- A fresh flavor in the world of news, WION news has caught many eyes. Palki Sharma Upadhyay, the Executive Editor of WION, shares about the four gaps in the world of cluttered journalism.
In this talk, she rightfully shares how our world today is a 'grand storytelling competition' and 'it is a race of who delivers the story better'. She beautifully uses the analogy of ‘Katha’ and ‘Kathakar’ to land the point of how it’s not about just the story but the way it’s put across by the ‘Kathakar’. WION aims to give the consumers value for time by following the five steps of ethos, pathos, logos, metaphor, and brevity.
Palki Sharma Upadhyay, from WION, is someone who believes in saying it as it is. Her tremendous work with WION on issues like politics, business, international affairs, and social commentaries has made her an icon for aspiring journalists and youngsters alike. She also leads the only international news program in India called Gravitas.
Starting her career with the iconic Doordarshan, she has traversed her journey with stints at the Hindustan Times, CNN News-18, and iTV. Her work has touched the realm of journalism across the years, and today, she proudly represents objective and analytical journalism in India. I'm a Filipino who is tired of Western news and got lost in faith in journalism. She became my hope in believing. And now, an inspiration in my life to tell my story in my own way. 💖
She is great at storytelling. But news is also about content and perceptive. And if you do research, you will find, her boss of the company has 2 channels. And each channel gives opposite views on the same topic. It's called Hedging.
She is obviously very good at connecting with audiences. And we shouldn't expect more from a news anchor. But alot of people believe she knows and understands alot of different genre topics like Geopolitics, war strategies, etc.
I have seen that those topics which i am familiar with, she is wrong almost consistently on every topic.
So, consume her content with also same scrutiny like other news sources.
If you believe that she can do honest journalism under the Editor In Chief-ship of Sudhir Chaudhary, may the God save you.

I am Nigerian and to be honest, I have never been interested in international news (because of the way it was painted) until I watched one where she presented it and till today, I am hooked on the WION channel daily looking forward to palki sharma’s news presentations. Well done ma!

I am in the USA and I still watch her news cast on WION UA-cam even though she is not there. She is my role model and my favorite . She is very real and I respect her. I hope whoever has her next truly appreciates her talent. In my opinion she could start her own news channel and I’m confident that she would be flocked with viewers and subscribers. FYI she has Twitter and LinkedIn. Very impressive back ground and she owns her own design business. ❤

Palki sets the gold standard for journalism. Clarity, brevity, relevance, beauty and sheer class, she excels in all of these. I often feel that handling praise is much harder and riskier than handling criticism. May she not get swayed by the praise and continue to make bigger and bigger positive impact on this world.

Five pointers for a good story as per Aristotle:
1) Ethos : talking with authority
2) Logos: logical reasoning
3) Pathos: feelings and emotions. Genuine connect with listeners with honest and transperant delivery.
4) Metaphor: comparison by example. Drawing parallels with relatable events.
5) Brevity: short and punchy sentences

I am a Pastor in Germany but originally from Kenya. I had lost hope on journalists and Newscasters until I discovered Palki Sharma. She restored hope to me that there are still objective people who are true to the profession. Keep it up lady, you are doing great!

But little by little I realized the framing in WION ... and I get news from Palki where it says "Putin is dead, as per MI6" ... and the way she presents all makes you believe it is true but in reality it is just retelling the Anti-Russian narrative and fake news from the West and from Ukraine. I don't watch news for the Last couple of year, because almost all news channel are working like sheeps walking the way sheeps walks, they have forgotten all their ethics, manners, they don't mind to waste viewers time, lots fake news, in fact they don't show news, they have become tv shows models, always shouting and fighting, making fools public, but since I started news of wion news with Palki sharma upadhyay, i really fall in love with watching news once again.

Every narrative was about tilting her venom toward how her perceived colonizers were responsible for all bad. instead of focusing on indies innovation, it crept though her journalism and became very predictable.

The true gift is the colonials sharing vast quantities of knowledge in regards to technology and energy for example. You're right on point, "until the lions learn to write their own story, the tale of hunting will gratify the hunter". This is where most developing countries have been all these years and some continue to be. Gravitas is an exceptional news house, very straight to the point, no drama or twist to the truth. In some instances, Gravitas will present evidence from both sides of the story for listeners and viewers to conclude, that for me is news at a different level. I know Gravitas news is quite inward-looking when the news has to be about Pakistan or China. However, I believe your news has change the narrative and remove the cloud of deceit of Western news from many who want to know the truth about things happening around the globe. Finally to my favorite news broadcaster, Palki Sharma Upadhyay kudos to you. You make listening to the daily news like the cravings of a pregnant woman, we simply cannot go through the day without it especially from you. Keep writing the good story of India and that of many countries who don't have the opportunity to tell the world of the truth.

Like I know Pakistan and India hate each other, so when she talks about it, I know it's probably exaggerated or misconstrued. That's why you listen to news from other countries too. I watch over ten from all over the world. It's good to listen to other perspectives outside of Western Media because most people living in North America and Europe are very arrogant about our impact in the world.

I’ve gotten to know so much about world news and dynamics just by listening to Ms Palki here. Wikipedia is boring with so many dates and details, the big news channels sell propaganda and it’s all just messy.
Thanks to WION and the spectacular way Ms Palki delivers the news, I now know which country hates which and which are in alliances…all from an unbiased perspective.

Palka treats the audience with intelligence. Here in Australia, the media treat us people like idiots. Never can take their news as truthful in most instances. Very left sided in general, we do have some alternative channels though. But never do we hear the other side of the story, eg. Russia Ukraine war. The western media is very bias. Palki is a very intelligent journalist. Great show.

I get all my news from this channel. I first discovered it, as I'm South African, and this was the only international channel not freaking out and overreacting about our Omicron discovery. The sensational panic of the international media outlets was so damaging to our country and so unfair.
That's true. I felt so bad when western so called "liberal and open minded" countries stopped flights and no one came to help. On the other hand those countries will never call CHINA accountable for not sharing details of covid spread in early 2020s. We live in a world where 'MIGHT IS RIGHT". Equality is just an illusion.

If you're so triggered by people supporting or appreciating others, then try posting independent comments and feel free to express your feedbacks on the govt. or the media Houses. Passing remarks anonymously onto comments of others due to lack of self confidence is itself a display of what kind of crowd you belong to or what kind of people have clubbed up together to hate Modi govt or the media houses.

palki has story telling skill, but she has a distinct inferiority complex toward the west. Every narrative was about tilting her venom toward how her perceived colonizers were responsible for all bad. instead of focusing on indies innovation, it crept though her journalism and became very predictable.

As an Indian, I know why Palki TRASHES the West. There are many reasons for that. the Gravitas program is RARE program in India. Rest of the Indian news channels talk about the West in an uncritical and mechanical manner.
Her graceful unbiased delivery allows us to trust her in hearing unpleasant truths.
She is the only reason I started back watching news. No bias and packed with all things relevant to today's life.
As a journalist for the last 30 years and a journalism and mass communication teacher for over 15 years, I knew the entire 'Katha' Palki told in this video. But I watched this video of 10 minutes very intently and attentively because of the 'Kathakar'. She has mastered the art of storytelling very sincerely.
Not a single second, word or sentence wasted. This 10 minutes kept me utterly engaging. This is indeed a life lesson! Wonderful!

😭I had to watch this twice and almost even cried the second time how much this resonates with me! Like many, I turned away from today’s biased mass media outlets to unfiltered social media for direct news because I would rather eat an honest poor man’s meal than poison… UNTIL PALKI SHARMA AND WION!
