I think I'm finally going to give vosteed a chance with this one. I've been told they're doing their own manufacturing now and according to their website it looks like they've addressed the glaring issue I had with the trek lock by upgrading to a one piece integral button.
As to weak lockup issues with some button locks, I've decided to treat them as a strong double detent rather than weak locking knives. (edit: fixed autocorrected word)

@@OGBladeReviewsHave you tried to spine tap it lightly? I don't know if it's the bigger 3.25 blade or all of the thunder birds that disengaged. All the videos are up. Does this specific one fail? I was gonna buy this 2.98 blade in this color 😢

I’ve always liked the Thunderbird but it was a bit big for me. This size is perfect for an EDC knife.
I know you've said you don't place a lot of weight on the spine tap test, which for the most part I agree with. My question is do you think they have improved overall lock up with this 3" model? I like the 3" one but can't seem to figure out why the 3.2" and 3.5" are significantly cheaper than this new 3".
Smaller knives usually mean less material, but that is not always justification for dropping the price. They continue to use their trek lock patented button lock which engages the tang of the blade differently than traditional button locks. Not so much with the rap test, but an accidentally pressing the button during use is what I'm mostly concerned with and this is a very good improvement over other standard button locks in the several models I've used and tested from the company
They also released an in between size in m399 and the topo g10. i got one of those because i wanted the red and black like the OG but i got the black blade. I am ambivalent about it. I am not at the firm conclusion that deep carry pocket clips are extremely overrated and at least for me so uncomfortable that they almost kill my like of a knife. unfortunately everyone is doing them now. i may try titanium hopefully that will address the issue better. mine just barely fits my hand, as it is larger then the carbon fiber. i originally thought it was just a drop of the original handle size and all just in m390.
I also have had opening problems with anything other than the rear flipper and slow rolling. enough that i almost got bit i couldn’t feel the blade whisper to my finger and hand as it passed. I hate to cut it loose , but i am considering it.
It is extremely nice just not sure it’s what works for me.
Not all opening methods do it for me either. I'm a dyed in the wool thumb stud kind of guy! 😁🗡️👍

I wish I had the cormorant to compare, but I don't. Whether or not it's as good would be a question for each individual user, but definitely this is a well-made knife as with most Vosteeds. 👍
