cops thought I was drunk. The struggle is real.

I know. A man I knew was sent away from a restaurant because they thought he was drunk. He had MS and it was humiliating to him. How do you prove you are not drunk when you cannot walk straight and you're upset by the false accusation?

Doctors have to say you have MS and that you are disabled because of it. Doctors have to have MRI's of your brain and spine that proves your damage and a spinal tap to test for the proteins in the spinal fluid. Things must have been a lot easier at that time because I have been through it and you can't fake it now and that's for sure. @@melissacole1821

Just a correction...they actually lived in Jackson Township which is in Massillon, Ohio; not Jackson, Ohio. Jackson, Ohio is a completely different part of the state. I went to school with three of the Sexton kids (Michelle, Charles-"Skipper" and James.) I had no idea the horrors they were living through. I remember them as being extremely shy, pale and fragile looking. It was a very hard school district to attend if you weren't wealthy or at the very least upper-middle class and these kids were sadly ostracized for their appearance and lack of hygeine. Just a sad story in every way.

I was extremely abused when I was a kid.
I was beaten until I got brain damage.
I thought it was the same for everyone. Everyone got beaten and punched through the air yet I couldn't figure out why the kids at school acted so weird.
My mom abused me too yet many times it was very good.
But one day she was screaming at me and getting me to call myself stupid. "YOU'RE AN IDIOT RIGHT"?!!
    "yes, I'm an idiot".
    "YOU'RE STUPID RIGHT"?!!
    "yes I'm stupid".
she's totally changed and she cries that she treated me like that.
When I was 13, this may seem strange but i didn't know that i was abused. I figured it out because i heard about it on a talk show and wondered if I was abused and I started to cry.
The fellow peers of my school would act so weird like they were free. Like they had a voice equal to adults yet they were children. I had no idea why they acted that way.
I decided to hide it and to watch very closely and impersonate the other kids.
To this day I'm very unconnected, not disconnected but I was never connected. Families mean nothing good or bad when it comes to comparison or first hand knowledge. In other words if a safe family is described to me it means nothing in a comparison sense, good or bad, like if you tell a color blind person that orange is like a basketball or pumpkin it means nothing. It's impossible to explain to me about a safe family in a comparison sense.
Based on observations and current first hand observations I see that a family means not screaming and that it looks good.
I met someone who I want to marry. I love her and her family. I think she comes from a safe family, or she thinks that she came from a safe family and she acts very weird like the kids at school but in an adult way. It's really, really weird.
Hopefully we could get married soon. I want to be with her forever. I want to grow old with her. Veronica Azizi
She's in a very, very evil group and they don't put families first. They put money first. Hopefully she will see this and get out of that very evil group.
    Those are my true feelings.

I read that same book years ago and it stuck with me all these years (over 20 years 👵🏻)
I appreciate you retelling the story, there were details I had no idea about. I think I remember that one of the reasons why Eddie kept Joel around for Joel’s social security checks, which happens a lot in these stories of @buse. I remembered reading that one of the kids, a daughter, mentioned a sacrifice of a baby or fetus during one of the “ceremonies” but what muddied the waters was that there was SO MUCH @buse that some things were thought of as, maybe she made this up due to all her trauma, or maybe not- but that can’t be proven. 😡 Another infuriating part of this story is that Joel wanted a family and although he was mentally “behind” his intentions were nothing short of sweet, pure, and kindhearted. RIP to Joel and their sweet, innocent baby. 😢
This is one of the sickest stories I’ve ever read.
Also, I know I’m months behind, but there’s a story called “Flesh Collectors” by Fred Rosen. This happened not only my hometown, but to one of the victims who I went to with. One of her teachers was so distraught she took a over a week off. What’s also creepy is the my used an old abandoned school bus to draw out their plans and its still standing, covered in Kudzu. My cousin could have been a victim as one of the perpetrators was calling her during that time they were searching for a victim but my grandpa answered the phone and ran him off, possibly saving her life! 😮
I just found this channel and I LOVE it!

I used to get sent to school in shorts so everyone could see the rectangular shape bruises with central blood spots from the belt latch.
My father told me it was so others could see how I'm such a bod child, that he had to beat me to be good.
I'd already gotten three broken ribs at age 4, because I'd gone into the kitchen and asked my mother for a glass of water on a hot day.
Throughout my life my mother has tried ending my life many times, but she considerably incompetent at everything.
That's not me being nasty either. She's a diagnosed bipolar psychopath.
My father started using his fists from when I was 8.
I started weights at age 12, so one day I warned him that if he didn't stop, I'd end up punching him.
That day I broke his jaw and he stopped yelling at me for nearly 3 weeks.
I was sent to a children's home at one point and was particularly distressed when it was time to go home.
I'm currently in a FB group about survivors that were abused in that home, and people are still surprised that I didn't want to leave.
A brother and my father are Narcissists - diagnosed.
I'm high functioning autistic and the only normal one in the family, is my youngest brother.
After a bunch of crap happened in 2010, I disappeared and haven't seen any family since.
(Police have been notified that my disappearance is intentional)
I'm 54 now and those scars on my legs continue to remind me of those I escaped from.
At least the last 12.5 years have been peaceful.

There was a movie made years ago about this family of horrors, I remembered this very well. I always felt the mother was equally guilty as Eddie. That was so sick. DHS failed this family for many years that's why one of the daughters had a hard time to tell them everything, and that was true. The judge failed this family by given Eddie bail. This was preventable but no one was doing there jobs. The mother Mae was horrible considering she was'nt brought up that way. The mother @ least got a life sentence. It always amazes me how 2 people from completely different backgrounds end up together, and think alike. She was not brain washed she participated. She never tried to leave even when she could of she wanted to stay with him.I can't imagine what her family thought of her once this story saw the light and the whole country got to hear about it, and read about these henis crimes.

I really don’t want to victim blame, but I feel strongly that when you become a parent you have an absolute obligation to protect your child/-ren. Mae had a good family and started out with a good head on her shoulders. I wish she had gotten out the first time Eddie had been abusive to her, instead of having 12 children for him to traumatize for life. She definitely became an abuser too but it’s hard to completely condemn her for it all, she was so traumatized herself. Eddie shouldn’t even have been born, in my opinion. 🤷🏼‍♀️
