@Stanly Qbrick Beyond Thunderdome was a Hollywood production I do believe. They went to a studio for the 3rd film. The first 2 films were Australian films produced independently. That’s why this film has a PG-13 rating I believe, the studio forced it to be toned down.
Had not Byron Kennedy been tragically killed before filming and the need for a second co-director... I think this would have been a far better movie... but I'm not knocking it.. It has a place in my heart for 80's nostalgia.. 🧡
Garbage ! When the guy died at 34 years old from a helicopter crash , what he produced prior to his death was FCK All , the real brains behind mad max was George Miller . This guy was just a TAG along PLEB .
Even as a child, the method of removing the harpoon always bothered me. Removing it by opening the door is going to introduce rotation as the barb is pulled out, doing even more damage than was already done. Why didn't they saw the barb off and pull the shaft straight out. Why, why, why!?
Because they couldn't have the " what happened to number 2 scene "........., but I get what you mean, stuff like that drives me crazy in movies 😜!!!!!!!!
even Miller’s more average films are still better than most. thunderdome is the worst of the max films but its still a bloody good film. and the ending of this movie is the best in the whole max saga. the children flying over destroyed Sydney is utterly haunting.
I don't know why thunderdome is such a black sheep. The stunts and effects are just as good as road warrior. Max has a similar turn around in likability. The characters are more memorable. The story felt more righteous. I guess I can blame the middle half of the film that drags a bit leading up to and getting out from the orphan sanctuary but I still think thunderdome is underrated
Because the movie is cartoony in feel and the characters are too busy trying to be funny. The movie is too "Hollywood" to be nearly as good as Road Warrior.
Agreed, and I would say this action sequence is better than Road Warrior's, and a clear evolution of master George Miller's vision for the crazy action from the previous two. You can truly see in this sequence what he would go on to extrapolate on in Fury Road to such an effective degree. The motor mayhem master!
0:01 My Dad met him in person. They both met at a Doctor's Office. The guy was always late for his doctor appointment because he walked to his appointment instead of drove.
The Road Warrior gets a lot of love, and not so much this one which is a shame. This is really the turning point in the Mad Max world where things went from immediate post apoc to the absolute nightmare wasteland we see in Fury Road.
This one doesn't get love because it's just not nearly as good of a film. It feels so "Hollywood", with stupid comedic relief and the music not being nearly as good. Road Warrior felt so authentic and raw.
Beyond Thunderdome is still superior to Fury Road, which I found to be a forgettable mess of chasing, followed by chasing, etc... Much can be remembered of BT, while little is memorable of FR.
la critica fue injusta, para mi fue una buena pelicula, es noltalgia pura pra mi, la vi desde niño, y me emociona de adulto, siempre vi esta esta version como una esperanza al mundo de max
I gave this movie a 50-50. I really like Tina Turner in it. But unlike the first movie meaning the road warrior, this movie just did not have enough violence. If you know what I mean. It was like everybody got hurt, but nobody really died. I mean it wasn’t really that bloody. Just didn’t seem very realistic. In reality a world like that would’ve been much more brutal. Overall a pretty decent movie. But you can’t beat the road warrior or mad Max Fury Road.
I'm not sure if this movie is underrated, The road warrior gets the most love and rightfully so, and I was expecting another road warrior movie when I watched this for the first time, but after seeing a few more, it grew on me. I respect that they took a different direction and didn't make a carbon copy. My main complaint is that it doesn't take itself seriously enough. maybe one reason was to make it more palatable for a larger audience as the road warrior was pretty brutal. Making iron bar virtually indestructible was just silly, some of the comedic stuff hit, and some of it was just too corny. And then there's a couple of scenes that are outright derivative, one is where Max is chasing a bunch of people in the refinery, then turns the corner and you see him retreating with an even larger crowd after him. That's right out of Star wars when Han Solo chases the Stormtroopers. Earlier in the movie, there's a scene where a guy pulls out some blades and starts wielding them and Max pulls out his gun and shoots the guys Mohawk plume, where he actually blows out feathers from his mouth. A little too silly, and right out of the Indiana jones/Raiders of the Lost ark scene. Other than that, this is a classic and deserves respect for the effort, the storytelling and the world building.
agreed; this was the mainstream version of The Road Warrior; but the cinematography/camera angles, design, soundtrack, and lore are more than enough to grant this film a B+ or even a 4 stars out of 5.
❤ Здесь мел просто зверь... В современом максе если бы я снимался молчаливый патрюльный потерявший семью. Я бы static X фоном поставил усилило бы напряжение
I understand people's issues with this film...but in terms of scope, imagination, action (at least this final chase) and sound design it's superior to Road Warrior IMO. Road Warrior still feels like Miller learning his craft, trying things out (it's fucking awesome, don't get me wrong). Thunderdome is especially better in terms of the sound design. The mixing of various lairy sounding V8's and even what sound like jet engines in this add so much to the intensity of the chase scene, and the music isn't as jarring as in RW. I feel like Miller mastered the kind of frenetic, flowing, building-in-intensity action set piece he was trying to do in RW, and then he went on to do it even better (and for longer!) in Fury Road (again I know some of you got off the train at RW, fair play - beyond thunderdome was my first MM movie being born in '80, so I don't always expect darkness and violence). Bottom line: Miller is a creative genius and best action director on the planet!
In all my favorites are the mad max films. Are we looking at a possible future. I know gen x(me) think it is very possible. But what hell of stunt people in all the mad max movies. They are the greatest.
The comedic screams were really bad in this. Just murdered the action. I don't know, maybe it was so bad without them that they figured making it more comedic would at least make it seem intentional. But really, the action in this is just weak, outside of the vehicle to vehicle jumps early in it.
It was the 80s there’s not a lot of seriousness (?) as there is back then with these types of action sequences especially in these R rated movies compared to today
