2016 E250 Diesel owner here in Canada, my car is pretty much spec’d exactly as the one in the video (except 2.1 diesel motor). Bought for commuting, and car has been wonderful. I appreciate your comments about the Distronic plus system, for how old the car is, it autonomously “drives” better, smoother, and more natural than much newer vehicles from other manufacturers. In case anyone wants to know, for distronic with steer assist, under certain speeds in heavy traffic you can go completely hands off the wheel, and it does not prompt you for hands on until you go over a certain speed (at least my Canadian spec). So essentially it’s a low speed autopilot, and it’s very good at it.

I think the 2009 - 2013 conti models are perhaps one of the best years that the German carmakers ever build. Be it the bmw, mercedes or even Audis, they are build to last. Point to note that the W212 facelifted models or even the ones before that came with the 7g tronic gearbox had some gremlins in it. Particularly the ECU within the gearbox which caused a lot of inconveniences to the owners.

Excellent review Kon, highly considering the w212. Hearing from some owners on issues with just the brittle plastics in the engine and wear out suspension parts, and if I remember correctly timing chain issues similar to the F10 5 series. Besides that is a solid and reliable German to daily.
Dear Kon, thanks for this great video clip. İt really helped me to get know the car features. I bought 2013 w212(facelift) E350 with m276 v6 engine. Mileage is 138 000 km. I really love this car. Was facelift really produced in 2013? I doubt my car was modified and tuned to w212r
the facelift (assuming yours is a sedan) has a completely different bodyline compared to prefacelift at the rear quarter fender. almost impossible to fake.
I have a e350cdi SW 2012 and I agree, this is really a great and comfortable car. Best I ever owned, no major issues after 250'000km But I prefer mine with the split front optic.
I recently just test drive a pre facelift 2012 model Avantgarde, Japan spec. Wish to get a used to experience driving a mercedes. And being a Camry owner for a decade, i find this W212 ride comfort is out of my expectation. First noisy cabin mainly from tyres. Secondly there was noticeable coarse vibration at front floor when speed at 60km/hr. Third, the Distronic is inoperable at raining weather. Fourth, noticeable noise when rain which i thought an E class should have more insulation from such noise. That makes me wonder if I should keep searching for another of the same model or i should go for something else.
I agree with this. I actually have a facelift 2014 E350 diesel. For me, the previous W211 E Class from 2002 to 2009 was quieter and more refined. The W212 has quite a bit of road noise and wind noise in comparison.
Hey there wonderful video that wished could have come much earlier. Being a Mercedes fan, just got the exact same model, with having some hands on experience with it during my MB days, this M274 engine would be the point of discussion. The M274 was a need of new engine in that era taking the age of the M271 with later M271 evo for the CGI. M274 has piezzo direct injectors which makes the diesel-like sound and now its almost common in the new era of 2.0T direction injection, be it BMW as well. One key point to take note is the engine idling sound, ‘diesel like sound’ getting harsh, your morning cold starts becomes very noisy (timing chain) which usually goes away once the engine heats up to 60c. The issue is the engine oil pump in the sump. For some reason, MB decided to have a solenoid at the oil pump to control the oil pump pressure. The solenoid also has a wire directly connected to it inside. Look out for the engine code in the diagnostics ‘internal wiring short-circuit’ which causes to the solenoid to fail and the engine doesn’t get the required lubrication and next thing your engine jams. Could be solved with a RM 1.5k fix. Also take note on the LED headlights, they have a common issue where the RHS headlight highbeam doesn’t function and a warning will appear on the meter cluster. It could be due to the Headlight ECU or the actuator motor in the headlight. A complete set of it is RM 16k. The suspension though, its AMG spec and our roads are bad. Hope to see more videos on these era cars, which could help some petrol heads out there thinking of one. ❤
Congratulations on the acquisition, and thank you for your insightful share. Speaking of the M274, once upon a time, a loyal E-Class owner (one of those guys who went from 123 to 124 to 210 and finally 212, 213) was complaining to me how the engine of his E 250 M274 was rattling like a diesel and wanted MBM to buy his car back! I told him, this was the natural characteristic of the engine, it's not a defect, and highly unlikely MBM would accede to his demand.
Drove the pre fl w212 e250 japan spec. Power wise is adequate, the interior is superb, same goes to exterior (amg spec of course). The only thing I didn’t like is the suspension. How would you compare the 2 having driven both - I am trying to get behind the wheels of an E250 for a test drive soon myself. I have driven the older 3.0 litre version of the 528i and owned a JP Spec 2004 525i M-Sport for almost 8 years before selling it off 2 years back. The F10 probably handles better no doubt but I still don't feel like it's as solidly put together and made compared to a W212. Cheers!

Quite an opposite experience for me, coming from a 2010 Camry. No doubt on the solid feeling of the car but the ride quality from the sport suspension is just harsh. Couple with a tight driver's footwell area and an aggresive bolster on the front seats, boy the comfort level is questionable. Not a relaxing car to travel in and not forgetting the fact that the low ride height & the suspension tuning really cannot handle speedbumps. IF you fancy the facelift AMG Line like this, it is recommended to also try the UK-spec car or even the local E250/E400, then only you decide.
What engine did your car have? In our market, majority had the 1.8 CGI in the pre-facelift and the 2.0 M274 in the facelifts. I generally find the 1.8 CGI to be smoother in comparison, but that's just me

my W212/facelift 2014 has an 'assist graphic' BUT can't figure out how to adjust it, kindly asking for your advice? thnx in advance... ANYONE???
Does it have a spare wheel ?
one of the drawback of this car is the engine sound at outside is not pleasant, sounds like a lorry with the diesel a-like clutter and is loud. But the good thing is none of them get into the cabin.
Yes, the 1.8 CGI does not make the same sound.
funny how bmw's b48 also makes the same clatter. maybe its the direct injection
How can i diffentiate the w212 got all the precrash feather and ACC?
See the Mercedes logo on the grille. If plastic laminate, means there is the radar module behind.
@@KonWaiLuen i hv survey on few unit w212 few month ago, alot used car dealer will jz change the logo grill to the one look like hv radar. So really cant diferentiate it. I think the only way is look into the meter menu inside hv the ACC function or not.
Mine E is all black... ppl said to me, too much 'Ggstar' one.... what?? 🥺🥺
you are right. The W212 is way way way better than its successor, the W213.
The ride is firmer than one would expect of an E-Class, but it still feels better sorted than the W213.
Wondering if this car still available or have some more like this? Contact plz.. 😊
This car is available. Can get in touch with us at 012-4880367 for more info
used to have w212 'pre-facelift' but the facelift one is way better
What engine did your car have? In our market, majority had the 1.8 CGI in the pre-facelift and the 2.0 M274 in the facelifts. I generally find the 1.8 CGI to be smoother in comparison, but that's just me
next video will be the w221 😅
that little car driver got our with brown pants
Great video.. about to buy one..
Congratulations!!
Well done!
S Class is the leaders on safety technology.. Mercedes benz is alwyas a head of time . But watching car buying show on Monday i find a strong biased towards BMW.
We generally prefer the driving experience offered by BMW, but this gen of Mercs, I have a great liking for.
Kon I have some questions.
Can you fill in your details in this form.... we'll be in touch... forms.gle/XJTpugthfeVh4Tub9
I am much more a believer now
Well done
Thanks for watching!
Even W140 has a distronic :)
Nice but the Pre-face lift was the classic Benz to get. I miss the quad headlight design withe flared rear fenders.
Looks dated, facelift still looks modern
I want this, is it still available?
can you buzz us at 012-4880367
"Solid and competent" meanwhile best in its class 😂
The f10 5 series handling is way better.more supple ride and way more powerful.only that the e class will not bleed your money as much😂
You may be surprised. The W212 is a relatively reliable car, but the F10 is pretty decent too.
F10 is not really as powerful as w212
@@egwuogusmarth.c4949 f10 with 245 bhp,212 e250 2.0 only with 211 bhp..refinement;handling goes to f10,reliability is a tie between this two
@@egwuogusmarth.c4949Power is subjective. If you compare a F10 M car Vs the 212 E63 ,the BMW fares better with BMW ALWAYS underclaiming BOTH the Power and O to 100( 62mph) km/ h!
Tell me more! I’m closing a deal on an e class 2014 and I am looking at the f10 also. I thought the sound isolation was better in merc?
So it is BAD. BAD, but not Too BAD. Then you say the car after this….. It appears your statement is confusing. No Good and then Good.

Hello!
@@KonWaiLuen really enjoyed your review!
Wrong info, made stop watching your video no matter what you have to say in the rest if the video.
I m ready to stand corrected
You are totally wrong
You talked so much about the car but you left out the most important part of showing the engine compartment and the engine itself. Big fail there. Plus talking so much just more the crap out of me.
I am getting one w212 cgi e200 driven only 30000 k m with service records but the confusion is will it be the good choice?? Can you please help me??
Sounds like a decent purchase if price is right
