About breaking the system... I was set on the task of modding my friend's NES Classic, the 2018 re-release. I used the the original Hakchi2, which I used on my own NES Classic (the 2016 release)... BIG MISTAKE. It worked fine on my NES, but it broke my friend's. I couldn't get it to work even if I installed the original kernel. It was BRICKED... or so I thought. Then I read online that the second release of NES Classic came with a few structural changes, and that Hakchi CE would fix it. Said and done... I installed Hakchi CE and hooked up my friend's dead NES Classic. I didn't even have to do anything. It detected what was wrong immediately, and ran the repair. The NES Classic worked again, as if never broken at all. I love the guys at Shinkansen.
Hi Patton Plays thanks for making this video. After ruling out any possible usb cable/driver/av/firewall issues etc. I was still having a hard time getting the mini to flash successfully on v3.8.0. After disconnecting from the internet it worked like a charm. Once flash is done you can then reconnect to the net and scrape box art. Just wanted to mention this for anyone to try that is having issues as well. Cheers and hope it helps!

When watching your how to add sega cd games I got stuck and couldn't find the libretro file and didn't know I had to install retroarch first. Other than that it was a piece of cake just as you showed. Thank you.
1 issue i was having with hakchi was that it would also say that it was taking too long. so i turned off the mini, disconnected the cable, and closed hackchi completely. then i restarted the program again, plugged it back in and followed your steps again and it worked. sometimes a simple, on/off try again approach is applicable.

Thanks for all the information -- I've been very happy with what I've been able to do with the Sega Mini through Hakchi. Instead of paying somebody 30 or 40 bux to send me a stick full of 7 or 8 hundred games, many of which will not work with the emulator designed for the system, I'm able to curate a more user-friendly collection (a sandisk cruzer 32Gb drive will hold around 250 games which to me, is enough). Hey Patton been watching your vids for awhile now since the release of the snes mini. Just subscribe! Im still modifying my snes. Glad you are updating vids! Huge help!!
Three things: 1-I don't think it is difficult to figure out but your update videos take the approach that you are using a new system, not updating an already hacked system. With the new info feature, I'm curious if it will just update what it already there. 2-If compatibility of the default genesis core was improved, how's the TMNT Hyper Stone Heist? 3-Can you have one install of Hakchi manage multiple minis? I never tried. I've spent to much time getting them how I want to screw them up. Currently, I have three separate copies, one for the NES, SNES and Genesis.
Been using this the past couple days, I really enjoy it outside of ☝️ glaring issue I’ve been having. Idk if using the gbc filters changed something, but all my gb & gbc files are mixed up now in hakchi. Is there any way to turn off the setting that launches all games in Genesis Plus GX if you hit the Start button to launch them?
Hi. I found that it isn't necessary to do the power+reset thing when installing the custom kernel with Hakchi 3.8. I was able to install the custom kernel while the SNESC was powered-off. It just did it automatically when I clicked on Yes to installing the custom kernel with my SNESC powered-off but connected to the USB cable. And after it finished installing, the SNESC main menu and music loaded, despite that the power switch was still set to Off. To turn off the SNESC after that, I had to move the power switch to the On position, and then to the Off position again.

I have a Q. Let's say I have HCE 3.8.0 installed and all my smaller roms exported to USB. I watch your video on adding PSX games and it was a lot of work my hat is off to you. COULD I JUST copy my PSX bin and cue files to the USB and find them in Retroarch? OR do they REQUIRE that I export them with HCE 3.8.0 for Retroarch to see them?
The last update (3.7?) removed a bunch of cores from the retroarch store....luckily i had a backup of the old one on my external drive (and could till get said cores)....won't be updating, i've learned my lesson (also, the old one worked just fine...these new features don't change much, unless you're really picky with your menus). I say the say thing with say youtube or facebook....why keep 'fixing' things when they're not broke (ESPECIALLY when the older version was better)?
Is everyone having the experience where the game description doesnt fill the description box on the genesis mini correctly? I'm noticing the description is all on one line, and it displays about 7 words and the rest isn't visible on screen.
Hey Patton! Have you tried the Scummvm core on sega mini? To play the classic Lucasarts games, Monkey Islands and Day of the Tentacle A guide for it would be awesome! Hey pat nice work. Can you help me on this one? I'll be unboxing my new snes and nes soon. In your older videos (and hakchi versions) you showed us that we need to flash the custon kernel. I never used hakchi before, downloaded version 3.8.0 but when I plug my NES classic (first release), nothing happens. It stays "waiting for your mini". I tried with 4 different USB cables, makes no difference.
I have a console that supports the formats: gba, gbc and nes but when connecting to a computer it does not detect. How to change the game format, e.g. N64 to nes Classic without connecting the nes console? I need to know!

Update: I ended up reinstalling hackchi on my system, and the issue is resolved now. Everything displays as it should
Hakchi 3.8 won't let me flash the kernal and Shows the following error.... How do I fix this problem.

There is a link in the description where you can get help.
I tried that, nothing seems to work. And I have the real version not the knock off so I'm not understanding why it won't flash the kernel
On the Sega Genesis Mini how do you go back to the main menu without retroarch? Are you able to make this system show widescreen?
Do you know If the original nes classic kernel gets put into the dump folder if you want to go back to unmodded.
Hey Patton!
Have you tried the Scummvm core on sega mini?
To play the classic Lucasarts games, Monkey Islands and Day of the Tentacle
A guide for it would be awesome!
I tried following the kmfdmanics guide but no luck. Black screen and back to menu for some reason.
Thanks for all these videos!
Edit: got it working. Loaded the scummvm core and then manually opened the games 👍
Had mine exactly as i wanted then got a message that says.." this modded system is not for re-sale..you was scammed" ..obviously not nint€ndo, All my snes games now have a C7. Error when i try to start a game even tho they ran perfectly before, any fix for this?
Can you get rid of the original games? And when adding new games do they have to be zip file?
Awesome!!... where does everyone go to back up all the SNES games they have? ;)
Does this update make it to where more games work the m2engage emulator ? I have about 200 games on my mini and have issues previously.
You'd have to ask the devs, I don't remember seeing anything new in terms of M2E compatibility.
@@PattonPlays Okay thank you!
You know how to explain very well. Thanks for this tutorial! I received yesterday my Genesis Mini and want to hack it. This tutorial is the one I am going to follow.
Question sir. I haven't found info on playing super famicom on snes classic. Would i just need to add the snes9x for the core?!
Hey pat nice work. Can you help me on this one? I'll be unboxing my new snes and nes soon. In your older videos (and hakchi versions) you showed us that we need to flash the custon kernel. Do we still need to do that and if yes does this procedure erase all factory games that comes with nes/snes? Remember the consoles are new. Thanx
I never used hakchi before, downloaded version 3.8.0 but when I plug my NES classic (first release), nothing happens. It stays "waiting for your mini". I tried with 4 different USB cables, makes no difference.
Where do you get the proper Roms? The ones I've downloaded don't work. If you have a link, please share
Thank you so much it worked!
Do the NES roms have to be in .zip file type for the NES classic?
I have a console that supports the formats: gba, gbc and nes but when connecting to a computer it does not detect. How to change the game format, e.g. N64 to nes Classic without connecting the nes console? I need to know!
transferring games from nes classic to a snes classic is it possible?
Its a long shot but i was wondering if there is a certain way to use the WII controller on the Snes i just got it today from amazon its a pro controller but everytime i try and use it even in the main menu its lacky and just doesnt have the right input anyway i can fix this? Would be greatly appreciated if i can get a reply from you or anyone who can help me
I use Usb storage for my SNES and megadrive mini with Hakchi. Meta datas a big update so how best to get updated? Should I just plug the USB into pc and sync games for meta data update also hope it doesn't change my pal covers 😬
God damn thanks for this
Im not sure that anyone will see this, but does anyone else get an error message after modding their snes classic? sega, nes and snes games all play fine on the system, but a little error message pops up before each game. error 4 or somthing, then when you shut the console off it says error 8. Should I reset the system and set it back to normal then reinstall the games and retroarch?
tyia
HELP PLEASE!!! I Tried to Delete Hackchi from my Genesis After Deleting the Games I Added but it WON'T WORK! It my mini took too long yet all me antivirusrs, vpns, & firewall are turned off! How Do I Deltet? PLEASE HELP!!!! The Official Reddit & Discord didn't have any help that worked!
Rocket Knight Adventures, Sparkster and Frogger now work with m2engage.
Don't bother with M2Engage. Bad audio lag. Might as well just go with Genesis Plus GX, which solves that whole issue.
DO you know if local companies can do this to a NES for me?
Hey, Patton Plays if you see this I just wanted to ask what recovery state means because it keeps saying that on my NES classic. When I tried to reboot it, it didn't do anything. I just wanted to know how to fix issue😅
Hi. Do you know how to add games like return of the joker that use a different mapper
If i split the games by console, are the stock games also mixed with the added games?
I went back to version 3.7. After updating, I noticed that the image on the Sega Genesis Mini is blurred with the CRT filter just like the original UI. In 3.7 even using scanlines, the image is very vivid. Is there any way to resolve this in this new update? I want to use the m2 emulator with more image quality ...
