    Love D9P ideas, they are a great way to make a quick quilt. Just watch your shapes as at 31:35 you just can't help but read those shapes as a swastika...

    • @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
      @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise  5 місяців тому

      That's something I noticed with other layouts, too. After researching old quilt patterns I found that particular layout dates back way before it became associated with WWII. It's unfortunate when something intended to be beautiful is stolen and turned into an evil message. Though I totally agree with you, it's not an appropriate block to use. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate you following along! Happy Quilting,

      Yes, it’s a shame that we all see a swastika first, but that may be due to the current political environment!!! I’m choosing to just see it as another quilt design

    I find that if i use a grooved out pressure foot and move my needle over to have a quarter inch seam , it makes a huge difference. I see you are using a viking so use the B pressure foot. You will be amazed how well that works.

    I wonder if it works with a 4 patch I have lots of them

    • @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
      @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise  7 місяців тому +3

      Absolutely, Christine! Two ways I can think of off the top of my head. The easiest: Cut a background fabric square the size of your 4-patch. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner and place on your 4-patch. Then sew a 1/4-inch seam along each side. Cut along the line and you now have 2 HSTs. Mix them up and join them together for a Flying Geese block. #2 would be for a larger size 4-patch. Follow the same steps except you'll draw two diagonal lines in both directions. Then sew and cut as above, making two cuts for this block. You'll finish with four HSTs that you can join together. It'd sure be fun to try! Thanks for watching. Happy Quilting,
      Lea Louise

    • @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
      @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise  7 місяців тому

      Sometimes I need to do that, too, Anita! Pairing up these FG first helps get a handle on placement. I'll probably assemble multiple 4-patches then put the quilt together. It's certainly a brain teaser! Thanks for following along! Happy Quilting,
      Lea Louise

    This is a very interesting assembly of pieces. My apologies for the criticism. You are allowing MANY bias edges. When sewing or ironing, you MUST be careful not to STRETCH your edges!! When I work with biased edges, I STARCH the devil out of it to offer some stiffness to prevent wobbling or bubbling edges. If not, you can get wonky shapes to your quilt. Happy Sewing!! 🍀 Thank you for sharing this interesting pattern. 😊

    Interesting video. Please don't put the fingers of your left hand on either side of your cut line. If your rotary cutter slipped, you could cut into your hand between the fingers which ir very dangerous. Safety First.!!!

    Your blocks turned out beautiful. To me, that looks very hard to do. I have never made a Disappearing Nine-Patch Block. However, I have watched several videos where other people did make them. Your way looks like it will be the hardest. You made me dizzy several times during this video. So I stopped the video, waited a while, then went back to watching. I do have a lot of issues with my eyes.

    At 31:43 all I see is an unfortunate swastika shape. My husband pointed one of those out to me in a previous project so I decided to change it. All the other many options work well enough. ❤

      Good point, Karen. This design is actually a very old, traditional block used long before WWII. I realized it in another quilt I made and did some research. I'll stick with the traditional quilters interpretations and stay away from the politics. Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting,

    Please be careful with your cutting! I cringed when you’re cutting an area that was missed and you were holding the fabric and almost cutting it between your fingers ❤. Otherwise, what a great way to cut the nine patch. So different than the vertical/horizontal lines.

      @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise  6 місяців тому

      Yes, you do, Susie. Here's my thought on that. The swastika was a quilt pattern long before it was a sign of hatred. Perhaps we can now use it as it was originally intended. Thanks for your comment. Appreciate you watching! Happy Quilting,

      @@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise I still think you should be respectful as Jews are being persecuted all over the world today with swastikas being painted all over monuments, and Jewish homes etc.... There are pleanty of other designs as you said to make with those other configurations and not perpetuate the bad feelings that others may feel seeing this. Steven West did just that on a huge Knit along with a mystery shawl just last year. He had every one rework the beginning of a shawl after they noticed this in his MKAL.
