The dog holding the bone tied to the shotgun trigger is just the best thing I've ever seen.
Man and beast coexisting…..imagine that❤
It isss
I haven't seen this in years
Didn't remember that
This scene is pure gold
It's turns out later, we see that the gun is empty. (Spoiler!)
Fantastic.
They say the dog loved the actor who played the gyro captain so filming scenes where the dog was "attacking" him was pretty hard so instead they just used scenes where the dog was playing with him and added the growls in post.
This scene is one of many subtle hints, showing Gyro captain's warm hearted trait. The very first thing he orders Max is 'don't hurt the snake!' (instead of 'put the weapon down').
Suppose Gyro would go full John Wick on Max if he hurt the snake.
Later in the movie he talks about how he has a recipe for snake and that he plans on eating it.
😢@@KetchupOverdoseBut ONLY AFTER the snake has already died by other means... there's no sense in wasting the snake's dead body, especially when you are in a pure survival mode...
I love how genre savvy the Gyro Captain is. He has the snake set up to kill anyone (which works later in the movie,) he's hiding in the sand in ambush, AND he correctly guesses Max has a weapon hidden by the booby trap. The only thing he didn't count on was the dog. To his credit, the dog, snakes, and a couple of rabbits are the only animals in the whole movie.
That snake also killed off a rare Australian 2 door muscle car also in the process of that moat jump Gawd Damnit
The only way that snake is going to kill someone is by frightening them to death, it’s a carpet python and non venomous.
Muy buena observación!
In the first two movies there's always the crowing of crows when somthings up
Really gives off the impression that only the smart and strong survive.
Bruce Spence, still with us at age 75 (12/2020)
He also did the voice of Sauron...
"I SEE YOU!!!!!!!!!"
also played the train man in the matrix. "down here, i'm god!"
@@marzsit9833 he also played a poacher in ace ventura 2:when nature calls
Also Chum the Mako Shark in Finding Nemo.
Damn, and I was just thinking at 1:58 "He really looks like the Mouth of Sauron with that grin!"
@@BadSkeelz yup, my bad before, saying he was the voice of Sauron, he was the MOUTH of Sauron
It's funny as shit when the Gyro Captain finds out the shotgun has been empty the whole time. "That's dishonest!! LOOOOWWWW!!"
Mugging passers by with a snake is good honest work though xD
@@acolddarkgentlebruh8205It's not hypocritical: it's a real snake and real crossbow.
He gives you the honest choice between death and loss of property.
Max just bluffs.
This is one of many examples of dry Aussie humor that is (sadly) lacking in the newer film. I think a brilliantly laconic line from Max is when he shuts down The Gyro Captain's complaining with "The deal was I wouldn't kill you. I'd say you got a bargain."
‘Never seen a man beat the snake before…….who are ya?’
Max is formidable.
I love that the dog was so playful- watch him tugging at the scarf as Max dragged him off…😁
This and the original Terminator were game changers forever.
The first Mad Max movie shared the low budget feel of the original Terminator, but this felt like it had more of a cultural impact, even disregarding that the US didn't get the first MM.
The character look of The Terminator is a straight lift of Max Rockatansky.
"Oh, you crafty little man you...you're quick, very quick!"
"Opens the left door"
Dog: but I do too 🐶
Ka chunk, ka chunk, ka chunk. classic.
I used to use this phrase with my brother growing up. Epic scene and movie! It made pop culture!
That overhead (0:46) shot is just gorgeous. Used it as a wallpaper for many years
Classic Hitchcockian.
This scene and the entire film is a masterclass.
Amen to that
Mel Gibson used to be so dman good.
@@ldmt1995 talk about someone actually falling off the scene 😑😔
He still has massive charisma. An old man Mad Max with Mel as the lead would actually be an incredible film.
One of the only sequels that didn't disappoint
Bruce Spence the gyrocopter pilot, what a great scene, still enjoyable today ! 👍😎😊
Little does the rest of the world know, but this is a standard Aussie outback day, we have gyrocopters flying everywhere nowadays, worse than flies the buggars
This movie is responsible for hundreds if not thousands of gyrocopter pilot's lololol
Need a real bug swatter.......industrial size
ไทยูแรมอยากจะพูดว่า
Better than high tech drones listening to residential chatter.
Got some out here convinced they're seeing Outer Space U.F.O.'s..
no way for real ?
The best dog scene in a movie ever . . . especially when he sees the rabbit.
I saw this before mad max came out. It was released as the Road Warrior in the USA. Such a good name that the best tag team ever took the name from this movie. Even a heel wrestler was named Lord Humongous
The vhs van came around in 1983... £1 a night... this film was in the back... I was 16.. watched it.. blew me away.. no cgi..
Bruce Spence is great in this role!!
Always loved his character as well as many of the others in the film. Would have loved to have seen another installment where Max finally forms a team with the Gyro Captain and the Warrior Woman.
Kinda impossible since the WW dies in the end.
Growing up with these movies, it’s so awesome to see how many others love these films and characters. Best decade ever!! Just think there was a time you could ride a BMX to rental store and come home with this…Robocop, Aliens, Terminator, every crazy slasher flick worth watching…movies where after you watched them once you were hooked for life!
Max has full confidence in his dog.
Coolest movie dog ever
And the outback IS that empty. Not hard to find somewhere to film and not worry about spectators, cars or planes. If you want to be alone Australia has plenty of it.
Probably also why Mad Max survived nuclear weapons. He likely went so far from civilization as a rogue police officer that he wouldn’t be found before the nukes hit.
@@KaosNova2 yeah depending on the blast radius he certainly would survive
Wyoming, Montana, and the Dakotas are pretty much empty too.
@@KaosNova2 Who would even nuke Australia?
@@spaceflight1019Wyoming is an underrated State. Absolutely beautiful place!
Define epic in just three words: Mad Max 2.
America: The Road Warrior
Fun fact: Bruce Spence played the Mouth of Sauron in LOTR Return of the King
Star Wars also! When Obi Wan is looking for General Grievious
He was also the train guy on Matrix.
Ccfffffffff
@@dadoody train guy was super obvious it was him.
He was also the voice of Chum, the mako shark who was friends with Bruce and Anchor in Finding Nemo.
At 3:24, Gyro describes refinery.
"Kachoonk kachoonk" with a whiny voice.
Classic scene from a classic movie
This movie is a classic
Thx for the Post THIS has always been my favorite clip of the movie I don't know what happened to Mel Gibson after Beyond the Thunder Dome but I love this movie and I love THIS section of the movie thank you once again
Every scene is gold, even the fillers.
Your quick I've never seen a man beat a snake before !!
A combination of three movies are ready to come true ....mad Max 2, Idiocracy and devil's advocate.
Road Warrior is simply the ultimate Post-Apocalyptic Western.
All others that follow have a lot to measure up to.
This movie has class, balls and V8 engine roar!
The dog never recieved the accolades it deserved. Damn fine actor.
True star of the movie.
@@aussiviking604 AYE!!
Great doggie.
Schmacco?
I think Mel actually kept it after filming was done
Anyone else wonder what else max did that day? I know a scene was deleted that led to the opening chase where Max comes across Wez and the gang killing a homesteader or something.
At 01:43 the gyro captain orders Max to turn around, but it's the gyro captain who changes position. Max is already in charge.
Never noticed the 'artwork' on the rudder of the gyrocopter until now.
It's the 20 year old Karen Price. She was Playboy Playmate of the Month for January 1981.
@@marialva8235 lotta girl
There's a gyrocopter in this scene? That's how I know you're gay. 😆
Karen Price. Absolutlely stunning.
same here.
"April is the cruelest moth, beating on the powdery vale of Carnation . . ."
"I got brains"
*holds the crossbow in a way that if he fires it will take his fingers off*
Or at the very least, it will smart.
Also, he is jumpy as fuck, and putting a distance weapon close to someone,s body is asking for being disarmed, with Max coordination it would be possible.
I can tell they tried very hard in this scene to not make 5'9" Mel Gibson look like a midget next to 6'7" Bruce Spence. Camera angles, Mel being closer to the camera, Bruce not standing up straight, big heels and lifts for Mel, flat shoes for Bruce.
I just realized that the very first word Max says in the movie is booby
Ive thought of that for several years and laughed to myself..
Ha ha
If you're out in the wastelands alone for years on end, what else would you think of? I'd think about it too.
Let's just say that most of us in the post-apocalyptic wastelands would have....ummm...one arm significantly stronger than the other
Note the artwork on the gyrocopter...
Squirrel! Nope, just a rabbit. Sit tight there, captain.
Dog man's best friend.
I find it unlikely that Max would just murder the captain with his knife in cold blood. The captain was about to rob him but probably had no intention of physically harming Max.
The first time I saw the gyro captain I thought this guy is tricky as they come
1:50 I've been looking all day for this lmfaooo
Gyro captain shitting his whack when the hare runs past the car.
What a great dog!
After the apocalypse, Bluey had to do whatever it took...not necessarily what made him proud.
The thumbnail image of the Gyro copter and the V8 Interceptor, has a sister image out there.
From it's Inverted twin movie...Top Gun.
The scene when Maverick holds Goose in the ocean as a rescue copter hovers nearby.
Splish Splash I was takin a bath!
We do not treat with the Mouth of Sauron, faithless and accursed!
Oh my God that dog is so cool!
What does he say just after "20 miles from here"? I cant make it out. Mad Max 1 and 2 are full of conversation that's indecipherable
This is basically UK people at petrol stations:
Ha ha ha🤣
Not at petrol stations, but some distance away "Looks like ah got meself some guzzoline, aye?"
Extraordinary 😊❤
The man would be dead straight away if my dog got to hold the bone :D
Later in the movie it's revealed the gun was empty at the time.
Wow, this is the future, but I can see in the gyro tail the 1981 centerfold of the playmate Karen Price. (1:02)
It's set around 1991/2 if you count approximate years. That's fairplay coz he might have carefully stored it or just found it post-apocalypse and kept for portable 'R&R'... even when flying.
Film was made in 1981.but I'm more concerned that you knew the date of the centre fold and who it was ,ha ha.
By the Mad Max timeline, this is circa 1988-90, no later.
"Oh, you crafty little man you...you're quick!"
Karen Price is timeless.
Australian Cattle Dog, aka The Queensland Heeler, best and Smartest Dogs on earth, I know got one myself , so quick in learning what you teach them and studying your own movements to figure you out, always observing their favorite person
Fun Fact: Bruce Spence has played in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
You forgot Matric Reloaded. He's the guy who definitely knows where he's god.

The humans who brought dogs and rabbits to Australia...
My best movie of all time 💯 🤙
Bluey in charge of the trigger👍👍 Mad Max is nearly as good as Bond!
Is Bluey a nickname made up by fans?
@@timberwolf27 the dog breed is a Blue Heeler
I'm pretty sure the character Howling Mad Murdock of the A-Team series, is based on this Gyro Captain.
0:42 - The aerial shot shows footprints leading away from the gyrocopter (as a decoy most likely), but how does the gyro captain manage to cover up his tracks in the sand after burying himself in it?
Skills, man. Mad skills. A broom or rake of some kind, or sprinkling sand behind him to cover up his tracks
Sweep them with branch/bush
Watching the behind the scenes features of Revenge of the Sith and everyone involved keeps mentioning Bruce Spence's role here lol
@ 4:15, I guess that7s the dog food in the box in the rear of the car that Max eats later in the film?
A dingo
god damnit i love this movie
Fucking classic
The weapon in the car probably is not loaded haha
Did u ever see the film?
شو اسم الفلم
Doesn't matter, his dog is just that good and cool under pressure...
Cute dog
Best part of this movie is his dog.
Try the 1975 movie, A Boy And His Dog. The dog in that movie is telepathic too. The Mad Max movies were inspired by A Boy And His Dog.
very good
Never understood how he didn’t recognize him in beyond thunderdome
Max drives. Gyro lays in-wait.
Desert. OUTBACK.
Maverick flies. Goose sits in-wait.
Sea..."OUT TO..."
Max with tire iron (snake-shaped) snatches and controls live snake.
Mav with joystick (snake-shaped) cant control plane.
Gyro springs from beneath ground (dirt canopy)
Breathed air through straw.
Goose gasps for air.
Springs into cockpit ceiling ("watch the canopy!").
Gyro might pin Max's head to panel for escape attempt.
Spinout has Mav "pinned forward", needs Goose to facilitate their escape.
Gyro can take the shot at Max, instead he turns toward car where Dingo 'dawg' springs to attack.
Mav can take his shot but is obstructed.
Ice peels AWAY (in F14-'Tomcat') causing Mav's engines 1 and 2 to both die.
Max bluffs Gyro with weapon.
2 empty barrels.
Top Gun rescue copter spinning over the ocean.
Mad Max spinning (Gyro) aircraft on the ground.
Max tossed away dice.
He doesnt care for 'chance' or luck.
Dice belonged to previous snake victim.
Goose dies from bad luck (determined by Navy panel).
Gyro tells Max to let go of the snake.
Viper (venomous snake) tells Maverick about aviator deaths like Goose, "First ONE dies, then YOU die too. There WILL be others, you can COUNT on it (dice). Ya gotta let him go!"
Movie MM: Feral kid howls for Max to continue at night.
Movie TG: Wolfman calls out that "Maverick just quit!"
"...that's the way he flies, Ice Cold. He wears ya down, ya get bored and do something stupid...he's got you!"
Was Goose describing Tom Kazansky or Max Rokatansky??
Certainly not Tom Cruise, maybe Mel who hates Jews?
What the fuck is this schizophrenic brick of a message?
My Best movie Mad max 2
i can say it now, i've been selling british-australian securities from my dorm
room since i was 18 and have come to realize i can't argue with a stretch -
i have watched this many time but just noticed if he fires that crossbow he's gonna lose a finger or a thumb .........or it will just misfire
The pilot is the same actor who portrays the Mouth of Sauron in the Return of the King.
Mad max 2 Is my first movie in cinema 1981
He was going to take his thumb off if he pulled that trigger on the crossbow
He does not know how to hold a crossbow, he would chop off his fingers if he would shot!
If you look in the way he is holding that crossbow he doesn't have too many brains. Good way to lose a finger and a thumb.
Fun fact the dog was scheduled to be euthanized but was saved by the film makers
When we were kids we cal that guy, “Taeng gnipin” because of full of dirt on his teeth!
camping trip down under
Junkrat from Overwatch
Nothing to add!
Two days ago I saw a vehicle that would haul that tanker
You want to get out of here ,

EXCELLENT AND EXPERIENCE WORK NASEER QATAR DAKAR RALLY .. QATAR AIRWAYS💚😊😆😆😀😍😍💛💘💘💘
2 legendary scenes for eternity. 1st one is the one where in pursuit he dodges arrow and Wez gets it in his upper arm.
Something unique and probably unrepetable in modern cinematography. According to this movie modern movies especially from 2015 are bunch of crap and those directors are on the level of drug addicts. Just being honest.
what doesn't add up in this scene is why the captain lies lurking beneath the sand. Rather unusal hunting method. Must've been hot down there under the sand in the Australian summer.
DE chico quise tener ese autogiro :-D
1:50 3:07
Didn't know the gyrocaptain was a fremen
how can get full movies film
I loved the part when he boobytrapped and my second part he said u huge tank of whole crap and last he was trying to get the car but backed up
I really appreciate you so much for your commitment over my movies career, I'm nothing without a fans like you...
Awww cute little carpet python
How long do you think he would have to wait for someone to come along even on a normal day. Yet alone after the world had gone to shit and most of the population are dead
