    ATTENTION PLEASE READ THIS PINNED COMMENT!!!!!!!
    I really appreciate everybody watching as well as leaving thoughts and comments. I work full time and it’s very difficult to keep up with all the comments on this video. I would like to make it clear that this is NOT a Weber bashing video. I do not condone any harsh comments directed at them beyond asking them to pay attention to the issues and accept responsibility for some of the short comings. I really didn’t want to put this video out in some ways (I like to stay away from negativity whenever possible) but because of the serious nature of the grease fire potential, I felt that took top priority. Once again, thank you all very much for your support and constructive feedback. I hope you’ll subscribe and join my continued journey here on UA-cam. Cheers!

      I'm not sure how anyone could think this was about bashing Weber. It seemed clear to me that you really wanted to enjoy the product and felt bad having to say anything negative. But this does show a really dangerous problem that could cause injuries or damage to customers. I think you did what you had to do in the most honest and calm way possible. Stopping the video and then recording the next day was probably the smartest move - I'm not sure I could have controlled myself enough to do that.

      Thank you very much for watching and for the kind words, Colin. I’m mostly a cooking channel but recently I’ve gotten into reviews and they have generated a lot of interest so I’m getting more into them as I go. Once I realized where this video was going, I left out any thoughts of additional editing such as music, lighting etc. it was really an emotional roller coaster of disappointment for me. I really hope the video helps people and most importantly keeps them aware and SAFE. That was my primary concern. Thank you again for watching, my friend.

    Great review, I'm so glad you did it and I saw it before buying one of these myself! I am a long time Weber fan and was really excited when I heard about them finally coming out with a pellet grill. I was going to sell my current pellet grill to get the Weber one, well now I'm not. I hope Weber has viewed this, and even reached out to you to get more information in order to address the issues you pointed out. Great job again and thanks!

      Thank you very much for watching and commenting, Michael 🙏. Unfortunately, it’s been much the opposite. Instead, they’ve decided that discrediting negative reviews and pretending there are no problems is the best route for them to continue to sell these things lol. Their problem, not mine. My cooker is back at Lowe’s and my money is back in my bank account.

I just pulled the trigger yesterday on the camp chef Wood went to 24 can’t wait to use it. Thanks for the information I’m sure Weber will rectify this future but I won’t be in my backyard.

      I was looking forward to getting this grill but the price held me back! The grease fire Baby back Maniac had still has me thinking.. I saw the reveal of this pit at the Webber facility.. was stoked for it.. but now that it’s out for purchase, seems to have many issues!! It’s sad to know that they researched and said that they took every issue from all other pellet grills and came up with this game changer.. I skipped this purchase and went with the Masterbuilt Gravity series 560.. love the digital concept of it while keeping charcoal & wood smoking... I would love to see a professional review from bbq pros! Just a suggestion!

    I've had mine (granted - it's the EX4 model) since early summertime - so enough to have used it 30+ times at this point.... I have to say that I absolutely love this thing compared to the 'other' big-name pellet grill - I also have a big-joe Kamado Joe grill (2nd one of those)... anyway - this thing rocks. Yes - I've watched all the videos - including your entire video. The short version response from me is this: 1) install all of the upgrades/replacements - this means the hopper fix, the screw, the updated software/firmware, and the new chamber. and 2) if you're grilling something fatty - or even just grilling skin-on chicken at 500 degrees - you gotta use a foil cookie sheet or regular cookie sheet or there will be flareups.... This is pretty much the same issue if you were directly cooking something fatty over charcoal or any gas grill (over high heat)... Now - your comments were mostly about the long-smoke issues - and it's basically the same rule there as well - pork-butt/brisket with a big layer of fat? ya need to manage the drippings. As for the 'ash blowing everywhere' comments - not so much by you but by the others... that's just not the case for me. My cleanings so far have been quick/simple and there just isn't a lot of ash left over so I have no idea what those comments are all about. So - as I mentioned - I love this thing. I can grill anything in 10 minutes and the taste is phenomenal - I've cooked some of the best ribs I've ever smoked on this thing - same with a few briskets this summer... I read the directions - used a pan when necessary (which isn't every time) - and mine has been a true joy. thanks for your efforts and I"m sorry you were so frustrated by your experience - can't speak for weber - I'm not an internet guy and I'm damn sure not on anyones payroll or freebie list, I paid full price - but because I'm the kind of guy who does a ton of research before buying something like this - I watched hours of video and talked to a few folks at my local grill store (KC area - smoke-n-fire) about this grill... and I went for it and I'm so glad I did - thanks again for what you do.

    Really appreciate your integrity and detailed review. Having had a bad grease fire that burned part of my roof's underside before I caught it, I'm very sensitive to grease fires. When I saw the initial pre-production videos on this cooker, I thought channeling the grease TOWARD the fire under it was a major red flag and the spacing between the flavorizer bars would also lead to grease fires. It feels like Weber didn't fully test this or being completely honest about how much this cooker engineering borrowing design cues from their gas grills with the flavorizer bars design. But burners on their gas grills sit much higher from the floor of the grill and directly underneath each bar, making for a safer design even though over time grease fires can become an issue. I feel your pain and frustration, though big sigh of relief when you said Lowe's was picking it and you were getting a refund. Again, thank you for sharing this video. You're helping A LOT of people and there were/are likely a lot of folks that would buy this unit just because it's a "Weber". Grease fires are no joke. Thanks again!

    I just watched Justin's review on this and I'm sure you have too by now. Both of you had grease fires on the first cook!!! Thank you so much for the heads up Mike! Not for me, but for anyone thinking about buying this. Maybe Weber needs to stick to what made them what they are, or at least know beyond a doubt that this was ready and safe for launch. I can hear your disappointment in this video and sorry for the experience you had with it, but I deeply appreciate you taking the time to warn everyone about the pitfalls and danger of this pellet grill. I know you also own last years CC Woodwind and so do I. I've had no problems whatsoever with it and was offered the new WIFI model recently, but I'm holding out for the new LSG pellet smoker that's coming this spring. They have been working on this for over two years now, so I'm really anxious to see it and hopefully cook on it. Take care brother and thank you!

  • @Sevenfeet0
    @Sevenfeet0 4 роки тому +3

    From all of the reviews I've seen, it boils down to four problems at launch:
    1. Firmware updates. Annoying but certainly fixable.
    2. Hopper design. The chute tends to backup which means burner starvation or the user having to come out and check it every couple of hours, which is not why you buy a pellet grill in the first place. Some users have mitigated this by spraying the inside with food grade silicon, lowing the friction coefficient but this shouldn't be a problem in the first place.
    3. Pooling of grease near the firebox. The decision of having the grease pool to the same general location as the ash is a major problem since grease isn't like water and sometime can pool if the viscosity is high. And since oils/fats have a specific flashpoint & firepoint, having the exit next to the hot firebox is a recipe for grease fires.
    4. Inefficiency of the ash collection process. Ash still gets into the bottom of the cooker despite the design and since oil/fat is pooling near the firebox, this seems to be a primary ignition point for grease fires as the grease exceeds the flashpoint of fats like pork or poultry (low 300 degrees F).
    The cooker does seem to work well as a high temp griller (as long as you don't have accumulated grease from a previous cook to start a fire). And if you use a water tray under the meat, you probably mitigate grease fires (the manual mentions doing this but not saying why). But I think this product is going to have to be rethought, which is a shame. It was high on my list as a pellet grill....now I think I'm going to have to look at something else.
