They are Japan's greatest metal band. They still play every now and then. Yoshiki, the drummer and pianist just did a tour in the US as a pianist and gets massive crowds to attend his performances. They hold the record for how many times they have sold out Tokyo Dome and are a major influence along with the female legends SHOW YA on Japanese metal bands. They lost their bass player to cancer 4 months ago. RIP Heath. Their original bass player Taiji who had left the band also passed away in 2011. RIP Taiji. The guitarist in red on the big screen named "hide" (hidaay) was also one of the main members of X-Japan who passed away in 1998. 65,000 people turned up to his funeral. Even 20 years later 35,000 people turned up to a memorial concert for hide. He was a sort of David Bowie type who created fashion and music for the band and in his own band Spread Beaver. RIP hide. ❤💛❤💛🤘🎸
Yoshiki (drummer/piano) ToshI (singer) have been friends since grade school. Started a band very young and have paved the way for most Japanese rock and metal bands today. They are legends and rock royalty. 🙅🏻♀️
Nice one. X Japan were founded in the 80s, the founders of Visual Kei (a sort of Japanese version of hair metal ... not the same thing, they put their own Japanese twist on it) and are probably the most important Japanese metal band - I think virtually every Japanese metal band would name them as a major influence. They played the Tokyo Dome (55,000 people) 18 times I think. I don't know of any other Japanese metal band who could sell out the Tokyo Dome until BABYMETAL did it 2 nights running in 2016. They initially broke up at the end of December 1997 - the 'Last Live' concert is one to find - it was the last concert they were ever going to play when the singer left after being persuaded to join a cult by his wife. Eventually he got out of the cult after several years and X Japan reunited, but sadly their lead guitarist Hide (they showed him on the big screen - the guy with pink hair) had died very soon after they had originally split up. Nemophila did a good cover of 'Kurenai', worth finding for another reaction. BABYMETAL pay homage to X Japan in so many ways. The neck brace they introduced in the official 'Headbanger' video and which they have used in many live performances (even having the whole audience wearing them in some shows - not least when they also played the Tokyo Dome in 2016 and they handed out 110,000 neck braces with remote controlled LED bulbs in over the course of the two nights they played there) is an homage to Yoshiki, the founder, drummer, pianist and main composer for X Japan. He damaged his neck headbanging and had to have surgery and to wear a neck brace most of the time (especially when performing) for a long time after. If you ever see Su-metal banging a gong - that is another homage to Yoshiki - and in one performance BABYMETAL even had a crystal piano like his. When BABYMETAL shout "We are .... BABYMETAL" at the end of their concerts - again inspired by the "We are ... X" that X Japan would end their concerts with. BABYMETAL's song 'Akatsuki' is inspired by and pays homage to 'Kurenai', their song 'No Rain, No Rainbow' is inspired by and pays homage to X Japan's song 'Endless Rain'. Both those BABYMETAL songs are Su-metal solos, the other two girls would be getting a break while she performed them. Look at the lyrics again - I think both 'Kurenai' and 'Endless Rain' are about or reference Yoshiki's father's suicide when Yoshiki was still very young. It naturally had a very big effect on him and his songwriting. He is considered as a national treasure in Japan, he is a classically trained pianist and composer - he was even commissioned to compose an orchestral piece or a symphony perhaps (I'm not sure exactly what) for a special anniversary or event for the Emperor of Japan.
Damn those recurring goose bumps!!!! 🤣🔥🤘🏻 Well, after this one here there is actually a must-do program. 😎 1. Watch (and react to?) the 'Last Live' version of this song, and then 2. you should definitely react to the cover by 'Nemophila'❗ Interesting that you mentioned Babymetal. The neck brace, which is referenced again and again in their early days, has its origins right here. To be more precise, with drummer/pianist Yoshiki, who was forced to wear one at times due to his intense drumming style. In general, X Japan is one of the greatest role models for today's Japanese musicians, and without a doubt one of the greatest bands Japan's music history has to offer. WE ARE... X 🔥🤘🏻 _____________________ _"America invented rock. England improved it. You absolutely have to watch the performance of kurenai from 1997, from "the Last Live"- the last performance they ever did before disbanding, and the last one with the original guitarist Hide- the one they show on the screens with the pink hair. Its an experience. hide died a few months after their last show, in early 1998. here's the link! ua-cam.com/video/3jtXEpMiEPw/v-deo.html
