Recall training is going to be one of the first things I will learn to train my first parakeet if I get one. I don't want a budgie stuck in a cage all it's life. So recall training is imperative. So glad Blueberry is safe 😊
I've lost a bird who escaped and unfortunately never made it back. So glad that you got Blueberry back! I'm going to work on recall training with my birds.
I've been trying to help someone who lost her Amazon. It's been a month now and neither of us have seen him. He just learned to fly so I'm not sure if he's still alive with the birds of prey, the cold and the wind.
@@Cat-di9lg that is heartbreaking! How awesome are you for helping! Can I ask what part of the country you live. Amazon's you would think could be easier to find. I want to help!! I'll start by saying a prayer.💜✌
When Blueberry flew towards you, she seemed intended to, but she litteraly changed her mind - like, I am gonna do one more tree - it's fun. Blueberry-the nerve-wreaker.
Glad this had a spoiler of blueberry in shot talking about this happening at the beginning of the video, not something I wanted to find out the result either at the end of the video or a later one
This is one of the many things that sets you guys apart from all other professional bird people especially those very much in the public eye. You truly do it for the love and safety of parrots everywhere. Many people wouldn’t have shown this because their intent is all about impressing which is why you guys are so impressive. Just another reason for everyone to come be a part of BirdTricks. 👏Bravo.
Another Sherry w/some sense! 😆💗 lol Yes, I'd much rather learn from someone who is honest about the reality of owning Birds, and, how mistakes can happen even with the most experienced Bird owners, which is why training is so important! So glad I found this channel!
It can happen to any of us... right? I'd have melted to the GROUND and been a blubbering mess. You should not be embarrassed... shows us you're human 🙂💜
So glad you got blueberry back, this is why recall training is so important. I’m getting my first bird soon (a green cheek) and I will definitely be teaching them recall.
My green cheek was the best thing that could have ever happened. Such a perfect bird. We are still working on recall. He doesn't fly as much as I'd like him to and tends to walk everywhere. He was clipped when I got him almost 2 years ago. And he still is nervous to fly as much.
@@FeatheredFlock so I live in an apartment so he can't really fly outside directly. He has charged the door but he would have to make it through 3 doors (our house door, the staircase door and the door to outside) to make it outside flying. He cannot be on the floor because I have cats and a crawling baby. So he needs to fly from perch to perch instead of walk. He's making really good progress through. He's a bit stubborn and set in his ways.
Well my bird doesn't recall too me, but anytime he flies out of control, I just show him his cage and he will go straight back in or fly on top his cage. (He loves hanging out on top his cage, that's his favorite spot lol.)
I had the same thing happen with my Quaker, Bubba. Flew right over my head and out the door. I posted on Facebook & I was extremely lucky. He flew 8 miles south and landed on a high schooler who fell in love with him but was honest enough when he saw the post to bring him back. I feel so grateful.
OMG 50 years ago I a Blueberry twin, I did not know about recall but I was doing it. I could call him from different rooms in the house, he had a way to call me back, something looking like my name which my dad did hate at 5 a.m. :( One day IT happened, in a big city, I was sure to have lost him there were many trees around. After many attempts, I kind of gave up, then, my neighbor came to tell me that my bird was in her backward calling me!!! If you have a budgie practice recall. Nice job Jamie, I am so glad you have Blue back.
My budgie flew out the door and I followed him from tree to tree, he wouldnt come down, this went on for 2 days, finally I found him close to home hungry and he came home. We are both very lucky.
I love how much you love Blueberry. She is every bit as wonderful and loveable as a "real" parrot. Budgies deserve all the love and respect that big birds get
I was gutted when I lost my young budgie bertie, he managed like blueberry to squeeze through a small cracked window, sadly I had only had him a month and I've never seen him again. I still have two budgies, and have never let anything happen to them from the lesson learned. I'll never stop hoping bertie somehow landed somewhere safe, despite all my efforts to find him- and that someone else had the joy of his company
My partner recently accidentally let both of my cockatiels out while we were on vacation.I was instantly able to recall my male mid flight and put him back into the carrier. My female was so spooked she flew extremely high, I followed her from tree to tree for 3 days from sun up to sun down. She is recall trained and made multiple attempts to get back to me but unfortunately she got out during an extremely windy week. My poor baby is still gone, the group of free flyers I work with tell me to keep up hope and that birds are discovered to be found months after being lost but it’s pretty hard to keep hope. It’s been heartbreaking.
I have an aviary and we do flight training everyday, her food motivation was high. It was just a case where it didn’t matter how much I trained her, she didn’t have the skills to descend in wind.
I’m so glad Capri asked about clipping her wings and Dave had that beautiful teaching moment with her ❤️ I’d also probably have the urge to clip her wings after something scary like that and would have to remember that it would only make things worse. A great lesson for all of us really! And shows a lot of care and concern on Capri’s part!
@@VietCakes It's much better to teach a bird to fly because it has the skills to come back. If you clip a bird and it gets outside, it can still fly with a gust of wind. If you don't clip your bird, you teach it to fly to your hand, on command, on the first call of its name, which is recall, if you desensitize it to the outdoors by harness training them, if you teach it to descend and ascend from great heights, and to curve, it would be so much easier, less stressful, and more likely for you to get your bird back.
OMG....how devastating to have thought Blueberry was gone forever! Sooo glad you were able to get him back! Because you have stressed before how recall is important, I no longer clip my GCC's wing and am working on recall, I want us to be prepared WHEN (as Dave would say) it happens to us!!!
good training! My parakeet “mustard”, flew away when I was 12. He had a favorite bell he loved and wore like a hat half the time. When he flew away, he was gone, out of sight. I couldn’t imagine not having him, so I got the bell and walked the green belts in our neighborhood, ringing it, I heard him chirp and followed it, climbed a pine tree and he came to the bell and went home with me!❤️❤️❤️❤️🌈
About ten years ago I got a call from a friend who rescued a "yellow" bird in the park and wanted to give it to me, since I had parakeets. I was expecting to see a canary, but it was a parakeet. He had the cutest personality, and I miss him. He passed away last year. But, I often thought of his previous owners and how devastated they must have been when he flew off.
Because of watching your channel I worked on recall training with my green cheek and learned about treat value. I never intended to free fly her. But one day accidentally she flew outside and landed in a tree. I got her favorite tree out and called for her and she flew right down to me! Thank goodness for your channel, else I would have never thought about recall training my bird!
This past Saturday my step daughter got a new baby budgie, 10 weeks old. An accident happened and thr bird flew away. A day and a half later my neighbor messaged me that the bird we had lost was in her kitchen. I was so relieved that this baby was going to be ok. He is home now with his family family doing very well. He's such a calm, sweet bird.
I don't have any birds, but I like that the lady isn't one of those annoying "hi guys, blah blah blah" UA-camrs. Blueberry is awfully cute, and I like that she used this experience to be helpful. So, here is a token like and subscribe 🐦 ❤
I got home from work one day and couldn’t find my budgie anywhere. Someone had come in and left his cage open and my bedroom door open. I didn’t know where he’d be or how long he was gone for I just saw a window open in the kitchen facing a thick forest/bush area and started looking there. For the next 2 days I went out there morning till dark looking for him with a speaker blaring budgie contact call noises. On the second evening I started hearing him replying to the speakers and managed to spot him 2 stories up a tree. We had a great bond (he was probably starving too) so when he spotted me he instantly tried to fly down and got swept to the neighbours yard. This happened 3 times till eventually he landed in a tree I could actually climb. Im terrified of heights but I did it to get my little guy. Every single day from the next day I’ve done at least a couple minutes of recall and upping the difficulty of flight training (descending, ascending, turning corners, boomerangs, everything I can think of) also have built an aviary so he can get some wind practice. This all should of happened long ago before the accident, I’m ALWAYS so incredibly careful but I have learnt when you live with other people it doesn’t matter how careful you are anything can happen. Glad your little blue is safe. It’s so scary, I was literally balling my eyes out searching for him in the bush.
my Amazon I had for 35 yrs passed the day before Halloween. Coming and listening to your stories and seeing your flock helps me. I have two others, another amazon and a female eclectus but they are more bonded to others in the house. Max was MY baby. You have helped us so much with taking good care of our birds. Thank you
My quaker escaped and flew into a tree. I couldn't recall her and she ended outside overnight. The next day a neighbor was driving by and stopped her car when her little boy saw her. She hopped right in and went home with them. They took her home and put her in a hamster cage and called the ASPCA to report her missing. I called them to see if she had been found and low and behold she had. You are complaining about 4 hours and I was worried about 36 hours. Love your videos! What a great handler your daughter is becoming.
You’re so lucky that you did such a good job training Blueberry to come when she is called. I had a male budgie named Henry that had the same coloring as Blueberry. He took off out the door when I was cleaning his cage. I was heartbroken when I couldn’t retrieve him. I saw a Crow grab him.😢
We attract the things we fear most. If it happens again remember to breath as we tend to hold our breath when we are in a stressful situation. I am sure that you felt the same with each of your birds the first time you gave them the gift of freeflight. I would like to thank you and Blueberry for proving that success comes from good training and what is possible.
Wow. Compelling and heart wrenching. 4 minutes? JUST 4 minutes? No that was 240 seconds, each second an eternity. I felt every one of your tears and fears. It is the hidden cost of caring, but I’d never ever give up caring, no matter how traumatic the circumstances. Blueberry is beautiful, and so is her human family. Jamie, hope you got some quality recuperation, STAT! Thank you for sharing and for loving these wonderful creatures.
Firstly most importantly I am glad your Budgie Blueberry is safe again . The videos with Blueberry have made me think I can have a pet in my first floor one bedroom flat. Thank you for showing this video because it now has made something to consider with making my first floor one bed flat, bird friendly. My flat when I bought it had the doors between living room, front door and kitchen taken out to create more space by the previous owners and I never replaced them I am going to have to find a solution to create a quick but solid barrier so my pet bird. If get one does not fly out when I answer the door. I really would like a pet and I don't think it is fair to keep a cat or a dog cooped up in a flat for 10-11 hours in a day while I go to work I also don't want a fish tank I want a pet I can interact with too. But then I saw your videos and a few of other peoples and saw Budgies are really cool fun and interactive little pets and I thought. That might be the perfect pet for me. So I am doing my research first. While doing it I am going to implement as much as I can into my flat to make it not only space saving still but bird friendly. This might take years. But at least if you plan to have a pet companion you can spend years enjoying researching how to care for them and what safe environment they need first. I won't rush into this but thank you again for all your videos I love them :)
Years ago I had the coolest aviary outside that I had 2 budgies in. 2 budgies became 10. I had no intention of breeding them. Didn't even do anything special to make that possible. It just happened. There was a separate enclosure for my finches. I can attest to how quickly they move. We had 2 doors in n out. Thank goodness because there were a couple times that they got into the entry/exit. I know that panic that washes over you. 😲 I hope to one day recreate that aviary. It was during the time that my chronic health issues started. I had a chair in there and I have such fond memories of just hanging out with them. It was definitely my happy place. I'm so glad you had a positive outcome Jami. 💙 Budgies are such quick little buggers.
Thank you for this video. My budgie had good recall, and I take him outside once in a while in a backpack. One day he got outside though and flew into a tree with a crow's nest in it. The crows got so angry and he was so scared that he wouldn't come down and the sun was setting. Couldn't find him the next morning. Posted all over facebook. He flew 2.5km, to the other side of a river, and likely landed on a lady's shoulder out of hunger, and she took him in and brought him to the local animal shelter, and an employee saw my facebook posts, and we were reunited after four days of crying and stress. Sad the lady never left any contact information for me to thank her. So I'd say on top of recall training, make sure your budgie is comfortable meeting new people! If my budgie never asked her for help, I would've never gotten him back.
That was hysterical with you standing there and the bird looks like she's coming right to you and she goes right by you. The look on your face was priceless. Sorry I know you were stressed out but that was funny. And you got her back
Your very lucky.I list my parrot when we went out for a bike ride...nothing out of the ordinary..but this one time I hit a bump..and off he flew.I went up on a rooftop and he would not come back.He was my buddy for 4 years.Blessings to you and Blueberry.
We rescued a budgie same color as yours! Long story but found her on a tree branch. After a month or so we got another one to be company for her/him. They are so cute but not trained. So glad blueberry came to you!
A few months ago my lutino tiel flew out of the garage! We chased him down the street and he flew into the neighbors yard. Fortunately the neighbors let us in their backyard as soon as we told them what was happening! I am so thankful that we found him and that my little baby is safe.
I'm so glad Blueberry is ok. Again, this is why I love your channel so much. You don't pretend you are perfect and you help people learn from your personal experiences. And the wing clipping thing is so true. I know someone who just lost a parrotlet that way, he flew into the yard, wings clipped, and a hawk swooped down and grabbed him.
My baby has been gone 3 days now. I’ve been out day and night (literally like 3am) calling and yelling and playing budgie videos. I can’t stop crying. It’s been raining here every single day and cold. 🥺 it’s so hard to stay positive when you hear NOTHING.
This is the moment you should be proud of your training skills. You've taught your other birds with a purpose but Blueberry was taught out of habit & love. While her getting out was an accident, her recall was exactly as expected! Proof that your methods work with any size bird. Excellent!
Wow, we haven’t recalled trained our Budgie, we get her excited to come to us but it’s 50/50. Her wings aren’t clipped because honestly if god forbid something happened she would be able to fly away during an emergency. But we definitely need to start training her with this!!
Glad you could get her back... I have been having nightmares about losing my birds this way for years. Having built trust and having a good relationship with your cheeky little flier sure makes the difference. Phew
1 of my budgies flew out the door a few days ago He’s not recall trained He was outside for 1 night and was found a day later on the ground barely alive Thankfully someone had found him and saw are post on him on Facebook He’s now with his companions lol
So happy for you guys. I hang strips of orange material (with doorknob holes cut into them) either side of the entrance doors when my bird is out. Its a clear reminder to myself, and visitors that he is out of his cage. Generally he is good with recall, but not always. Works brilliantly. Hope this helps someone.
Last week my lovebird flew away accidentally and that was really scary, luckily she know how to recall, and everything was fine. She then had tons of treats after that 😂.
Thanks for sharing. I put a bird feeder out last winter for the wild birds when a blue parakeet showed up this summer. I was able to catch her with all things- a butterfly net. Belle is now a part of the family. Still working on gaining trust- moving at her pace.
That feeling of panic just manages to override everything else.... *way-too-familiar sick feeling* 😱 I’m glad that you not only got her back, but that you have an amazing support system around you. ❤️👨👩👧
Omg I soo glad she's okay! When I read the title, I thought she was lost forever! Thanks to you, my budgie is completely flight trained and im working on my new one now! I never have the intention of letting them outside but I think its so important to have that in case of a scenario like this one! It does wonders when trying to get them back in their cage as well 😂 thank you for sharing this! We all make mistakes! But with eachothers help, we will get past them 😊💜
I have 3 budgies, 2 year old English exhibit and 2 little babies that look like blueberry , would never clip , rather them be able to fly just in case , the two babies are both stepping up on my hand for millet together , which is making me very happy, glad you got little blue berry back from her little adventure :)
That must of been frightening. It happened to me and I never told anyone. My Lovebird Sprinkles got out. It was terrifying. I always here that you should stay calm, not me as I was hysterical, I couldn't help it. He flew out the door and I ran out and was calling him and hoping he did not go far. I ran back in to get millet spray. I called him and he came back and landed on my head and then I had a meltdown. So many things went through my head in the few minutes that he was out. So yes it can happen to anyone and I am extra cautious and it still happened. Glad I could share my story, I feel better now.
Good advice & warning. Watching everything I can before getting my new feathered friends. Birds need love as much as Cats & Dogs. I did shed a tear for you😢
If it wasnt for you guys and stressing recall I'd never have gotten my bird back the first time, he stayed in a tree for litterally 24 hours we couldn't find him until I heard his flock call and used it to to flow him he did what Blueberry did by flying by me. I wanted to cry! But then he was starved and decided mommy's hand and millet was a lot better. The second time was all my fault I walked out the door and didnt know he was on my shoulder but I got him within 20 minutes that time, it was dusk and he got scared by our barn cat so he flew right to me. Now we call SCUTTLE IS OUT! before we open the door, my mom makes sure I got eyes on him or hes with me before she opens the door and I always cage him before I go out the door just to be sure. And I agree it's the worst minutes of your life! I wasnt even that worried when my dogs get out of the yard haha
Had parakeets most of my life. Never had one make it outside but this is so true on training your birds like this. My current bird is a rescued ringneck dove. I discovered her in a hotel parking lot. I wasn't familiar with doves but she seemed like a pet rather then a wild bird. We had parakeets that would come when called so I thought why not try. I snapped my finger and heald them out and she came straight to me out of a tree. We had a parakeet we were traveling with so my mom went and got his food to give her as she was attacking my mouth for food. After eatting she flew away and disappeared. Next day I decided if I saw her again I would take her. She was with a flock of sparrows when I came out and they flew away but she went to a brick wall. She saw me walking to her and I heald out my hand and she came straight to me again. She happily went inside with me. No one reported her missing so ten years later she is happy and healthy after traveling back and forth from AL to NY countless times and has done a bit of camping in a tent. I don't know who taught her to come when called but it saved her life.
Last year our budgie got loose on our street. We had him in our sights for awhile but he took one more flight and disappeared. We posted his picture on a few lost pets sites as a last effort. 4 days later, we got a call that he had been found 35 km away in another city and was brought in to a shelter. In those 4 days there was a major thunderstorm as well. I drove out to the shelter and got him home safely. Nobody thought we would ever get him back and I know he had been through a lot because he was very quiet for days after. But to add to this woman's point, we did teach him how to forage for food in the house and we believe that skill helped him to survive in that time. He knew how to look for food. As such, I highly recommend that you teach your bird the same thing just in case he ever gets out.
So glad you shared your experience. We found our lost conure, and your download really helped. Vantage point and listening for calls got us our conure back; we heard the native birds hassling him, but he was completely silent. He flew to the outdoor rescue budgie cage, and stepped up for me. Training to the rescue....phew!
Thank you so much for sharing this. It’s very eye opening that this situation will happen and it’s just a matter of when and making sure you’re prepared. This is making me step up my game on training as well. Thank you!
My budgie is one I found by the side of the road, he just let me pick him up, and it's now been 2 years and he's really tame and comes when we call. I have nightmares about him getting out , and losing him. So glad your story had a happy ending x
That happened to me last week, my 8 month old Quaker parrot got out, we live on a lake in Florida with some huge cypress trees, well Poncho decided to fly to the tallest tree about 80 foot up. I was amazed at how fast that little shit could fly but also scared, the lake we live on is a bird sanctuary and is inhabited by Osprey Hawks, Kite Hawks, Red Tail Hawks, and Bald Eagles. All I could think about is one of those Hawks seeing this little parrot as a quick meal. Thank god we have been working on recall training, he's not very responsive to verbal commands but does respond to a police whistle, I blew the whistle and he flew towards me but landed on our house roof about 10 feet away, and then he said "I'm a pretty boy" and starts laughing. My girlfriend grab some millet from the house and when Poncho saw that he flew right to her arm. That was scary but a good learning curve of how important it is to train your birds in recalling them. These Quaker parrots are incredibly smart, Poncho followed our Border Collie through the doggy door to stretch his wings....
Jamie, thank you so much for sharing this extremely vulnerable experience with us. I can’t even imagine the panic and fear you must have been feeling. Thank you for being humble enough to share so we can learn. No need to be embarrassed, like Dave says... it’s not IF they get out it’s WHEN. This is so important to know about!! I am watching your small bird videos and plan to take your budgie course in preparation for the budgies I plan to adopt hopefully this summer. Lastly, I was on the edge of my seat with happy\fearful tears in my eyes throughout this entire video!! Even though I knew Blueberry was in the room with you, your story telling had me captivated! Great video, so grateful for the happy ending 💙🦜
Jaimie, My lovebird (out door recall trained) flew out of the parked car yesterday. Felt the same as you describe here the whole time, but kept holding on to "the training". 30 minutes later of show-off flying and contact calls, he came back. I attribute that to that I take him everywhere with me and the "training", just like you are taking Blueberry with you. Thank you for sharing.
This was an eye opener. I have a budgie; I’m getting a cockatiel soon. I self tamed my budgie and I did a little recall training at the start but I stopped and didn’t think much of it. I’m going to start again definitely as well as with my future cockatiel too.
I can't imagine the stress of having to tell Capri let alone telling UA-cam!!! I'm so glad you shared this and I'm sure it will be helpful for so many people.
Thank you for sharing, this is one of my many fears and I'm very careful when my Hagi is out but accidents can happen I do his training every day calling him from his perch working on ascending and descending flying. I'm so happy you got your Blueberry back I would have been a mess as well while trying to remain calm 😖
OMG....OMG....I got up early because I know what time you post in the morning! Jamieleigh..YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE, and THERE IS NOTHING TO BE EMBARRASSED ABOUT! You freaked out, good girl! You were surrounded by loved ones and good friends. And, because of you being an angel, like I’ve told you before, Blue was just being a bird, Blue came back. AND Blue is a VERY, BERRY, well trained bird. Now, I can breathe again! Love to all of you! Blue is safe because of her training. Thank you to you and Dave and Capri. Remember, birds have wings, and you, Dave and Capri have wings. Your flock will always come back to you. They hang with their own kind! 😘😘 💙💙💙💙 Love, Nana Janet
After having an incident where my Goffin flew off and was lost for 40 minutes- I definitely understand that it felt like eternity! 🤯I'm so grateful for all my family and friends that were willing to help, but thankfully my mom heard Cheeky's blender noises. She somehow got to the middle of a bush and was so terrified she just hid. I got a lot of nasty fear bites digging her out of the bush. Working on recall and desensitization training, but man does Cheeky bite first and ask questions later during hormone season. 😬😭 The comment of when vs if your bird gets out terrifys me. I'm the worst trainer, both my birds won't listen. 😫💔
Blue Barry...won't leave you.....you know this THOW...the bond is to good....the bird love you lots you can see that....💚🐦 it All in your head..take it out more
Yikes. Sadly I've experienced an escaped bird who also was budgie. I live in an apartment block on 12th storey so when I got down there was no trace of the bird =( and yeah when you get panicked you get so much adrenaline everything seems like in slow-motion. Stress affects your time prespective greatly.
We lost our Tadoshi yesterday he flew right out the door when my kids were bringing groceries in.We tried putting his cage out last night and today been hoping he would see it we tried calling him, making his noises, and nothing,I swear this is killing me more than my kids. He was such an amazing bird and was trained to do the cutest things.I have sobbed all day!!
When I was young I had a budeie that got out and up in a tree. Thankfully he was terrified of the leaves and did not move. Some year ago I took in a budgie that was found outside and we never found the owner.
How scary! I know someone who accidentally shut the door on their budgie because they panicked. I'm so glad this story had a happy ending!!! Thank you for sharing. We all must live and learn constantly.
We had a similar (but no where near extreme) situation a few months back, my blue budgie Sydney escaped her cage and flew to an open window, (it was one of the ones that opens horizontally) and she hung upside down off the window frame, frozen, after around 30 seconds she flew back into our house, because of a sudden gust.
This shows how important recall training is! Whew! I almost had a heart attack!😰😰
Ohhhh me too!!! You all most lost her OMG!!!!!!😱😱😱😱😱😰😰😰😰😨😨😨😰😰😨😨😨
Recall training is going to be one of the first things I will learn to train my first parakeet if I get one. I don't want a budgie stuck in a cage all it's life. So recall training is imperative. So glad Blueberry is safe 😊
So glad berry to the blue is safe!
It’s weird seeing such a small bird on your finger! Lmao. I’m used to seeing much larger birds on this channel.
Budgies
I've lost a bird who escaped and unfortunately never made it back. So glad that you got Blueberry back! I'm going to work on recall training with my birds.
Same
I've been trying to help someone who lost her Amazon. It's been a month now and neither of us have seen him. He just learned to fly so I'm not sure if he's still alive with the birds of prey, the cold and the wind.
Same bro 😢😔 why did it happen?
Same. Living surrounded by miles of forest is nice and all, but it makes finding a lost bird virtually impossible
Lol! I think you are right!
that tuck was amazing!
Correct!
Wrecker
@@jacobattias8401 Now I get it. Thank you. I learn more english, as I comment on YT. And a lot of other stuff.
Glad this had a spoiler of blueberry in shot talking about this happening at the beginning of the video, not something I wanted to find out the result either at the end of the video or a later one
Agreed
Like Carolin lol
I agree I don’t want to be stressed wondering if the bird is safe or not.
VERY considerate of her. Other channels would have hyped it up for drama. I'm glad she's such a kind person.
Lol Blueberry lands on the door, "Mom, let's go inside. This is too much out here."
👏Bravo.
Well said Sherry!💜✌
Ya it's so ironic that the people who are so worried about impressing people are some of the least impressive of all
Totally agree Sherry!! 😊
Aw, Sherry, beautifully said & so True
🌺🐦💙💕🌿
Another Sherry w/some sense! 😆💗 lol
Yes, I'd much rather learn from someone who is honest about the reality of owning Birds, and, how mistakes can happen even with the most experienced Bird owners, which is why training is so important! So glad I found this channel!
It can happen to any of us... right? I'd have melted to the GROUND and been a blubbering mess. You should not be embarrassed... shows us you're human 🙂💜
Would have been right there with ya sister✌
The audacity of Blue to just absolutely ditch Jamie was hilarious
So glad you got blueberry back, this is why recall training is so important. I’m getting my first bird soon (a green cheek) and I will definitely be teaching them recall.
@@FeatheredFlock exiting! Good luck🙂
I was trying to train them but mone escaped
Well my bird doesn't recall too me, but anytime he flies out of control, I just show him his cage and he will go straight back in or fly on top his cage.
(He loves hanging out on top his cage, that's his favorite spot lol.)
I had the same thing happen with my Quaker, Bubba. Flew right over my head and out the door. I posted on Facebook & I was extremely lucky. He flew 8 miles south and landed on a high schooler who fell in love with him but was honest enough when he saw the post to bring him back. I feel so grateful.
This shows what bonding , training and communication does for you and your 🐦
OMG 50 years ago I a Blueberry twin, I did not know about recall but I was doing it.
Wow! Amazing 😍 👍
I’m glad you were able to find him!
So sorry I hope you get her back ❤️
SkyLoganScott So sorry to hear about your bird. Saying a prayer for you that she’ll return home soon. God bless! 🙏🏻💕🐦
@Zorea Bradshaw yea why tf?!
Fingers and tail feathers crossed
I’m so glad Capri asked about clipping her wings and Dave had that beautiful teaching moment with her ❤️
I’d also probably have the urge to clip her wings after something scary like that and would have to remember that it would only make things worse. A great lesson for all of us really! And shows a lot of care and concern on Capri’s part!
What did she say about wing clipped?
@@VietCakes It's much better to teach a bird to fly because it has the skills to come back. If you clip a bird and it gets outside, it can still fly with a gust of wind. If you don't clip your bird, you teach it to fly to your hand, on command, on the first call of its name, which is recall, if you desensitize it to the outdoors by harness training them, if you teach it to descend and ascend from great heights, and to curve, it would be so much easier, less stressful, and more likely for you to get your bird back.
Wow! So glad that Blueberry knows how to come back! One time, my budgie’s outdoor cage got knocked over and he got out for *3 whole months*
OMG....how devastating to have thought Blueberry was gone forever! Sooo glad you were able to get him back! Because you have stressed before how recall is important, I no longer clip my GCC's wing and am working on recall, I want us to be prepared WHEN (as Dave would say) it happens to us!!!
I really love how you care about small birds too. Budgies are really special.
good training!
The bird don't give a shit about you that's why it flew away.
My conure flew out my door a month or so ago, but recall training worked! She came right back when I called. She was only out a minute or two 🙂
My conure got out and I was just in the middle of recall training and I never found her
I don't have any birds, but I like that the lady isn't one of those annoying "hi guys, blah blah blah" UA-camrs.
It’s so scary, I was literally balling my eyes out searching for him in the bush.
sounds like someone in your home doesnt like your bird :(
This proves that you are good in training birds
my Amazon I had for 35 yrs passed the day before Halloween.
What a great handler your daughter is becoming.
ohh noo. Good thing u had her trained☺️
They usually don't fly that far away but when there is wind, the hope is lost... So glad that you guys could get Blueberry bac. Such a cute bird.
WHEW. You got her back! That’s a miracle. I’m so very relieved for you all! How scary.
You’re so lucky that you did such a good job training Blueberry to come when she is called.
I had a male budgie named Henry that had the same coloring as Blueberry.
He took off out the door when I was cleaning his cage.
I was heartbroken when I couldn’t retrieve him.
I saw a Crow grab him.😢
I had a crow chase my cockatiel luckly i could get him back😢
We attract the things we fear most.
Paul Snell You sound like an ideal pet owner bro! Good for you 👍 The budgie you get one day will be a lucky 🍀 one.
You are only human. The fact that you recovered her in 4 minutes is amazing.
My dove flew away before i had them all in an aviary and the only thing than had made her come back was the cooing of her mate💗
Aww🥺
I love that this sweetboy is SO important to you all! What a doll! Folks need to know that they are they are precious and treat them accordingly. 🐾
Blueberry: "chill girl, i was just getting some fresh air"
Glad you got blueberry back. I cannot believe all of that happened in 4 minutes!
I follow a few channels that own and show their mistakes along with their successes. They are always my favorites.
I hope to one day recreate that aviary. It was during the time that my chronic health issues started. I had a chair in there and I have such fond memories of just hanging out with them. It was definitely my happy place.
I'm so glad you had a positive outcome Jami. 💙 Budgies are such quick little buggers.
I had my rose breasted cockatoo get out for four days three nights with the help of everybody in our small town we got him back
Thank you for this video.
And you got her back
Nothing to be embarrassed!
It just make u like all of us! Thanks for sharing❤
I love that she was in a tree like."MOM I DID A THING!"
MOM DID YOU KNOW THIS HUGE TOY WAS OUT HERE?!?
Awwww, Blueberry is so adorable. Sweet how she kisses you and comes back when called. I'm glad you got her back when she escaped.
Thank you for sharing this. It is so important to let people know that this can happen to anyone, even the most experienced people.
Your very lucky.I list my parrot when we went out for a bike ride...nothing out of the ordinary..but this one time I hit a bump..and off he flew.I went up on a rooftop and he would not come back.He was my buddy for 4 years.Blessings to you and Blueberry.
that was so scary! i can't imagine. so glad that so many people were there to help you.
awww, blueberry you're the cutest!
We rescued a budgie same color as yours!
Long story but found her on a tree branch.
After a month or so we got another one to be company for her/him. They are so cute but not trained. So glad blueberry came to you!
And this shows the importance of recall training 🙃
A few months ago my lutino tiel flew out of the garage! We chased him down the street and he flew into the neighbors yard. Fortunately the neighbors let us in their backyard as soon as we told them what was happening! I am so thankful that we found him and that my little baby is safe.
Blueberry's trying to tell you she wants to freefly🤣
hahhaha imagine them training blueberry to freefly along side their macaws lamooo
@@yutingxue8569 macaws: ooh tasty snack *MUNCH*
AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
GOOD
This is the moment you should be proud of your training skills.
Phew
1 of my budgies flew out the door a few days ago
He’s not recall trained
He was outside for 1 night and was found a day later on the ground barely alive
Thankfully someone had found him and saw are post on him on Facebook
He’s now with his companions lol
And why are you saying *'lol'*
Barley alive? What was wrong? The birds lively now?
@@animallover5626 Maybe he either got hurt by a another bird or he fell from a high place.. :( but I'm glad he's alive :)
@@animallover5626 yes he is alive
He was barely alive in the morning as it was a cold British night and wasn’t used to being outside
@@fading_from_life5711 because the first thing he did when we put him back in the flock was kiss and snuggle with his girlfriend
WOW! Well done Blueberry..
That feeling of panic just manages to override everything else.... *way-too-familiar sick feeling* 😱 I’m glad that you not only got her back, but that you have an amazing support system around you. ❤️👨👩👧
17:15 blueberry kisses back that just made my heart totally melt!💙💙💙
Omg I soo glad she's okay! When I read the title, I thought she was lost forever! Thanks to you, my budgie is completely flight trained and im working on my new one now! I never have the intention of letting them outside but I think its so important to have that in case of a scenario like this one! It does wonders when trying to get them back in their cage as well 😂 thank you for sharing this! We all make mistakes! But with eachothers help, we will get past them 😊💜
I'm glad Blueberry's okay. I once losted my bird outdoors. It was a terrible experience.😔
Glad she came back. Very brave of you to share this horrible experience.
That's so scary I'm glad he's okay
Good girl, Jamie, great training!
lol 😇💕
Also, i think its cool how you shared this event with us @BirdTricks. :)
Thank you for this video ♥️

I live in an apartment block on 12th storey so when I got down there was no trace of the bird =(
and yeah when you get panicked you get so much adrenaline everything seems like in slow-motion.
😨😅
I felt for blueberry wanting to be free and have family but I see you share love.
