Hi Arkhor!! Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the Sub!! Your country makes a Great Drone!! Yes I am super impressed with the Anafi!! Parrot did a great job with this drone!
You made the best of it for our great pleasure. Hoping and looking forward new interesting features and firmwares :) Enjoy your Sunday with Anafi, weather and moods are cloudy in France...
HI Arkhor! I flew the Anafi yesterday and while I am very impressed with the histogram and zebras, there seems to be a small glitch. When switching between HDR and normal video, the video feed goes dark and the app has not crashed, as in I can still control the drone through the app. Sometimes the video feed came back and other times I had to restart the app. This happens three times while I was testing out the new features. I have sent them an email describing the issues as Im sure they will fix it. Tomorrow I will test out the new features and see if an Andriod device has an issues! Thank you for the support!! I need to make videos of the other drones I have but Ive been having a lot of fun with the Anafi!
Hi Ethan. Many users reported bugs since the update. Unfortunately i did also the updates. It seems Parrot developpers are better in implementing new features than preventing regression. Hope they focus on code review and send us a new version to fix these bugs.
Thank you Ethan. You go from good to better with every video tutorial you create. This one took the step up to excellent. A much needed gap in Anafi tutorials has now been plugged. I wonder what you wil cover next?
Thanks Douglas! I really appreciate it!! I need to edit a waterproofing video I filmed in September for the Yuneec Breeze but have not had the time to do it yet. I also have lots of tips for the Mavic 2 Pro but many other channels have already done this pretty well. I think maybe will keep the Anafi theme going and do a 5 tips video. Also I have heard Parrot is going to do another update soon so well see what they add.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam You are a busy man, Ethan. I am looking forward to your future tips. I had a very interesting (funny?, strange?) accident using the flight plan a while ago. I will be uploading a video covering the accident sometime soon.
@Ethan Mitchell Definitely gotta do these types of tutorials on the Evo. There isn't really no tutorials about it, they're all vague. Nothing in depth like this on the Evo.
Thanks again, Ethan, for another great, educational tutorial. There was a real need for this tutorial as the waypoint features of the Anafi app are very powerful but it can be confusing when someone first tries to use/program it. I love my Anafi!
Thanks John! And thank you for bringing the POI to my attention! This feature is awesome! I cant believe the Smoothness of some of the shots im getting! All drones these days for the gimmicky quick shots but this is the first drone i have seen that actually has useful features that help get the perfect shot. Camer man and flight plan are game changers! I also have the Mavic 2 Pro and it cant do what this drone can!
Top tutorial Ethan. This must be the 5th time I've visited, also begrudgingly bought the in store apps and will be certainly giving the flight plan a shot. Keep up the good work :^)
Yes its too bad that they charge for the apps but every drone company these days seems to have their issues. The follow me and flight plan both work extremely well and help getting awesome shots!
Hi Milton Smith! Thanks for stopping by! Thank you and yes I really love this flight plan. I have also been using litchi for my Mavic 2 and it is very similar but not as intuitive as the Anafi’s. though it does have more features, I’m not very fond of using a 3rd party app to control the Mavic. I’m currently working on a season time lapse, should be done in the early summer.
Thanks again for a well-made video about Parrot Anafi, Ethan. Unfortunately, I feel you have overlooked 2 not so lucky things in Parrot's FlightPlan. 1. Anafi slow its speed down whenever it goes through a waypoint. 2. When Anafi switches the height of the camera in a transition from a POI to the next POI, it happens in a jump and not as a slow transition (see your own video 8:13). Both errors do that FlightPlan is not suitable for serious film work. I would think it's something that Parrot should work hard to get over. Unfortunately, nothing has happened with FlightPlan in the new update (6.3.0) that arrived here in December. If you are in doubt about how a FlightPlan software should be made, try Litchi to DJI drones. The worst part of that is that I paid about the same amount for Parrot's FlightPlan as Litchi cost! ;-(((
Hi TheLandbo! Yes I agree, I did notice the two items you commented about. I have never tried Letchi for DJI drones. Do you think it’s better than Parrots Flight Plan? I was hoping DJI would come out with something for the Mavic 2, as they said they would.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Yes, Litchi is many times better. There you also get a hub where you can use a computer with a big screen to easily make your route. Additionally, the hub automatically sends your route's to all of your installed Litchi on both phones and tablets. Can mention you can make router where your heights automatically follow the height of the landscape etc, etc. There are very big differences between the two FlightPlan's. Not so, I think the Parrot version should look like Litchi's but should be able to lead Anafi's camera in quiet and calm motion. Litchi is also so many other things but .......... Wishful thinking for me would actually be that Litchi made an edition to Anafi !!! ;-)
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Oh forgot to comment on DJI. No, I do not think DJI comes with something that look like Parrot's FlightPlan. They should have done that a long time ago if ............. DJI is as Neanderthals that can not be moved but would rather die out.
Thanks Gerald! I am crazy impressed with the features this drone has. Finally a company made a drone that helps get great shots! They all have the gimmicky automated stuff but this is the first drone that I have seen that actually helps get the really challenging shots! The camera man and flight plan are game changers in my book! I cant wait for them to release the same drone with a top notch camera!
Loving your ANAFI tutorial videos sooo~ helpful. I wish there were videos like this on the Evo. The Anafi and Evo are the big popular drones right now that everyone wants to know every inch of before purchasing.
Hi Denon Yenah Gregory! Thanks for stopping by! I could definitely put something together for the EVO. I had access to one for about three weeks and really enjoyed it. To be honest, I think the 4K 60 from the EVO looks the best straight out of camera of any drone on the market right now. Granted the Mavic 2 pro looks incredible once color graded but straight out of camera I have to give it to the EVO. If Autel can iron out some quirks in the app, I think they could give DJI a run for their money.
HI Ken!! Thank you very much! This Flight Plan Parrot has made for the Anafi is hands down my favorite! Quick question for you, I have seen many comments about signal issues with the Anafi. I personally have never experienced any issues. Have you had any issues with signal and if so, do you know under what circumstances?
Ethan Mitchell I have had no issues beyond what is to be expected with range or obstructions. I had more issues with the Air in light urban areas than the Anafi. However if signal was clear I could generally get 100m more range from the Air. All in all the Anafi seemed more reliable where signal was concerned with less cut outs.
Hi Ethan! Very nice tutorial! I like the flight plan also because it works even when the drone lost connection so it's very useful in a places with strong interferences. Best regards!
QTips on low flying 7' flight plan for a subject traveling ~15mph, got a fixed course in a semi-closed environment. The focus is on getting shots from the bottom up getting out of or into a corner -TIA.
Hi Mono! Great question! I would try the follow me modes first, probably use lock. If that is not working for you can set up a flight plan and you would have to set the camera to look up but getting the timing right and keeping your moving subject in frame is going to be challenging using flight plan, but doable. I would not use POI because they cannot move. Follow me is probably your best bet. Lock mode will allow you to fly and it will keep the camera on your subject. Camera man will probably work too. Your subject does not have to be stationary for camera man.
Just had a thought, I’m assuming you want repeatability. You will have to set up a flight plan for that. So set your path the way you want, set you speed, 22 ft/sec is 15mph, and tilt the camera up. You will have to set a reference point to aim the camera at bc the Anafi does not display tilt angle. You will have get the timing right with your subject when you hit the go button.
Thanks AR 23!! I have been using this and Litchi for the DJI drones and this is much easier to use. It is also much smoother with the POI. I noticed Litchi seems to have a slight jump to it when using the POI feature. Litchi does have much more features to fine tune the route but Parrots Flight Plan is much easier to use.
HI Sean! Thanks for stopping by! Yes if there was one thing I would like to see different is to zoom in more on the map. If I want to get real precise with the waypoints I use a stylus.
Great video. I have used flight plan a couple of times but either they have improved it or you found out far more of the features than I found. Probably a bit of both.
Ethan, this is an excellent tutorial, providing in-depth information on flight planning that I couldn't find elsewhere. I like just how you have presented it, in a compact and understandable way. As a side question, what music had you chosen to play during the video? I'd like to look it up. Thanks again.
Again, luv luv luv these in depth reviews of features and showing an example of how to use the feature brings it all together. Now I want an Anafi even more. I've found a couple on CraigsList but they were not local and everyone assumes that if you are trying to purchase remotely you're trying to scam them.. and they won't deal with you. Reality is that if you use Paypal the only one who can get scammed is the buyer (if the product they sell is not as advertised or they simply chose to take your money and never send the product). Even so the sellers I've encountered haven't been willing to do business. Argh! My quest for a used Anafi continues.
HI Jet!! Thanks for stopping by and welcome to the channel!! Thank you for the support I really appreciate it! I personally avoid craigslist. Im not sure what country your in but Amazon USA you can find plenty of referb Anafis for $450. I would definitely scoop one up for that price if you can find it in your area.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Yep I agree. Amazon is a lot safer...I have seen one Anafi on Craigslist for $454 but I am looking to purchase the Extended combo or at least 2 extra batteries...and so far the cheapest price I've seen on Amazon for a refurbed Extended package is $675...not bad but I was hoping more in the $575 area...I'm willing to take the risk if I feel I can trust the seller. But it is a risk typically with no returns...so there are absolutely down sides to it. I'll keep looking and just have to trust my gut...and keep watching your videos. :-) Cheers
Yeah the extended package is pretty good. I started out with one battery but now I have three......well two and a half really. I typically never use more than 2. The 25min flight time per battery is really nice and I rarely need the third. I also have a PD USB-C 12v charger for the car so that charges them up in a decent amount of time. I did a battery mod on the 3rd bat to get under the 250g weight limit so it would not have to be registered. It brings the flight time down to about 8 min but its under 250g which in some areas can bypass some regulations. Here in the US they are constantly changing the laws so I anticipate the 250g weight laws may go away and everything will have to registered.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Thanks for the reply. Good to know you got by with just 1 battery for a while...maybe I can get by with just two batteries. Anafi batteries bought individually are kinda expensive. $99-$125. Besides the cost the thing that is making me pause on the Anafi now is the lack of support. Based on the half/non-answers I'm getting from Parrot support team it feels like Parrot doesn't have the infrastructure or inclination to really support their products in the US. Getting answers to what should be straight forward support/warranty questions is like pulling teeth. God help you if you have a crash that requires some serious repair..or you have a warranty issue. No Parrot USA repair shops, limited availability of Anafi parts, (evidently) you pay to ship your Anafi to and from France for them to address valid warranty claims. Don't buy a used drone because Parrot won't honor any remaining warranty on the Anafi for the new owner. And if you need a post warranty repair you literally have to have a postal address in Europe for Parrot to work on your Anafi or you're SOL if Parrot is the only party that can do the fix. . Yada Yada Yada..... I feel like I might as well be dealing with a cheap Chinese drone manufacturer. Not good. Totally unimpressed. Maybe I'll go DJI or a cheaper Chinese drone (Fimi X8 for $399). Hopefully Parrot's next response (+48 hours from now) will give me more clarity on their support. I guess its better to learn all this before you purchase the drone than after when you really need it.
Hey Jet! I have never tried to contact Parrot via email but I have called them several times to ask questions. I have always been able to get someone on the phone with Parrot Support. They are based on the west coast in the US. Here is the number, (877) 972-7768, 7a-5p Pacific time. You should try to give them a call. I dont think I have ever waited longer than 5min to speak with someone. So from my experience Parrot support has been stellar, I cant say the same about DJI. And as far as any other china based drone company, Im not sure about.
Ethan, just flew my first flight plan yesterday successfully in large part because of your great tutorial. YEA! It was fun but I must admit it was a little nerve wracking watching it fly autonomously for the first time. My finger was definitely hovering just above the Stop button should something have gone wrong...I didn't even notice the pause button. I had a couple of questions re: the Flight Plan..... 1) You mentioned that you can stop a Flight Plan that is currently executing in a number of different ways (i.e., Stop, Pause, etc). I assume that if you pause and then un-pause the flight plan it will just resume executing the flight plan where it left off? 2) Do you happen to know whether the RTH button will also stop the flight plan and the Anafi will do it's normal RTH behavior? BTW, another pilot's test showed that if you if you lose signal while executing a flight plan it will NOT perform the normal RTH fail safe but will instead finish the flight plan...assuming it has enough battery left to do so. What I don't know is whether the Flight Plan will over ride the low battery RTH fail safe. I don't plan to test that scenario. The Anafi's predecessor, the Bebop 2, didn't have a low battery fail safe RTH so it's not clear what the Anafi would do....but given that the flight plan over rides the loss of signal RTH fail safe I wouldn't be surprised if the low battery RTH failsafe wouldn't kick in as it would if you were in other flight modes....which means that it may just land where ever it is during the execution of the flight plan if it can't finish the flight plan due to low battery. Thoughts/Speculation? Cheers
HI Jet!! Glad it worked out for you! To answer your first two question yes, and yes. You can also take control with the sticks at anytime. This is actually the issue when people tell me the mission abruptly stops. They are accidentally hitting the sticks, inadvertently aborting the mission. YEs the Anafi will complete the mission even if it loses connection. I would hope the RTH low bat failsafe would override the mission but I personally have never tested it. And as far as the Anafi completing the mission if it loses connection, I have only tried this with connection loss to the app, not the remote. I think it may abort the mission and RTH if it loses connection with the remote but I have not tried that either. LOL Next chance I get I will try it out and get back to you.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Ethan, thanks for the quick reply. After re-watching your video for the third time I realized that you actually listed moving the sticks as being one of the ways to end the mission. So you covered all of the normal ways to stop/pause a mission. Re: loss of signal to the RC, that would be an interesting test to perform. I'm guessing that the Anafi would actually complete the mission even on signal loss because it's flying autonomously at that point...it has everything it needs to complete the mission with or without the controller's input. Care to bet? :-) Cheers
Jet I have answers for you! During a flight plan mission, the Anafi will continue to fly the mission even if it loses radio connection. During a flight plan today I closed the radio and the Anafi continued to fly the mission, then did a RTH when the mission was complete. I also tested low battery RTH during a mission and yes the Anafi aborted the mission and did a RTH when it was at 8%. Just a word of caution using the low battery RTH. It is an emergency feature and should not be avoided if possible. During the low bat RTH today the Anafi did not quite make it to the ground. It did a complete shut down at about 5 ft off the ground and fell. I checked the Anafi to see if it just shut the motors off or if the battery died, and it was the battery. So this goes to show Parrot does not leave much margin for extra power during a low bat RTH. Plus I had my RTH height set way to high ( forgot to change it from a previous flight) and the Anafi went up to 300 ft. I was only fling at 100 ft so if it did not climb to that height and fight the winds it prob would have made it to the ground.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Oh wow...thanks!!!!! SCARY on the low voltage RTH!!!!! Glad that Gertrude wasn't damaged (I just named your Anafi for you...you're welcome...lol). "She just takes a lickin and keeps tickin". Gertrude must be a cat...now that has only 8 lives remaining. I have to say I'm not at all surprised that the Anafi finishes the flight plan when the signal is lost. That allows you fly missions way beyond the Wifi range but well within the battery limits. Which I really like. BTW I extended my previous Flight Plan to fly even further than I had in my prior Flight Plan. My Anafi was WAY WAY WAY out of sight (shhhhh...I need a spotter :-)) and I got repeated messages about WiFi interference/Poor receptions...threatening to RTH at any minute.... but it never did..it just kept chugging along and eventually returned...but I must say that my heart was pounding and I was white knuckled...even said a few prayers...."Oh great Anafi Gods...Let her return please! :o)...So I'm getting more confidence in the Anafi everyday I fly...but I do wonder if I'm pushing my luck too much here? The Flight Plan takes me deep into these fingerling canyons (no houses in the canyons but only on the ridges...so it's no risk property or life...well maybe a random coyote or rabbit) and I really can't see it during much of it's route...so there is no way it is getting a wifi signal from my controller due to the distance and interference... But man am I happy when it reappears. LOL. Re: Low voltage RTH...YES! I agree one should never rely on low voltage RTH failsafe...only in emergency or only in the name of science...you're definitely pushing your luck with that one. I am very happy to hear that it did EXACTLY the right thing on low battery. Also glad it made it (almost) back to you. You must have been white knuckling it..and then to see it fall to the ground. YIKES!!! Please don't do that again! You know I wish Parrot would have a dedicated section in their manual that summarizes the expected "behavior" of the RTH failsafe under ALL situations (distance from home point, heights,.20m, heights X, flight modes (Manual, Follow me, Flight Plan). Today the RTH description is both incomplete and scattered all about the manual so it's hard to get your arms around the exact behavior. BTW, I'm REALLY surprised that your Anafi didn't give itself enough battery level to make it all the way back home. As you said it must have been that super high RTH altitude of 300 feet. Many of the distance flight test reviews I've seen indicate that the Anafi has a VERY conservative low voltage RTH. In some of these distance tests, if I recall correctly, the Anafi initiated RTH with >50% battery life landed with 25% batt life or more remaining. I suspect that Parrot's algorithm needs to be tuned a bit and certainly needs to factor in the RTH height. A couple of questions: 1 - I don't know but I'm assuming that the GPS locations of every Waypoint is stored in the Anafi when you select it and submit it to run. So therefore there really is no need for the Anafi to communicate with the controller to complete the mission because it has it's own GPS communication with the satellites. Is that your understanding? 2 - I wonder about the low voltage RTH though, while I fully expect that the Anafi can detect it's own battery level it would seem that the algorithm for calculating when to trigger low voltage RTH would be running in the Free Flight app? So if you lost connectivity to the app permanently the Anafi would merrily keep marching along the flight plan and never get that low voltage trigger from the app. If that is true I would hope that the Anafi's internal sensors would trigger a safe landing in place if the battery got too low...even if it didn't get a RTH voltage trigger from the App. This is just speculation on my part. Your thoughts? Thanks again for testing this!
Great video Ethan! Did you resolve your "camera tilt-angle" (during Flight-Plan)? Seems to work well in Android for me ... except to look UPWARD you place a "minus sign" before the angle as in "-30" which results in mostly SKY gazing. -James
this is why i will be buying the parrot anafi.... i miss programming the flight plan when i had the bebop 2 ...i was a pro at it out 3 miles along side the river and lakes ...flying from one park to another programming the camera to look down 10 degrees then to 20 then back to 30 degrees over rock quarry's ...miss the bebop 2 but after buying the autel evo now ill get the drone i really wanted and thats the anafi...although i told myself i was done with wifi drones ..i got to have it
Hi Tony! Well the 4K 60 on the Evo looks fantastic but yes the flight plan on the Anafi is way better than waypoints on the Evo. Another comment introduced me to litchi for the DJI drones so I’m going to give that a try tomorrow. Litchi and Parrots Flight Plan look very similar.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam i thought about purchasing the litchi app but i just dont want to fly with a 3rd party app that is not dji ... plus i just rather do it with parrot anafi than the mavic pro....i just trust parrot......all the flightplans i did .. it was never an error or anything always worked flawless and came back to me
Thanks Ethan, love your tutorial . I think this will help me decide Anafi over Mavic Air ( off line map download ahead ) I am interested the results in 4K more so than actual flying a vehicle. Being a photographer and a beginner videographer .
HI dquarks! Thanks for stopping by! The camera on the Anafi and Mavic Air are pretty close in regards to image quality. Now the Anafi does offer more useful camera features with cameraman, LOG, HDR and photo bracketing. Also the longer flight time allows for nice time lapse and time to get better composition. The Mavic Air feels like its built like a tank which is nice but thats what makes it very loud and shorter flight time. The Mavic Air has 2.7k @ 60fps which pretty nice if you need higher quality slow mo. I personally am a fan of the Anafi but I also have DJI products too.
Great tutorial. FlightPlan is one of my favorite features. One thing I was not certain about and might have missed it, is how to save the flight plan. I have figured it out and that makes it perfect. The only remaining question I have is, given the small screen of the iPhone (which I use to fly the Anafi), can I use my ipad to develop a flight plan and then transfer the file to my iPhone for use in the field? Thank you very much.
HI Cee Dee! I wish you could do that!! That is prob one of my biggest complaints about flight plan is being able to transfer missions from device to device just like Litchi with DJI drones. Unfortunately you cannot to my knowledge. Furthermore if you need to uninstall and reinstall the app for any reason all your missions will be lost. Waypoint 2.0 on the new Mavic 2's works the same way and for the time being, the only app that stores missions in a cloud is Litchi, to my knowledge.
On Android the flight plans are stored in a directory named freeflight 6/flightplan/nameoftheplan/savedplan.json I do not know how iOS does it but looks easy to copy.
And you can run Freeflight 6 on an Android emulator. I created a flight plan with Nox (bignox.org) on my full Windows PC screen. I haven't copied it over to try it yet but it seems uncomplicated.
Hi mrdoctorprofessor729! Thanks for stopping by! Great question! During Flight Plan if your not using a POI, you can tilt the camera up and down during the mission. You will not be able to change camera yaw. Camera yaw will be determine by the direction of the waypoints. You cannot add cineshots to flight plan, but it would not surprise me if they add this feature in the future.
HI Le castor subversif! Thanks for stopping by! The POI in Flight Plan can be very useful if you have a subject you would like to focus on and keep the camera movements very smooth. You can also do this with camera man and orbit mode but camera man would not be as smooth because your still flying by hand and orbit will be a radius with a fixed speed. In flight plan POI, you can control the speed, have the Anafi move in a straight line, change height between waypoints, and since it is an automated path, the flight speed and direction is extremely smooth, all while keeping the camera fixed on the POI. Its very difficult to achieve this look by hand.
Thanks Ethan, there is lots on UA-cam about Parrot Anafi flight plan. Having said that there is always something that may have been overlooked. So I watched your video with interest to see if there was something I’d missed. Sure enough there was the PLAN OPTION “automatic progressive course” NO YES setting. I saw on a forum that this was not working for Anafi. Now I haven’t tested it myself however I wonder if you can explain the behaviour when selecting NO and Yes. What does it actually mean?
hi Robert!! Thanks for stopping by and great question. When Progressive course is set to yes, the Anafi will pass through the different waypoints without stopping. In this mode if you have different headings at each waypoint, the Anafi will also turn toward the next heading as it flies to the next waypoint. If NO is selected, the Anafi will pause at each waypoint. If you have different heading at each waypoint, the Anafi will stay straight until it reaches the next waypoint, then turn all at once. It will not be a gradual motion like with progressive. Hope this helps.
Hi Cloud Base! Thanks for stopping by! An IOS, go into setting and go to control center, customize. Then scroll down and add screen capture. The screen capture icon will now be in your control center. At your home screen slide up, then press the record button. IOS will now record your screen. When finished press stop and it will saved to your gallery. Hope this helps!
Hey Ethan :) Do you know if it is possible to add a certain position of the anafi to a flight plan? Or record a flight and save it as a flight plan? Any idea?
Hi Der Merkel!! Yes you can set certain drone and camera positions in the flight plan. You cannot record an position technically but you can fly the Anafi to a location and set a waypoint in the same spot on the map. A drone icon appears on the map where the Anafi is located. Not sure if that made any Sense?? Lol let me know if that helps.
Ethan, one other thing is what if my terrain will be from top of a cliff over a very steep valley and back. The height will constant change. Would that be a problem ? Thanks
Great question!! I was just talking about this with a friend last weekend. So starting off with the basics...Where the Anafi takes off is 0 altitude. When setting up a flight plan, your altitude numbers will be in reference to that position as 0. So if you start a flight plan at the top of a cliff, and you want to fly down into a valley, those waypoints will be a negative number. In situations like this, of any other where im not sure what to set the altitude, I will pre fly the route and note the different altitudes. If your using follow me, the Anafi should rise and fall according to the barometer in your device.
Does the Anafi have a "find me" option (audio alert) when it falls out of the sky and ya can't see it in the bushes? Thanks Also, today I was flying, and at nearly the end of my mission, the drone was ~ 70' up and ~ 40' from me. I got the low battery warning and when I hit the return to Home button, it ignored the command ... and ... subsequently, as I was trying to maneuver it back to me, it decided to give up the ghost and dropped straight down to the ground. Fortunately, it traveled through the thin ends of tree branched and ended up on the moist earth, with some weeds & grass, to cushion the fall. Took me a while to find it. Thanks for any input on this. Cheers, Chuck (NE Florida) : +)
Hi Chuck! Thanks for stopping by! Yes the anafi does have a beeper. If you go to the main menu screen, where you can view the gallery, click on the drone icon at the top of the screen, then it will take you to a status screen where you can see any error with the motors or gimbal, you can also click on the map and it will show you the drone location and you can activate the beeper with the bell icon. I have heard of the low battery warning coming on and then the Anafi drops out of the sky. I have not had this happen to me but it seems to be associated with the last firmware update. Hope this helps.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Thanks for your reply --and quick reply-- Here's yesterday's experience: As I was shooting an industrial building, my drone was 65' up in the air and about 45' from me, and I got a low battery warning. I hit the Return To Home button ... and it did not even try to return to home. And before I could get it back on the ground the battery died and the drone dropped like a rock to the ground. Fortunately, it came down through the ends of the branches of a 40' to 50' tree and landed on the dirt & weeds ground underneath. If if had been 15' either side it would've either hit the pavement near me ... or ... the huge pile of sharp metal in the recycling yard. So, I was very fortunate in that respect. It doesn't look as if it sustained any damage, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. Also, the video file was corrupted. Ya think that the firmware would've at least stopped the Recording. Cheers, Chuck
@@MagicBiscuitShow hopefully it survived and does not have any problems. As far as the corrupt video file goes, if you start the drone and start recording another video, then stop it, it may fix the previous video. DJI drones will do the same thing in the event of a power loss and this is how you fix it. As far as the RTH goes, two things come to mind as to why it did not do a RTH. If the drone is close to the home point, I would say within 50’, it will not do a RTH. Also if the battery is too low, it will not do a RTH, it will just land. If I were to guess it may have been the battery is why it did not RTH. I has also experienced this with the ANafi where I ran the battery down to low and it dropped out of the sky, fortunately mine was only 10’ up. I would recommend not going below 15% on the battery. I have noticed DJI has even updated the RTH warning to 20% where they used to be lower. Hope this helps.
HI Paolo Picchel!! If the Anafi loses signal from the controller, it will return to the home point. The home point is the location where the Anafi first acquires GPS, so its a good habit to wait for GPS lock before taking off. I have never had a GPS signal too weak to navigate unless around or in buildings.
Hi BJ Nicholls! Thanks for stopping by. Yes I have been having issues with the last update as well. I spoke with Parrot and they are aware of the issue and stated they are working on it. One of my subs from France said they got an update today so hopefully we will have one available today as well.
Hi PhilippZwei! When using flight plan without a POI you can tilt the camera up and down during the flight but you cannot pan during the flight, that has to be set in the flight plan. If you pan or touch the sticks in any way the Anafi will Stop.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Thank you for your answer and your great videos. Pan during flight would be another great feature. Maybe in combination with an easy way to change the overall "playback" speed. Maybe Parrot reads this ;) I think of filming some sport event with a fixed track. One could set waypoints along the track and if a person is running then we could adjust the playback speed (for faster or slower persons) and just concentrate on moving the camera
@@PhilippZwei You would need a Follow Me/ Flight Plan combination mode for what you would want to do. Right now the Follow Me Lock mode is prob going to work the best for that application. The Anafi will stay with the subject but you can move the Anafi around to get different angles while it keeps the camera on the moving subject.
@@PhilippZwei Come to think of it Camera Man will work too but you will have to fly. Camera man will track a moving subject. The drone will stay stationary unless you move it.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam I got my Anafi a few days ago and finally it stopped raining and I could test it. Follow Me and flightplan cost me only about 1,2€ each and the cameraman function works pretty good. But with follow me my anafi got crazy and flew two times full speed in different directions, only with the land-button I could stop it before it crashed somewhere. Btw I had to install an update and now there is a histogram view and a panorama photo mode
Great video, I find the FreeFlight 6 app still very buggy, I can’t get follow me to work on my Samsung S7 when I choose track or dynamic it gets stuck in locked mode and won’t change
Hi Ghosttjr2! Have you tried it on another device? I also have a Galaxy S7 but have had no issues since I deleted a lot of apps I was not using. Just throwing this out there, maybe there is a app, or many apps on your phone that are using the processor when they shouldn't be. You will have to go into the app manager and force stop/uninstall apps that are not needed. This will free up the processor. The follow me modes, especially track and dynamic, need a lot of processing power to keep up with the tracking movements and GPS. Could also be an app that is causing a conflict in the software and thats why its getting stuck.
I still have issues with camera tilt (latest updates to this date), it lacks precision (90° is not reallly vertical, variations between different flights with the same plan).
I will try to get the Anafi out Tomorrow and see if I have that issue as well. Could you send me an email with a screenshot of your flight plan and also tell me what firmware version is on the Anafi and on the remote. Also what device are you using? BroadReachPro@gmail.com
Does the video stop recording if you set it to take a picture during the flight plan then start back up recording after the picture is taken or does it continue to record video while the picture is being taken?
It usually will start the recording back up after you take a picture with flight plan. To make sure, in the time line, make sure the time line is red after the photo. If it is not, you can drag the record icon back into the time line.
Good night when I make a flight plan and try to add the camera's rotation control field, a "georeference" signal appears in my flight line and does not allow me to control the camera. What do I have to do to correct this error? thank you
HI ALexandre! Thanks for stopping by! I will look into this tomorrow but let me get a bit more info from you. What device are you using? Does it have cellular connection in the field? Does it have a GPS connection in the field? Also if you would like, you could take a screen shot and send it to my email, that may be helpful as well. BroadReachPro@gmail.com . Also one more thing, does this happen when you are planning a flight plan when connected or disconnected from the drone?
FYI...the POI symbols on my Android phone are all circles (vs square shaped like in your video) with a google map type marker in the center of the POI symbol. Initially I thought Parrot had probably just updated the POI symbol since your video was published, however, then I saw that someone just posted their Anafi in depth Flight Plan video a couple of days ago and his Flight plan had the same POI square shaped symbols as yours...his phone was an Apple phone (IOS)...so. I have to assume it is just an Android vs IOS difference? BTW, the POI functionality on Android works exactly the same as yours...as one would expect.
Hi Jonah! Thanks for stopping by! Are the individual legs indicating progressive? They will have extra arrows, or is the leg just a straight line? Also I have not tried using Flight Plan since the last firmware update, there are a few bugs in it on IOS.
They have extra arrows. I have 5 bebop drones so I know the application very well! The anafi is flying the flight plan exactly like I chose constant. But I have it as progressive. It goes to each waypoint and stops. I’ve never had this issue with my other drones. This is the first time I’ve had an issue with a parrot drone
Interesting, I have not had that problem but I have not used Flight Plan since the last update 4 days ago. I will give it a try in the morning. It most likely is a bug in the firmware.
@@jonahvandever3086 I spent an hour today going through scenarios trying to see if I could replicate your issue but could not. The Anafi was able to switch between progressive and constant without any issue. It even passed through waypoints without pausing. I did notice that if I had a large change in direction and height the anafi would pause for a moment. I did have another very big issue, I lost the video feed multiple times using an iphone. This happend multiple times and was not related to the cord. I still had telemetry and could still control the Anafi but no video, it was completely black, no static. This seemed to happen more frequently when using the HDR. This only happened once on the Galaxy S7 when it first connected. Restarted the App with no further issues. This is def a big issue and I hope they resolve it quickly.
When it comes to the Zoom on the anafi, do you have to do that manually as it flys? If you do that will it stop the flight? Also if you wanted to tilt the camera
HI Boneyars101! Yes you have to zoom the camera manually and no that will not stop the flight. You can also tilt the camera during the flight as long as you do not have a POI assigned or a camera tilt assigned. Hope this helps
I have made few videos on the Anafi and put them in a playlist. ua-cam.com/play/PLQbUw6FXgy7Mt7Ioiw6kyXy1wPwWjdu2e.html in that playlist I have a cool video of the anafi following me on the boat and in the Anafi update I demonstrate the follow modes. Let me know if you would like me to make a video of another feature.
Is there a way to make a flight plan say on your computer and then transfer it to your phone in the app. Seems easier to do on the computer with a mouse instead of my fat fingers on the phone
Hi mzimmerman12! GREAT question!! As of now, and it does NOT look like Parrot has any plans to change this. No, you cannot make a flight plan on a computer then upload it to Free Flight in the field for the Anafi to fly. This would have been a great feature to add. The only app that can do this, that im aware of, is Litchi for DJI drones. I asked them a long time ago to make a version for the Anafi but I doubt that will come. There is some mapping software that can do this and Pix4d does work with the Aanfi, but your not going to get the features you will have with flight plan in the Free FLight app.
I guess auto correct took over on my last comment. My question.... can modes be changed within flight plan. Say going from normal to hyper lapse of slow motion etc.
Hi Corry! Thanks for stopping by! Great question! I have never tried but I will but I will get back to you. Im pretty sure you can change the camera mode before you start the flight plan but i will verify later today. I do not think you can change the camera mode during the flight plan but I will look into it and get back to you.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Thanks. I just got an Anafi for Christmas.....a bit overwhelming especially since it's my first ever drone, never even flown one before. I have to say, so far it's been fun and easy to fly. I definitely need to get the basics down first before trying more advanced flights though. I'm happy people like yourself are spending time with this drone in a sea of DJI reviews.
@@corrybowers5078 congrats on your first drone!! The Anafi is a great drone! Just remember fly slow and when you get into a jam, let go off the sticks and stop. Thats prob the hardest part. I would not recommend flying indoors either as a beginner pilot. 99% of my drone crashes have happened indoors lol
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Thanks I'm pretty stoked about it!! lol funny you say that. I did try indoors a couple of times because the weather was bad and I was wanting to try it....yes I crashed. Outdoors has been trouble free, just going slow and steady getting a feel for it.
@@corrybowers5078 ok Corry, I have answers for you. so the camera controls work independently during the flight plan. while the Anafi is flying the course, you can change the camera mode and exposure during the flight. The Anafi will not stop and keep flying the route while you make changes. You cannot pre program a camera mode into the timeline. You can only preset the camera to start or stop within the timeline. Hope this helps.
My anafi wont do flight plan says drone isn't calibrated which I do before every flight ?? What going on here my pretty experience in drones but I've tried everything?
I have not seen this problem yet. It could be related to the new firmware update. I would call Parrot and have them help diagnose the problem. There is a few bugs in the lasted update that they are working on.
Hi man, i told you that I recently bought a Anafi. I flew it a few times but my video quality isn’t good compared with your quality. Do you have any idea how this can be solved? Or do i something wrong?
Hi Daan, sure I can help. I typically always film in PLOG with manual exposure then color grade. Sometimes if I just want something quick and don’t want to color grade I will film in HDR and set a manual white balance. Tell what setting you are using and maybe you can send me some of your footage.
HI Petri Y! Thanks for stopping by! To answer your question no, it does not matter if you have the drone in sport mode or film. It will fly at the speed you set between way points and the drone will not bank in turns.
Just seen this Prepared the Map. It did the 17 sections Came back and said PREPARE MAP AGAIN I cant get it to show a new map It just comes back to my home map This is the latest update not sure if its faulty What do I do now
HI Richard Simmons, maybe try to save and create a new mission? Im not sure if I follow whats going on but when you open a new mission, its going to default to your current location and then you have to scroll to the location you want to create the mission. Also make sure you are connect to data when doing this to the app can update the map. It does not keep the maps stored on the device after the app is closed. It will save the mission, but not the map.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam So how do you create a mission please Its just started raining so i can do that Everytime I down load a map it returns to the original Mission sound good
Seems like I was expecting too much Gone into Flight Plan and Moved to the area I wanted to set up then saved the flight plan Though I needed to Download a map Thanks
HI Kraig! No I have not had this issue. Couple of things to try and troubleshoot. What device are you using? How many apps are running in the background? If your on an andriod device I highly recommend closing or force stopping non OS apps through the app manager. On my Galaxy S7, the Free Flight 6 app would be glitchy ( as would DJI Go 4, Breeze Camera App, etc) when a lot of other apps were running in the background. ( one of the reasons why I switched to Apple for Drone use) . Also are you trying to save a flight plan when flying or ahead of time? Should not make a difference either but you never know. If none of these fix the problem uninstall and reinstall the app. Also has it always been like this or is it only with the recent firmware update? Let me know if this helps- other people may be having the same issue.
It's a bummer that Parrot decided to leave the prosumer drone market (2021), they had by FAR the best software platform. Said by a guy who used muy Bebop 2 until the point of not finding good new batteries anymore. Regards.
HI Mimo! Sorry for the late response but I completely agree! FOr the longest time I would use the Anafi and Mavic 2 Pro on shoots. I was really hoping Parrot would come out with a pro level 1" sensor platform.
Welcome back!! How was Asia? My wife really wants to go but I have been on the fence. Yes the new update is great, I feel like Parrot is giving us exactly what we ask for, and more! I was not expecting the precision landing, or any of the additional features they put in. I’m definitely going to spend some time with the drone tomorrow and hope to get a video out next week. I’m working on my top 5 picks for Christmas right now. Did you get any footage of Asia?
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam do it you'll love it in Asia . I have posted 2 videos on this channel and one one my new . My last one had issues was closed 😥 Yeah I'm really happy with this update , ticked so many boxes .
I am super impressed with what Parrot has done with this Drone. Between this update and the last, there are so many features that really bring the Anafi to the front of the pack!! Who knows what else they may be able to do?? 4K 60??? Maybe some 10bit action????? (Watch out Mavic 2 Pro) LOL , JK I think they could potentially do 4k 60 with a crop or switching to H265 codec, but thats just wishful thinking on my part. (LOVE!! the 4k 60 on the EVO) It would be great if they could squeeze out 2.7k 60 but all in all I am super happy with what they have done.
Awesome man thanks!
Happy to help. Hope you found this useful.
You explain things well. You'd make a better than most teacher.
Hi dave! Thanks for stopping by! Thanks for the kind words. I do teach in the medical field from time to time. LOL
Thank you for this video! It's one of the most useful nine minutes I've ever spend on UA-cam.
Thanks Ethan. I'm French and I love your videos. They are clear, straight to the point and I learnt a lot watching them. keep going.
I see, hopefully it’s something simple and they can get us the updates quickly. I’m not very comfortable flying like this.
Love the multiple poi optionality. Can automate all of the b roll you need in one go.
HI Chase! ?Yes the Flight Plan on the Anafi is stellar!
My real job is getting busy so I cant post as much as I did this summer but I enjoy it. Definitely post the link when you do!
@Ethan Mitchell Definitely gotta do these types of tutorials on the Evo. There isn't really no tutorials about it, they're all vague. Nothing in depth like this on the Evo.
I will start putting something together for the EVo!
The follow me and flight plan both work extremely well and help getting awesome shots!
great vid ethan
HI Ken! Thanks for stopping by!! Thank you very much!!
Thanks Ethan! Flight Plan is awesome!!
I think Parrot could address these issues with software but they to address some issues with there last update first. Thanks for your input!
Wishful thinking for me would actually be that Litchi made an edition to Anafi !!! ;-)
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Yes it's probably something like that happend. Hope that the next time is happening happiness. Again tnx Ethan. ;-)
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Oh forgot to comment on DJI. No, I do not think DJI comes with something that look like Parrot's FlightPlan. They should have done that a long time ago if ............. DJI is as Neanderthals that can not be moved but would rather die out.
This video is incredibly helpful. Thank you!
Really well done! Simply amazing what you can pull off with this little done. Really enjoying all the videos you are doing of the Anafi.
Many Thanks. Great video. Greetings from Germany
Hi Stephan B!! Thanks for stopping by!! Thank you very much!! We are hoping to get to Germany next year!!
Great video that is very clear and concise. Flightplan is a great function where signal is week or your hands cannot get that smooth footage.
Thanks Ken! Yes I experienced the same thing with the Air.
Awesome tutorial!!! I know where to send ANAFI flyers for sure.
Hi matt ball! Thanks for stopping by! If you go to my channel, I have put them all in the Anafi playlist. Thanks for the support!
WELL DONE !!! Thanks.
Thank you Roma! Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Ethan! Very nice tutorial! I like the flight plan also because it works even when the drone lost connection so it's very useful in a places with strong interferences. Best regards!
Hi Ruffalsky! Thanks for stopping by!! I cant say enough good things about this drone! Its definitely one of my favorites!
Amazing tutorial.....tanti saluti from Italy
HI Ruben! Thanks for stopping by!! Thank you every much!!
Thanks as always - so pro!
Thanks BryTunes! Testing out my new light!
Nice one I needed this
Thanks AR 23!! I have been using this and Litchi for the DJI drones and this is much easier to use. It is also much smoother with the POI. I noticed Litchi seems to have a slight jump to it when using the POI feature. Litchi does have much more features to fine tune the route but Parrots Flight Plan is much easier to use.
Good job for this tutorial!!! I wish it make the way point mark smaller, it is hard to put a way point near the launch point.
HI Sean! Thanks for stopping by! Yes if there was one thing I would like to see different is to zoom in more on the map. If I want to get real precise with the waypoints I use a stylus.
Hi, Only one word ... super 👍 !!!!! Thanks
Thanks Pascal!!
Great footage..
HI Bart! Thank you Very much!!
great!! thanks
Great video. I have used flight plan a couple of times but either they have improved it or you found out far more of the features than I found. Probably a bit of both.
Hi Reconnaissance Squadron! Thanks for stopping by! They have updated flight plan 3x from what I can tell.
Cheers
Thanks !great episode it's perfect for me ...more more..
Thanks Maurizio!!
Dzięki :-) Pomogłeś mi w wyborze drona :-)
Cheers
A couple of questions:
1 - I don't know but I'm assuming that the GPS locations of every Waypoint is stored in the Anafi when you select it and submit it to run.
-James
HI James! Yes it seems to work fine now after the last update.
thank you
this is why i will be buying the parrot anafi.... i miss programming the flight plan when i had the bebop 2 ...i was a pro at it out 3 miles along side the river and lakes ...flying from one park to another programming the camera to look down 10 degrees then to 20 then back to 30 degrees over rock quarry's ...miss the bebop 2 but after buying the autel evo now ill get the drone i really wanted and thats the anafi...although i told myself i was done with wifi drones ..i got to have it
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam i thought about purchasing the litchi app but i just dont want to fly with a 3rd party app that is not dji ... plus i just rather do it with parrot anafi than the mavic pro....i just trust parrot......all the flightplans i did .. it was never an error or anything always worked flawless and came back to me
Yes that’s the most important thing, to always have the bird come back!! Lol
I wish you get 2k subscribe soon
Thanks Kon! We are getting there!
Wow, you take time to write a script. That's work bro, well done.
I haven't copied it over to try it yet but it seems uncomplicated.
is there a way to manually control camera during flight? or ad cineshots
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam *yaw
@@foam27 LOL Thank you! For some reason the auto correct like yall instead of yaw.
I don’t understand how to set the POI so as to it’s useful
It looks difficult to draw a real circle around a POI. Is it?
Not really, you would just have to put in multiple waypoints and put them all to focus on your POI.
Thanks Ethan!
What do use for screen capture it seems to work very well. I am on IOS any suggestions would be appreciated.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Perhaps a Video on doing a Video!!
Nice
Hey Ethan :) Do you know if it is possible to add a certain position of the anafi to a flight plan? Or record a flight and save it as a flight plan? Any idea?
Hi Der Merkel!! Yes you can set certain drone and camera positions in the flight plan. You cannot record an position technically but you can fly the Anafi to a location and set a waypoint in the same spot on the map. A drone icon appears on the map where the Anafi is located. Not sure if that made any Sense?? Lol let me know if that helps.
Great video. I'm curious, is it possible to adjust the more within flight plan....normal to hyperkalemia or slow motion etc?
Thanks
Also, today I was flying, and at nearly the end of my mission, the drone was ~ 70' up and ~ 40' from me.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam Thanks for your reply --and quick reply--
Here's yesterday's experience: As I was shooting an industrial building, my drone was 65' up in the air and about 45' from me, and I got a low battery warning.
Have you tried setting the altitude of a way point higher than 492'?
HI TheMysreryTravelShow! No I have not but I would assume the software would not allow it.
Many thanks for your videos guide; a question: if anafi lost signal from controller or the gps is weak what happen?
HI Paolo Picchel!! If the Anafi loses signal from the controller, it will return to the home point. The home point is the location where the Anafi first acquires GPS, so its a good habit to wait for GPS lock before taking off. I have never had a GPS signal too weak to navigate unless around or in buildings.
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam thanks, another reason to love anafi 🙂
Yeah Parrot did a good job with this one!! Its definitely at the top of my list!
Looks like an iPhone keypad. The Android version of the app has bugs and I'm not sure if the viewpoint editing works in the most recent update.
Hi BJ Nicholls! Thanks for stopping by. Yes I have been having issues with the last update as well. I spoke with Parrot and they are aware of the issue and stated they are working on it. One of my subs from France said they got an update today so hopefully we will have one available today as well.
Is it possible to set up a flight plan but use it just for drone movement and control the camera via the controller?
I cant find your other question but yes you can set the flight plan to take photos and video.
Good night
when I make a flight plan and try to add the camera's rotation control field, a "georeference" signal appears in my flight line and does not allow me to control the camera.
Yes you are correct, the symbols are different on android.
Hi Ethan! So I got a anafi, I have it on progressive course and it’s still acting like it’s on constant. Your thoughts?
I’m also using an android for waypoints. Haven’t tried iOS yet but I’ll see if it changes
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam thanks so much! Have you considered doing a video for follow me and one for free flight 6 in general?

in that playlist I have a cool video of the anafi following me on the boat and in the Anafi update I demonstrate the follow modes.

Also, what editing software are you using?
Yeah i shoot in natural. But when i put the sd-card in my computer (iMac) then the video quality isnt good
If i try to upload it on UA-cam it is 360 instead of 1080
anyone know if the flying mode (film/sports) or banked turn setting affect to flight plan?
HI Petri Y! Thanks for stopping by! To answer your question no, it does not matter if you have the drone in sport mode or film. It will fly at the speed you set between way points and the drone will not bank in turns.

I've successfully saved one flight plan in free flight 6. Everytime I go to save, the app crashes. Does this happen to you at all?
Hi buddy , long time . Hope all is well.
Just back from Asia . New update yesterday big one . You finally got your histogram and zebra .
My last one had issues was closed 😥
Yeah I'm really happy with this update , ticked so many boxes .
@@EthanMitchell_UA-cam this is me now for drone footage . Please like subscribe haha .
(LOVE!! the 4k 60 on the EVO) It would be great if they could squeeze out 2.7k 60 but all in all I am super happy with what they have done.
great stuff. (hessybear)
