  • Weber SmokeFire Pellet Grill pulled pork over night cook. This is a long video where we experience and evaluate the cooker together. Everything actually worked really well until it didn't. The Weber pellet grill had a grease fire at the end. I managed to save the pork butts.

It appears from the picture that the flavorizer bar is missing over the fire. On all of their grills, they prevent a grease fire?

Their product quality has gone to shit in the last few years. Top of the line Weber Summit grills rusting to nothing in a couple years, because they use cheap ass painted steel side panels on a $3,000 grill (not even galvanized). Would it have killed you to step up and use stainless, or at least galvanized steel? For this pellet grill, they tried re-using the flavorizer bars, rather than do like every other tried and proven pellet grills that cover the entire cooking surface with a flame guard / heat diffuser. No self-respecting dealer will recommend them over a Traeger, Rec Tec, or other quality pellet grill. I wish I would have kept all my old Weber products when I moved, including a Genesis C Gold grill, WSM smoker, and old school 22" kettle grill. At least I still have my 15 year old Baby Q that works like the day it was made.

Huge respect to you Justin for literally confirming everything that I've seen over the last 72hrs, from people who bought this pellet grill.
I almost bought the grill after what I saw with you and Harry Soo in Chicago, but the price in Canada is $2000 can dollars and that stopped me, otherwise I would have the smokefire in my possession now.
After your confirmation and others, I'm out from buying this grill.

Hey Justin, You saved me a ton trouble. My EX6 has been sitting in my garage unopened for a couple of weeks due to weather and illness. I was going to pull it out in the morning and give it the inaugural go. Luckily, I saw your video first. Grease fire! Geez. Weber offered no apologies when I called. No inquiries about further details, only verified the information, refunded my money, said the shipping company would be in contact for the pickup, thanks and goodbye. Don't sweat getting caught up in the hype. I'm a Weber diehard and can't believe it myself. Sure I expected some glitches. But nothing like this from Weber. Thanks again for saving me the trouble!

Most of us get excited about a new piece of kit. We hope for improvement and success of products that we love to use so I wouldn't be too hard on yourself for willing this smoker to be a winner. As a successful UA-cam creator, you have put yourself in a position where you get invited to "influencer" events for big brands and it can be a balancing act to be respectful to the brand and also genuine to your supporters - I personally think you have done that well. I agree with your wife and reckon you should use this opportunity to not just "alert" others about buying this product but also help to improve it (if Weber is kind and smart enough to listen) rather than return it directly. All the best 👍

For some reason I never saw this comment. I appreciate you taking the time to leave it. Yeah, I didn't talk about it in videos but I bent over backwards trying to help Weber. Behind the scenes I was sending pictures and videos and basically begging them to show me if I had done anything wrong.
They offered to send an engineer to my house to fix my grill. I told them that would be fine as long as there were solutions for my viewers via customer service if they had the same issues. (The last thing I wanted was to have the only grill in the country that was working because I hand an engineer come over). They didn't talk to me after that.
I took a lot of crap over this grill...from people who don't realize I was looking out for them. I probably should have talked about it more.

Good choice. I didn’t go through with my Smokefire preorder and I am now seriously considering a rec tec. For the same price point the build quality and fit and finish are way better and they just seem to work with no problems. I haven’t really seen any complaints. Exactly.
And after seeing multiple videos on the Webber, it’s obvious that the people have these problems because they’re not cleaning it. They’re letting the ash build up which creates a little greaseballs that catch on fire.
It’s like people expect these things to work and work and work and never clean them. I think lazy people buy the pellet grills because they don’t wanna have to do the things you do with a charcoal grill or even a gas grill. They need maintenance and cleaning. Just like any other grill. It’s ridiculous!
I see people complaining about the power mode, the shutdown mode and resetting, etc. People saying I’d never buy one because of that. Simple fix. Go to Office Depot and but a UPC. Everyone should have these for their flatscreen TV and stereo and you can use one for the grill. Power goes out no problem.
These things cook better because Weber did Good something very different but it’s still uses pellets. Comparing it to other pellet grills is ridiculous because it’s not like other pellet grills.
I always have to remind myself. That common sense isn’t common and average intelligence isn’t actually very intelligent.
People want to work like other pellet grills and have the simplicity of other pellet grills, but don’t understand this is not that that’s why you get far better flavor on this which is much closer to a traditional grill or an offset grill. If flavor is important to you. This is the grill to get but understand it’s gonna take a little bit more cleaning. I literally shake my head, reading all the comments on these Weber reviews and the whining and the complaining.

No, they recommend a water pan (not a drip pan) in the cook chamber (not specifically under your food). This is a common recommendation to keep humidity high, there's no indication Weber intended that line in the manual as a mandatory step to prevent grease fires.

Videos like this help the next guy that is doing research on his next pellet grill purchase. I was VERY skeptical when I saw the initial videos of this grill/smoker, on the quality and performance. 2 things I knew right away without even seeing one in person was the lack of drip shield and horrible pellet hopper design. I LITERALLY did a years worth of research and reading reviews before I purchased the REC TEC RT-700. I have not had ONE issue with this grill (over 100 cooks) and the quality and craftsmanship is undeniably the best I saw!!! I recommend the REC TEC to anyone looking to purchase a pellet grill, but I also tell people, do your own research. Compare build quality, functions, customer satisfaction, read reviews. I know i'm glad I did.

Just like you, I am a HUGE Weber fan...rocking Weber (kettles and gas grills) that are older than me with ZERO issues. I had pre-ordered the SmokeFire as soon as I could, but after thinking about it, I turned it down. This is version 1, and while I would trust Weber to do a ton of R+D, it's going to have issues to work on for version 2...3...ect...So I don't mind throwing down $1,200 on a smoker / grill. But will do so after a few versions and improvements made. Thank you for your honesty and transparency in this video. Cheers Justin!

Truly appreciate the review. I really thought personally that those flavorizer bars spacing would eventually lead to grease fires on the them and the bottom of grill. So sorry to see this happen on an early cook, but to be fair two pork butts render a lot of fat. So for me, the appeal of pellet cooker is the ability to set it, and walk away and even go to bed while it cooked through the night. But there's no way I'd feel comfortable doing that after what you dealt with. That pellet cooker probably does a better a job with grilling than most of the other do based on design. But your integrity in sharing this video can't be overstated. Thank you.

    • @ericcioffi7309

@@ericcioffi7309 I hear you 100% and completely concur. It usually takes some neglected build-up of grease to get a grease fire rolling. Nice review buddy, might I suggest two possible solutions:
    1. Shim the left side of the cooker up about .25" inch or so and maybe that would allow a cleaner pellet feed?
