For anyone coming from Hakchi 2.30, the folder editing options is no longer under 'Settings' and is now moved to 'Structure', under the Settings tab.

Your video motivated me to finally flash my Super NES Classic to a few more missing SNES gems to the list.
I did mines over an old Windows 7 Desktop for the extra challenge, to those installing the driver for the first time like note Hakchi app is going to indicate that your Super NES classic is not responding and for you to restart. Check the driver installation status in your taskbar, in Windows 7 this takes at least 10 minutes to install and may even require a restart of your PC for it to finish loading the driver. One driver might fail that references Wifi, but it will be done when it's mostly green check marks and the taskbar icon of the USB plugged in device is no longer searching for driver.
Go back through the steps in this video to install the Hakchi soft and it should be able to communicate with your Super NES Classic.

Nice PP, this scene moved so quickly within the past 8 months. Glad to see new updated content, that's keeping up with the scene :D
I like these little byte sized hakchi2 CE "how to" videos. Sticks to one topic, clear and focused. Maybe you could do different byte sized videos, like one for; USB Hosting, Storing HMODs on USB, Installing Retroarch, Installing a PS1 game and BIOS, Understanding Mame, and which Roms and Romsets and installing a Mame game, Installing a other systems (a video for each), Installing and modding your Snes/Nes Mini :)

I have my SNES Classic modded and it runs fine. My navigation menu is a large directory system set up that helps me find what game I'm looking for. I first list all of the console manufacturers (Nintendo, Sega, etc..), then each of the specific consoles (Gameboy, gba, SNES, Etc..), then an alphabetical listing of all the games that are split into folders of no more than 28 titles each. A lot of people probably have their SNES Classic set up in this similar fashion, especially if they have several games like me and find it easy and useful. I wanted to share my SNES classic with my girlfriend, but she finds my directory system to find games, a pain in the ass and too complicated. She's only a casual gamer, but had previously figured out my modded Wii's menu, so I got her to make a list of her favorite 30 games that she wanted to play and then I would add extra copies of them in one single folder just for her. In a perfect world, I could just drag and drop another copy of one of my ROMS into her folder on hakchi, but it can't be done without hakchi "updating" and relocating my previous ROM file instead of treating it like a separate title. I'm quite new at this, so is it possible for a way to place the same ROM in two locations (Menu/Directory) as well as give a matching ROM/Title two different names? Example: I need to place the ROM titled: "Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo NES)" in her menu/folder while my exact ROM duplicate titled: "Super Mario Bros." sits in my "NES" folder without any of the two ever interfering with their menu locations as well as no conflicts with their title/name that's listed in both locations. It's a weird request and problem and I am somewhat sleep deprived. If anyone can help, it would be awesome. Sorry for the lack of legibility.

    • @PattonPlays
      @PattonPlays  5 років тому

I get what you're saying, I do not think it is possible to have the same game in two locations. It's something you can post in the suggestions channel here though discord.gg/96DKEdd

Hello Patton. First of all, thanks for all help and support to nes/SNES mini owners. I've just bought my SNES mini (European) and I'm starting to learn how to hack watching a several of videos. Your tutorial is the one more updated to this date, but I have 2 questions about the process. 1- Using the newest Hakchi CE is not necessary to dump the system kernel as backup? Because I couldn't find on hakchi an option to do that and in your tutorial you don't mention that when you're teaching how to hack. Everyone else tells to do that as first thing. 2- I also saw in other tutorials to turn off your SNES mini at the moment you've installed the custom kernel, and reconnect and put o "developer mode" when you're installing retroarch and also do the same thing when synchronize games at the end. In your tutorial you just connect one single time and keep going doing all process without disconnecting/reconnecting. Thank you so much for your help!

Money tip - Use the cable that came with your mini, not an extra one you have lying around. Run Hakchi as Admin, which is right click and Run As Administrator. My first attempt failed, but I had no indication of a fail, and when I plugged in the SNES mini to the TV there we NO games on it. I synced again after flashing the custom kernel and all the original games plus the ones I added were there. Good vid, but I'd like to have it broken down with a specific one for each system.

Yeah from what I've heard the app is out of date and will no longer be supported :/. It's really unfortunate because I thought that was an incredibly easy way to get things going. I think because of the mod store and having everything available right away they thought that the easy installer method was obsolete.

I really enjoy the fact that this is even possible. However, there should be a very strong warning regarding FDS(Famicom Disk System) players. It's probably way way easier for you to just buy a Famicom and disk system than trying it with retroarch and the snes/nes classic. You will constantly run into problem after problem after problem with it. Some of the problems are from Nintendo themselves. Some of the problems are from hackchi2 and or retroarch.
I recently decided to go the hack route since Nintendo hasn't bothered giving us the ability to add games to either classic version. One of my biggest desires was to be able to play Famicom disk system games like Zelda, Zelda 2, doki doki panic etc. Basically original versions of games. Which I've never played. However, by the time I got hackchi, retroarch...there were already a plethora of problems. First off none of the games would work with retroarch because of a missing bios file....which was recent. Originally, I understood that you could play these games because the bios file was already within retroarch. That is no longer the case.
So I spent at least two days trying to find this one random bios file for FDS and found it on an older youtube video, oddly enough but the name of the file was all in uppercase. I then learned after using that file that the name of the file must be all in lowercase...not to mention the previous attempt of finding this bios file before the older youtube video which never worked at all. This one however did, once I changed the name, it worked.
Then came the current plethora of problems, which I've spent days trying to figure out. I will note all of the bottom stuff began after I got the right bios file to work.
Zelda no densetsu - The hyrule fantasy...basically the original FDS version of The legend of Zelda on the NES. It loads the game. Once it loads I ran into a huge obstacle of which I haven't figured out yet....the controller for the SNES classic will not work. Even if you go into custom hotkeys and map them on retroarch. I have tried several different roms of this same game and ALL of them to have the same issue.
Link no Bouken....basically Zelda II on the NES. This one not only would load but plays great!!! There's only one problem. There are no overworld items. Heart containers, Magic containers, statues...which you need to advance to the next overworld area etc. The items in the dungeons are there! Controller works great on this one. I tried multiple versions of this game as well...Version 1.0 and 1.1 and both have this same error...likely due to both emulators on retroarch.
Doki Doki Panic - Again controller will not work...even if custom mapped.
These are the only three I've tried and I can only imagine other games being even more of a nightmare. The goal simply is to play these games in their original format. Nintendo will not give me that ability and even after trying to get this ability it was a failure. Do not bother looking through google either...the information you find will be scant at best.
Do not bother with FDS on SNES or NES classic unless you are a master programmer or computer wiz. In fact...do not even bother with FDS on PC because you will have the same results! If anyone reading this all the way to this point is awesomesauce at this crap and can find it in their heart to help this one random person who is dying to play Zelda 1 and 2 for FDS on the SNES classic and make a thorough video detailing everything you need to do to get this stuff working...I would absolutely be eternally grateful!

@@PattonPlays I figured out most of it. Most roms online for Zelda 2 are not complete. I found a patch for it that fixes the things missing and now it plays great. Zelda 1 and doki doki panic also had patches. Hackchi2 does not recognize that there are patches for these games. Once I did those....they work great. Sincerely, thank you for offering to help. The only game that seemed to work fine from the start was Metroid...I had no problems with that game at all. Your tutorials are extremely helpful when first adding games. I do have a question though...after I have added games and want to add more later do I still have to flash the system? Do I uncheck all of the games currently on the system other than the new ones? Thanks a bunch!

I have a question, ok so recently I got the NES(I've had the SNES and hacked that using the older hakchi, now that older one application from months ago still has all my SNES, GBA and NES games I added to that when I dl from roms online) If I want to add or delete games from my SNES that's already hacked, do I use that same version(the older) or the newer? Is there a way I can add the newer ones options to the SNES without accidentally deleting or messing up my original SNES hacks? Such as me wanting to add the down+ select update to reset instead of getting up or adding games, removing etc
I haven't hacked my NES yet, but was curious if I can just do that without worrying about the older one. I'll check out some more of your updated classic hacking vids.

    Hey yo!
    Thanks for the tutorial!
I totally suck at these things but I thought I'd give it a try. My son (9) is wicked into these games. And I grew up playing them so this is awesome!!!!!
There are a few things that I can't figure out and that i haven't been able to get working. I'll try to write in an understandable way.. :)
    I'm using Hakchi CE v3.5.3
My snes is connected... the light is green. And I click on add games. I add a rom that I got to it. (I have been trying to do actraiser .. i loved that game as a kid) I see it in added games part above the factory game list. I add cover art for fun and then synch it. Then go to file, exit and unplug snes. The game shows up on my TV in the list. But it doesn't play the game. I added those modules you recommended. It was a bit different finding it from the video. But I got them. The game still won't play. When I select it the TV screen turns black like it's loading then it returns to the selection screen.
In Hakchi i seperated the games by core and I see it is a DOSBox.. maybe I need another mod or another rom..? Yeah.. I just don't know stuff so I thought I'd ask the Gods of knowledge. :)
Oh yeah.. this maybe wicked basic but .. When I go back to connect my snes to my computer do need to go to kernel-install/repair then do the recovery mode every time I connect?
Then the last thing.. sorry.. . :) .. I have only added one game at a time so far. When I reconnect I see the game I had tried to install listed on the screen. But when I add another game it replaces the old one with the new one.. ..there is something simple I'm totally missing.
If you read this... thanks! If you didn't read this thanks as well.. this video is great and your helping out a lot of people!!
Oh yeah, and would no_intro roms work better... saw that somewhere.. but it was in the early hours of last night when I trying to set this up.. :)
    Dude, thanks and ... thanks!!!!
    Human Jeff

If I remember correctly Actraiser was one of the games you need to run with retroarch and a snes core. In the kmfd mod hub you should see a retroarch extreme, and snes9x2010. I recommend using those to try it out first. Make sure the command line is correct then sync. You only have to install the kernel once, any time after is just syncing the games. I'm not sure about the replacement thing, if you added box art check somewhere else in the list to see if the game moved to another section. It should still be there.

You'll just have to redo some steps by really it's just a matter of flashing your system back to stock. Downloading this version of Hakchi, then following the guide.

I keep getting the "system taking to long to reboot" message. I tried manually creating the driver but that did nothing. If I try to install the driver before the kernel (step 5 which they really should have just allowed you to do as an initial separate step) my computer recognises the SNES but it can't create the driver because the kernel is uploading. I've got a Mac and I'm using VB to try and get this done but nothing's working.

I'm using one of the recently re-released NES Classics and have zero problems adding and playing more NES ROMs. I can't, however, get any of the SNES games to work. I am using hakchi2 CE v1.2.5 and went through your tutorial precisely - even changed the command line to snes9x after installing the RetroArch and SNES9x modules. Everything synchronizes without an error, but when I start the console, none of the SNES games show up, but all of the added NES games do. Any ideas? Is there a setting I'm forgetting to change? Thanks!

    • @DJKav

Megadrive games are easy. You need to install Retroarch HMOD, then the Megadrive core (Genesis Plus GX) HMOD. Now you can just add the Megadrive roms. Hakchi should sort out the command line for you.
OutRun is a little more involved if it's through Mame. There is now a standalone version of OutRun on Hakchi. It runs on the 'Cannonball' engine, and uses the original arcade rom files.

Hi I just modded my snes mini, and it works perfectly. The only thing I noticed was that when mario comes in from the meny to auto play the games, the screen just freezes for 2 seconds before it cancels the in game auto play. This is just with the games I've downloaded. Doesn't really matter though but Iwas wondering if this is because I did something wrong, or if it's because the computer itself has not played them before, therefore no auto play to feature.

I need help. I installed everything on my snes classic with retro arc. Everything was working fine. Then my friend wanted me to do it to his snes. I plugged his into the same computer and used the same program for his and everything worked fine on his snes. I then decided to add 1 game to mine so I plugged it in the same pc and did everything normally. Now when i turn on my snes classic nothing happens, it just goes to a black screen and then won't turn off when i hit the switch. I have to manually unplug the power cable from the back. I tried uninstalling retro arc and going back to original kernel and then flashing the custom one back on and it didn't work. I heard somewhere that I have to maintain 2 different installation folders but I have no idea how to do this. Is my system bricked now? Anything at this point would help
