Hey Buddy nice to see you here, Joe from (Off The Hook rod and Reel). I generally scuff the blank with scotch bight for that as it makes the thread much easier to control. What your thought?
I usually don't, but there are a lot of people who do. It also should promote better adhesion of the epoxy to the blank. I have done it both ways and I haven't noticed any difference, but I'm also mostly building freshwater rods. I also use small diameter thread. If I were building big game rods, I probably would scuff the blank up a bit in the guide areas.
