    my first bird pet was a budgie.
    I named him Buddy the Budgie.
    I had him trained as well.
    knew how to hop on my finger of course, shake my finger.
    had a thing when he was out I'd clap my hands and regardless what he was doing would come to me.
    also had many ways I would play with him.
    but at 8 years old he became very sick.
    I can't remember exactly what happened.
    not a fond memory but he had to be put asleep.
    many years later I got a green cheek conure I enjoy but she has allot of attitude and angers easily haha
    but she loves me and is trained to do many things (when she not mad at me and biting my finger)

    We had our budgie for 10 years and although he never learned to speak words, he was the best pet a family could ask for. He loved to cuddle with us and groom my dads mustache! Watching this video makes me want to get a new feathery companion

    Awww that budgie is too cute. Our little budgie has been with us for two years now. I have lots of allergies that have gotten worse as I've aged so we couldn't get a cat or dog. So we decided to get a bird. She has added so much to our family. She is a sweetheart. She is free to fly around with her door open all day. We've taught her to say a couple of things. I just trained her to poo before she flies around. She is adorable.

      Depends on the bird. My budgie used to be quiet unless she was around me or could hear other parrots. If someone or something she didn't know was around she'd become nervous and quiet, and sometimes even straight up fly back to her cage (then either sit in the corner of the top perch or viciously attack her mirror/bell)

    Tip; when cleaning a bird cage, sprinkle baking soda under a layer of paper towels on the bottom of the cage to help soak up any smell. Make sure there's no baking soda where the bird can reach it. Also, look in the rodent section of a pet store for toys. They're often cheaper and made out of the same stuff bird toys are made out of.

    I honestly thing these are the most important and necessary videos that Animal Wonders makes. I grew up onlu with cats for the most part, but I saw many friends and neighbors with other, more exotic animals kept in poor enclosures and not cared for properly. These videos give me a little more hope that more animals will be treated the right way!

    Had a sweet, loving budgie when I was a kid. Acted exactly like a dog, down to "barking" at me when I got home, fetching and returning toys, and basically being the best little homie around. He even liked to play and build with lego, which he started doing own his own. But as a warning to any owners of small pets: ALWAYS be careful where you step. RIP Max, you were too cool and went too early.

    I have some questions about lovebirds actually: my two lovebirds, assumed both are females, they are cage mates, they tolerate each other, but they aren't best friends, I'm thinking of slowly introducing a male to them, hoping that a bigger flock will decrease hostilities, they rarely ever truly fight, and they have never drawn blood from each other, only once by accident. They go to bed huddled next to each other at night and groom each other occasionally, they don't like being separated from each other, I'm open for any advice!

    • @pigeonincognito
      @pigeonincognito 3 роки тому +3

      hey i know it might be a little too late, but i might suggest not putting in the male, (unless you already have of course), because the females may fight over the male, I would caution that! :00

    Isn't a pellet diet better than a seed one? Or is that just for birds other than budgies?

    • @animalwondersmontana
      @animalwondersmontana  8 років тому +31

      I recommend pellets for all other species of parrot type birds, but the majority of budgies won't eat a pelleted diet. So instead of pushing pellets I chose to recommend a great diet that is more realistically achievable. The key is to include a variety of fresh veggies and sprouted seeds along with the dry seed mix. Thanks for asking!

    Thank you! This was wonderful :) I'm pretty lucky to live in Australia and have pet budgie. I use Eucalypt branches for perches (they're native). He shreds the bark off them. And sometime I put a small branch of Eucalypt leaves in the cage, which he loves to chew on too.

    I've had 2. A blue one that I got from a family friend. It was kinda tormented by kids and cats. He was a grumpy old man until his last few days where he just wanted to be held. The second was albino and I got her the day after the first one passed. She was being abused in the cage at petsmart by the other birds. She was hated by my cockatiel. The albino was super friendly and like my cockatiel was trained to put itself away at night. She finally passed when an egg ruptured in her and caused lacerations internally.

    What are the ways that I can work on my relationships with my budgies if they're a few years old and I bought them like half a year ago? Like I really wanna get to know them but I don't have any experiences with birds!

    • @ciderlord4621
      @ciderlord4621 7 років тому +2

      The best thing to do is separate them then try to get them used to you individually. If there's another bird and they aren't socialized they will be more apt to bond with the other animal and not you. The next question is probably how you get them used to you. Well you just sit by the cage for a few minutes and talk quietly to them. If they stop being afraid then you can kind of stick your hand in the cage (don't grab them yet) and see how they react. If they're still nervous repeat the exercise however many times until they calm down. Once that's done do the same thing, but with a treat that you know they enjoy so it gets them coming to you. After that you should try to encourage them to step up on your finger which can be trained with perches (admittedly I don't have much experience with this method) or you could just gently put your finger at the bottom of their belly just above their feet. The main thing you'll need is patience, because some take longer than others to tame.

    Although I would never do this now and express the same to those interested in budgies, I indeed purchased a lovely budgie myself a year ago that was hand-raised: her name is Bean and she is an utter joy!
    With that being said, however, I think often about adopting a companion for her but do not know if she would enjoy their company, given her substantial raising/imprinting on humans.
    Do you have any advice to offer me in this circumstance?
    Thank you!

    • @whifflingtit9240
      @whifflingtit9240 7 років тому

      There is no problem in getting a hand reared budgie, in fact if you want o have a budgie that you can handle daily hand-reared is preferable. Your budgie will likely enjoy the companionship of another bird no problem, just be sure to introduce them slowly and house them in separate cages at first if you have concerns.

    Thank you so so much for your informative animal videos. I especially think parrots are a serious topic because it is an animal who is misunderstood and neglected because people do not know what they are getting them self into. People think parrots are trainable and cuddly like a dog. it takes 5 to 7 hours daily to bond probably with a parrot depending on its individual needs and you can not go on a holiday without your parrot and that is for life. If you do break that rule you break the trust with your parrot an all hell is loose and it takes a very long time to mend the damage. I know for a certain medium to big size parrots is NOT for kids. They are too demanding and too high maidens. They can be very scary if they get angry stressed or if they get hormonal. The wounds they can inflicts can be very severe. at the same time, they can be very fragile if the guardian does not know what they are doing, as I said they are nothing like our domesticated dogs and cats, they speak a completely different language. Parrots are still wild animals and they still have very strong instincts and people sometimes forget they are tropical animals who live in the rainforest with high humidity so the climate is also a factor to consider. I say you can dominate a dog but you need to ask permission from a parrot, what goes against human nature. Big parrots seem to have an intelligence to a 3-5-year-old child and if you put your child in a cage that child would be scared for life it is the same for big parrots. They can get depressed just like us. Parrots also need between 9 and 12 hours rest. I have an African grey and she is with me 24-7 all year round except when I go shopping. When I go on holiday she is with me. This is my life commitment and I love love it. She can also be noisy what can annoy my neighbors but hey I am willing to take a hit for the team. ;)

    Hello animal wonders,
    I was wondering if you could make a What, Where, How specifically for Conures. I was thinking about getting a Pineapple Green-Cheeked Conure, but i'm not sure on how to take care of it. A video would be so helpful for me being a beginner with birds.
    Thank you!

    Are budgies easy to introduce? My local pet store says there is a 45% the two budgies will like each other. Although, I have seen from many other videos saying they are easy to introduce.

    Hello. Even with captions enabled, we hear you say to "Make sure the perches ARE directly above the food/water dishes." Shouldn't that be AREN'T? Doesn't the bird poop straight down?

    _Undulated_ grass parakeet? That explains the Norwegian word for the type of bird: _undulat_. Well, technically, the name probably comes from the Latin name for the species: _undulatus_.

      In dutch they are called ‘grasparkiet’, literally the translation of grass parkeet. The name Budgie made me clueless on what bird they meant 😂

    Hi Montana I have a question I live in Denver Colorado and during the summer I live my parakeets outside. I have 8 parakeets in a very large bird aviary 6 feet tall 7 feet wide 6 feet deep very nice flight area toys water fall for bath and its outside during winter I put them inside my sunroom because it snows here for about 6 months and 7 months is really cold now my question is what's the coldest temperature a parakeet can be outside right now it's on high 50s at night between 56 to 58 degrees during the day it's in the mid 80s should I start bringing them inside or should I wait around October time to bring them in when it gets really cold in fall and windy? I also have 14 zebra finches and 2 Cockatiels also in very large aviary outside

    Fun fact. Chickens are actually smart. This just came to mind when she was talking about the step up video. I taught a miniature chicken to step up. Also a Rhode Island Red. Those things are impossible to manage. I love chickens.

    So do you put a pot in the cage or do you put a couple branches inside the cage? What plant do you usually put inside Agent Peri's cage??

    Jessi, I just wanted to ask you a few questions. I like your suggestions, and love animal wonders. My parakeet doesn't like me to pet his back, even if I'm really soft. Also, he does really well stepping up, but I've tried putting my finger over his foot to keep him safe like you suggest in some of your videos, but he doesn't like it at all. Do you have any ideas on working with him on those two things?

    I have a question When you were mentioning the minimum size for 2 budgies. Is the length 30 inches while width and height are 18 inches? I would just like to know; And by the way, thank you for the amazing video on budgies it did help me with learning about them.

    I have 10 budgies. Previously I had 22 because they kept having babies.I keep them as aviary birds rather than as companions because I think they can be happier being more natural. But then I don’t get the love I need myself. They accept me, but they don’t interact with me as they do among themselves. Is this what I can expect? Or is there something I can do or provide that makes them play with me? Otherwise I am planning to get a single conure that I can play with personally.

    Budgies are to parrots what chihuahuas are to dogs.
    Whenever I needed to encourage mine to eat some new veggies I would just pretend to eat it myself and say "mmmm delicious!" It worked every time.

    How do I train my parakeet it's the same one . And I have had her for 2 weeks and she has gone on my finger once but then never again. I usually touch her feet and then like she picks up one and puts it on my finger but then she can't put up the other one so what do I do. Sometimes she lets me rub her belly sometimes but it's not always so if you have any tips please reply or if you can give me an idea of what to do now cuz I'm in a position that I don't know what to do

    My budgie doesn't know his native tongue. His songs are the ones he learned from my Cockatiel, and he has started to imitate my Canary as well. He starts screaming and making them scream with him as well and is constantly talking in his sleep.

    Hi Jessie! This video inspired me to get a bigger cage for my two wonderful budgies, and let me tell you, the new cage is fablous! I was sure they would like it, but I have one problem. My birds won't go to the new cage. My birds don't like to be handled, and I'm just started taming them. How can I respectfully and carefully transfer them to the new cage?
    I put the doors together for now, but they seem to avoid it. I took away food and some perches from the old cage just to lure them in to the new cage.
    WHAT CAN I DO?
