Mad Max 2 - retitled The Road Warrior in the US - is a standard-bearer for successful sequels and one of the greatest action movies of all time.
This is an authorised five-minute making of Mad Max 2 that focuses on the heroic work of the film's stunt performers - including a look at two dangerous stunts that don't go according to plan.
The hyperbolic voice-over, aimed at international audiences, begins with 'Broken Hill, Australia's last frontier town', referring to the location for the production. After a brief on-location interview with producer Byron Kennedy, we get to see the armada of cars that feature in the film.
But the real interest is in seeing the dramatic stunts being performed and the documentary effectively captures the dangers inherent in action films. In fact, it's hard to imagine a promotional making-of documentary today giving such a candid look at stunts that go awry.
First, we see stunt performer Guy Norris's tumbling leap through the air which was so spectacular it remained in the film. As a qualified medical doctor, director George Miller examined Norris - who broke his leg performing the stunt - before he was ferried by ambulance to hospital.
While Norris could not resume work on Mad Max 2, he has had a long career as a stunt performer and coordinator. As supervising stunt coordinator on Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), he drove a 10-tonne, 16-wheel truck at 100 kilometres per hour directly into a wrecked 16-wheeler, without slowing down!
We also see Mad Max 2 stunt coordinator Max Aspin's car clip the top of a pile of wreckage it was supposed to clear. He too is injured and exits the production. He returned to work a few months later and his later credits as stunt coordinator include Razorback (1984) and Crocodile Dundee (1986).

This movie hasn’t dated. What a masterpiece. I never tire of watching it again and again.

By far the absolute greatest apocalyptic movie ever made in history.
Truth is the movie runs way too long on a single simple premise that society unbelievably broke down this much. The movie runs out of gas far too soon ( no pun intended).
@@2000jago I never took dope in my life. Look. It had a sentence of premise that it tried to run the whole film on. Bomb! Film is perfect for 15 year olds.

@@2000jago I fell in love with this movie at age 5… I’m 39 now and love it all the same, if not more! This is the universe I lived in growing up; while others were watching Star Wars I was cutting my teeth on the Mad Max trilogy! It’s prepared me for a lot, these films are slowly becoming reality!

Crazy the take of the stunt that sent the man to the hospital was not only used in the Movie but Trailer as well.

It wasn't, not in the movie. It's the same stunt but not the same guy. In the movie he spins slower through the air, and clearly leaves the bike before the full-on impact. it'd have been cooler if they kept the original stuntman, looked way wilder.

@@CliffuckingBooth Check how many flips he does in the "slowed down" version vs. the behind the scenes video. In the slowed down one, he's flying through a greater distance with fewer spins, so definitely not the same.
@@rustneversleeps85 There is no point in arguing. It is the same guy and same scene. Only in the movie its slowed down and cut much sooner than here (and shot from different camera). Also he spins exactly the same. It's widely known fact that it's the same guy. Also the point was NOT to hit the car. Just fly over it. The stuntman broke both his legs with that impact. So you want to tell us that they used another stuntman who hit it exactly the same and broke his legs as well? Can't believe you don't see it. It's clear as a day. You even see the car and bike moving exactly the same after the impact.
To this day this one of my favourite movies. I don't even know how many times I watched this masterpiece. The stuntmen and women must have been mad lads and lasses.
Narrator - what a voice. Music at the beginning, was outstanding
It's always intriguing watching old footage.. especially from a really good film like mad Max.

This was the best Mad Max ever and the chase was right up there with the 7ups and Bullit.

This is why Hollywwood nowadays killed this unique style of movie making.
Stunt people of that time were commited with whatever project they were hired even with their lives. Now everything is CGI, harnesses and green screens that will always lack of this realism. We still ❤ the 80's

They still use stunt people. In actual fact, a stunt woman was killed during the making of Deadpool 2.

No wonder i loved this movie more than all the others...the risks were greater in the action stunts! this movie is a stand alone, much like Jaws or something like that...you just cant compare it to anything else. Not even his other movies-not even Fury Road which I thought was a stylistic masterpiece.

Stunt men have never been paid as much as one would think giving that they just risk their lives over and over. Stunt men are simply born for the job. Money is not their main motivation, the thrill is.

I'm shocked at the hodgepodge junk they used for safety and ramps....we built better ramps when we were kids jumping our Schwinn stingrays. I love these movies I always watch the reruns even though I've seen them a 100 times, they never get old

The BEST Mad Max sequel ever. Cool f***ing cars, lots of action, and pretty of carnage. After Mad Max 2, there were a lot of chessy rip-offs, but not one of them came even close.
I waited years to watch Mad Max 2, because Mad Max 1 was quite underwhelming. But Road Warrior/Mad Max 2 is much better!

That was performed by a man named Dennis Williams.
There’s footage of the truck role on UA-cam. That stunt driver got injured too. (Surprise, surprise) Mel said it was a wonder anyone survived. They couldn’t make a movie that way today.
The original Aussie classic is still the best. And they dubbed it for the yanks😛

Would someone here be able to tell me if Fury Road is a sequel or a reboot or open to interpretation? I just recently got really into Mad Max and I'm trying to make sense of the world and lore. And official sources aren't very helpful when it comes to the lore and characters

Fury road was just another way to destroy a bunch of stuff for fun.
It was good in its own way.
I rented Mad Max 2/Roadwarrior so much, they eventually started to give it to me for free and told me to return it whenever. Then I realized I spent $200 in rentals.

For me Fury Road is a sequel and a reboot...at the same time....let me explain.
If you watch the first 3 movie ,they tell you a story with a begin and a end,with Max who rediscovers its own humanity.
Between the third movie and Fury Road,there is the comic book writen by George Miller (!) Nico Lathouris and Mark Sexton,who serve like a prequel for Fury Raod and for a bridge for the old and new movie.
So you can watch the movie and enjoyed it as a separate thing or a continue.
I hope i have explained myself...but however what a spectacle that is Mad Max!
