Very relieved to hear someone agree with my thoughts. I was shocked the first time I saw the W212 interior - it looked like a Japanese car interior, especially around the radio unit. Also the beautiful curves of the W211 were gone. I have two identical w211's with cream interiors on travertine beige exteriors. I'm hoping these will last another 20 years.
Two identical W211's gets thumbs up from this W210 owner. IMO, W211 exterior is more modern but I like W210 interior better. I also like W210's mechanical simplicity which means less to go wrong. SBC and Airmatic are problems.
We have a w211 and a face-lift 212, the 212 is by far a more active car and more reliable especially suspension wise but the 211 is I'm my eyes the very last of the true mercedes brand
I have a 2003 W211 and a 2010 pre-facelift w212, and I agree. The w212 is a phenomenal car to drive, but doesn't have quite the same feel. Unfortunately they started cheapening the front dash.
I have at present a W212 coming from a W211 and my take on it is they are both great cars but for me the W212 has the edge. I love driving it and it has been faultless. Its been with me now for 8 years and no intention of changing. In the right spec and the color combo they are a very attractive car.
Yeah, the reliability of the w212 is better. We had a w211 before and problems were: shock absorbers and puch rods were dead, also the interior plastic was getting too soft and gets white or blue with time, also the headlights were yellow.
I did hear that before. I was lucky enough to be able to garage my car so very little fading it was also the E320 and the engine was as sweet as as a nut, but to say the w211 is loved and the W212 hated is nonsense @@stormrider01
Although it’s a matter of opinion and taste, the W212 has a numb and generic driving feel and experience.. while the W211 has many of the traditional characteristics associated with MB in the past in regards to road feel and dynamics. The W212 may be more toss-able, but definitely less engaging to drive than the W211. The W211 is more of a “driver’s car.” The W211 build and material quality is also much better, but that’s a completely different matter..
W211 has a perfection that no other car has in terms of headlights and interior and exterior door design, but the interior design of W212 is not eye-catching at all, they have simplified it very much, facelift models are like a jeweler's car.
As much as I love the W211, the W212 also looks stately beautiful on the outside though. Even the facelift interior looks miles better than the pre facelift...
I own a 2006 E320 CDI. I have over 300,000 miles on it. If I set the cruise control to 55 MPH, I can get around 57.6 MPG. If I set the speed to 80 MPH I get around 40 MPG. Love it.
I love my 07 e550. definitely the rarest w211 and has a naturally aspirated v8 5.5 liter with around 385 hp and about the same amount of tq. keeps up with e55 and e63 to 60 and has all the luxury. its a sleeper for sure. just had to replace the air suspension with coilovers.
I just ran into a review that expresses my exact feeling and experience driving both cars. I currently own the W211 E550, and my wife owns a W212 E550. My personal feeling is that the W211 is a man’s car, and the W212 appeal to women. Don’t get all in your feelings about that statement. Fact is whenever I drive the W212, I feel no connection to the car. It is just boring. The interior feels cheap. The wood trim in the W212 faded soon after we got it. The steering wheel controls started pealing off, and the Lane Keep Assist feature is completely annoying; This review is spot on. The w211 has a “soul”; you can feel it. I experience it. I smile whenever I am going anywhere with my W211. If you have a W211 or is considering one, I suggest replacing the radio with a aftermarket (Pioneer, Kenwood, etc.) double din radio with Apple Car Play or Android Auto, reverse camera, and boom you have leaped forward to 2023. Make sure you use a reputable installer. Ask you Mercedes dealer to recommend someone.

I couldn’t disagree more! I had two 211’s and they were so bad that I almost didn’t buy another Mercedes. In the shop constantly and not fir a day or two but the E320 BlueTec was on the shop for months at a time. The E550 wasn’t quite as bad but still not a good car. I’ve had 2 W212s and they’ve been a joy. The first one reached 150,000 miles with no issues. My current 2016 E350 4matic is one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. It’s comfortable, bank vault quiet and never a problem. You can keep fhe 211s. I think that they’re terrible!
I also have both: a 2006 E350 (69,000 kms) and a 2013 E250 (84,000). Without doubt, the W212 feels tighter and sportier, and without doubt the W211 has a far better ride. Mercedes "uprated" the W212 suspension to better take on BMW performance-wise, but they lost the plot when it came to passenger comfort. Yesterday (10.01.2025) I drove my W211 E350 for 9 hours straight, just over 900 kms, from Brisbane to the NSW Central Coast just north of Sydney and felt fully rested upon arrival. 300 kms on my W212 wears me out. My W211 Elegance is luxury personified, my W212, whilst a stunner, leaves me just cold; it has no soul. I believe M-B erred in chasing BMW with the entire W212 E-class series; 1 or maybe 2 models, perhaps. But bring back the luxury and sensuousness of the W211.
I have W211 E200 Kompressor,. It is not the car it is rocket on the road... Looking at the car is like treat..... It is evergreen masterpiece of Mercedes Benz.. proud ownership.....

08:45. I’m curious… you compared the W211 E350 to the W212 E350. Was the W211 an Elegance or an AvantGarde edition? My W211 E350 AvantGarde comes with lowered ‘sports suspension’ that maybe trades off ride quality compared to the Elegance version but have not driven an Elegance. My M-B experience started with owning a W124 300E 1986. I had the suspension overhauled and shocks replaced, and the ride of the old 300E was sublime, perfect-no other car I’ve driven comes close, and handling was pretty good too. Anyway, I certainly agree that after 8 years of ownership, the W211 E350 AG is a heck of a safe, pleasing place to relax and enjoy, faced with any road conditions.
w211 in any trim is great , and w212 in any trim is not . i drove once w124 i think it was E220 and i agree with you on ride quality , it was something special .my butt cheecks still remember it )

I've owned a 05 E500, 09 E550 and now a 13 E550. I love both my W211s but the W212 is better! The V8 with Biturbo is faster and the all wheel drive 4matic drives better. All are great cars, w211 is luxury and the w212 is luxury/sport!
I own a Mercedes-Benz E500 4matic(W211) fully equipped (dealer told me hasn't delivered a more outfitted car) for about 18 years now and I can remember that I was contacted by my friendly MB dealership for a test drive with the idea that I would upgrade to the W212. While the drive was equally good on normal roads and in town I recall that the suspension felt stiffer and seats much less comfortable. What really made me backing off was there lack of the little very practical drawer in the dashboard where I used to put my home keys in. It had been fallen victim of the cost cutters at that time. I'm still very happy with the decision I took, never ever regretted it and I always tell people that this car will be the last car to be sold out of my collection of MB's because it's the best car - overall (!) - that I ever owned and I owned many-many very good cars over the years.
Had 2005 w211 e350 Fabulous.Sydney to Melbiurne and back EASY,Comfy,no air suso, reliable but Crankshaft position sensor needed replacing reasonably cheap. Was cutting out or no start .After cooling would restart , replacing the valve cured it. ULTRA RELIABLE ,SOLID,POWERFUL.apart from the common merc CPSensor as oil drops on it over many years.

I have both of these cars. The W212 is a better car overall. The W211 *feels* like a good luxury sedan. The W212 *feels* like a luxury sport car. They handle totally different. Edited: I notice you said that it has heavier handling. I also had a C-Class 2004. The handling was just as tight. I love that about this generation of Mercedes.

The W212 is not a better car overall, but if you base it on handling and ride.. then it’s pure opinion. The w212 has a numb and generic driving experience. The W211 has the traditional MB feel and characteristics. They’re both about as comfortable though
As much as i will like to agree with you W211 has major issues. I used the pre facelift E500 for 10 years driven over 250k kilometers. The performance was excellent but when you face issues with SBC and Airmatic - that will change your perception. The facelift version solved most of the problem but came with M273 (i wish Mercedes used M113 for the facelift version). As for W212, that's the best so far - at least in my 30years experience with E Class. Your view on W212 is based on your experience with the cheaper sub-models. The top end once with AMG package are in a different class. I have used W212 for 6 years now with the M278 engine (too much power). Its much better than W211. My favorite is still W124.
M273 is a very reliable engine. I've seen a few with almost 400K, still running strong with no major work done to the engine. Its more reliable than the m156 in E63's. History will show its every bit as durable as an M113, its just not as mod friendly...
You’re not well informed. SBC was updated and the replacement units don’t have those issues. Airmatic is also available on the W212, so that’s the same for both. It’s not an unreliable system, but just adds complexity
211 was insane. 15 hours straight from Budapest to the French coast and I got out like it was a 5 minute drive. I used to tell people that the worst thing about the car was it just wouldn't die... if anything it was just getting better. I get my A207 I appreciate not a W212) next week and am looking forward to it.
I have a custom white W212 E350 Sport for 5 years now and by far my favorite Mercedes Benz. The body lines the reliability the speed is just enough to have fun but not kill yourself. I will always have a W212 Mercedes Benz.
since when was the 212 hated??? if anything the 212 is one of mercedes best and most loved E class.... Not to mention one of the most reliable E classes.
In the front W211 has a double wishbone suspension, w212 has the macpherson suspension. In the back they both have multilink setup. I prefer the driving feel of the w211, still drives like the old school mercedes.
Mercedes reacted to the poor reception and reaction to the W212 which had developed a reputation for poor quality and unreliability. The W212 was a big improvement. You are the only UA-cam channel saying differently.
I owned a 2008 E320 Bluetec diesel. Loved it, but was tempted and traded it for a 2012 E350 W212 with only 21K km. Great car but never got excited about driving it. I missed the nearly 400 ft lb of torque to the rear wheels. I sold it and looked for three years for another similar W211 (quite rare). I finally found a 2009 Avantgarde edition E320 Bluetec diesel RWD…another monster and in amazing shape. I installed a pioneer stereo with CarPlay et voila, a modern highway monster! Love the classic exterior and feel of this car, and of course, that awesome torque.
I agree with everything you said. i have an E500 W211, and it is so much nicer than the w212. I have a pre facelift but no problem with the air suspension at all. Such a feeling of quality compared to 212. Great review and video cheers
@@snggarageengI live in Minnesota, my pre-facelift 211 500 held onto its factory Airmatic struts up until the 170,000 mile mark (about 274,000 km). Factory compressors still work, factory lines and fittings are all still installed. It took literally 20 years and over a quarter million kilometers for a single Airmatic strut to fail on my 211, and that’s in an area notorious for rust and heavily salted winter roads. I strongly suspect earlier failures had more to do with severe heat wearing rubber seals down, or user error (meaning people were doing wild stuff in their 211’s that the struts just weren’t rated for).
I have a 2003 E500, the ride is amazing, enough power when needed. Downside, I replaced the air suspension with regular shocks, it feels the same, and some issues with the battery drainage which was easily fixed. Overall 9.0
I have a W211 and I think it is the best car ever built, every time I come across one my eyes go out, the AMG E 63 version is a collector's car. My w211 already has 545,000 km, and has never had a problem. They don't make cars like that anymore, not Mercedes or anything...
Well it's the w211 2.7cdi for me love the sound of the 5 cylinder engine and its economy its not fast but so comfortable and reliable. And you don't really have to drive it fast to appreciate its fine quality. On the motorway it will cruise at high speed for hours and I still feel relaxed when I arrive. Good job done Mercedes ❤ 😊
Greetings from Australia! I have an 05 E240 with the 2.6 v6 and so far I really like it, esp the features such as the ambient lightning & the interior door handles that also illuminate. However the steering feels heavy when handling at low speed. Having said that, this is one of the nicest cars I have ever owned, and I stopped counting cars when I hit the magic 150. When I was getting insurance quotes one company wanted AU$2700/yr!! Like wtf. Also, every company I checked said it was a Classic variant but there are Avantgarde markings on the door trim as well as on the gearstick. Anyone have an idea why?
I had them both but the 212.. the costs of fuel were very high compared to the 211 (e200 kompressor and e200 cgi) Also the 211 felt more relaxed to drive in

I ovn a 320 cdi facelift. elegance. love it. it is fast. it is glued to the road. and when it let go., it do it in a very good way. and with the limit slip you can realy drive up hils in the snow that other can't. but yes. they can be bad. IF you don't keep up with the service. and part in time. I did. so mine has now 260 000 mile, and everything is fine and drive like new, oh my 7g gearbox is just fine. DO not be afraid to use the car. do not baby drive them. use them but not as a race car.
Who says that E212 is hated? That's a very misleading statement on UA-cam. Where's the survey that supports that?. As someone who had owned W211 and later W212. I can tell you that there's no comparison when it comes to reliability, fuel efficiency, HP etc between the two. W212 is much better than W211 any day!

2011 S212 200 CGI with 90k miles on counter here and no problems with leathers, air suspension or automatic gearbox. Mercedes replaced rusted rear subframe at no cost few months ago and the car is still going strong.
W211 e220 cdi elegance 2009 is the ultimate sedan in terms of luxury comfort driving pleasure the feel of richness the best Mercedes has ever produced until 2023
I have driven many thousands of miles in my 3 E class wagons. 2002, 2006 and 2012. The suspension improved with each revision. Gas mileage got worse going from the 3.2 to 3.5 V6 with only a slight increase in power, still having a 5 speed automatic. The direct injection 3.5 in the 2012 is noticeably more powerful than before with a smoothness at high rpm than the previous 3.5. With a 7 speed, gas mileage is better than either the w210 or the w211 by at least 10%. The one thing better in the w211 was the leather upholstery. The newer leather doesn't have the smell or feel of the w211 interior. Overall, the w212 is a better car.
I've driven 212 decent amount of miles too and have 211 now, 212 from mechanical standpoint is better car for sure but 211 wagon exterior and specially interior is a lot better and feels like quality mercedes should feel. Exterior is arguable to lots of people, 212 exterior is beautiful too but interior just can't hold candle to 211 and that was difference maker to me because I do drive a lot.
I just bought a 2008 E320CDI avantgarde with almost full options (No solor panels) with only 116K km from the first owner I think I will never sell that car!
M113 5.0, I suggest replacing the motor and tranny mounts and changing the fluids on a routine interval because these types of engines are self-restored and will take care of you, as so far as you take care of it. One of the best pieces of engineering today.
@@MrKlo-so8tj That's nothing on an M113. I use Liqui Moly Ceratec for added wear protection. Makes the engine smoother, quieter, and just plain feel alot newer. Its a big part of the reason my engine is still running strong despite the mileage...
I Have Facelift W212 E63s AMG, and W211 comparing to W212 is trash. Dont say that W212 doesn’t have a soul, you just have never driven W212 E63S. W212 E63S is a Beast!
I have W211, 2005 E500. Only 170000 miles now. It burn a lot of oil, every 500 miles needs to add 1 quart 0W-40 oil. And the SBC system failed one time that almost kill me because it lost brake power when driving on the street. And the air suspention are stupid design that easy to fail. Other than that it is very beautiful car.

W211 is more affordable for a college like me. I have to drive to university and work everyday so I will need really a nice car. I’m sick of my new 2015 Hyundai Sonata not only it’s boring but new registration cost more and maintenance cost a little more than older Mercedes-Benz too since it use complicated computer for the engine on a Hyundai.
i had 2007 e350, it was a dream, very nice and smooth except that "272" engine problems, now i have E250 of 2012, m271 avantgarde, man this is much better that my previous merc.
@@snggarageeng ur right that 211 had its uniqueness in looking, coming to w212 it starts to look like most modern car models, that Mercedes identity begun to get lost from there, like even merging headlight on facelift models to date, that made e class loose its true identity, i guarantee you, split lights will come back in future, just like iphone 5 style coming back in iphone 12 going forward
I'm about to sell my beloved 2006 W211 220Cdi estate. It stills runs super smoothly at 560k km with the original engine and gearbox. Air suspension and headlights has been expensive to maintain though. Was planning on a W212 but it sucks if it feels cheap. Consider going back to Volvo but the super smooth ride of the benz is addictive.
I don't know what this guy is talking about it feeling cheap. My 212 interior feels excellent and in my opinion looks much better than the 211, but appearance is of course subjective.
@@macaroniboy91 I just purchased a 2015 -W212 4matic wagon with 80,000 . All the maintenance done at dealer -one owner, New Air Bags. Had it for almost a month-I gave the 211 - 2008 4matic wagon to my son-he has 180,000 on it and he loves the car. I did replace the air bags and compressor with arnot air bag replacements on the 211.. The 211 is more of a solid ride. I like the 212-it seems lighter-and more nimble-The thing I don't like is the ECO Button. I am still trying ECO but another thing that I don't care for. Everything else is nice on the 212-the seats seem more like a sport seat-not quite as comfy as the two 211 seats.
I'm thinking early W211 with M113, 722 transmission, coil over conversion, and SBC warranty work is the pick of W211. E55K would be nice but oil pump O-ring will rot away and cause oil pressure problem.
Lot of bias in this video, I love them both and more partial to the W211 but the W212 is an excellent vehicle and a great value proposition. It feels more substantial and more luxurious than the W211, also very reliable for a modern day luxury car. However. it doesn't feel as solid or well built as the W211. The W211, although well proportioned and great looking, feels dated by now, especially the pre- facelift models.

I have a brabus w211 and have owned a e55 in the past. I loved that car so much that i had to scratch the itch and buy another 5 years later. Prior to buying it i drove a friends 212 and i just didn't feel right or as comfortable in it. Wasn't a fan of the lay out so went ahead and bought this w211. However that is only my opinion and im sure many people would of been the opposite as both are great cars in there own right
I absolutely love my 2010 w212. Encountered the subframe issue but that one was fully covered by Mercedes. Also had the timing chain replaced...at almost 200.000 km's it was an expensive thing but hey....shit happens. Right now i have to work on the suspension but i will do that bit by bit. Overall the car never had major issues so far...the car is getting old so ill take replacements for granted and ill will keep this one for a long time.

my 2005 320cdi just feels better and the cdi has been bullet proof only 2 injectors after 240k km and some glowplugs. but i maintain my car properly i feel the 212 is boring and feels like it belongs in a vauxhall. also Stage1 with 260/600nm is more than enough for me and the 648 is reliable and easy to wrench on Also i built a 124 with 270cdi. i will never go anything newer than 211 . Im only waiting for sbc to go out but there is companys renovating them for 400-500 euro here in EU
Sorry to bore everyone with my nomination of the 124 as the best E-Class. I just love the boxy styling. However, I'm seriously considering a 211 as my new daily now.
I own a w211 e220cdi from 2005 for 14 years now, and it currently has 460k km. Man, I have abused this car so much that i have broken 5 power steering pumps while doing donuts 🤣. Aside from that and the sbc being replaced free of charge, this car delivers every day.
@SNG Garage Eng standart classic level suspension, which proved to be a lot better than the sagging suspension on the Elegance and Avantgarde levels. Transmission is 5G as it is a late 05 model.
I hear you brother. My 2004 E240 is about to hit 400k. Have had since new. Had an 2014 250d X218 Shooting brake, gave it away, hated it. A 2016 350d GL, gave that away. Absolutely love the W211. Approaching 20 years, 400k km, runs like new. Bulletproof class.
Recently bought a 2009 E350 4Matic and drives very well, Interior feels great and quiet. The Harman Kardon sound system was disappointing. I'm OK with the exterior looks of the W212, and agreed that the interior feels too cheap. Specially because most of them don;t have the wood option
I have to agree, had a 2004 and 2005 e class and a 2014 e class. The W211 rides better where the w212 crashes more over rough roads, allowing thuds and shakes into the cabin that a W211 never would. The electric steering of the W212 is way too light and lifeless. W211 brakes more progressive. The w211 5g even switches gear more smoothly than the 7g. For me W211 wins on all fronts apart from technology in the car with no Bluetooth, DAB and sat nav. No doubt the W212 is also faster. And the w212 dashboard could come straight from a Ford or Vauxhall, you could never say that about a w211
Facelift W211 Yes. Prefacelift W211 No, as it was proven to be quite problematic with rust issues and SBC Braking system (I lost braking in the mountains). I had the 2005 E320 and it wasnt good. I now have 2009 E350 AMG Sport Package and its better in every way. Stay away from 2006 and 2007 W211 as they have balance shaft issues. Do your research
It's a large sprocket which has a chain rotating on it. It controls vibration on the V6 M272's in prefacelift W211's, mainly 06. Similar to a timing chain set up. Mercedes sourced the wrong metal for some of the sprockets, the metal was too weak and caused the teeth on the sprockets to wear out prematurely...within as little as 40K miles. It's a 5-6k engine out repair which should have been covered under recall but largely isn't. Most of them fortunately don't have the defect, but its prevalent enough...
When my SBC went, I just took it to Mercedes for their 25 year/unlimited mile warranty. Replaced it for me free of charge and I was back on the road in my Benz the next week. As for the rust issues, I’ve had every panel under my 03’ out and the rear quarter panel is the only spot with any rust, and this car has been a Minnesota car it’s whole life. So, I’m still unsure about the rust comment, maybe in neglected cars or ones parked for extended periods, but the two issues you listed are very easily rectified. The bigger glaring issue for W211’s is dumping their rear subframe by snapping off the mounting bolts in their mounting bosses (a job that requires cutting open the frame to access the retaining nut). However, an easy out set and a new OEM bolt managed to fix mine when it did so, so it could be easy, could be a nightmare.
I have pre face lift late 2005 in UK. There is no rust on it at all and they are not known for rust , the bad time for rust on mercs was from 1998-2002. My car has done 160k and SBC still going strong. In past 7 years its needed nothing apart from springs all round, it never fails me. An SBC failure has never been reported, the brake issue in the mountains must have been a maintenance problem.
couldnt have said more incorrect information? the W212 fixed all problems that the W211 had, and people by far love the W212, the W211 i good, but the W212 is just better. The W212 isnt the start of cheap quality Mercedes cars but it fixed mostly every problem the W211 had. The W212 by far is the Best E class there is and there is no arguing in that.
W212 is, from what I get from owners, seem more reliable than w211 mechanically, except the engine, where w211's 3.2 v6 is way more reliable. Personally my 2 issues with w212 are the terrible interior quality which also doesn't last, and the paint's orange peel compared to w211 glassy smooth paintjob.
@@snggarageeng6.3 has the edge on horsepower, 5.5K has the edge on torque. Torque = acceleration so it stands to reason the 5.5K would be faster as it’s got more torque.

Very relieved to hear someone agree with my thoughts. I was shocked the first time I saw the W212 interior - it looked like a Japanese car interior, especially around the radio unit. Also the beautiful curves of the W211 were gone. I have two identical w211's with cream interiors on travertine beige exteriors. I'm hoping these will last another 20 years.

Two identical W211's gets thumbs up from this W210 owner. IMO, W211 exterior is more modern but I like W210 interior better. I also like W210's mechanical simplicity which means less to go wrong. SBC and Airmatic are problems.

I have a 2003 W211 and a 2010 pre-facelift w212, and I agree. The w212 is a phenomenal car to drive, but doesn't have quite the same feel. Unfortunately they started cheapening the front dash.

I have at present a W212 coming from a W211 and my take on it is they are both great cars but for me the W212 has the edge. I love driving it and it has been faultless. Its been with me now for 8 years and no intention of changing. In the right spec and the color combo they are a very attractive car.
Yeah, the reliability of the w212 is better. We had a w211 before and problems were: shock absorbers and puch rods were dead, also the interior plastic was getting too soft and gets white or blue with time, also the headlights were yellow.
I did hear that before. I was lucky enough to be able to garage my car so very little fading it was also the E320 and the engine was as sweet as as a nut, but to say the w211 is loved and the W212 hated is nonsense @@stormrider01
Although it’s a matter of opinion and taste, the W212 has a numb and generic driving feel and experience.. while the W211 has many of the traditional characteristics associated with MB in the past in regards to road feel and dynamics. The W212 may be more toss-able, but definitely less engaging to drive than the W211. The W211 is more of a “driver’s car.” The W211 build and material quality is also much better, but that’s a completely different matter..

I own a 2006 E320 CDI. I have over 300,000 miles on it.
If I set the cruise control to 55 MPH, I can get around 57.6 MPG.
If I set the speed to 80 MPH I get around 40 MPG.
Love it.

I love my 07 e550. definitely the rarest w211 and has a naturally aspirated v8 5.5 liter with around 385 hp and about the same amount of tq. keeps up with e55 and e63 to 60 and has all the luxury. its a sleeper for sure. just had to replace the air suspension with coilovers.
I just ran into a review that expresses my exact feeling and experience driving both cars. I currently own the W211 E550, and my wife owns a W212 E550. My personal feeling is that the W211 is a man’s car, and the W212 appeal to women. Don’t get all in your feelings about that statement. Fact is whenever I drive the W212, I feel no connection to the car. It is just boring. The interior feels cheap. The wood trim in the W212 faded soon after we got it. The steering wheel controls started pealing off, and the Lane Keep Assist feature is completely annoying; This review is spot on. The w211 has a “soul”; you can feel it. I experience it. I smile whenever I am going anywhere with my W211. If you have a W211 or is considering one, I suggest replacing the radio with a aftermarket (Pioneer, Kenwood, etc.) double din radio with Apple Car Play or Android Auto, reverse camera, and boom you have leaped forward to 2023. Make sure you use a reputable installer. Ask you Mercedes dealer to recommend someone.

I couldn’t disagree more! I had two 211’s and they were so bad that I almost didn’t buy another Mercedes. In the shop constantly and not fir a day or two but the E320 BlueTec was on the shop for months at a time. The E550 wasn’t quite as bad but still not a good car.
I’ve had 2 W212s and they’ve been a joy. The first one reached 150,000 miles with no issues. My current 2016 E350 4matic is one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. It’s comfortable, bank vault quiet and never a problem.
You can keep fhe 211s. I think that they’re terrible!

I also have both: a 2006 E350 (69,000 kms) and a 2013 E250 (84,000). Without doubt, the W212 feels tighter and sportier, and without doubt the W211 has a far better ride. Mercedes "uprated" the W212 suspension to better take on BMW performance-wise, but they lost the plot when it came to passenger comfort. Yesterday (10.01.2025) I drove my W211 E350 for 9 hours straight, just over 900 kms, from Brisbane to the NSW Central Coast just north of Sydney and felt fully rested upon arrival. 300 kms on my W212 wears me out. My W211 Elegance is luxury personified, my W212, whilst a stunner, leaves me just cold; it has no soul. I believe M-B erred in chasing BMW with the entire W212 E-class series; 1 or maybe 2 models, perhaps. But bring back the luxury and sensuousness of the W211.
I have W211 E200 Kompressor,. It is not the car it is rocket on the road... Looking at the car is like treat..... It is evergreen masterpiece of Mercedes Benz.. proud ownership.....

08:45. I’m curious… you compared the W211 E350 to the W212 E350. Was the W211 an Elegance or an AvantGarde edition? My W211 E350 AvantGarde comes with lowered ‘sports suspension’ that maybe trades off ride quality compared to the Elegance version but have not driven an Elegance. My M-B experience started with owning a W124 300E 1986. I had the suspension overhauled and shocks replaced, and the ride of the old 300E was sublime, perfect-no other car I’ve driven comes close, and handling was pretty good too. Anyway, I certainly agree that after 8 years of ownership, the W211 E350 AG is a heck of a safe, pleasing place to relax and enjoy, faced with any road conditions.
w211 in any trim is great , and w212 in any trim is not . i drove once w124 i think it was E220 and i agree with you on ride quality , it was something special .my butt cheecks still remember it )

I've owned a 05 E500, 09 E550 and now a 13 E550. I love both my W211s but the W212 is better! The V8 with Biturbo is faster and the all wheel drive 4matic drives better. All are great cars, w211 is luxury and the w212 is luxury/sport!

I own a Mercedes-Benz E500 4matic(W211) fully equipped (dealer told me hasn't delivered a more outfitted car) for about 18 years now and I can remember that I was contacted by my friendly MB dealership for a test drive with the idea that I would upgrade to the W212. While the drive was equally good on normal roads and in town I recall that the suspension felt stiffer and seats much less comfortable. What really made me backing off was there lack of the little very practical drawer in the dashboard where I used to put my home keys in. It had been fallen victim of the cost cutters at that time. I'm still very happy with the decision I took, never ever regretted it and I always tell people that this car will be the last car to be sold out of my collection of MB's because it's the best car - overall (!) - that I ever owned and I owned many-many very good cars over the years.
Had 2005 w211 e350 Fabulous.Sydney to Melbiurne and back EASY,Comfy,no air suso, reliable but Crankshaft position sensor needed replacing reasonably cheap. Was cutting out or no start .After cooling would restart , replacing the valve cured it. ULTRA RELIABLE ,SOLID,POWERFUL.apart from the common merc CPSensor as oil drops on it over many years.
Love my 2005 W211 CDI. 275K miles, and still runs great.

The W212 is not a better car overall, but if you base it on handling and ride.. then it’s pure opinion. The w212 has a numb and generic driving experience. The W211 has the traditional MB feel and characteristics. They’re both about as comfortable though

As much as i will like to agree with you W211 has major issues. I used the pre facelift E500 for 10 years driven over 250k kilometers. The performance was excellent but when you face issues with SBC and Airmatic - that will change your perception. The facelift version solved most of the problem but came with M273 (i wish Mercedes used M113 for the facelift version). As for W212, that's the best so far - at least in my 30years experience with E Class. Your view on W212 is based on your experience with the cheaper sub-models. The top end once with AMG package are in a different class. I have used W212 for 6 years now with the M278 engine (too much power). Its much better than W211. My favorite is still W124.

M273 is a very reliable engine. I've seen a few with almost 400K, still running strong with no major work done to the engine. Its more reliable than the m156 in E63's. History will show its every bit as durable as an M113, its just not as mod friendly...
You’re not well informed. SBC was updated and the replacement units don’t have those issues. Airmatic is also available on the W212, so that’s the same for both. It’s not an unreliable system, but just adds complexity
211 was insane. 15 hours straight from Budapest to the French coast and I got out like it was a 5 minute drive. I used to tell people that the worst thing about the car was it just wouldn't die... if anything it was just getting better.

I have a custom white W212 E350 Sport for 5 years now and by far my favorite Mercedes Benz. The body lines the reliability the speed is just enough to have fun but not kill yourself. I will always have a W212 Mercedes Benz.

In the front W211 has a double wishbone suspension, w212 has the macpherson suspension. In the back they both have multilink setup. I prefer the driving feel of the w211, still drives like the old school mercedes.

Mercedes reacted to the poor reception and reaction to the W212 which had developed a reputation for poor quality and unreliability. The W212 was a big improvement. You are the only UA-cam channel saying differently.
I owned a 2008 E320 Bluetec diesel. Loved it, but was tempted and traded it for a 2012 E350 W212 with only 21K km. Great car but never got excited about driving it. I missed the nearly 400 ft lb of torque to the rear wheels. I sold it and looked for three years for another similar W211 (quite rare). I finally found a 2009 Avantgarde edition E320 Bluetec diesel RWD…another monster and in amazing shape. I installed a pioneer stereo with CarPlay et voila, a modern highway monster! Love the classic exterior and feel of this car, and of course, that awesome torque.

@@snggarageengI live in Minnesota, my pre-facelift 211 500 held onto its factory Airmatic struts up until the 170,000 mile mark (about 274,000 km).
Factory compressors still work, factory lines and fittings are all still installed. It took literally 20 years and over a quarter million kilometers for a single Airmatic strut to fail on my 211, and that’s in an area notorious for rust and heavily salted winter roads.
I strongly suspect earlier failures had more to do with severe heat wearing rubber seals down, or user error (meaning people were doing wild stuff in their 211’s that the struts just weren’t rated for).
I have a 2003 E500, the ride is amazing, enough power when needed. Downside, I replaced the air suspension with regular shocks, it feels the same, and some issues with the battery drainage which was easily fixed. Overall 9.0

Well it's the w211 2.7cdi for me love the sound of the 5 cylinder engine and its economy its not fast but so comfortable and reliable. And you don't really have to drive it fast to appreciate its fine quality. On the motorway it will cruise at high speed for hours and I still feel relaxed when I arrive. Good job done Mercedes ❤ 😊

I have an 05 E240 with the 2.6 v6 and so far I really like it, esp the features such as the ambient lightning & the interior door handles that also illuminate.
However the steering feels heavy when handling at low speed.
Having said that, this is one of the nicest cars I have ever owned, and I stopped counting cars when I hit the magic 150.
When I was getting insurance quotes one company wanted AU$2700/yr!! Like wtf.
Also, every company I checked said it was a Classic variant but there are Avantgarde markings on the door trim as well as on the gearstick.
Anyone have an idea why?
I had them both but the 212.. the costs of fuel were very high compared to the 211 (e200 kompressor and e200 cgi)

I ovn a 320 cdi facelift. elegance. love it. it is fast. it is glued to the road. and when it let go., it do it in a very good way. and with the limit slip you can realy drive up hils in the snow that other can't. but yes. they can be bad. IF you don't keep up with the service. and part in time. I did. so mine has now 260 000 mile, and everything is fine and drive like new, oh my 7g gearbox is just fine. DO not be afraid to use the car. do not baby drive them. use them but not as a race car.

Who says that E212 is hated? That's a very misleading statement on UA-cam. Where's the survey that supports that?. As someone who had owned W211 and later W212. I can tell you that there's no comparison when it comes to reliability, fuel efficiency, HP etc between the two. W212 is much better than W211 any day!

2011 S212 200 CGI with 90k miles on counter here and no problems with leathers, air suspension or automatic gearbox. Mercedes replaced rusted rear subframe at no cost few months ago and the car is still going strong.
W211 e220 cdi elegance 2009 is the ultimate sedan in terms of luxury comfort driving pleasure the feel of richness the best Mercedes has ever produced until 2023
what milage you have ?
I have driven many thousands of miles in my 3 E class wagons. 2002, 2006 and 2012. The suspension improved with each revision. Gas mileage got worse going from the 3.2 to 3.5 V6 with only a slight increase in power, still having a 5 speed automatic. The direct injection 3.5 in the 2012 is noticeably more powerful than before with a smoothness at high rpm than the previous 3.5. With a 7 speed, gas mileage is better than either the w210 or the w211 by at least 10%. The one thing better in the w211 was the leather upholstery. The newer leather doesn't have the smell or feel of the w211 interior. Overall, the w212 is a better car.
I've driven 212 decent amount of miles too and have 211 now, 212 from mechanical standpoint is better car for sure but 211 wagon exterior and specially interior is a lot better and feels like quality mercedes should feel. Exterior is arguable to lots of people, 212 exterior is beautiful too but interior just can't hold candle to 211 and that was difference maker to me because I do drive a lot.
I just bought a 2008 E320CDI avantgarde with almost full options (No solor panels) with only 116K km from the first owner I think I will never sell that car!

M113 5.0, I suggest replacing the motor and tranny mounts and changing the fluids on a routine interval because these types of engines are self-restored and will take care of you, as so far as you take care of it. One of the best pieces of engineering today.
I've got 231K and still running strong, and that's on an 06 V6 with the dreaded balance shaft fears...

@@MrKlo-so8tj That's nothing on an M113. I use Liqui Moly Ceratec for added wear protection. Makes the engine smoother, quieter, and just plain feel alot newer. Its a big part of the reason my engine is still running strong despite the mileage...

I have W211, 2005 E500. Only 170000 miles now. It burn a lot of oil, every 500 miles needs to add 1 quart 0W-40 oil. And the SBC system failed one time that almost kill me because it lost brake power when driving on the street. And the air suspention are stupid design that easy to fail. Other than that it is very beautiful car.

W211 is more affordable for a college like me. I have to drive to university and work everyday so I will need really a nice car. I’m sick of my new 2015 Hyundai Sonata not only it’s boring but new registration cost more and maintenance cost a little more than older Mercedes-Benz too since it use complicated computer for the engine on a Hyundai.

i had 2007 e350, it was a dream, very nice and smooth except that "272" engine problems, now i have E250 of 2012, m271 avantgarde, man this is much better that my previous merc.
@@snggarageeng ur right that 211 had its uniqueness in looking, coming to w212 it starts to look like most modern car models, that Mercedes identity begun to get lost from there, like even merging headlight on facelift models to date, that made e class loose its true identity, i guarantee you, split lights will come back in future, just like iphone 5 style coming back in iphone 12 going forward
until i drive a W212...but to be sincere there is something supernatural about W211..it speaks to your soul when you drive it

I'm about to sell my beloved 2006 W211 220Cdi estate. It stills runs super smoothly at 560k km with the original engine and gearbox. Air suspension and headlights has been expensive to maintain though. Was planning on a W212 but it sucks if it feels cheap. Consider going back to Volvo but the super smooth ride of the benz is addictive.
I don't know what this guy is talking about it feeling cheap. My 212 interior feels excellent and in my opinion looks much better than the 211, but appearance is of course subjective.
@@macaroniboy91 I just purchased a 2015 -W212 4matic wagon with 80,000 . All the maintenance done at dealer -one owner, New Air Bags. Had it for almost a month-I gave the 211 - 2008 4matic wagon to my son-he has 180,000 on it and he loves the car. I did replace the air bags and compressor with arnot air bag replacements on the 211.. The 211 is more of a solid ride. I like the 212-it seems lighter-and more nimble-The thing I don't like is the ECO Button. I am still trying ECO but another thing that I don't care for. Everything else is nice on the 212-the seats seem more like a sport seat-not quite as comfy as the two 211 seats.
I'm thinking early W211 with M113, 722 transmission, coil over conversion, and SBC warranty work is the pick of W211. E55K would be nice but oil pump O-ring will rot away and cause oil pressure problem.

W212 pre-facelift is THE most gorgeous estate car ever.
W211 is much less appealing in my opinion
Lot of bias in this video, I love them both and more partial to the W211 but the W212 is an excellent vehicle and a great value proposition. It feels more substantial and more luxurious than the W211, also very reliable for a modern day luxury car. However. it doesn't feel as solid or well built as the W211. The W211, although well proportioned and great looking, feels dated by now, especially the pre- facelift models.

@@snggarageeng They're great cars, I prefer the facelift 2012+ models the most. Not crazy about the interior on the early models, very cheap for an MB.

Sold my w211 & got the w212 than the w213. Simply the w212 was better to drive over rough roads & more solid build quality.

Disagree Big time, I had W211 and now I have a W212. W212 has better build quality, faster transmission, Better grunt and better interior. Mostly a better engine with better performance. Your comment section says it all.

I have a brabus w211 and have owned a e55 in the past. I loved that car so much that i had to scratch the itch and buy another 5 years later. Prior to buying it i drove a friends 212 and i just didn't feel right or as comfortable in it. Wasn't a fan of the lay out so went ahead and bought this w211. However that is only my opinion and im sure many people would of been the opposite as both are great cars in there own right

Noways 124 was the last real e class. From 210 the crown was lost for profits.
I absolutely love my 2010 w212. Encountered the subframe issue but that one was fully covered by Mercedes. Also had the timing chain replaced...at almost 200.000 km's it was an expensive thing but hey....shit happens. Right now i have to work on the suspension but i will do that bit by bit. Overall the car never had major issues so far...the car is getting old so ill take replacements for granted and ill will keep this one for a long time.

my 2005 320cdi just feels better and the cdi has been bullet proof only 2 injectors after 240k km and some glowplugs. but i maintain my car properly i feel the 212 is boring and feels like it belongs in a vauxhall. also Stage1 with 260/600nm is more than enough for me and the 648 is reliable and easy to wrench on
Also i built a 124 with 270cdi. i will never go anything newer than 211 . Im only waiting for sbc to go out but there is companys renovating them for 400-500 euro here in EU

I had every E class since w123. W212 is the best. Its boxy, solid like the w124 but more engaging than any E class apart from the w213.

I own a w211 e220cdi from 2005 for 14 years now, and it currently has 460k km.
Man, I have abused this car so much that i have broken 5 power steering pumps while doing donuts 🤣. Aside from that and the sbc being replaced free of charge, this car delivers every day.

@SNG Garage Eng standart classic level suspension, which proved to be a lot better than the sagging suspension on the Elegance and Avantgarde levels.
Transmission is 5G as it is a late 05 model.
I hear you brother. My 2004 E240 is about to hit 400k. Have had since new. Had an 2014 250d X218 Shooting brake, gave it away, hated it. A 2016 350d GL, gave that away. Absolutely love the W211. Approaching 20 years, 400k km, runs like new. Bulletproof class.
Recently bought a 2009 E350 4Matic and drives very well, Interior feels great and quiet. The Harman Kardon sound system was disappointing. I'm OK with the exterior looks of the W212, and agreed that the interior feels too cheap. Specially because most of them don;t have the wood option

The 211 with the SBC breaking system, is MB most dangerous design fault ever. I’ve had one & I know. 😤
I have to agree, had a 2004 and 2005 e class and a 2014 e class. The W211 rides better where the w212 crashes more over rough roads, allowing thuds and shakes into the cabin that a W211 never would. The electric steering of the W212 is way too light and lifeless. W211 brakes more progressive. The w211 5g even switches gear more smoothly than the 7g. For me W211 wins on all fronts apart from technology in the car with no Bluetooth, DAB and sat nav. No doubt the W212 is also faster. And the w212 dashboard could come straight from a Ford or Vauxhall, you could never say that about a w211

Facelift W211 Yes. Prefacelift W211 No, as it was proven to be quite problematic with rust issues and SBC Braking system (I lost braking in the mountains). I had the 2005 E320 and it wasnt good. I now have 2009 E350 AMG Sport Package and its better in every way. Stay away from 2006 and 2007 W211 as they have balance shaft issues. Do your research

What’s a balance shaft
It's a large sprocket which has a chain rotating on it. It controls vibration on the V6 M272's in prefacelift W211's, mainly 06. Similar to a timing chain set up. Mercedes sourced the wrong metal for some of the sprockets, the metal was too weak and caused the teeth on the sprockets to wear out prematurely...within as little as 40K miles. It's a 5-6k engine out repair which should have been covered under recall but largely isn't. Most of them fortunately don't have the defect, but its prevalent enough...
When my SBC went, I just took it to Mercedes for their 25 year/unlimited mile warranty. Replaced it for me free of charge and I was back on the road in my Benz the next week.
As for the rust issues, I’ve had every panel under my 03’ out and the rear quarter panel is the only spot with any rust, and this car has been a Minnesota car it’s whole life. So, I’m still unsure about the rust comment, maybe in neglected cars or ones parked for extended periods, but the two issues you listed are very easily rectified.
The bigger glaring issue for W211’s is dumping their rear subframe by snapping off the mounting bolts in their mounting bosses (a job that requires cutting open the frame to access the retaining nut). However, an easy out set and a new OEM bolt managed to fix mine when it did so, so it could be easy, could be a nightmare.
I have pre face lift late 2005 in UK. There is no rust on it at all and they are not known for rust , the bad time for rust on mercs was from 1998-2002. My car has done 160k and SBC still going strong. In past 7 years its needed nothing apart from springs all round, it never fails me. An SBC failure has never been reported, the brake issue in the mountains must have been a maintenance problem.
W211 is the best i have a 2002 E240! with 247000km still drives like new❤️

couldnt have said more incorrect information? the W212 fixed all problems that the W211 had, and people by far love the W212, the W211 i good, but the W212 is just better. The W212 isnt the start of cheap quality Mercedes cars but it fixed mostly every problem the W211 had. The W212 by far is the Best E class there is and there is no arguing in that.
And the 212 face lift is the prettiest by far of all previous e classes. A very stupid thing to say it is the ...'most hated'.
W212 is, from what I get from owners, seem more reliable than w211 mechanically, except the engine, where w211's 3.2 v6 is way more reliable.
Personally my 2 issues with w212 are the terrible interior quality which also doesn't last, and the paint's orange peel compared to w211 glassy smooth paintjob.
W212 any day. Best E-Class ever made in my opinion. Still a beast on the streets today in 2023.

@@snggarageeng6.3 has the edge on horsepower, 5.5K has the edge on torque. Torque = acceleration so it stands to reason the 5.5K would be faster as it’s got more torque.
