I had this done one year ago...I had just moved into the "serious" level, so my cardiologist sent me to an excellent specialist, who performed this remarkable procedure...Very smooth, no problems, and my new valve will likely last longer than I will (age 77). do not even hesitate to do this, if recommended!...Having a seriously clogged Aortic valve give you a survival rate of 50% after two years, without replacement. I was in hospital at 6am, out by 5pm! Amazing.
Yes, stents are the gold standard now for both PCIs (heart attacks) and TAVIs. (aortic stenosis). Before PCIs became a thing, you just took your chances with a clot buster (fibrinolysis) which may or may not have had an effect.
I also had this surgery one month short of my 80th birthday (8/22/24). I had severe stenosis of the aortic valve. Once they are sure you have severe stenosis, it's a no brainer, you have to have this TAVR procedure. If you don't, the clock is ticking and in 2 years, you probably will not be here any more. Now, I feel great. Doctor said I can do anything I want which means, there are no restrictions on how hard you ask your heart to work. It is truly amazing surgery and I only stayed in the hospital 2 days.

I have quite few questions 1. What are the chances that this guide wire might rupture the blood vessel artery? 2. How do you know that the ballooning site of this introducer sheath is at the site of aortic valve?
this is based on my own knowledge but I'm sure there's a micro camera attached to the introducer sheath or guide wire that allows the surgeons to see what is going on
Chances of a dissections of the aorta are fairly low, and the procedure is guided via fluoroscopy that is like an X-ray, but better, and in real time, also the position is confirmed with ecocardiography. There's no cameras inside the catheter, all is guide by fluoroscopy and ecocardiography.

For anyone wondering, open heart surgery still has the best outcomes. By comparison and in the absence of specific information about the patient, this has a 30% higher mortality rate
Your 30% is misleading. It sounds like the TAVR has a mortality rate of 30%, which isn't the case. I believe it's around 2%. I assume your 30% is based on SAVR vs. TAVR, and not the actual surgery outcome of either.
My husband replaced valve 3 years ago and not very lucky. Now doktor planning to do again. I don't know exactly open hard surgery or other way. All I know need to be done something😢
This is literally just an artificial valve. Instead of having a open heart surgery, they use the femoral artery to place the catheter which is safe and effective for at least 10 years. Usually patients of older group gets this procedure done instead of open heart surgery. Less complications associated with this.

Why thro femoral artery
It's the largest artery in the body. You need the large area to get the replacement in there.

The pumping of the heart opens it
