Should Gears of War E-Day Return to Form?

- Gears of War E-Day is big news, it's a chance to turn back the clock and give Gears the chance to shine again. Pushing aside the Gears of War 6 plotline for instead a prequel has plenty of potential considering this is going back to the start of the Locust war, a period we have rarely seen. The change of tone back to a darker side is great news and only the beginning.

What gets me, is the way they really spoke to fans in this trailer.
The terrifying 'Nightmare' that is the Locust.
The bond of Marcus and Dom, especially the way his reveal had the notes from Mad World.
Though the icing on the cake, and something I don't see alot of people talking about is the title.
It's not like the last game, 'Gears 5'.
It's 'Gears of War' again. We're back to Gears of War, not Gears. I believe this is a sign that The Coalition is hopefully, taking the steps in the right direction for their fans.
This trailer alone just tells me "Yes, we're back."
And back we are, it just had to be so over first.
If the Coalition want E-Day to make it, they need to do a few things.
1. Bring back horror elements. Gears 1 was eerie and scary during the night chapters. It was tense and you always felt like you were being watched.
2. Make it feel like the first three. The original trilogy had a set list of how gameplay went. How the weapons were and how the story was.
3. Bring back the edge. Gears stories have a dark and oppressive tone about them. Shocking plot twists and emotional moments bring impact.
So my suggestions for TC are simple. Gameplay mechanics should feel almost how they did with 1-3. Also, the story cannot stray from the lore. If it does, it will compromise the entire story.
Sadly, characters will have to die for that to happen. Mostly in Dom's court.
I remember the night chapter in gow 2 with the lightning and thunder and those creatures locked up in capsules. I shitted my pants.

I feel like they can tell a much darker and gritty story with this prequel. If they try to do something similar to Dead Space while maintaining the vibe of series, it will be great.

playing gears 5 campaign NEVER felt like i was in war, never, it always felt like a mildly dangerous road trip where u shoot stuff
I'm hoping we get a segment of the game either in Halvo Bay or Gorasnaya. Judgment did a pretty good job at showing how the locust just steamrolled through everything.
I am still scared, I think that's expected in today's industry, but they have all the potential sitting right there. This trailer gave me a wave a nostalgia, inspiring me to rewatch old GOW trailers. Past that, I think of Halo, Fallout, Mass Effect, and other franchises a lot of us grew up with. Most of these are a hollow shell of what they used to be. I love GOW, spent countless hours beating all 50 waves on GOW 3 horde multiple times with buds. Still, this could be another MCC disaster on our hands if they do a Marcus Fenix Collection. We'll see, but I'll remain extremely cautious.
The lack of release date worries me , so I’ll wait till we have more info
I’m not even a Gears fan and I’m so excited for this, so excited in fact that it’s only one of four games I’m excited for. I played Gears 5 but didn’t finish it cause it was boring but I’ve always wanted the others on PC, hopefully when I play Gears E-Day (or even before) then I can finally play them
I consider myself a pretty cynical person at times and I haven't felt excited for a new Gears of War since Gears of War 3, but this trailer, everything around it, I can almost feel it, this is the Gears of War we the fans have been asking for so long. I only felt this Hype back when Red Dead Redemption II was announced and just like RDR II was a masterpiece, I do believe E-Day will be another score for the Gears of War franchise. Can't wait to play and replay a thousand times the campaign just as I do with the XBox 360 Gears of War games

I plqyed Gears 3 when i was younger and only after watching a bunch of lore videos did i hop into Gears 5 which quickly became my favourite iut if every Gears game save the lack of chunkiness the originals have. I hope this isnt a Judgement situation where its a small game flanked by some kight multiplayer and its a full release. Gears 5 was such a good game and I'm excited to see what the Coalition puts out in the universe immediately following the Pendulum wars.

They did ruin some of my hope by saying they arent done with Kaits story but it is what it is
I am very excited and happy that we’re seemingly returning to the roots of Gears of War. But I’m also trying to remain cautious, there’s an interview where they state they have no intention of abandoning the storyline setup in 4 & 5. I personally haven’t played 4 or 5, because I personally did not like the new direction and later odd obsession they had with Kate. But them acknowledging that they will continue that storyline makes me worried that the Locust origins with Kate will bleed into this game. I personally preferred how mysterious and alien the Locust were in the originals, so I hope focus remains on the human struggle to survive E-Day.
But it’s still too early to tell, this teaser was brilliant though. I really hope I will get another great campaign to play through on insane with my friends. But since you have played the new games, what do you think of the lore additions they had for the Locust and how they could link back into this new game?
This game is definitely gonna be fire and they could make a trilogy of e day going all they up to marcus going to prison leading to gears of war 1 and marcus looks like that one guy from bulletstorm

I wonder if this game does end up campaign only, but they design a multiplayer similar to what warzone is for call of duty that fits gears of war. There’s a potential BR with a massive gears universe alive at E-Day. But then hopefully with that they include old school gears of war multiplayer with original game modes for the best of both worlds
I’m praying that this game is good because I love gears and hope that the game is a throwback to the older games

When you bring up a berserker, my first thought was that Marcus didn't encounter a berserker till Gears of war 1. But now I just imagine how difficult will it be to kill a berserker in the difficulty they're going to put on gears of war e day. Literally will be on insane difficulty.

You know the campaign is going to tragic as fuck, especially for Dom the man who lost just about everything during the opening moments of E-Day. All he had was Marcus to keep him sane and the hope that he’ll find Maria in the shitstorm the Locus created.

Lowkey, I think the gameplay should be way different. The fact Marcus is struggling with a regular Drone and is using more hand to hand-it would make 0 sense to mow down mobs of locust with guns. More hand to hand and a hardcore take would be really awesome.

Gears 5 story was atrocious. I don't believe I finished it because of how bad it was. I will however play this story. They can go many directions on E-Day. E-Day is 15 years. You can do a lot with 15 years of story. Including talking about "extinct" locust that never made it to Gears of War 1 because the cog took care of them already, etc.

I feel like they learned their lesson, they need a cash grab. They lost their fanbase since they went E for everyone. Now they need money!micro transaction, and fortnite level of gameplay lost them the numbers. They need that back, so they are going to make a game fans asked for, to fund their next trash that was gears 4/5.
