I had an aortic valve replacement 17years ago, I'm happy that I chose mechanical valve its a once of surgery. I'm on warfarin for life, I have an 8 year old boy and expecting my 2nd born. I'm a happy soul.
I had also an aortic valve stenosis and also chose mechanical valve and just like you, will be on Coumadin for the rest of my life,And I’m checking my INR every Tuesday and I’ll be forever grateful to God for giving me a second life, for how many more years?only God knows so let’s all live our life to the fullest and let’s all share kindness to everyone cuz life is a blessing and hold on to your Faith,God loves us all.Stay safe everyone and God bless!
Hi there, I am so happy to hear that you have kids with mechanical valve. I have aortic mechanical valve and I am planning my pregnancy. Where do you live?
I had a double valve replacement (Aortic and mitral) in 2017. I was not brave enough to watch all these videos before my surgery. I went through the most, being soo far from my family. Spent 3 months in hospital with barely having visitors. Went through mental health toll💔 Did so bad in university 😢 Fast forward 6 years later, I'm doing so good i have my 2 years old daughter 👶 👩🍼 and doing my honours in university 😊 i can't wait to start working and spoil myself enjoying my 2nd well deserved life with my little family 👨👩👧
Thank you for making me smile. I just found out 2 days ago I'll need open heart surgery for my severe aortic stenosis. It seems no matter what there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks.
@@cherylschumaker1366 I know you were referring to the OP, but seeing my old post has me wanting to update. I had my surgery last Monday. Was sent home on Saturday and have been healing up at a rate that has surprised everyone. My condition was much more advanced than thought and by surgery time my ejection fraction was barely 10%. Then I had issues breathing and was on a respirator for over 24 hours after the surgery. My prognosis was grim until a sudden turnabout on Wednesday. I can only imagine how hard the OP had it. That experience, though traumatic, should always serve as a proud source of strength. Thanks for making me smile again OP.
I am 73 and had an aortic valve and part of the aorta replaced. Had a bicuspid valve discovered 5 years ago and had surgery 4 1/2 years later. Went great out in 5 days and playing tennis in 9 weeks. No pain no complications. Went to St Luke’s in Kansas City. Great hospital.
Hello neighbor! I just spent 22 days in June in St. Luke’s, 16 of those days in the Cardiac Intensive Care, code blue one time, difficult open heart surgery for 2 aortic valves removed and a sutured in new valve, the surgeon told me later that “we thought we had lost you 2 times”. The 2 aortic valves removed were my natural valve that went bad on me in 2017 at which time I had a TAVR. And then ….I had to have a pacemaker 6 days later. And they must have bought me enough versed to keep me from remembering everything. 😇 I am 72 and I sure am not bouncing back to normal like you have. The incident that caused my code was a malfunction in my swan ganz catheter and I started hemorrhaging into my airway. This is a very rare occurrence but the mortality rate is 78%. They truly saved my life. Was rushed back to the OR to fix it. But I want to join you in singing th praises of St.Luke’s. EVERYONE was so professional and caring. I would encourage any of my friends and family to get into the St. Luke’s system. Great hospital, great physicians, great NP’s , great care staff, oh I could go on and but I better shut up now, I get to rambling. 🎉🎉💔 2:57
Congratulations on successful procedure and thank you for sharing. I would like ask a question. Did your energy level and breathing return to normal after procedure? I know you must take precautions due to the blood thinner, but other than that were you able to recover your strength and stamina? Thank you again for sharing your experience.
Dr. Chikwe performed my quadruple bypass in November of 2018. She was head of cardiology at Stony Brook Hospital on Long Island NY. She was caring and professional. My recovery was fast with no complications. I am very grateful that she was my surgeon. Dr. Chikwe is a wonderful person and doctor.
Hi Mike, Great, great, great to hear that you had such a great surgical result with Dr. Chikwe!!! Congrats on the fast recovery and no complications. Wonderful!!!
Dr Chikwe preformed the same procedure on me 4/1/2019. She handled me like I was family. I knew after talking to her, I was in the best of care. She said my bypass was textbook, and was very routine for her. This may sound crazy but I was never nervous about having this surgery. She is a wonderful person and doctor. I say it in that order because she saw me as a person not a patient. If you need heart surgery and can get to her she is the best chance you will have, I am so sorry she left Long Island. But our loss is California’s gain!
Hi My Name Is Robert - I Had Heart Surgery On May 4th 2022 By Doctor Chikwe and Her Awesome Team at Cedar Sinai - I Will Tell You I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER ! Thank You Dr Chikwe !! I Have Much Better Energy as well as Much Better Sleep ! I AM GRATEFUL !! Robert.
I had 3 mitral and aortic valves replacement. When I was 17 I had mechanical valves. I would not recommend young people to get mechanical valves because it will affect your pregnancy. You are totally dependent on the Coumadin medication (rat poison) and my INR can never be at a right level. I didn’t have much of a life. Can’t travel because I have to get my medication adjusted. The mechanical valves last for 12 years. As I was working out, I developed a stroke. My second valves replacement I had my two valves replaced with animal valves. I felt like a free bird, no medications needed. I travel as much as I want. It last me 15 years. I start getting shortness of breath and knew it was time to replace my valve. I picked up Covid in December and that made it worst. I develop pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs). I was on a blood thinner so I chose to get the J&J Covid vaccine with no side effects. So my plan was to get the TVAR procedure for my 3rd surgery but unfortunately both valves need to be replaced and currently they only have the TVAR for aortic replacement not mitral. You can only have the TVAR done once. I went through another open heart surgery recently, got tissue valves again. I am now 45yo and still alive. 12 years ago TVAR didn’t exist. 10 years from now there will be greater technology to replace valves. It has been quite a journey but don’t be scared. The cardiac surgeons are really good and this is now a common procedure. There is comfort when you put your faith in God. I have a will written out and all, but it is not my time. Go into surgery with a positive attitude and look forward to what you will be able to do after surgery. The recovery process can be long and painful but you will heal and life will move on. God bless!
Thank you born with hole in heart valve patched multiple times then Ross procedure with mechanical valve then 10 yeas later moldy valve in my donor valve well its been 21 years for the mechanical valve and about 11 for the melody valve / stent. The melody valve is regurgitating more then normal they want to go in and remove the melody valve as much as possible because it's only 8mm big to relieve pressure from heart RV. Put bigger stent or replace valve if they can't cut the stent out I have been treated for endocarditis about 4 years ago nun was found growing but pick line to heart at home for 6 weeks it glad antibiotic worked I been open about 6 times already really nervous with all the stuff going on in today's world don't know if there in the best interest for me or for there program agenda any in put any one
How many times can you get a pig valve replaced? I had surgery in 2017 and I fear I already feel symptoms of shortness of breath, and always freak myself out if I need surgery, but I was always told you can only have 1 more surgery after the first.. thanks
The heart ♥️ is incredibly made THATS what my physiology teacher said . The heart ❤️ can always be worked on however the other organs like liver and kidneys remain more challenging . Stay blessed everyone. one beat at a time .
Dr. Joanna was such an inspiration. My aortic valve leaks, so its good to know that repairing the valve is better than replacing the valve if possible. I'm also in Afib and have an aneurysm, so all of this can be fixed at one time. Its good to know that all these symptoms are common. Eases my mind a lot.
Going on 6 1/2 years after aorta replacement due to a bicuspid situation that had gone undetected for sometime. Tremendous surgeon, team and facility at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, CA installed a bovine valve. Still doing fine but know a TAVR procedure will be upcoming at some point in the next several years. Thank you.
Bovine valve life long...how many years sis? I had mitral valve replacement (mechanical TTK Chitra valve)done 2012..now I am 23 years old. I taking warfarin 2mg per day...and Ecosprin 75 mg, lasilactone. I had one abortion..incase I am pregnant now stoped warfarin and I take enaxparin sodium injection 0.6 ml..now doctor says my mechanical valve moment is less...so reoperation now..I choose biological valve sis...
Rose,i chose a bovine leaflet aortic valve replacement 6 yrars ago and now i"m in trouble. i need another valve because of the leaflets degeneration. i am eighty years old and in good shape. At the time they didn"t know the longevity of the bovine. Make sure you have a yearly Ekco.

I had a bovive Aortic valve replacement and Mitral valve repair nearly 10 years ago at age 63. Now the valve is failing and my Cardiologist put me on Beta Blockers. I now have symptoms and am hoping that I can avoid open heart surgery and have the Trans catheter procedure.
Awesome hospital, Cedar Sinai! I underwent a 3rd open heart surgery on Feb2021 of a mechanical valve performed by a one of the best heart surgeon Dr. Ramzy at Cedar-Sinai Hospital, LA. He surely took great care of me. I had my two other open heart surgeries in 2010 and 2019 at Good Samaritan Hospital, LA. In 2019, the heart physician at Good Samaritan Hospital who implanted a heart valve replacement in me, and it was the WRONG SIZE. I am still upset about the matter which caused more damage and TAVR, I will not trust that type of procedure, it caused me more problem. Avoid that TAVR procedure, it is a lazy way of fixing a valve. Dr. Ramzy did a great performance, was very caring and took care of me until my return back to Guam this year 2021. God Bless him! I will be visiting him on May2022.
My mom had biological valve 11 yrs back , today shefound out that 2nd surgery is needed , she is in a emotinal breakdown since she is mentally very weak and very afraid of surgeries . Can u give me ur experience , i have to console my mom
Great to hear Rich! We are glad to hear you enjoyed Dr. Chikwe's clinical experiences and research about life expectancy and heart valve disease therapies.
I got mine because ANCA vasculitis caused kidney, heart valve and lung damage. Getting a heart valve replacement was the key because it let my body get enough oxygen for it to respond to the kidney work and the lungs to start working properly again. Presurgery prognosis was about three months. After, I'm about four months short of four years on.
I had an aortic resection and valve replacement 10 years ago when I was 57. Currently my valve has a moderate to severe leak. Because I am 67 many recommend a redo surgery. One surgeon did recommend TAVR. I am in good shape and am weighing open heart again during this vital part of my life vs. later. If I got TAVR now it could last 7 years, but I would be at same cross roads. Love to hear from someone in same boat on how they decided. Also interested if anyone has seen this addressed in any videos or panel discussions. Thanks

My mother is suffering from severe aortic stenosis and I'm confused about choosing the procedure. Tavr is considered to be best option but the longevity of the valve replaced cannot be assured and also stroke risks. I'm worried about doing an open heart but it assures the longevity
With surgery, patients have a chance to live and live a normal life. Without surgery, patients can struggle with symptoms, health risk and death. There is risk for surgery but that risk is very well managed. We encourage you to discuss this with your mom's medical team. Fyi, we just learned of a patient who had TAVR at 100 years old.
My Aortic valve was replaced at Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital, Coimbatore in India in 1996 by veteran crdio thoracic surgen, Proff. Dr V Nandakumar. Since then, I have been taking Warferin daily. At present I don't have any problem.
Adam - you won’t remember me but you provided some very valuable information when I had a a bicuspid valve replaced in 2012. I have a cow valve that I suspect is starting to fail - weakness in legs, hard to walk up stairs without panting, no endurance, etc. I have an appointment with my PCP this coming Friday.
Hey James, Great to hear from you again!!! Although, I wish it was under better circumstances. I'm so sorry to hear that your aortic valve may be starting to fail. Please keep me updated. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know!!!
James,i made the mistake of choosing a bovine aortic valve from direct flow because at the time ,six years ago the odds of the other valve i researched had a 30 percent failure rate. My leaflets have created a stenosis and i have just had a T.E.E. and now a cath to see how they can replace the valve. I am hoping they can drop another valve in it"s place
@@frankieraymond - I have my valve replaced with a cow valve as I did. Of want to be on blood thinners. It has been 10 years to the day. Hello from Wisconsin👋🏽 I found out 2 weeks ago that there is mild valvular disease in my aortic and tricuspid valves, and mild to moderate mitral valve regurgitation. My cardiologist is not concerned about it right now, but some people are telling me that I should get a second opinion.
Hi Felisa, Great to connect with you. You may want to read our new free eBook, "5 Critical Facts for Heart Valve Surgery Patients". There is some interesting data in the eBook about second opinions. Here is the link to download the free eBook - www.heart-valve-surgery.com/5-critical-questions-ebook. Hope that helps!
I've got a moderate aortic leak. Doctor wants to do a biologic valve replacement, says I don't have underlying issues so recovery will be a slam dunk and greater health and vigor shall return.
I had a mechanical Medatronic aortic valve and about 4 inches of Aortic neck replacement 5 years ago. I was like a teenager at 55 but a collapsed Lower descending artery or the "widow maker" as known by surgeons and doctors 1 year later led to a very painful and near-death heart attack, I had two stents put in to stop the closure. and after having a large operation and a heart attack in 12 months consisting of two near fatal incidents. The issue I had after this was the mental toll it had on me and no-one, I spoke to in the medical world said this should be a concern to them or me. Cardiologists basically bypassed this issue with me, and I was left to fend for myself. I was damaged by the experience both physically and mentally but never had any assistance for my mental well-being. I went on to have two strokes 2 years later and this again has left me with stroke issues but as it was not a focal stroke, I do not have outward symptomology, but I suffer short term memory loss anxiety and so on. look after your mind not just your heart.
Hi Aussie, Thanks for sharing your story with us. We are sorry to learn all that you have been through. As part of our patient advocacy, we have a keen focus on the before, during and after phases of cardiac surgery. This is a challenge for many as up to 25% of patients suffer from cardiac depression following surgery. Luckily, we have found that select cardiac centers are really searching for answers to help patients during their care. Here's a video with the team at Northwestern Medicine all about the patient mind before, during after an operation. Perhaps you might like to watch it. I had a mechanical valve when I was 20. I was asymptomatic (in terms of pain) when the doctor told me to take surgery as it was enlarging my aorta and heart. He said to me -"you are not gonna make it to your 25th birthday with the present condition". I was born with a leaky valve, and from childhood, I knew this day would come but never imagined it would be at age 20. It was a hard decision to come up with, but now I am 24. For most of the part, I don't listen to the clicks, and when I hear them, it scares the shit out of me. I have noticed it gets loud during stressful days and clicking constantly increases anxiety. I would still recommend a mechanical valve over an organic valve the medication related to the valve become a habit in weeks. I knew I was on the younger side and would probably need another surgery in the future, and I would choose mechanical again over organic. But on the bright side, I am much more active and enjoy going to the gym did a 110lb bench press today.......... I hope this will help my younger folks understand their condition more.
Hi, I hope you are well. I would recommend you take advice from a couple of other surgeons/ cardiologists. I know the feeling. Before making the decision, I thought this isn't a cure. I have to go through such intensive surgery and live with so many restrictions in life. But trust me, it was the best decision. You can ask any doubts.
i was scared for my mother valve replacement at the age of 42 i thought she is too young for this, but you inspired me bro, thank you she is currently in hospital she has been operated 2 days ago, and i was searching about life after valve replacement and i found your comment,, it motivated me very much i will show your comment to my mom to motivate her 😭
I know a guy with the exact same story. Doc told him he'd be dead at 25 when he was 20. But he still refused the surgery. Today hes pushing 80. Makes you wonder
What a great video!! I'm facing bypass surgery plus aortic valve replacement. I'm going into the cardiac cath lab next week and deciding which procedures my docs will go forward with. I have familial hypercholesterolimia and so many of my direct family members have had open heart surgery and valve replacements since 1974. My dad got the Starr Valve back in the 70's and Dr. Starr was part of that surgical team. It was a loud valve to be sure but I loved listening to it when I laid my head on dad's chest!! I feel so fortunate to live near a really exceptional group of cardiologists here in Corvallis Oregon, home of Oregon State University. Thanks again for this informative video!!
I was diagnosed with moderate to severe Tricuspid Valve Regurgitation 11/2023. I have a cardiologist & also went to U of M, for a consult, but was not really symptomatic. Now 10/2024 I have been experiencing shortness of breath & fluid build up in my abdomen for a couple weeks. I have been placed on Spironolactone 25mg. daily with Lasix prn. I am using both , but still symptomatic. A TEE ( transesophageal echocardiogram is to be scheduled. Any insight, recommendations for a Tricuspid Valve or a place for the most experience with the Tricuspid Valve?.

I had my Aortic valve replacement in 1981and for the past year it was missing beats, not regular as it was all the years. I take TENORMIN and once had Generic Tenormin with in 48 hours I had heart failure and landed 10 days in the hospital. I lost memory of the 10 days as I was given hospital medications and not taking that I was taking for the past 39 years. Since then heart is irregular beating.
I had an aortic valve surgery 18 years ago. I’ve recently been having sharp and pressured pain in my heart area. When I went to the er they said it was nothing and to just take Tylenol for the pain. I’m really scared, I want to live, my daughter was just born 1 month ago. I’m thinking if I should get a 2nd heart valve replacement surgery..?
Drs thank you for this upload. Do you think that Drinking Arjuna Tea will help with leaky heart valve. Also there are acupressure points for helping with leaky heart valves.
Hi, Unfortunately, we do not have any information regarding how tea can impact leaky heart valves. Considering that heart valve disease is structural, we are not not aware of teas being used to treat heart valve disease.
I had aortic valve replaced 11 years ago and I had indeed atrial fibrillation after the surgery. But they treated me and after a few days it was normalised. And I choose a tissue valve due to the sound it makes. So will need a new one on short term.

You should Ask your Dr about the Watchman. I had the TAVR implant and in about 3 months I had the Watchman implant nd in another 3 months I began a baby aspirin 1/day for life.
what is the bright line for repair/replace vs not. I heard it's symptoms. If you have symptoms repair it, if not leave it? Is gaining 5 lbs of edema a day considered a symptom?
The worst thing is I can't even ask questions without pissing off my surgeons! They don't tell you anything but expect you to just accept whatever they choose!
First, do your surgeons have mid-level such as a PA or nurse practitioner who you can ask questions? If not, any chance you can get a second opinion and get information. Going into surgery without feeling comfortable and having your questions answered, is pretty much 1960s versus 2021. Having your questions answered, will improve your comfort level and your recovery.
Hey doctors, its great uplifting video. I just want to know that i had successful mitral valve repair in 2013. Now i had my Echo recently that shows mild regurgitation. Is it common to have mild regurgitation??? Can my valve last for another 25 years?? Now I am 23 years old,,,
In 2000 I had 2 valves (M& A) (Tricuspid repaired) replaced (mechanical) at Cleveland ❤️ Clinic. Now one is calcified. One Dr says yes to surgery, another says no. I called Cleveland ❤️ Clinic & they say yes. My husband’s insurance won’t let me go back to C.C. bc there’s heart Drs here in IL. I’m confused bc MY heart Dr says no to it, BUT HE DID says he’d like to swap them out with tissue valves in case I’d have to have it again (that’s why I’m confused). I’m 64 & have other health issues. I have AVN in my extremities, I had one hip replaced & I’m about to go in for my R shoulder next. I also lost my lrg intestine to the blood supply being cut off too. I have Extensive Family History with Heart Problems! Should I push my Dr for the surgery??
I hope you are doing well now. It is common for insurance to deny per policy first round, but approve upon appeal or appeal of appeal. If (as in your case) you can't get care locally you have a good case for traveling to the place where you can. Be the squeaky wheel! Best of luck to anyone facing that circumstance.

@@GayPelletier Hi Gay, my Dad actually opted to put the procedure on hold since he has been responding well to the meds (entresto) and has no symptoms anymore. They successfully removed the ascitic fluid with no repeat buildup and swelling in the legs has also stopped. How is your Dad doing?

Great question and point. Yes, typically aortic valves that are stenotic are not repaired. On the other hand, aortic valves that are regurgitant (leaky) may be repairable.

Just had AV replacement 5 and CABG months ago. Chose biological valve instead of mechanical valve for many reason despite the fact I know I’ll likely have to get another biological valve in time. Never want to undergo this surgery again but in my job, I can’t risk bleeding so taking warfarin the rest of my life is not an option. 😢
This is the same situation my husband was in almost 12 years ago when he discovered he had a critical stenosis due to a bicuspid valve, and like you, he chose a tissue valve for his AVR due to his occupation because he couldn’t take anticoagulant to and continue his profession. He just saw his cardiologist 2 months ago and he said the valve sounded good. He has an echo later this month which will give a more definitive look at the valve.

Typically mild valve disease does not require heart surgery. We encourage you to discuss this with your doctor. We are aware that there are now clinical trials happening for moderate aortic stenosis.
Great and personal question. This is a decision that should be discussed at length with your sister and her medical team given her age, lifestyle, etc.
I just found out from my Doctor that I have both Aortic & Mitral valves leaking. I also have 4 stents, a pacer, I am 70 years, an asthmatic since 8 years old, diabetic and anemic. I have another Echo scheduled in February, What should I be going over with my Cardiologist for my future. I also have aprox 1-1/2 yrs of battery remaining on my pacer.
Lot going on here Mike. We encourage you to do your research and ask your doctor as many questions as need to bring you comfort about the management and treatment (if needed) for your cardiac condition. Sorry that we can not be of more immediate help to you!
I will soon have surgery to repair/replace an "leaky" (aortic regurgitation) aortic valve. Recent discussions with my surgeon have resulted in three options, repair the valve, a biovalve (pig) or mechanical valve. Both my surgeon and myself prefer repair, but that may not be feasible. The next is the pig valve with the mechanical valve being a last resort. I am 71 (72 in August) and if the pig valve is implanted, does it's "lifetime" depend on how active/inactive I am after surgery? I work out and used to lift weights, but all that will be tempered due to my upcoming surgery. Thanks for any info you might be able to provide.
@@dalt992 went fantastic. Repaired with HAART annuloplasty ring so no mechanical or bio-valve replacement required. Back to lifting weights, cardio and no limits on exercise.
@@Noodlebo In my case it was due to several factors. I have a tricuspid aortic valve and one flap was prolapsed, which means it did not re-close allowing the the unoxygenated blood to back-up in the lower aortic chamber, thus not allowing enough of the fully oxygenated blood to get to where it needed to go, i.e., my lungs. Consequently, without good blood flow back into the lungs, the rest of your body, which then causes a whole new site of issues. If you google it, you'll likely get a much better and clearer description than I've provided here.
I’m 81 years old and need an an aortic valve replacement. Is there an older man who has had this if so i would like to know of your experience. Thanks, Mike
My dad is 88 and just had two stent procedures (8 stents implanted). They went through his radial artery both times. He went home the same day and felt stronger immediately. Next is the pacemaker and then the valve replacement. I'll let you know how he does. Fingers crossed. Do you know if they are going through your femoral artery or your radial artery?
Is anyone familiar with the option she mentioned if tissue valve needs repair second surgery could be avoided by valve inserted through arteries in leg?
I am 49 and have a bicuspid aortic valve which is getting replaced in a few weeks, i am getting a Ross procedure, my arteries are fine after my angiogram so its looking promising, plan B should it not be viable after being opened up is a mechanical valve, although i have a choice of bovine also but so many conflicting stories what is best, i think mechanical should i need it and hope it lasts long enough should i need a future op, technology improves even further as i feel i still have another 20yrs plus in me to give.
I was born with hole in heart valve had multiple surgery in life to patch eventually I had the Ross procedure then a mechanical valve in my left valve its been in me for twenty years little more that's how long they say they last I also have a Melody valve stent put in my other valve and that has been in me for just 10 years little over the mechanical valve is moderate damage but nothing to worry about they said Melody valve is ripping torn there's more regurgitating than last time Monday August 30th I am going into surgery do they want to open me up and cut out as much of the melody valve / stent as much as possible to relieve the pressure on my RV pretty terrified now that I'm older and making these decisions on my own done a lot of research about almost everything I'm nervous because I don't know if I'm part of a program and maybe they just want to retrieve mechanical valve the other option was put another stent in place they said that really would not help me because my spent that's their the melody valve is only eight millimeter opening and it would just make a small opening which would put more pressure and stress on my heart they said if they cannot cut it out that they had other valves and they could they got plenty donor valves they said they can replace the valve the valve is already a donor valve
Des,the bovine leaflets will fail after so many years they have found out. Mine have failed after six years and i am now going to find out if they can put another valve in it place. i had double coronary bipass in 2005 and tavr for aortic valve in 2016.

Can you suggest a brilliant heart valve repair surgeon in the U.K.? My consultant talks a lot about the risks as I am 77, but I’d love to know a second opinion.
Hi Jennifer, Great idea getting a second opinion. Where do you live in the UK? Once we know where you live, we are hopeful that we might be able to help you find another surgeon to consult with.
Professor Victor Tsang is amazing he did my aortic valve replacement surgery and saved my life four years on no complications. He works at Great Ormond Street, UCLH and St Barts.

My mom had mitral and tricuspid valve replaced by biological valve , she is in her 50s . At that time we didnt know a 2nd surgery will be needed in future but she came to know abt it after checkup . She have anxiety to surgeries and so she is in a emotional teardown . I wish she had undergone mech valves 😞. Is it really safe for 2nd surgery ?
Yes, second surgeries are more common these days as we are living longer lives. Please go to an experienced, reoperative cardiac center that specializes in valve therapy for your mom's next procedure.

Hi, I recommend Dr Bejal Pandaya at St Bartholomew’s hospital in london she’s amazing and has helped many women with mechanical valves to give birth naturally. They have specialist clinics for pregnant women with heart disease all over the country.
I am scheduled for mitral valve and tricuspid valve repair, the surgeon wants to perform a sternotomy as the TEE procedure done 3 months ago indicated the mitral valve needs to be repaired and the tricuspid valve has a minor issue. I called my cardiologist and asked him to review my latest echo done 6 months ago, his response was there is nothing that requires surgery on the tricuspid, and a rib cage operation would be more appropriate...quicker healing, less chance of infection etc. Any suggestions
how do you convince the surgeon to go with a tissue valve? I can not use aspirin and I have issues with bleeding on beta blockers so I thing blood thinners will not be good for me.
Great question. Have a good, honest discussion with the surgeon. If you don't like the response, we would encourage you to seek a second opinion. Don't be afraid to advocate for your health!
Is it common for someone to have 3 mitral valve surgery of a leaking mitral valve within a year? All three was replaced with mechanic. What can be the cause?

I have just been told I have two heart valves which are slightly leaky after an echocardiogram. Nothing more has been said. Is it normal or common to have this.
Hi Mitzi, Great question. It is not uncommon for patients to have slightly leaking valves. That said, it is important that you get regular check-ups to ensure that the valve disease does not worsen. The good news is that you are aware of this now. Many times patients are not diagnosed with lightly leaking valves which can lead to problems in the future. Hope this helps!!
I’m 64 and had my aortic valve and part of my aorta replaced April 10th @ Mayo Clinic Rochester MN. (congenital bicuspid, stenosis) I told them that I intend to follow in my father’s footsteps and live to be a hundred. They said that a mechanical valve would be my best choice as they last the longest. Feel great, looking 👀 forward to returning to work July 8th. No rhythm issues. Valve is loud though. My wife has nicknamed me “Thumper”. Dr Malaki L. Shrestha, M.B.B.S.
I was discovered a bicuspid aortic valve with regurgitation and palpitations 7 years ago. Im 32 now and all my cardiologist is saying is we only need yearly checkup for ultrasound. But im having more than 10 heart stutters and miss heartbeats that its driving me crazy and despite keep telling this to cardiologist nothing changes and i dont know what else to do. Living in fear day after day
Go on the web and do some deep research on cardiologists in your area. Get a 2nd opinion. Your doctor sounds like a dozer! No one should have to live in fear everyday. Ask God for guidance and get that second opinion from a good doctor. The problem is these days, it’s limited as to what we can search on the web…but I have a good feeling you will persevere and find one!
Fear not GOD is with you. If the doctor doesn’t feel alarm just trust. If you still feeling anxious about get another opinion. Just relax GOD has everything under HIS control.
We're not aware of sudden death risks associated with heart valve surgery. In fact, these procedures may actually prevent sudden death from happening due to heart valve disease.

I know you were referring to the OP, but seeing my old post has me wanting to update.
Great to hear Ronald! Congrats!
😅 12:05 😅 😊

Dr. Chikwe performed my quadruple bypass in November of 2018. She was head of cardiology at Stony Brook Hospital on Long Island NY. She was caring and professional. My recovery was fast with no complications.

If I got TAVR now it could last 7 years, but I would be at same cross roads. Love to hear from someone in same boat on how they decided. Also interested if anyone has seen this addressed in any videos or panel discussions. Thanks

I had double valves replacements
HI, How are you feeling after your double heart valve replacement surgery?
I'm sooo scared of doing it.... I never tot at 25 I would have to do it.

How did your surgery and recovery go? I'm facing the exact same thing in about 6 weeks.

Great to hear you are continuing to actively monitor the progression of your moderate-to-severe tricuspid regurgitation. I had my Aortic valve replacement in 1981and for the past year it was missing beats, not regular as it was all the years. I take TENORMIN and once had Generic Tenormin with in 48 hours I had heart failure and landed 10 days in the hospital. I had aortic valve replaced 11 years ago and I had indeed atrial fibrillation after the surgery. But they treated me and after a few days it was normalised. And I choose a tissue valve due to the sound it makes. So will need a new one on short term.

Now I am 23 years old,,,
Great question. Here's a video you may want to check-out ua-cam.com/video/OnAsVyVsjvs/v-deo.html.
Mom passed @40 yrs, Brother.passed young, Brother now is now in hospital w1 artery. Sister has stents.
I’m Out of Breath when I cross the room. Use a wheelchair now. Or a scooter.
How did it become calcified?

Hey ayushi is your mother doing fine now?
Does mild to moderate require surgery?
@@dghfarm1974Thanks for the comments can you tell me at what age your husband had this tissue valve and which company valve exactly as it lasted 12 years I am also searching for similar valve for myself I am 35

Typically mild valve disease does not require heart surgery. We encourage you to discuss this with your doctor. We are aware that there are now clinical trials happening for moderate aortic stenosis.
My sister is 23yrs old doctor advised to arotic valve replacement surgery,, so mechanical or tissue type which one is better??
Great and personal question. This is a decision that should be discussed at length with your sister and her medical team given her age, lifestyle, etc.

How did your surgery go?
Was it severe regurgitation ?
Sorry for the delay in responding. We're just seeing this. What valve type did you end up choosing and why?
