I love the Gyro Captain, he's as cunning as Max - he's smart enough to have one set of tracks out from the 'copter but to have camouflaged his tracks back. It's a shame Bruce Spence's character in 'Thunderdrome' wasn't the captain. It would have been good to see two old mates get together.
SPOILER - It makes sense though since he led the caravan at the end of the movie to start a settlement as a chief. The narrator was the feral kid who later succeeded as the next chief.

I had read, years ago, the next Mad Max movie after the Thunderdome was going to focus on the realization that the only radioactive-clear water was the ice in Antarctica. The Green-Zone people who saw the dead cities formed an alliance with the Sydney port people and began taking trips to Antartica to “mine” ice for transport back to Australia. They then used it to trade with whomever they felt like. Max got involved when pirates started attacking the “ice” fleets. The Green People had to go back to their original oasis to enlist him. The oasis was dying so he really had no choice but to help. I dont know whatever happened to that scenario but it obviously died. Too bad, I would’ve liked to see some of the ships and attack boats the designers would’ve come up with. And the mining operation for ice would’ve been… cool, too!
I watched a great UA-cam review for MadMax2. Had to agree that GyroMan had all the signs of someone who treasured life, who had not given up. Colourful clothes, and flower in lapel of coat. Yet Max had objective reality as well. When he was sorting through possessions of dead man and took little music box, he discarded the dice. No place for luck in hard world, for you have to make careful planned decisions to survive. Unlike Han in that Han Solo movie where he loved his dice.
