Here's how I see things as an owner of 2 Salomon, 2 Instinct and 1 Black Diamond running vest. First, a lot of brands copy Salomon's design which is a testimony to how good it is (which cannot be said for all their products). The same cannot be said about Inov-8 as some of their products are hit-and-miss with occasional hits. In the case of comparison with the Adv Skin Set 12, this particular vest has seen several iterations, each of which being better than its predecessor. Also, this happens to be one of Salomon's best running vests. I'll explain why - it has extremely large volume for its size and weight, it's reasonably breathable, its bouncing is next to nothing - you can always find a perfect fit, the stretch pockets are segmented and hold a lot of stuff plus there are zip pockets in front of the flask pockets, its main compartment opens with a zip so you don't have to stuff things in and have to pull everything out in order to get to an item on the bottom, it has great pole attachment, it also supports the custom pole quiver (which I also have and it's awesome) and last but not least, doesn't smell even after prolonged use and a lot of sweating. The things I would change about the Adv Skin Set 12 are the width of the flask pockets - they are too narrow as well as the padding on the back of the soft flasks which, for some reason irritates my skin. Other than that, I think the Adv Skin Set 12 is superior to the Inov-8 vest in every way.
I totally agree about the Salomon Adv Skin 12 set, I'm not sure you've watched the channel before but the Salomon Adv Skin 12 set has been my go to vest for years. I've also made a full in-depth review on the channel of the Salomon vest 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 🙏
+1 for reviewing the new Rab vest line. Picked up the 2L vest for summer training warm weather runs. Love it, though Salomon remains my true mountain kit
Thanks for the review - really interesting, but I'm not sure it's enough to turn me away from Salomon which is my front runner at the moment. Any plans to review the new packs from Rab or Mammut? I'd be interested to see how they stack up, coming from brands that don't have as much of a running focus...
Had the previous version which was great, although some pockets are hard to access when bottles full. Upgraded to this one now, only £105 on sale already and it is a massive improvement. Used fully loaded for a test and perfect. Using it next week in The Pyrenees for the 55k PDA at Val D'aran. Never used Salomon so cannot compare, just prefer to support a UK based company.
@@richt3993 Thanks for asking! Brutal climbing which took me 12 hours, hell of an experience. Pack was faultless, easy access, totally comfortable, no regrets in purchasing.
The 360 degree pocket isnt a patch on Salomons. The side pockets are much more shallow and feel less secure. Ive run a mountain ultra and had no issues BUT i was regularly checking items were below the top of the mesh The rear section of the 360 is very tight and i couldnt put a jacket in this section when fully loaded. Having had the Adv Skin 12 in the past i would absolutely buy the Salomon over this model.
The Inov8 vests are too tight across the neck for me. The vests ride up and chase up my trapezius right up against the neck. I have that issue with a lot of vests though so it's probably my particular type shape.
Great video! Q: where did you store your phone? Some vests now have a dedicated waterproof pocket, which I really appreciate. Cheers for the awesome vids, keep em coming 👍
I have a 5 year old version of the 2 in 1 10 litre but after watching this I wonder if I don’t need so much storage?? I’m working up to my first 100 miler next year and if this will store everything I’ll need maybe I’ll upgrade to this 8 litre… or do I go for the new 2 in one? 😂
Thank you! I appreciate the video! Is there any chance you could tell me what little dry bag you use to go in the main compartment? I’ve looked all over Amazon and allot of them get bad reviews, also I’d have no idea what litre to get, there’s a video right there 😊 Thanks for great content 👍
I would actually say the Salomon vest is softer when it comes to the materials so I think it would still cause you issues. It's tricky to run with a vest on bare skin, although Liga uses hear Salomon Adv Skin 12 set with a vest and she doesn't have any issues? Have you tried using vaseline? 🤔
Yeah I just really want the option to wear a sports bra with a hydration pack. Yes I've used antichafe cream but sometimes I get chafing in spots that I missed 😆 My old Nathan pack has softer materials and hasn't caused chafing. I upgraded to the Salomon pack but not happy with it. Thank you for your thorough review..it looks like a really nice pack!
We own a few and I use mine every day, summer and winter for over 3 years and I have zero problems with fabric or stichining. Compare to my Nathan and Ultimate direction, Salomon smokes them away. I tried almost every brand on a market out there except for Harrier or OMM and none ever fitted even close as well as Salomon vests. All our athletes in our club own Salomon 12 and none ever had a problem with durability of the fabric or stichting either and there was only issue with the plastic cinch cords which I believe was resolved.
It does have a lot of similarities to the Salomon Adv Skin 12 set 👍 Obviously, Salomon are leading the way when it comes to running hydration vests so other brands are always going to be keeping a close eye on what they're doing 🤔 Thanks for watching 🙏
Salomon are the market leaders when it comes to running hydration vest so it's no surprise other brands are copying what there do Richard. Infact every brand that makes a hydration running vest is copying Salomon because they were the frist brand to develop one 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏

Great riew, very complete. Loved the bloopers. Run safe!

Been waiting for this review to buy a new vest. Thanks!
No worries Jason, hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching 👍😊

Great review as always.
Think to buy this one and compare my adv skin 12 by Salomon.
The front lock seems great.
easy enough to add some velcro to the back pocket, great review 👍

How did the pack fare in the race (and how did YOU fare?)?
@@richt3993 Thanks for asking! Brutal climbing which took me 12 hours, hell of an experience. Pack was faultless, easy access, totally comfortable, no regrets in purchasing.
Where you can buy it for 105 pounds
Thanks again Lloyd. Have you ever reviewed any OMM products, I couldn’t see any.
The pro 5 version is £65 from the innov8 online shop at the moment!😮

I've been putting my phone in the big side mesh stuff pocket Nick 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙏
Loyd
I'd have to find a way to tuck those loose strap ends away. That would do my head in! The bottle bungees look better than the Salomon ones though.
After owning the pro 5 I’d never get a inov 8 vest again I’m liking my UD vest at the moment
Seems like a lot of brands are copying the salomon design: this inov8 one, the adidas terrex, the nnormal one,...
I have a 5 year old version of the 2 in 1

You could definitely fit all the kit you'd need for a 100 miler in the Ultra Pac Pro 👍
Hope this helps and good luck with your training and the race 😊

@@7symi I've already featured my dry bag in several videos 👍 It's a 4lt sea to summit dry bag, hope this helps 😊
I’ll go look them up! Thanks Loyd 🙏🏻
Between this and the Salomon 12, which one would you grab off your shelf for a run?
Always the Salomon Adv 12 set Patrick. I’ve run lots of miles in lots of different running vests and pack and nothing comes close 👍
@@Run4Adventure - Thanks Loyd - just had my Inov8 fail on me so looking for a replacement - going to give the Salomon a go.
@@patrickwalkington7512 No problem, hope you enjoy it 👍
The Salomon adv 12 caused chafing when I wore a tank top. Is the inov8 material softer? Do you think it would cause chafing on bare skin?

so is it Better than Salomon ADV Skin 12 Set?
It's very close between the two vests but I still prefer the fit of my Salomon Adv Skin 12 👍
Thanks for watching 🙏
Sick of salomon packs, they fit great but the durability is awful. So many times seams have come unstitched.

Looks like Inov8 have basically copied Salomon.
