Forgotten Hot Rod Reunited With Family After 50 Years!!!

- Earlier this year Matt was able to track down the man who originally hot rodded the 1934 Ford Tudor that Matt purchased from the Schroll Estate. Barry Skelly had modified the car in the 1960s and it was his pride and joy, but due to an expanding family he was forced to sell the car and never saw it again. Matt has been working hard through the summer to get the car back on the road and had planned to meet up with Barry. Unfortunately Barry Skelly passed away August 11th of this year and he was never able to see the car. Barry's son and daughter are coming to the garage today to take a look at their Dads long lost hot rod. Neither of them have ever seen the car and we can't wait to see and hear their reaction...

Matt, that's the best thing you could ever do for these people. I really like the way you guys have looked after this family's history. Excellent job guys. 👍
Thank you so much Michael!
I don't understand why anyone would thumbs down this video, You did an excellent job on the restoration of the vehicle, Then to have the family coming see you, And experience the car, and share memories, is a great way to compete the project. Great job, keep up the great work!
That was a great thing to give the family the painting.
The producers on TV couldn't write a script this good. We'll done ITG you are the "bee's knees"!
Wayno
Awesome! What a great thing to do Matt! True Red Blooded American. 🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍
Thanks to you, and Larry for not doing much to the car, the family was able to connect to their father and grandfather in a way few of us can. In all aspects we are just caretakers of what we surround ourselves with. The fact you want that responsibility of that to someday go back to Barry's family speaks volumes of you as a man. An excellent video to say the least, one that will be hard to duplicate.
Awesome! You made a grown man cry here. 👏
an example of how folks with a passion, a love of a hobby are salt of the Earth..good and decent people who love to share..well done Matt..
Hello ! From minot north dakota. Matt what a wonderful job! I've followed this car from the time you got it uncovered, beautiful, just beautiful! An AWESOME thing you did to keep the history of the original builder's alive as well as the family's, the picture gift was just mind blowing the family will treasure it always I'm sure. I hope that family watched the episodes ,or that ITG ,might have made them a copy of those episodes, can't say enough ,WELL DONE IRON TRAP GARAGE !
Great ending to this story. This is one happy car and Every time you talk about it or show the car you get a smile on your face. From the minute you got in the car you had a smile on your face and so did the family. I bet they will smile most of the way home talking about that car and the art that you gave them will keep putting a smile on their face. No matter what happens to this car when your in your 70's like I am and think about it you will have a smile on you face. No matter what you do or build from here on out , you will never have a car that makes you as happy as this one. Thank you for bringing us a long . In doing what you have done with this car you have honored it and yourself .
:;
Matt, with all due respect, you are a man of great worth, and this video is a blessed moment. A tip of the hat. 👍
A truly fitting end to the rebuild of the 34 Tudor Matt and Mike. It's was great that the family was able to see and ride in the 34 Matt, their reaction was priceless.💖💖👍🍻
I think it is great that you had the family experience the car. I do believe you are an awesome advocate and carrier of the torch for hot rodding. I believe the spark was truly passed on with the ride. Thanks for keeping the dream alive.
Great to get the back story from the family. Now that that you have given it a second life, a new saga begins. I hope that you write it’s history down to preserve it with the car for the future.
I keep a folder of stuff for each of these cars now to keep the past, present, and future history we have in one place!
Matt thank you for taking us all along for the story, ride and series!
You've done the "CAR and the family Proud" Con/Grats!!!!!
What a nice family. Very touching to see them talk about Barry and his love for this car. In one of your videos there was a discussion over whether to leave the spare tire on the back or take it off. I couldn't help but notice in the old photos that Barry took the spare tire off.
I have come, just from watching your vids, to expect your generosity, towards the family. Bless you Matt! Really brightened my morning.
You have really done this whole project justice.
It was obvious that the family were able to connect with their father / grandfather on a new level .
Very cool to watch and very generous of you.
This car has landed exactly where it needs to be. Great job!
As the nephew said you did it justice.
It just doesn't get any better than this Matt. Well done, sir !!
Thank you for watching!
Great video !!! Giving the picture to the family was a really cool gesture
It’s the least we could do!
Awesome video, I can't get this smile off my face.
You did a wonderful job did a wonderful thing for the family
It's awesome that they got to reunite with the car. Hats off to you and everyone who helped out. Very much enjoyed watching the entire series of this beautiful 34 Ford.
That was really sweet Matt. You're a good guy.
WOW !
Hi Matt,
That was a great video !
Those people were so lucky to have that chance to ride in that car !
What a connection to their past you gave to them !
I know you enjoyed it just from the smile on your face as you drove them around.
GOOD job Matt.
I think you should get some smaller copies of that picture of the car and offer them in your merc. store.
Be Safe And Well
Matt, this shows your character, by including the family and the good memories. My hat goes off to you. Best video ever.
Thank you so much Alden!
Wonderful thing you done Matt.
BRAVO! You Sir are a great 'Ambassador' to/for the Hot Rod world. That you cared enough to have the family come to visit, and drive them around is wonderful, and something that they will never forget.
Awesom car , nice of you Matt taking them on a ride in the 34 /regards from Norway . Love your videos
Good job, Matt! I’m sure it was amazing for them to ride in the car.
So awesome that you did this for them, had to be amazing for them to see the car. You are truly a kind soul. Keep on keeping old rods alive, and sharing them with everyone.
This was great. Brought back memories of my Dad and some of the cars we worked on together. Fantastic!
Really great heartfelt video! Makes all that work worth it Matt.
This was a very nice wrap up to a great story. Seeing the expression on their faces and hearing the enthusiasm in their voices was terrific. I'm so glad they got to see the car they grew up hearing so much about.
just watching this got me all choked up
Family is so very important, and those of us who have good families are incredibly fortunate. Matt, you have given these folks a glimpse into their family history that they could never have gotten, otherwise. You should take at least as much pride in yourself for this gift, as you do in your work on the cars, themselves!
Hey Matt you "done good". Thanks for sharing. We all enjoyed the journey.
Class act Matt regarding the painting.
Good on you Matt...nice to see a bit of humanity still exists..👍
Great story, great ending. Loved following this journey. Thanks for sharing.
It turned out so well Matt. And damn it sounds good
This was just super cool !! God bless you for what you do, that family will remember this forever !! I knew there is still good people left in this world. Outstanding job on the car !! Love watching your channel, and everything you do . I'll be here watching for more.
For many 2020 has been a very difficult year and to this poor family our hearts go out to them. Inviting them to see something and be able to touch a part of their's family history no doubt brings some closure. Well done, Matt.
Best ITG episode yet. The family’s reaction & emotion to see the car & the connection with their dad was touching even for an old greasy gear head. Well done! 🤘
Amazing story thanks for telling it.
The cherry moment was gifting the Family the artwork. That is just over the top , Matt!
Gifting the CAR would have been over the too... Gifting the photo was a given
Awesome video, Matt...Miles of smiles, all around
What a great tribute for their Dad. My Dad was an old hot rod guy (his first car was a 34) and loved red too. Well done Matt!
That was a great story, I sure wish I could find My 39 chevy I sold back in NJ in 67 when I got out of the Army !
Nice job given the picture to the family as great
My dad sold his 62 corvette when I was born in 63 I still hear about it.
That was fantastic Matt , it compelled me to comment on your super theme and the great work youve done to keep the history alive !! Very cool !!
Your work and channel has also helped re affirm and support my plans to resurect my Dads history with Ford.
He did an apprenticeship at the Ruge plant in the 20s and after the sabotage was one of the hand picked crew to rebuild the still un proven A engine , he hand machined the cam for that engine.
So thanks for the inspiration. Kiwi Sam
Looks better every time I see it
Very nice Matt and Mike!
What a cool video. Love what you do at Iron Trap by keeping the original old Sokol ways alive. My dream...thanks
Nice touch for the Skelly family.Drive the wheels off it and maybe for the future updated brakes and steering
Awesome video, it was a heartwarming at its bests.
Very nicely done, and adds a whole lot of perspective to the history of the car, and that it is more than just an old car. These stories run through this family's lives, and rightfully so
:^)
Awesome car, awesome story. Thanks for sharing it.
No words necessary !!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Very nice job and that was very Cool giving them a ride...like you're video!
Full circle hot rod😎. Like the term “gobro “ you might be onto something 📸
I thoroughly enjoyed this series from beginning to end. It`s a shame that Barry couldn`t be there for the reveal. I`m sure he would have been happy with it.
Wow made my eyes water to, great job Matt and co !
Us too! What a great day!!
Great episode
I enjoyed seeing it come together it's a amazing car and a great story behind it I'm glad that you are going to drive it and not let it sit great ending
Great video Matt, probably best yet!
Wow, thanks!
That is so cool you had them come look at it and give them closer. I would love to do the same with my 60 karmann ghia but haven't been able to find any of the old owners it was a show car back in the 80s I have made it look like a 70s car now with heavy metal flake and lace panels on the roof. Love your car they are all made to be enjoyed drive them all and have fun
Nice car! Good work
Nice.
Awesome content,,

my very first car was a 1934 2dr sedan painted metal flake dark green with hopped up ford 390 3 speed, paid $110, man we had fun, till my dad came home from overseas, then sold to a friend for $110

Did the skelly family try buy it back?
If that car could talk the story it would have tell she one cherry red hotrot
Matt you could of did one more thing at least ask if they would wanted to drive it around the block .
Matt I predict that young man will buy that car from you someday.
👍👍👍👍👍
That was so cool to see the family there and riding in the car. Giving the 1 off drawing to them was awesome.
...and THAT is what makes ITG distinct from every other channel in this hobby. Well done guys!
Thanks Matt! We’re trying to keep it truly “reality” tv. No fake drama, unrealistic deadlines or faked builds. This is what the hobby is really all about to us! Thanks for watching!
Well done, Matt. Very well done.
Wow Matt. Made me cry a bit. I love my family, too. Cars have always been a focus .. in every branch of our family. You can tell this family was also very close. God bless them all. God bless their dad .. and God bless you. What a great moment. Thanks for sharing it .. with all of us.
Thank you so much for watching Jamie!
This is the kind of story that restores my faith in people.
Thank you Dale!
I was smiling the whole time! Such a great ending to the series. Thanks guys for taking us along!
That was awesome of you to give them the painting! You are an amazing person MATT!
cherryred hot rod what a perfect name
The smile on your face as you drove the family around says it all.
Matt...I love this video...was fighting back tears the whole time(Sshhh don't tell anyone). Man you can be proud of this one...lot of thought and time went into this project...you hit the nail on the head...the Hobby needs more young guys like you to fall in love with traditional Hot Rods/Customs...Thank you for what you do.
The grandson gets it and was into it, would be cool to see him take ownership if you ever sold it.
This is cool. Very good of you. When I was 5, I was devastated to find out my dad once owned a ‘36 Ford.... but he had to sell it to pay for my older sister’s birth a couple years before I was born. I remember telling Dad I wished he had kept the car and left my sister at the hospital!! Lol
Hahaha I bet that conversation happened a couple times here too!
It is a common story. I sold a full fendered 34 Ford roadster in 1990, a year after my first son arrived. That sale took a big chunk off of the mortgage. That's life.
