The oil soak is either going to work or it's not. It will work with original finish parts, but if you have a silver/gray frame or slide that has obviously been reparked, the oil soak isn't going to work at all.
Well I’m an old soldier retired after 22 years in, the Army does not do a good job of maintaining them after we turn them in. I’m looking forward to getting a call or email from the CMP I sent my paperwork 3 weeks ago, for being a rack grade it looks really good plus I love the fact it has some character to it.
I owned an original WW-I Colt M-1911, US ARMY made in 1917 that I paid $325.00 in 1986 from Gun dealer in Twin city, MN aresnal. The gun was in outstanding condition. People like this gun compared to CMP rack grade that I brought two months ago for 1250.00 was a reworked and refinished WW-II A1. During Vietnam Conflect we have M-1911-A1 verious factory with new slide send to IDF and left a lots of them in Nam. It must be the same firearms that I saw in service in Vietnam and only costmoline required for preserve and we have weapon oil in green cans that I brought from surplus store in 1962 for lube.
@@cornfromajar3222 I collected Colt M-1911 and there are currently 250K in circulation in different shape. When I was employed as a DoD contractor in MA and Connectucut long time ago, I brought these Colt M-1911 from ex gun maker. This type of firearms were send as a foriegn aids to SE Asian country back in 1950. You can get one for about $25.00 in 1965 from black market with a box of 230 grains that sold for $4.24 a box in 1965 unn the US.
Recently purchased my Round #4 CMP 1911 FIELD grade. Knew the chances of getting a GI frame and slide were slim to none. Rolled the dice and received what could have passed for a RACK grade with contract slide, worn out Barrell, sand blasted frame GHD faintly readable. Dissapointing
I ended up just usingbreak free. CLP. A friend of mine in the USMC reserves gave me a couple of bottles. I had a couple of people comment and say that they did the same thing with motor oil.

The appearance is part of the pistol's history, so I'm good with it. A light coat of oil is what I do too and have been for 50 years.

I’m sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can get some good life out of it or resell it for what you want. Thanks for coming by!
Break Free CLP sucks!!! Soak the gun in regular 10-30 WT oil or Shooters Choice FP-10, both will have your guns running if good lubricant is needed.
Thank you for sharing and thanks for coming by!
What oil did you use?
