  • These 1-2-3 Trim Bands for rod building will help you get some practice on single turn trim bands (also called single wrap trim bands) & wrap inlays at the same time. It is a good practice wrap and it also looks nice for use on a build. You can make fewer turns between inlay in order to make the trim smaller if you need to. I'm trying for a better visual in this video by using mason's line instead of wrapping thread. It is tough to work with but the larger diameter makes it easier to see what is going on. I think it works well for providing a better visual to follow along with, what do you think? Please let me know in the comments!

Hey Buddy nice to see you here, Joe from (Off The Hook rod and Reel). I generally scuff the blank with scotch bight for that as it makes the thread much easier to control. What your thought?

I usually don't, but there are a lot of people who do. It also should promote better adhesion of the epoxy to the blank. I have done it both ways and I haven't noticed any difference, but I'm also mostly building freshwater rods. I also use small diameter thread. If I were building big game rods, I probably would scuff the blank up a bit in the guide areas.
