My wife and both had Honda Shadows a few years ago, and rode them on trips that were around 800 miles round trip twice with no problems at all! They are great bikes!
I still ride a 2000 Shadow 750 ACE, it would ride it anywhere anytime. Stone axe reliable doesn't even cover how reliable these bikes are. Is it fast? No. Is it comfortable? Yes, with upgraded suspension and easy bar changes and an upgraded seat, you can really put miles on these bikes, for a long LONG time.
I feel the same way. The shaft drive means minimal service intervals and with such a low output + low compression engine, it's nearly impossible to strain it. It handles the open roadways with minimal complaints and does it comfortably. Thanks for watching and ride safe on your 750 ACE! 😎
Wish it was a 1000cc shaft drive. Would fit in where indians scout 60 isnt made anymore. To me 750 is fine for around town but if i want to dp the 3 hour run each way to albuquerque its nice to have a bike that likes to run on tbe interstate like my old kawasaki 1600. Indian scout 1200 is a better interstate bike but 1000 would be better than 750 bro. To me what i like aboht the bike is the shaft drive and its cruiser genre lends to bigger gas tanks. But i wish it was bigger than a 750 imma be honest. 900cc is small for a cruiser to me. 1200 is like a good spot. 1500 1600, are good getting big though. 2000cc like the kawasaki vulcan 2000 are too big imo. Incredible cross countey but for day to day parkingtlot at the grocery its a big bike becomes a burden
Also had a 2000 Shadow 750 ACE and rode it for 22 years before getting an Aero. Never had any major issue with it. Rock solid. I like that the Aero has shaft vs. chain. Rear wheel is always nice and clean now.
owned a shadow for 12 years was verry satisfied with it. Sold it 2 weeks ago for more money than i bought it for and bought a husqvarna and now my neck, back and ass hurt. So i may buy the new shadow soon but the aero version, i wish i could have it in different colours tho
Every time I see on of these types of cruisers, I’m glad I still have my 1994 Honda 750 Magna. 53,000+ smiles on her clock and she weighs in at around 540 pounds and gets approximately 48-53 mpg and is damn fast! It’s a great bike and if you can find one you can get a good one for under $3,500.00. The only maintenance item I’ve replaced on this bike is the voltage regulator. Excluding fluids and filters and tires. The Michelin Commander II tires really make this bike come alive e as well with great wear mileage. Y other bike is its big brother the CTX1300A and is much better suited for long rides. The Shadow is also a great bike if you’re looking for something comfortable and easy to ride and you are. To a speed acceleration junkie like me.
It sounds great with the stock exhaust, and it sounds phenomenal with the right aftermarket pipes. Mine has the Vance & Haynes Short Shots (see 4:10 in the video), and it's beastly.
I'm closing in on my 40s, but have dreamt of riding since a kid, hadn't thought about it much throughout my teens and twenties, until a flyer with the (then) new Kawasaki Vulcan S and immediately fell back in love with the metal-horses. I'm not looking for something super fast, just looking for something to cruise the commute to work or do simple rides, doing some sight-seeing with and it was a neck-on-neck race between a Shadow Phantom and Vulcan S for me for a while, right up to the 2024 Shadow; that's a beauty! Thanks for this amazing review! Unfortunately the Phantoms are pretty hard to come by here in Europe, but who knows, if the missus gives me a chance, I'll do my very best to get me one of those!
It doesn't matter when you start riding, it just matters that you start. At one point, we were all new to it. Vulcan S is a more powerful and nimble machine, but if your goal is simple riding and sight-seeing like you've mentioned, the Shadow will keep you happy - bonus points since you like the style too! Glad you enjoyed the review. Thanks for watching. Ride safe. Cheers!
I ride a 2015 Honda Shadow Aero and a 2023 Harley Davidson Heritage Classic. I usually switch off ride the Honda one day and the HD the next. Their both great bikes but provide me with a different kind of ride. Some days I prefer the easy going laid back ride of the Shadow and other days I prefer the torque and maneuverability of the Heritage. Best of both worlds.
It's nice having 2 horses in the stable to bounce back and forth between. It sounds like you know yourself and your machines very well to get the most out of them. Thanks for watching! Ride safe.
If you're really in love with the look of the 2024 Shadow Phantom, go for it, it's an amazing bike. Otherwise, seriously consider a used Phantom or Aero. Yes, this year they added a rear disc brake, which is nice, but honestly you don't need it. The ancient rear drum brakes on the older models works just fine. As a very happy rider of a 2004 Shadow, I'm finding it impossible to justify the extra $5,000+ it would cost me to swap my bike for a new one. I wouldn't mind the upgrade to fuel injection, but I'm having zero problems with the carbs. If properly maintained, a Shadow 750 is immortal.
OMG Omni dude! I can't get that hole out of my head! When you've seen it, it can't be unseen! You're damn funny Champ! Big St Charles store is massive! We definitely don't have anything that massive! We've just got great roads😉
I've got a 2009 Honda Shadow Aero, and I ride the wheels off of that bike. I never had to do anything to it but put gas in it and roll. It never breaks down, and it averages around 50 to 53 Mi to the gallon. I've had 90 on the interstate many times Indiana go faster than that. The only reason I slow my roll is because I don't have a windshield, and I'm fairly wide. I've never pushed mine to 100 mph but I'm sure it'll do it. 75 is plenty fast enough. You can't beat it for reliability, and fuel economy. I wouldn't mind having a little better suspension. If you don't see a big bump coming or a pothole you going to be hurting but I've never had a cruiser that Bidwell on bumpy Terrain.
It just does everything good, but that's the thing with Hondas. They will almost never do anything undesirable. They may not be the most exciting brand out there, but they just build good bikes - bar none. Thanks for watching! Ride safe. 😎
@Omni_Moto I almost hit 100 mph going down the interstate yesterday. Almost. Like 93 or 95. My speedometer said I was doing a hundred but the GPS said about 95. She was Tapped Out! I got passed by a Suburban. I didn't have nothing else. Lol
My friend recently picked up a 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 about a month or two ago. He bought it from his supervisor at work. It belonged to his fiancés father who passed away, so it was well taken care of. After riding around with him for most of the day about three weeks or so ago I went looking at all of the Indian bikes to see what they had. So far the Sport Chief interests me the most out of all of the bikes. Doubt I'll ever own a Harley since I'm not a big fan of them. I also looked at the other Vulcans and Honda cruisers but they didn't really jump out at me. I checked out Yamaha as well but they don't seem to offer a v-twin anymore it seems. The only other bike that caught my eye was the Suzuki Boulevard M109 but it also seems to have the same problem as the Honda. The instrument panel is a bit outdated and the tach is a bit hard to see in certain lighting conditions. Other than that anyone who has them loves them and usually never gets rid of them. :)
I rode around on a 2008 kawasaki vulcan 1600 and a 2008 kawasaki vulcan 2000 at the same time. Both in the garage at the same time it was an interesting comparison
@@TheAnnoyingBoss Which of the two did you prefer the most? I know some liked the smaller bike over the bigger one and vice versa. My friend's had his Vulcan 2000 since the beginning of summer and loves it a lot. He likes how the power is there when it's needed but isn't in-your-face at all times. That's what I'm looking for. Something that doesn't need to be rung out at all times. So far the only bikes that have my eye are the Moto Guzzi V7 Stone & V100 Mandello, the Triumph Bonneville T120 and the Indian Sport Chief. I'm aiming for something different that aren't commonly seen so one of those bikes are my goal. The only Japanese cruiser that's of interest to me is the Suzuki Boulevard M109 BOSS. Harley is absolutely out of the question. I don't want anything to do with them.
I started on a Shadow 750. It's exactly what you describe. Just too small for me, so I went up to a Shadow 1100. The Phantom is starting to price itself out of the game. A Vulkan S is less money and is much, much quicker. If you want a bike with zero surprises and crazy dependability then this is good.
Shadow 750 doesn't overpromise anything and I think that's why it's done so well. It does what it needs to do while looking the part, but yes, price is a bit concerning given other market offerings. Thanks for watching! Ride safe.
I have a 21 rebel1100 and I kinda wish it had some of the Shadow's DNA. The seat and exhaust on the shadow are miles beyond what the stock rebel has. Then again I still argue the rebel is supposed to be more of a naked metric sport cruiser and the Shadow is more of a traditional cruiser.
For sure! The Rebel is much more neo-retro styled using some styling cues from the bikes of yesteryear but maintaining modern touches to keep the new age buyers attracted and interested. The Shadow line is much more classical, especially the Aero package with it's large swooping fenders and chrome finish. Thanks for watching! Ride safe. 😎
My first bike was this terrible 1983 honda cx650 custom i got in 2016 for free with 15k miles on it and it was great but the greatest thing to me was the glass headlight lense and the shaft drive because it just made the bike not age like a plastic junker and i could actually ride without adjusting or scrubbing a chain. I like how they updated to disc rear brake. Will make maintinance easier i haye drum brakes. Disc brakes way eaiser to service.
My 21 softail slim has a reserve mode. The gas light will come on. Then the gauge will be empty but it will show 33miles to e, then it says reserve around 20 miles to e.
My mountain bike (a bicycle) came with the same kind of handlebars. You're taller than average. Sitting upright, your arms are fully extended (no elbow bend). What happened, Honda?
I'm will be a new ride and planning buy a Harley. But Shadow catch my eyes and the price too. Every people I know and have a Shadow they always tell me its one of the good option long life bike
What I dislike about the shadow 750 is the extremely small gas tank. I have a Honda VFR 800 with a 5 gallon gas tank and none of the cruisers that are marketed now come anywhere close to having a 5 gallon fuel tank
I am a Missouri boy. At Big St Charles Motorsports they will have some for next riding season in Spring! Make sure you check them out when the time comes. Thanks for watching and ride safe! 😎
The vulcans are dead though. The 650 one is a joke to me and the voyager is like a top of the line. There is a gap between the 900 and voyager ans they used to have vulcans that fit in there
What do you think abput the w800? Thats one im looking at. The bevel gear is cool i just wish it was also a shaft drive at the same time. A fully gear driven unit would be so reliable 😂
@@TheAnnoyingBoss I've clocked over 60k km on it and I still enjoy the shit out of it. Comfy, slow bike fast and pretty to look at. And it's the only vehicle I own that hasn't left me stranded even once. Can't think of a more glowing review than that.
It wasn't something that jumped out to me while riding it, but it was present. Because of its V-Twin nature, there will be some vibration no matter what. It is tolerable but can have varying degrees from rider to rider. Gloves, grips, and bar style can all make tremendous differences in how much vibration you experience on any bike. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.
I think any generation of the Shadow 750 is a worthy contender for someone's first motorcycle. The 1100 adds more power without adding too much additional weight, so if you are confident in yourself to handle the weight of the 750 you could step into the 1100 as a first bike. The decision is ultimately yours and you should buy the one you feel most confident about. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 😎
The 1100's have hydraulic valves that don't need adjusted. The chain drive 750's have dual carbs and kinda suck to remove to clean. The shaft drive 750's have a single carb setup and are a little easier to remove for cleaning. The dual carbs on the 1100's are also easier to remove then the chain drive 750's. All great bikes and I own all three so if you have any questions feel free to ask.
I see lots of lightly used under5k miles Indian Scouts under 9k making 100HP with 72T.Why would anyone pay 10k with dealer fees 12k for a bike making moped power is besides me.
Put 100000 miles on a1998 shadow ace, loved that bike.little slow gas tank wasn't big enough, think it was 4.3 gallon tank. So the new one even smaller tank, bring back VT 1300 don't like any of the honda cruisers being built today.
Sturdy, fast enough, totally reliable. Yeah just terrible. Seriously this thing will go fast enough to get you on the hiway when needed and do it forever. Its a really strong motorcycle. Undertuning a machine is not necessarily bad, these things are anvil reliable. I like the looks and it’s comfortable. I’ve been riding motorcycles for over 50 years and would definitely be ok to get one of these if I were in the market for a new bike. I have plenty of machinery for now though. The lack of techno controllers is a huge virtue on this bike. A tuner might find 10 more horses after a few years, but honestly 40 hp will do what you need if that doesn’t include racing or a few other things. Its fine. Just don’t look at the spec sheet, the bike rides fine and looks great from the riders seat.
You hit the nail on the head! It's a reliable machine with amazing capability. It doesn't overpromise and has plenty of power to go about everyday tasks with relative ease. Thanks for watching! Ride safe. 😎
I had a hunch the fuel-light was the "reserve" Honda mentions. Seems a bit silly to go through all the trouble to update the bike only to still be lacking simple items like a tachometers and fuel-gauge. A little disappointing to see from a company like Honda.
Had a 2012 750 for alittle while. Nice bike for what it was. But too slow. Power ran out at about 85mph. Good enough, but no passing power for "oh sh*t!" moments.
This is the only downfall of the Shadow 750. The top-end power isn't there, but as long as you are being a wise rider and not putting yourself in situations where more power is needed, you'll be a-okay! Thanks for watching and ride safe. 😎
I personally prefer the Phantom appearance package, but the Aero does have classical/heritage styling that I can also appreciate. The Aero is cheaper, but it has the old control boxes - they are effective and function just the same though. For someone who is indifferent for looks, the Aero trim is a rock solid choice. Thanks for watching!
Whoa, those are some tight jeans; on certain "occasions" we can probably tell what religion you are. That being said, looks like once money is available, it'll be the Shadow for me. Cool.
Something is wrong with that shadow 750 it should do a little better than that...$10,000 and if it is like that they are ripping people off... come on Honda...
For $8,399 starting MSRP for the Phantom trim shown in the video, I feel the Shadow should come with a few more features on it to make it worth the asking price. It's not bad, but it isn't great. Thank you for watching and ride safe. 😎
I did some calculations, was this a better deal in 2003 when it was around $6000? You might think yes. But if you factor in inflation, a dollar in 2003 is about $1.71 in 2024. That means a 2003 shadow 750 cost over $10,000 of today's dollar in 2003. So with everything increasing in costs, this bike really haven't risen much in true cost.
My wife and both had Honda Shadows a few years ago, and rode them on trips that were around 800 miles round trip twice with no problems at all! They are great bikes!
As the owner of one exactly like this I would have to agree with you on just about everything you have said. Most honest review I've seen.

Can't think of a more glowing review than that.
It's a good looking cruiser. How were handlebar vibes at highway speed?
It wasn't something that jumped out to me while riding it, but it was present. Because of its V-Twin nature, there will be some vibration no matter what. It is tolerable but can have varying degrees from rider to rider. Gloves, grips, and bar style can all make tremendous differences in how much vibration you experience on any bike. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.
Would you recommend the early 2000s-2010s 750 for a first bike? Or the 1100?
All great bikes and I own all three so if you have any questions feel free to ask.
did honda stop making those bikes, because I literally can't see it on honda's website
Nope! Here's a link. powersports.honda.com/motorcycle/cruiser/shadow-phantom
They need to never stop sellin these shaft drives
kkkkkkk keep it up dude!
wwwwwww will do! Thanks for watching and ride safe. 😎
I see lots of lightly used under5k miles Indian Scouts under 9k making 100HP with 72T.Why would anyone pay 10k with dealer fees 12k for a bike making moped power is besides me.
Bro, your pant hahaha! Maybe happen when you make the jump. that things it's normal. Keep real likes always
Love this bike... that is not available in Europe
Is that a spanner in your pocket or are you just a well pocket full chap?😉
Bring back the VTX1800
preach
Put 100000 miles on a1998 shadow ace, loved that bike.little slow gas tank wasn't big enough, think it was 4.3 gallon tank. So the new one even smaller tank, bring back VT 1300 don't like any of the honda cruisers being built today.
is it automatic?
Negative.
A 'jobby' would be the right word. A hobby that gets you some cash is a 'jobby'
I like this. I will start using this. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 😎
Ride safe. 😎
I own and ride a Shadow Spirit. My rule is no chrome, no buy. At least this model has some color on it. It looks cheap.
The lack of a fuel gauge means a fuel light is necessary to remind you to fill up. Personally, after owning a Shadow, I'd rather just a fuel gauge
Using the trip odometer to let you know when it's time to gas up gets the job done just fine. #oldschool
The Suzuki C50 Boulevard from 2009 and newer has a fuel gauge and gear indicator.
I had a hunch the fuel-light was the "reserve" Honda mentions. Seems a bit silly to go through all the trouble to update the bike only to still be lacking simple items like a tachometers and fuel-gauge. A little disappointing to see from a company like Honda.
@@edwardkeeter762 yeah, this was pretty much how I got by.
It does have a fuel light which is similar to the petcock reserve
@@dustinleonsky4513 I like that Suzuki gave their alloy wheels too - spokes and inner tubes made me nervous.
The fortnite music 😂
It's copyright free and pretty catchy. 😃 Thanks for watching and ride safe!
@Omni_Moto man, I wish I could ride. Got everything but a bike atm. Thank you, though.
Keep both hands on the handlebar
I can ride my bike with no handlebars 🎶
The Aero looks much better than the Phantom, and it's cheaper, too.
Triumph speed 400 or royal Enfield guerrilla is better in terms of price point and technology
I think its over priced. You can get pretty much the same riding experience out of the oldsr models but for around $2500.
totally agree
Whoa, those are some tight jeans; on certain "occasions" we can probably tell what religion you are. That being said, looks like once money is available, it'll be the Shadow for me. Cool.
Nope I own a Honda shadow spirit 750 from 2010 with disks brakes front and rear soo but that could be caused doo too my bike a special edition maybe
Why oh why Omniman does Honda make good motorcycles but not great? It reminds me of their cars... meh. A decent effective cardigan.
_Good, but not great. Honda Motorcycles_
That sounds like an honest marketing strategy for Honda. 😆
@@conceptcs It's important to always consider inflation when looking at models through the years! Great comment and analysis. 👍
