    When the pilot is as good and professional like you ,there is no need of obstacle avoided sensors.nice and clean job ,the ANAFI in my opinion is the best drone and a real competitive with others dji drones for half price.thanks Michel

      Hi 7el 3inik! Thanks a lot!! LOL you know I almost never use OA on my DJI drones. Maybe in a pinch if I’m in a sketchy spot and I can’t see I will flip it on but it’s almost always off. And for that matter whenever I have crashed it was on!! Lol don’t get me wrong I think it’s a great feature to have but it’s not a must have for me! I would much rather keep my eyes on the drone. I can fly much better that way.

    Great video Ethan! You can also use Flight Plan to do some of these effects. Flight Plan is the best!! I lay in bed at night with my iPhone and plan out my next day's aerial videos. While flying the Flight Plan, you can adjust the gimbal angle manually as long as you don't have an established POI and waypoints attached to the POI. It also makes you aware of the time of the Flight Plan so you can assure you safely return with adequate battery power. Flight Plan is a little nerve racking if you lose your video feed!! But it always comes back!!

    Wow, Ethan. You really have the Anafi down pat! This was some great info that I will put into use on my next flight. Good info for the Anafi can be a bit hard to find so you are really doing the community for this drone a great service! Thanks again!

      Thank you very much!!! I wish more people would give his drone a shot. I prefer the Anafi 100 times over the Mavic Air, and don’t get me wrong, I love my DJI drones but in this price range, the Anafi smokes the Mavic Air in the areas that are important to me!! Lol I personally feel the Anafi has the best camera features that are useful. I’m not into panos or the smart dronies but the cameraman, follow me, touch fly, and flight plan are the best features on the market. The only other drone that comes close to doing what this drone can do (camera feature wise) is the Mavic 2 and I still think the Anafi does most of those features better.

      @@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Preach!! I encounter so many people that are DJI loyalists to the point of bashing any other drone. That just confuses me. I mean isn't more competition a good thing, competition breeds innovation? I guess it's just like cameras. Someone who just spent that kind of money doesn't want to think they could have bought something better or at least as good for less money.
      I have compared footage side by side with the Mavi Air and the Anafi just wins hands down. Maybe skip the whole HDR thing which I think is more marketing hype than a truly useful feature in the Anafi.

    • @EthanMitchell_YouTube
      @EthanMitchell_YouTube  5 років тому

      Yes I agree, im not one for the gimmicky stuff, HDR, LossLess Zoom , pano, smart dronies but all the DJI drones have alot of that stuff too. What I need is camera features and tools that help get amazing footage. Some people are always going to be bias no matter what. I know people are going to say the Mavic Air has OA and APAS which are both great tech.....and both I never use!! LOL . The noise, flight time, and camera features on the Anafi just win me over by a land slide compared to the Air. I also prefer the app layout in free flight 6 but it is nice that DJI keeps the same layout across the board.

    I was a fan of touch fly POI from day one ... it's a perfect tool for (assisted) manual and creative flying vs. autoshots (dronies). The latter are great too, but get boring soon, for they are too perfectly doing the same all over again.
    Anafi may not be as good a drone flyer (range, speed, sensors), but it is the perfect flying camera, which I am interested in a drone, therefore my drone of choice.

    Ethan, I've been practicing using the POI technique you described in your video with the water tower example (via POI mode). I've encountered two issues:
    1) When I try to set the camera angle height using the camera gimbal paddle there is a huge amount of persistent latency (1-2 seconds) any time when I try and change the camera angle (note: this latency doesn't exist when not in POI mode) thus making it VERY difficult to set the camera angle properly. And similarly using the slider there is a long latency delay plus an overall lack of granularity when I try and set the camera height with the slider (i.e., if I move the slider a tiny tiny tiny bit the camera will end up facing either nearly 90 degrees upward or 90 degrees downward). My hands are very steady so I don't think that's the problem.
    Have you experienced this latency and/or lack of granularity using the app camera slider?
    2) Also when I fly over the POI with camera facing downward and tap the map to mark the POI the drone will immediately yaw around and face in a different direction then it was prior to me marking the POI on the map. And it seems that at that point I no longer have control of the yaw via the RC sticks. Thus making it more difficult to "back up" from the POI and set the camera height appropriately. This problem has occurred each time I've tried to set the POI with this technique.
    Have you experienced anything like this. Maybe once I've flown over the POI I should reset the camera angle (using the reset button) to point to the horizon first before I actually tap on the map to mark the POI?
    Any thoughts/suggestions?
    BTW I use Android v 7.1.1 and I have a pretty powerful phone....not some low end budget phone....so I don't think that's the problem.
    Cheers

    • @EthanMitchell_YouTube
      @EthanMitchell_YouTube  5 років тому +1

      HI Jet! Yes I have experienced both of what you are describing and they are inherent to this flight mode. Heres how to work with this. The gimbal seems to move in 6-9 ft increments when using this feature. Thats why the gimbal seems to jump or have a delay when setting it. I think the software is recalculating the trigonometry that is needed for accurate gimbal moves. When you are directly over an object and set that as the point, if you are off by even a few inches from where the drone is, its going to rotate to face that direction. When it does this, simply pull back a few feet, it does not matter what direction it's facing. Once you have created some distance between the drone and the center point, push the right stick left, or right to rotate around to the spot you would like to use to set the gimbal height. Now you can use the paddle or slider to set the gimbal. It does take a little bit of time to set up but once it's locked in, you will have very smooth footage where the camera pitch and drone yaw are automatic. Let me know if this helps.

    • @jetmartin9501
      @jetmartin9501 5 років тому +1

      @@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Thanks for the quick response....Good to hear it wasn't just me and/or my drone. The remedy you described in setting POI and then backing up is more or less what I've been doing. So I think I'm on the right track with that one.
      WRT to the camera gimbal latency I suspect you are correct....I suspect there is some "gimbal lock" in calculation happening with each and every camera gimbal input and that probably is creating the latency. If that is indeed the cause then I would suggest that Parrot address this by adding some sort of on screen "gimbal lock" button that the user would only click AFTER they are satisfied with the camera alignment. This button click would trigger the calculation of the "lock-in" algorithm thus preventing the algorithm from running with EVERY gimbal input. I may contact Parrot support to see if have any explanation as to the cause of the latency. If I get any info I'll let you know.

    Great video! I love this drone and POI mode is the best. Taking this drone to Bali in 3 weeks but can't make a decision if I should buy an extra battery or not (100€ ouch). I have a 20k mAh powerbank, which can charge anafi 2 times (another big advantage of anafi), just it is a bit slow (takes 80 minutes to fully charge). On the other hand, 23 minutes of the actual flying time is more than enough to shoot at a single scene.

      HI Darius! thanks for stopping by!! Yes the Anafi is def one of my favorites!! I tell people all the time that the Anafi see more flight time than the Mavic 2 Pro, mainly due to the incognito factor! LOL I would recommend getting a second battery even though you will probably not need it if you plan accordingly, which it sounds like you are. I would say the second battery is more for a back up and for those moments where you need to get just one more shot! LOL I have three batteries and almost never need the 3rd. I will use two quite often for most of my stuff.

      HI South West Florida Aerial! Thanks for stopping by! I have been using a Iphone 8 plus and Galaxy S7. Since the last IOS update I have been having issues myself with video stream loss or the app will disconnect from the controller if I go to another app and then come back to free flight. I was on the phone with Parrot most of the morning trying to figure out what is going on. It was doing this on my Iphone 8 and the wife's Iphone7. The Galaxy s7 has no issue nor does a spare Iphone6. They said they are going to send it to the developers so hopefully we will see an update for the newer Iphones. Your issue sounds like it could be the USB cord,WiFi interference, or phone processor is getting over loaded if you have several app running or an older phone. Are you trying to screen record at the same time? I do notice on all devices the connection is better when you are in airplane mode and wifi and bluetooth are off. Hope this helps.

      Last summer I was using a Galaxy S7 with the Anafi and when I was using the Follow Me with screen recording, the video and tracking would lag really bad. Turns out it was the processor getting overloaded. I switched to apple and have not had a problem with lags. I have also used an Asus Zenpad 10 and never had an issue with that either but it does not have many apps on it. Im pretty sure the only reason I was having problem with the Galaxy S7 was because it had a lot of apps and who knows what was running in the back ground. Now I still use the Galaxy at times but it has been factory reset and the only apps on it are the drone apps and it seems to work fine now.

      Sure no problem. The only drones I have used where you can selectively focus are the Mavic pro, Mavic Platinum,Mavic 2’s and the phantoms. If your looking to get a more blurry background with a point of interest, you can lower your shutter speed below the 180 rule and that will increase the amount of motion blur in the background while leaving your slow moving subject pretty sharp. It will give that selective focus/ shallow depth of field effect, if that’s what your going for.

    Really loving your in depth reviews and showing with an example is brilliant! So there are 3 modes you could use to do POI type shots where you can manually control the flight path of the drone. Camera Man, Follow-me, Touch fly. Per your comments it seems like you preferred Touch Fly over the other two. To me it seems like there's a tad bit more setup required with the Touch fly (i.e., fly over subject and mark it, fly back, set the gimbal)...so given that I'm wondering why you'd prefer that mode (Touch fly) vs the other two modes (other than the dynamic subject issue you raised).
    And wrt to the dynamic subject just for clarity I presume you saying that it's difficult for the drone's camera to lock in on moving water or a flapping flag?
    Cheers

    • @EthanMitchell_YouTube
      @EthanMitchell_YouTube  5 років тому +2

      HI Jet, yes you are correct. Its harrd for the software to lock onto a moving target such as a flag or moving water. Thats where I would use the Touch and Fly POI mode. Yes it is a little bit more set up, and you dont have to fly the drone over the subject, I just prefer to do that for accuracy. Sometimes where your subject is on the map in relation to the actual GPS coordinates (where the Drone thinks its at) are a bit off. I prefer touch and fly POI over the other modes bc it will stay locked in to the POI. The other modes are using optical tracking and drift a bit in the frame bc the software is adjusting to the subject moving in the frame. With Touch and Fly the software is locked onto a GPS location and height, which makes the moves much more smooth and the framing will have a very locked in look.

      HI Dr. One! Here is what I use going down the list. Film 10/80/4/25/10, banked turns off, and for Sport is use 25/160/6/30/20 and banked turns on. I often switch between sport and film and sometimes change these settings depending on what I am doing. Hope this helps!

    Great info Ethan, thanks 😁👍 As an Anafi owner, I always look for more ways to achieve great results. Making notes now 😁 I usually forget about the dronies when flying over and around. Constantly looking back and forth from the drone to screen is harrowing at times. These ideas make it so much easier.

      HI Ricardo! Thanks for stopping by! If you are flying a mission and the remote gets disconnected, the Anafi will complete the mission,(battery depending) then do a RTH.

    I had a funny experience today with my parrot anafi. I was in my local park flying it for some panorama shots. The first time it came down to land I saw a bug shred on it’s blades in a millisecond but not sure what it was. A second time on it’s approach to the ground I saw it being followed down by a small swarm of about 8 bees, now realising that first bug was a bee that was shredded. The sound of the blades on it actually attracts bees! I don’t know if it’s funny or tragic. 🥴

    Just watched this video again to refresh my understanding of POI options before I go out and try it. The video is entitled "Part 1" is there a "Part 2" to this video.
    Also just curious..
    1) if Flight Mode = Touch & Fly and Type = POI and you Tap on the map screen to set your POI (versus flying to it and setting it) will the Anafi just start flying to the POI (at height set via slider) immediately without any confirmation or do you get a confirmation screen first?
    In the case of Flight Mode = Touch & Fly and Type = Waypoint, the manual says "Tap a point on the map to select a destination for Anafi: this point is marked as a white circle with an orange border. Anafi immediately starts flying toward the selected point"...which would seem to imply that you don't get any confirmation screen...it just starts flying (which is surprising). The manual is silent on POI.
    2) If at the time you select the POI on the map (as I noted above ) and your Anafi is hovering at 3 feet, will the Anafi immediately climb to the height you set for your POI (via the slider) or will it gradually reach that height as it moves towards the POI. I'm hoping that it is the former otherwise that could be "dangerous".
    I'll be testing these things out when I fly next time but I thought I see if you happened to know the answer off the top of your head.
    Cheers

      @EthanMitchell_YouTube  5 років тому +1

      Hey Jet!! The other parts in this series are for other drones. This was the only one on the Anafi. Sorry about that, it is kinda misleading title.
      1. NO- with the POI option there will not be a confirmation. With POI the Anafi does not fly to it, It just points at it so as soon as you tap on the map to drop a POI, the Anafi will immediately turn towards it. With Waypoint, you should get a confirmation pop up after you tap a location on the map so the Anafi will not immediately fly to that spot.
      2. No- with POI, you control the flight, the Anafi will not go anywhere without you fling it. All POI does is keep the camera pointed at that spot so flight control wise, the app is only controlling Pan and Gimbal tilt. You still have to fly it manually.
      You you want an automated POI where the drone flies itself you can set that up in Flight Plan or you can use the Smart Dronies.
      Great questions Jet!! Let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions! Sorry it took me a few days to get back to you, I was out of the country and did not have wifi access.

    Is there any advantage of using follow me "locked" over the camera man mode? Looks like both do the same (as you mentioned in the video) but why does it even exist!?

    • @EthanMitchell_YouTube
      @EthanMitchell_YouTube  5 років тому +2

      Great question! When using these features for POI, not much, but I think Follow Me Locked is a little smoother, it does not have as much gimbal wobble bc the drone is using its GPS as well as optical tracking. Plus if your subject moves it will stay with it. An advantage to Cameraman is that is does not use GPS so you can use this feature indoors if needed. I used it to film a chandelier at a wedding venue and it worked great. I know thats a rare situation but its handy to have. Cameraman is actually supposed to be used like Spotlight on the DJI drones. The drone is supposed to stay stationary and your subject moves around and the camera will track it. Thats mainly how it differs from follow me.

    • @TheNightstalker80
      @TheNightstalker80 5 років тому +1

      @@EthanMitchell_UA-cam hmm now I'm confused, you say it still follows you in locked mode? That doesn't seem to make sense but I think I'm missing something there. What does "locked mode" exactly lock? The movement, the camera, both or neither lol. I'm just curious now tbh. I want to get an Anafi soon and now try to figure out what it can do or not. It looks like the best drone for my needs but I want to make sure I dont miss anything.

    • @EthanMitchell_YouTube
      @EthanMitchell_YouTube  5 років тому +2

      @@TheNightstalker80 Sure no problem. Lock mode will lock the orientation of the drone to the subject you are tracking but you still can make manual adjustments changing the orientation. Its lengthy to explain and Im prob not doing a good job explaining it. Im a visual person so if you watch my video I put out on this a few months ago, here is the Link- ua-cam.com/video/N8Ya7C9C9x0/v-deo.html, that will prob help. Go to the 3:05 min mark, that is where I explain the differences between track, lock, and dynamic follow me modes. Also if you go to this video- ua-cam.com/video/fwz_t_FqEmI/v-deo.html - at the 1:05 mark you can see Follow Me Locked mode in action. I was using it to track my boat but I was controlling where the drone was flying. Hope this helps. I also have an Anafi Playlist on my channel if your interested.

      @MrApolloTom 5 років тому +2

      @@EthanMitchell_UA-camI'm still a bit confused by this idea. When you go into Follow Me it says to select yourself. The drone's behaviour when you select a different object doesn't seem to be officially defined anywhere - does it follow that object or the phone's GPS?

    • @EthanMitchell_YouTube
      @EthanMitchell_YouTube  5 років тому +1

      HI Tom. It will follow the object. I will look for some footage I have where I put the controller/phone down and walked away and the Anafi stayed right with me. If I can find it I will post it and send you the link.
