I adore this band im i adore your listen/watch. I super appreciate the camera angle. Something different than dead pan staring at the screen/audience. A kid may find that insteresting but I'm 32 and idk why, but i find your style refreshing. Wonderful react. Like n sub instantly. Off to check out your other stuff.
Really happy to see someone out side of Japan talk about this band if my memory is right they sold out the 55000 seat toyko dome 18 times this band should be in the rock n roll hall of Fame.
you absolutely have got to watch ''kurenai'' from the last live, it's one of their oldest songs and they play it at almost every show, definitely a classic. Yoshiki, the drummer (also the pianist) has a neck brace because he had multiple neck injuries from playing the drums too hard. Hide, the guitarist in red with the pink hair, sadly passed away just 5 months after this concert. You should definitely check out also ''rose of pain'' live from 1991 with the orchestra
Hide (pronounced hid-eh or hid-ay), the pink haired guitarist was a cult figure within the band. He wrote other music whilst still a member in X-Japan and performed it in his band called Spread Beaver (Yes Rollen I know). He had a massive following because of his X-Japan roots. He also had the other guitarist, Pata, from X-Japan in his band. He has been likened to the Japan version of Kurt Cobain or Jimi Hendrix. Unfortunately he passed away in 1998. There are a number of videos on UA-cam about him and most are pretty poor picture quality, but all are very interesting. He really was an iconic character and a massive loss to the world of music. My favorite song of his is called "Misery". It was written for one of his fans called Mayuko. She was only young and had a debilitating life-threatening disease that required operations. Mayuko was one of the first recipients of a Make a Wish foundation award in Japan and instead of doing the trip to Disneyland like most kids would request all she asked for was to meet her idol. Hide spent many hours with her and would often get Mayuko the best seats at his concerts. He even stayed in hospital with her when she had a big operation that unfortunately didnt work out. The irony though is she out lived her idol. Mayuko sadly passed away 10 years after Hide's death. The song Misery always reminds me of that little souls battle with her health and the love that Hide provided to somehow make a difference in her life. Here is a nice tribute video of Misery if you'd like to check it out. Rest in peace Hide and Mayuko. ua-cam.com/video/jUmlFtZrcCA/v-deo.html
By the time of this concert the lead singer, Toshi had been drawn into a cult called Home of Heart (by his then wife) and 'brainwashed', they were already physically abusing him and had convinced him to quit the group due to the music & lifestyle being 'evil'. They then controlled him & his music for the next 12 years, gradually bankrupting his fortune in the process until he eventually escaped in '09 a couple of years after rejoining X-Japan partially on the cult's initiative (as the money was running out). His book about those experiences (Brainwash - "Comeback from 12 Years of Hell" published in '14) is kinda horrific. Hide the pink haired lead guitarist felt somewhat betrayed by Toshi quitting the group, so was pretty standoff-ish with Toshi for portions of the gig. Unfortunately although he had a promising solo career he was dead less than six months later, it what is generally agreed to be an accident by drunken misadventure. You were close to spot on in that the producer of Baby Metal, Koba-metal is an enormous X-Japan fan. So Su's 'sacred neckbrace' in Headbanger is a tribute/homage, same as the 'We Are' crowd chant (copying 'We Are X') and several musical & stageshow references in their catalogue. Yoshiki the drummer/pianist/main composer, has ended up wearing a neckbrace when drumming since the mid 90s, as he used to headbang violently enough with very big hair that he herniated & damaged several vertebrae in his neck. He's also very dramatic, collapsing on stage & the like, so there's debate over how much he sometimes actually needs it and how much has become an affectation, kinda like James Brown with the cape. This was the final gig of this lineup that took place on 31 Dec '97, the 5th consecutive New Years Eve sold-out show of theirs at the Tokyo Dome.
This was at the Tokyo Dome, I believe... I forget how many people it holds, but while this was a momentous show, they had sold out this arena multiple times before this... In Japan, and some other parts of Asia, they are crazy big... Although they are somewhat known around the world, just not as much... I think they might have sold out Madison Square Garden after the group reformed... They've performed at coachella after reforming too (although sadly the lead guitarist passed away a year or two after this concert)... Yoshiki, the Drummer, once composed a theme for the Golden Globes... One time I think he really wanted to use a studio that Metallica were using to record The Black Album, but they had fully booked it for ages, so he bought the whole studio so he could use it lol. But yeah, he does a bunch of classical composing and such... But he also wrecked his neck by headbanging too hard lol. If you check out some of their earlier stuff, like maybe 1990, you might see some of that... If you think he seems crazy here, you should see him when he was even more like Animal from the Muppets ^_^;;... But on crack or speed or something....
WE ARE X ! 🤘 R.I.P. Hide 🎸

Yoshiki wears a neckbrace becuase he injured himself while headbanging, he collapsed on stage!
