I almost panic bought the a7siii... but really, except for autofocus, the S1H is a fantastic hybrid. With more firmware support to come, I look forward to using it a lot more in the future
I think the S1H won this comparison. In almost every case, the Lumix was clearer, sharper, and had more realism. I own both and I trust the Panasonic more to deliver quality footage. Did I mention that Sony IBIS is horrendous.
Should be noted that you can actually calibrate the color in the Sony menu. Takes time to get right, but every time I add a Sony it’s been AWESOME to be able to spend upfront time having them always match going forward. Solid breakdown sir
I find it so surprising how people refuse to accept this fact. It is very possible to fix the picture color to match the sony to panasonic, but it's not possible to fix the shots you miss because the panasonic can't focus. I like both cameras. folks just need to honest about the comparison.
Very informative, Dustin. I sense, both are outstanding cameras for videos, with the Sony AF being a class by itself. As a S1H owner I was surprised to see the S1H performing much better in low noise and high ISO. Would I have bought the S1H when the Sony A7s III had already been in the market? Yes and No. The S1H is heavy and bulky, especially on a gimbal, but it is robust and can record for hours in the sun, etc... So, as you mentioned: excellent cameras for specific users.
Definitely recommend the S1H as a Cine cam. In the future video talking about their differences, this is a big difference with the S1H. More of a Cine camera
@@husainfoolath4287 agree this , don't buy S1H buy the S5, half price, same mass. I don't know why except for S1H, a similar S5 was immediately produced, and the price difference was so big that I suddenly felt that S1H was not worth the money
S1H has better codecs, better ergonomics, an OLPF, built in fan, better ibis, unlimited recording, bigger battery, full size HDMI, possibly a better pre amp (I don’t know though), there’s a decent amount the S5 doesn’t have the S1H has. Is it worth 2k more though to get that stuff? I don’t know
If ur considering the s1h just buy a7siii , it's cheaper & better. With that said I bought the s5 for the small cropped 6k @ 30fps, 200mbs and h.265. Couldn't resist 2,300usd for 6k! Lol I made the switch from the a7sii with the Tamron 17-28mm. Miss the lens but 20mm f 3.5 isn't too bad
Very good and concise comparison. I would love to see a panning comparison. Doing a smooth slow or medium speed panning on a tripod, with the background in focus, for both cameras. I have found that in all the YT footage I have seen so far, the A7sIII tends to create a "choppy" feeling for camera movement, and instead of a smooth movement there seems to be a succession of still images.
Check out the Sony A1. It's freakishly expensive (about $6500), but it shoots 8K, its color rivals Canon cameras, and it still has the slow-motion and autofocus of the A7SIII.
A7siii biggest weakness is their heavy handed noise reduction for higher isos. I much prefer the s1h's handling of noise. Just don't screw the image, give me all the noise and details too. Sony just smudges all the details with the noise. Horrible honestly. The only thing stopping me from getting the Panasonic is the af. Do you think its useable for example for a sitting interview?
I agree. Something about the Panasonic image that keeps me coming back. Yes I think so. Like 90% of my videos were made with Panasonic AF of me talking to camera
@@DustinArmstrongPro I don't want to advertise my channel, but if you have 36 seconds and want to see a video that I recorded with s1h yesterday ... An opinion would be interesting. Thank you anyway! ua-cam.com/video/M0l4YPtKSYs/v-deo.html
Thanks for your video. It is frustrating to see both of these cameras look great and horrible in different situations. I am looking to upgrade my GH5 and it is a tough decision these days between the R5, a7SIII and the S-series. Panny is a great choice but I do not like that their lenses turn the Nikon way which limits one to Sigma or adapted Canons with a so-so adapter. Love the open gamma of the a7SIII but sometimes the color is nasty with the green/yellow tint. The R5 is great and poor at the same time etc...
From what I understand, the A7s III suffers from overheating same as the Canon mirrorless, they just last a little longer before shutting down. The S1H and S5 are the only ones that give you true unlimited recording time. There's reasons not to be real concerned about the AFC on the Panny, but there's no way to get around having to plan a shoot around when your camera is going to heat up and need cooled down.
@@below90hz it’s actually not even close to Canon mirrorless when it comes to overheating. Sure it will overheat eventually, but probably only if you shoot in 4K 120. Also the S5 does not have unlimited recording. Only the S1H does. The S5 you have to stop and hit the record button again
No way dude, totally expected! Panasonic’s got at least twice the sensor size to process vs the Sony so it’s no shock the rolling shutter would be worse
Awesome video! I'm looking into the A7siii for its lowlight and autofocus specs. During the lowlight portion, I couldn't help but think that if I'm cranking the sony's ISO that high, that I might as well take advantage of the dual native ISO, and switch it to ISO 12,800 and just adjust my shutter/aperture accordingly to get an overall cleaner image.
@@lorenzopreiti It does have dual native iso. I can confirm this. It also has internal noise reduction (which, as of now, has no way of turning it off which is annoying)
A7S III is blowing burning off highlights sooner. Color is not subjective. White balance each camera and see how they look. How many stops of DR does the A7S III ?
Color is just subjective in my opinion. That’s just me though. These were white balanced? 15+ stops in SLOG3 and I think it’s like 12 or 13 usable stops. I could be wrong
Colour is subjective. I could try to remove the magenta, throw in a lil green to make it look arri-like, and people would go eeww But then in cinemas they go omg look so cinematic. The medium, context, story and everything else shapes our perception of how "true" colour is.
According to CineD scientific lab conducted tests using DSC Labs Xyla 21 stepchart and IMATEST A7s3 has 12.4 and S1h 12.7 both at 640ISO so basically the same, but a7s3 blows away S1h in rolling shutter. AF, 4k120 non cropped etc etc
I'm driving to a camera store right now. And watching/listening this video on my way. Made my mind for a7siii, will see what my thoughts will be once I finish watching it 😕
Haha that’s a dangerous move. You honestly can’t go wrong with either. I would honestly get the FX3 over the A7sIII if it were me especially if you will be needing XLR audio. If not the A7sIII would be great
Now I'm parked outside. I didn't know about s1h before and now you introduced another one lol. What's the main difference between FX3 and A7siii. I just checked basic specs, it's almost same as a7s3 except design and s-cinetone color profile added to fx3
Specs wise the A7sIII and FX3 are basically identical but the FX3 is just better setup for video shooting only. It can shoot photos, but if you are planning on shooting only video I’d go with the FX3. I have a video coming out soon talking about the FX3. Really the big one is audio. It includes the audio handle that’ll cost $600 dollars or something if you buy the A7sIII and needed it. Whereas it’s included with the FX3. The A7sIII has S Cinetone now via firmware. That’s just my opinion though. Since I already have the A7sIII though I wouldn’t sell it to get the FX3 because they are basically the same
Thanks for sharing all the info. I ended up getting A7s3 cuz FX3 was still not in stock and I wanted something immediately lol. I mainly do music videos, weddings and real estate videos. Great content btw. Keep up the great work.
Something wasn't probably shot right in the low light scenes with the A7S III. I find virtually no noise and a really sharp image in Slog3 with iso 12.800
The A7sIII still looked good at 12,800, but in comparison I preferred the S1H. Given though, the S1H native is 4,000 where the A7sIII 12,800 so you wouldn’t have to open your aperture as wide as I had to to match exposure. At 51,200 though, it’s a little bit different story
I love my S1/H cameras, but the A7SIII is just the best camera available now...I love the rolling shutter performances and the shadows on the A7SIII. Great video Dustin, thank you for sharing it!
A7siii best? Not sure. It’s the best for run and gun video for sure, if you like to shoot in slowmo + AF...but not for others project. S1H offer true C4K and 6k video (that is a great features for 4k final project) + choice between FF or APSC + on ebay you can find s1h cheaper than a7siii. For me, it’s better to stay on lumix system, now for b-cam, the s5 and s1 + atomos = 6k raw video...and knowing lumix, they will released the s1hII in 2021 with a minimum of 4k120 to be up to the competition + 6k60 to be above + improved AF...or in the meantime they will offer a big update.
Thanks for the comparisons. This is valuable information for anyone looking to buy 1 or the other. I personally lean towards the A7S III for the type of work I do. Different tools for different purposes as you said
Hi David, thank you very much for detailed and helpful comparison. In the video you a few times mentioned denoiser. Could I ask you which denoiser program or plugin are you using? Thank you
The fact that you can get an S5 for half the price of both these cameras and have the exact same image quality is just insane. What a time to be a filmmaker!
I’ve talked about it on one of the videos. Not exactly sure what to cover on it ha. Would be interesting to do a comparison between the S5 and S1H. Problem is, I’m not exactly sure where to get access to one
Oh the biggest benefits is they make things look more “filmic” as opposed to digital and they help with moire. I wanted to compare moire with the S1H and A7sIII but forgot. So I will do it in another video soon
Thanks for this. I think you sell yourself slightly short in terms of giving your opinion. I'd be interested to hear you expand upon your thoughts on when each camera is more helpful, who each would be better for, etc. As someone who perhaps films more frequently than many viewers, your thoughts on this would be appreciated. I think this video could have been 2-3 minutes longer with that in mind and still feel succinct. Thanks again for the comparison. The warping on the edges of the s1h ibis was eye opening for sure.
I actually have plans to make an entirely full video on the biggest differences between the 2 cameras. That video I think will answer a lot of answers to those questions you have 👍
The reason for the Sony not looking as good in low light is their atrocious built in noise reduction which can not be turned off unless outputting ProRes Raw, unlike the Panasonic, where V-Log defaults to no noise reduction, leaving a sharper, yet grainier image.
The Panasonic's is in fact better after using it and you're right about the DNR used on the A7sIII! I was so shocked to find their noise being unacceptable for me when using the A7sIII, after hearing a zillion people on the silly internet saying it's the low light king, blablabla. When btw using even ISO1250 on the A7sIII in slog3, the noise is AWFUL and the Panasonic's looked way cleaner/ better! But I found out. later is no one ever wants to hear anything wrong/ bad about the A7sIII. The silly internet is so damn biased and they only wanna hear/ exaggerate anything negative for Canon.
One thing that camera reviews never seem to talk about are the system requirements for editing, vfx and grading of 6k footage in different file formats. I mainly shoot 4k on a GH4 in V Log L on an Atomos Ninja V in 10 bit ProRes, as well as internal 8bit H264. About 18 months ago, I upgraded my 2013 Macbook Pro to a 2019 Mac Mini specced for editing duties with the i7 chip, 32Gb RAM and an external GPU (Vega 64 in a Sonnet housing). This set up is coping really well with my current cameras and footage in Final Cut Pro X and Davinci Resolve. What do you think are the minimum computer requirements for working with 6k footage from these cameras? Many thanks.
@@pathtooptimalhealth Thanks. I've already swapped to Resolve! I bought the speed editor when it was bundled with Resolve Studio. It also works nicely with Lumafusion's exporting now. The only real advantage of a BM Assist would be raw as you say, for those times I needed the dynamic range - but I'll wait and see how good the GH6 is first... given it has extended DR, that may be all I need. I'm currently thinking of the GH6 for obvious reasons: my Sigma art zooms with MB speedbooster, and Ninja V would pair nicely, and I'm loving the internal codec options and workflow should be pretty much the same.
Oh for sure the S1H easily beats the A7sIII. No problem. I didn’t have the same luts for each camera so I had to do that route and it was more fair to do it that way
I must thank you for putting chapters in the video. A lot of UA-camrs don’t put chapters on because they think this way people have to watch the whole video. That’s just bad.
Probably would be pretty similar to this one it just has 8k. There's some other stuff but yeah it's not much different. If I can get my hands on one I will
Bro, you already got so much better with eye movements! And the new studio space is super clean already. I’ve always preferred Panasonic’s color science, UI, and overall video package better than Sony’s. There’s something about Lumix that makes their images look traditionally cinematic. Whereas, Sony always appeared more “contemporary” (more UA-cam-ish/video-ish cinematic).. I hope that makes sense. A7sIII is a better hybrid camera. Great stills, amazing AF, Great video. S1H is a specialty camera that’s hybrid capable. Good stills. Shit AF. Pro-grade video. If someone is just looking for an amazing camera to upload content to UA-cam, then I’d say the A7sIII is better suited. Edit: this is due to its AF & great run and gun style. If you’re looking to branch your content/films out to larger platforms (S1H is Netflix approved) & looking to film commercial content, then S1H is the way to go. Edit: This is due to S1H typically needing a bit more precise & controlled environment. Hopefully this changes with future firmware updates.
Who says there’s even a script anymore 🤔😂 I was able to get a new teleprompter that hopefully the future will fix the eye movements haha. Basically agree with everything you said! Well put 👍
Awesome video and super informative! I shoot with an A7iii and I love the EOSHD color workflow, what do you think would be the best and easiest way to match my new A7siii colors to that? Or do you think I should just shoot both in S-Log and match it like that?
Thank you! I prefer to shoot both in SLOG and convert the colors via ACES, LUT, or to a REC709 color space and make tweaks from there. But there are plenty of methods like the one you mentioned
@@DustinArmstrongPro yes! eoshd is a scam! Just boost magenta and boom! Call it canon lol, I envy the amount of money that guy made, but props to him for being able to scam people with limited color knowledge before i could.
I got S1H and there is one thing I noticed. Is it me or there is an 1-2ms audio/video latency? I mean audio is slightly delayed when for example it's compared to lip sync on video. Do you have idea how to solve it?
For the first few comparison clips, the A7Siii’s shadow has a brighter exposure and he seems it has more details in the shadows. Was the clips shot at roughly the same time? Was the difference just different lighting or actual DR difference of the camera?
This is great! I just watched one of your other S1H videos and enjoy your style for UA-cam and composition of shots. Do you have a way that I can follow your commercial/freelance work?
It is, but honestly doesn’t mean much. Netflix has weird certifications when it comes to their content and there are cameras out there used in lots of Hollywood productions that aren’t Netflix approved. But still is a cool title👍
@@DustinArmstrongPro It was a little ironic sorry ;) Lots of cameras have good image quality for sure. Many UA-camrs love Sony for its undeniable qualities but also because Sony has aggressive marketing to them. And sometimes that lacks objectivity (not for you). However, I don't think that the most important thing in the production of a film is the broadcast on you tube. We see a lot of "videasts" making beautiful 4k landscape images with great music, but it's to wow friends and followers. And without great stories beautiful pictures are not worth much. The goal of a production for me is profitable broadcasting. And this goes through television or cinema broadcasting modes for the lucky ones. Netflix is not the benchmark in terms of qualitative choice of cameras, but it has specifications and that's how it is. But there are also plenty of international shows for the exchange and sale of TV programs, like MIPTV at Cannes, french riviera. For feature film cinema you need Arri or Red anyway ... that's my humble opinion.
Good comparison. Its hard to really read color space comparisons when we don't know what color temp settings you're using. It might be interesting comparison to balance for one light source and then the other. Also, you had a really bad lens flare on S1H during the Dynamic range test which will definitely fill in your black levels. EDIT: the flare was in both, but I barely noticed it on the A7, what lens were you using?
I was pretty much at 5600 the whole time with a few at 4200 or so and 3200 at night. The Sony had the G Master 16-35 and the S1H the Sigma 35. Possible the Sigma may flare a bit more, but not by much. Ideally would of liked to have a Panasonic lens but I didn’t have access to one
And this began the road to where I returned my S1H and switched to the Sony. The S1H contrast wasn't there, Dustin showed me that. Thanks Dustin, you saved me. The S1H 6k or the 26mp wasn't going to make up for that. The Sony stabilization works, the AF can provide creative control of focus, it's overheating is barely minor, the Sigma lens I pay for actually does autofocus on it --- where is the downside? Anamorphic, maybe next time. Color? Sony has made giant leaps, it's as good as Panny. The high iso noise can be easily fixed in post if you use raw external. The Atomos also provides waveforms and vectorscopes. And seeing the 120 fps, there's no going back.
Would be interesting to throw an S1 in the mix after the new 2.0 firmware update to see how it holds up against these two beasts. There’s not much separating it and the S1H except the AA filter since the update.
@@dickrichards566Yes I can see the difference, but honestly I've been throwing on a black mist 1/8 filter on and love the look. I figures as long as the image quality. is good, I can do what I want in post. We are blessed to have these tools.
omgosh, I love this new space. Looks so comfortable. Even though I don't have neither cameras, I throughly enjoyed it. Also I started my channel Untouchedfilms.
10:06 So true! It's why I keep flocking back to Canon cameras, to be honest. The noise just looks so much like film grain that I don't have to denoise the footage.
Great video, and all the best for your new studio. Your videos are very informative as usual 👏. S1H aces in photography S1H good at low light videography. 6k 10bit video works like charm. Good codecs, built like a tank I mean it really sony canons are no way match to it. Better thermal management. Yeah it weighs like a ton (compared to sona73 or EosR5) but in a good way in my opinion. Its goes well with sigma 24-70mm f2.8 lens.
Appreciate it🙏 just how different brands interpreting how the camera should see color. The Sony is technically more color accurate, but that doesn't mean it looks better. All about preference
Dustin, I'm in the process of picking a new camera. Currently comparing S1H / A7S3 /FX3. Could you tell me if you used the same lense types for your comparisons? Particularly the low light comparison?
The Sony was a G Master lens and the Panasonic was a Sigma lens. That wouldn't make a difference on the low light comparison though. The Sigma is almost identical in sharpness to the G Master and is amazing for the price
@@DustinArmstrongPro Thank you, sorry what I meant to ask is if they were the same aperture? since you have some sigmas 1.4 and G Master 2.8s on your list
@@alanthinks re watch the video. I explain what I did. I think the first example the aperture was different to match exposure at the 2nd native ISO. The second the aperture was the same.
@@DustinArmstrongPro got it! Thank you very much everything was very helpful. I'm looking to get a camera that can be used both for vogging as well as generating a pro level production pilot reality doc type of episode. Looking at S1H/FX3 ... Thank you
In the outdoor shots it looks like the S1H has better color separation. You can see more of the blues in the sky and red in the skin. Where by the Sony there is a lot more yellow added to everything it looks like
Wondering why the s1h shots, particularly on the wheat field, made the subjects face much darker (compared to a7siii) Looked like it wasn’t exposed well but going any brighter would have washed out the sky… so is that just dynamic range? Or is there another reason. Great video btw!
Could be dynamic range yes. Could be the difference of vlog and slog3 abs how they process their own gamma curves. Not hard to make either match each other with a curves adjustment
Hi I finnalkly bought the s1H ) but Dutin, listen just an advice. Its something you do with the audio. It has som eslight artifical sound to it. maybe your shocking it too much, using too much compreesor, ro somthing, and in my opinion, you remove to much bass. well, just an advice, that for all the great videos !
S1h is so big! I would only see folks who think they got a chance with netflix buying it. I almost went with the a7siii cuz I'm sure it'll make that list at some point. But couldn't resist 6k 30fps *For only 2kusd!*
With the upcoming firmware update it's gonna be a beast. It's a real shame that people don't seem to care about that camera. I'll probably scoop up another one as second hand prices go even lower
The Lumix S1 is £1499 in the UK, the A7S3 is £3,799. Go figure. And tbh the S1 is superior in every way apart from AF. The fact the S1 has a proper tilt screen and not a selfie screen is also priceless.
I agree with Chloe. Except the tilt screen. There's disadvantages to no selfie screen, but also disadvantages to just a flip selfie screen. Wish Panasonic would have done the flip selfie AND tilt screen like in the S1H on the S5. So useful and convenient. I'll be honest, I'm debating selling my A7sIII and going all in on Panasonic. Having really good AF again is nice, but there's just something about Panasonic. Plus you get so much more with Panasonic for the price.
Wow was very surprised by the s1h's low light performance (though makes sense as its a full frame, which i forgot). I think it looks better than the a7siii, which is crazy cause no one talks about it. But the autofocus and rolling shutter is where the sony shines for me. Autofocus is so important for gimbals especially when you're using F1.8 or lower.
I was too. Especially since that is what the Sony is known for. Yeah no one talks about it. I almost think I need to do a full video testing the lowlight of the two cameras. For sure the Sony beats the S1H in those areas
The A7S3 is pretty average in low light, with the exception of ISO 12800+, where the high gain circuitry kicks in. This is pretty well documented stuff at this point
To confirm, you did your test for the sony at 12800 with the same speed lense ? It's just that I've seen other comparison videos where the difference was not this drastic and I'm making a purchase decision soon and this left me a bit confused.
@@alanthinks No, he stopped down the lens so he could match exposure. And I think that's is a bit misleading, because you think the s1h looks better so you draw the conclution that the s1h is the better lowlight camera. But I think he handled the a7s3 wrong. Frist thing, I woudn't shoot slog during night, because slog sucks in the shadows (as you can see in the video). And at night, almost everything is shadow, exept the highlights you are protecting from blowing out. So I would use a diffrent Picture Profile at night. And the second thing that i think could be executed better in this comparison is that he should have respected how to expose for Slog. He shouldn't have stopped down so much in camera an rather brought the exposure down in post to the level of the s1h and we probably would have got a way cleaner image out of the a7s3. So I would say that this comparison is pretty flawed and not representive. So I'm not sure if it is there to trash the a7s3 or to mislead or to justify the s1h or if it is just a flawed test without intend? In conclusion i can say that I think both cameras are good and I aswell am thinking about which of these cameras i should get. But I don't think this video helped me with that decision.
Love mine too, can't wait for whatever their next camera is too. I just ordered an S5 as a B cam, so I'm in the pansonic ecosystem now. I don't use autofocus for video, but if they can fix the autofocus for photos, I will get the successor to the S1R and replace my canon for photos, I just need it to be reliable so I can use it at weddings.
@@tangibleplanetvisualmedia1138 100% if they made a camera with good autofocus, I’d probably sell my Sony. Love Sony, but I’ve come to love Panasonic more
I think it’s just Sony and Canon have more market share so more money to market and sell their cameras. Plus most influencers online etc, use either Sony or Canon and don’t really give Panasonic a chance. That’s why my channel exists😁
I agree about the market share mentioned and would add that a lot of youtubers are highly reliant on autofocus for the kind of work they do. Personally I don't use autofocus so I've always gravitated towards Panasonic because I've always preferred the image quality they deliver.
Available latitude on the S1H is actually much higher on the S1H due to its much better noise reduction (no mush, no smearing, no ghosting - but lots of texture and detail instead) and higher pixel count/downscaling. Around 2 stops more available dynamic range according to Slashcam.
All makes sense! Totally just unexpected since A7sIII is the “lowlight king” still advantages and disadvantages to both. Also will get your footage with a chart of S1H and A7sIII. I haven’t forgot
Good video but a bit confused. First you say that they are so similar its hard to decide, and then that they are so different that they cant even be compared.
@@DustinArmstrongPro I'm glad you did the comparison. I happen to love the Panasonic Image! However, technically there isn't even a "Neutral" Sony Picture Profile. There IS a "Neutral" Creative Style. It may seem like semantics, but Sony makes a clear distinction between PP and CS that might be worth maintaining. Thanks again for making the video.

Every UA-camr reviewing things that are in the same category..."Neither is better..." Perhaps the question should be....which camera would you use more often than the other?
At 11:02 when you switched to active on the a7SIII it looks like you deliberately shook the camera as the shot started out extremely smooth like every single other review I've seen but then it looks just like the footage with no stabilization. Also, doing low light comparisons in standard PP at f4-f5 is not a good representation of either camera's capability.
Definitely did not deliberately shake the camera. The S1H has better IBIS no question. Sony's IBIS has always been a weak point. It's better than previous models but still not up to pair with some other brands. Why is it not a good representation? Some quality lenses out there can go to f/4 and changing f stop isn't going to affect noise. I'm also confused why you think shooting in the standard profile is not a good representation of either camera's capability?
IBIS is definitely better. Someone thought I was deliberately making the Sony more shaky and yeah no it’s just a fact. I may have stumbled a bit more cause I remember stepping in a hole with the Sony, but it’s just better
Two kinds of white balance? I'm sure you know this, but white balance is measured on a scale called Kelvin. Typically from 2000-8000 Kelvin. I matched the white balance on both cameras using manual white balance so I'm not sure what you mean by 2 kinds of white balance.
@@DustinArmstrongPro ic it totally makes sense if I do manual . U could try auto white balance and set a function key to lock it b4 shooting. Sony now has a really useful auto white balance ( choose white balance-white) but I agree sometimes mixed lighting Sony still suck on giving correct color.
I own 2x S1H fron Panny, and I love them! but.... their autofocus is the worst...!! I own a PAN Fz1000, an FZ2500, G7 and GH4 an they are superb! in autofocus... S1H is more of a production camera packaged into a friendly shape, up to 6K 422 10bit 24fps, also it is NETFLIX approved. So I guess Im buying some sony gear for wedding on the weekend and sticking to s1H for corporate work.
8:55 there is a mistake. Obviously A7s III doesn't record in V-LOG and S1H not in SLOG3. This is what happens when you copy and paste alot of things

Need this lookin to upgrade to a Cine cam...n lookin at the S1H
Definitely recommend the S1H as a Cine cam. In the future video talking about their differences, this is a big difference with the S1H. More of a Cine camera
You should consider the S5 as well....Incredible value for that image, in a smaller form as well !
Hmmm interesting. I will have to see if I get the same results
They must make a crossover Camera with the 6k image,Stabilisation,Colors, of the s1h and the 4k 120p and focus from the a7siii.
The A7H🤔
That’d be interesting
and the lens options of Sony
Check out the Sony A1. It's freakishly expensive (about $6500), but it shoots 8K, its color rivals Canon cameras, and it still has the slow-motion and autofocus of the A7SIII.
Yeah it's a great camera
A7siii biggest weakness is their heavy handed noise reduction for higher isos. I much prefer the s1h's handling of noise. Just don't screw the image, give me all the noise and details too. Sony just smudges all the details with the noise. Horrible honestly. The only thing stopping me from getting the Panasonic is the af. Do you think its useable for example for a sitting interview?
I agree. Something about the Panasonic image that keeps me coming back. Yes I think so. Like 90% of my videos were made with Panasonic AF of me talking to camera
Congratulations, surely you are going to create an incredible space.
I sure hope so! Haha
No problem. I know been a tough year to make decisions on buying gear not even just because of pandemic’s haha
congrats, it will be a huge upgrade regardless
@@mirrorlessny Thanks, it is something to celebrate. If I can settle on one camera for stills and video it will also simplify my kit.
I was shocked by that rolling shutter test.
Pretty crazy!
same. pretty disgustingly bad from pana lol
@@JAK_EDITS. Sony's suffered rolling shutter problems for a long time. They've definitely come a long way though. Now Panasonic has work on that front
A7s iii doasn’t have dual native iso. It only switch The noise reduction.
@@lorenzopreiti It does have dual native iso. I can confirm this. It also has internal noise reduction (which, as of now, has no way of turning it off which is annoying)
@@saifalnaqbi2819 if you shoot raw externally, you can notice that it doesn’t have dual iso.
Really Helpful ! I personally lean towards the A7S III
It is a great camera 👍
A7S III is blowing burning off highlights sooner. Color is not subjective. White balance each camera and see how they look. How many stops of DR does the A7S III ?
Color is just subjective in my opinion. That’s just me though. These were white balanced? 15+ stops in SLOG3 and I think it’s like 12 or 13 usable stops. I could be wrong
Colour is subjective. I could try to remove the magenta, throw in a lil green to make it look arri-like, and people would go eeww
But then in cinemas they go omg look so cinematic.
@@ShehryarAhmed You'll be perfectly good with the A7sIII then. Thanks man! Appreciate the support
4:18 are these shots on a gimbal or handheld because the Panasonic seems much smoother in these clips
Handheld
I love your dogs, budd!!❤❤❤
They're much more grown up now than from this video haha
I love my S1/H cameras, but the A7SIII is just the best camera available now...I love the rolling shutter performances and the shadows on the A7SIII.
Great video Dustin, thank you for sharing it!
I’d say it’s the best depending on what your needs are. That autofocus is just so nice for so many scenarios. Thank you for the support🙏
@@DustinArmstrongPro especially those run and gun shots, loved the video man👏🏼
A7siii best?
TRUE, 7s3 is the best on the game so far apart from image quality for photos but who cares, can get another sony only for take photos..
Nice job bro... keep it up ❤️
Nice Dude! Yes please on the menu and body ect. comparisons. Also can't wait to see the finished studio 🤙🏿🤙🏿🤙🏿
I will for sure do it 👍 going to take awhile, but it’ll be sweet hopefully when it’s done!
Thanks for the comparisons. This is valuable information for anyone looking to buy 1 or the other. I personally lean towards the A7S III for the type of work I do. Different tools for different purposes as you said
Thank you for watching. Totally understand your reasoning to lean towards it especially if you’re a solo shooter
Great videos did as always, good luck with the renovation 👍
Hey thank you! Going to take awhile, but I think it'll be pretty sweet once it's done!
Hi David, thank you very much for detailed and helpful comparison. In the video you a few times mentioned denoiser. Could I ask you which denoiser program or plugin are you using? Thank you
I don't think I used one in the video but I use neat video
The fact that you can get an S5 for half the price of both these cameras and have the exact same image quality is just insane. What a time to be a filmmaker!
Close to the same yes. I haven’t tested the S5 but it doesn’t have a OLPF and the codecs aren’t as good as the S1H, but it’s a very similar camera
@@DustinArmstrongPro I'd love to see a video on OLPF.
I’ve talked about it on one of the videos. Not exactly sure what to cover on it ha. Would be interesting to do a comparison between the S5 and S1H. Problem is, I’m not exactly sure where to get access to one
@@DustinArmstrongPro I guess I just need to research those filters more. They seem useful, but I can't say I fully understand their value.
@3:02 You can certainly see which camera has better stabilization. Thank you for using ACES instead of LUTs in the DR comparision!
They're not on all of my videos. I need to add them to all of them. For me it's more just out of laziness that I don't add them lol
Great informative video thanks

What about IBIS and OSS together on the a7s3 - e.g. with the Zeiss 85mm 1.8
I like the way you think
8:49 what is this blue blotch?
what about the s5
I don't own it or have access to one. Maybe one day can make some content on the S5
I just got an S5 and it’s pretty magical
S5 has the exact same sensor and full v-log, it should produce the same image. I just ordered one as a b cam, it comes tomorrow!!!!
Brother please make a comparison video of Panasonic Lumix S1H Vs Sony alpha 1
Well put 👍
Hey Dustin. I have the S1H but i think i didn't match the bets lens... Which one you use for the video? Thanks buddy, very interesting!

@@DustinArmstrongPro thanks appreciate , and of course I will watch that video
8:54 I think is the other way a7s with slog 3 and s1h vlog
It's not. I'll double check though and make sure I didn't film it at 10,000 ISO or something though
@@DustinArmstrongPro I meant there is a mistake written cuz, a7s doesn't record in vlog and s1h doesn't record in slog 3
Oh lol thank you. You are right
I got S1H and there is one thing I noticed.
They were shot right after each other same exposure
This is great! I just watched one of your other S1H videos and enjoy your style for UA-cam and composition of shots. Do you have a way that I can follow your commercial/freelance work?
My Instagram is the best place
Yes, good test! But S1H is approved by Netflix ;)
Hahahahaha and you want to make a movie for netflix?
And seeing the 120 fps, there's no going back.
wow, didnt expected from panasonic so good video, I very very like it
Would be interesting to throw an S1 in the mix after the new 2.0 firmware update to see how it holds up against these two beasts. There’s not much separating it and the S1H except the AA filter since the update.

awesome video! Why does A7 looks yellowish compared to the more natural looking Panny boy?
Appreciate it🙏 just how different brands interpreting how the camera should see color. The Sony is technically more color accurate, but that doesn't mean it looks better. All about preference
Dustin, I'm in the process of picking a new camera. Currently comparing S1H / A7S3 /FX3. Could you tell me if you used the same lense types for your comparisons? Particularly the low light comparison?

Wondering why the s1h shots, particularly on the wheat field, made the subjects face much darker (compared to a7siii)
Looked like it wasn’t exposed well but going any brighter would have washed out the sky… so is that just dynamic range? Or is there another reason.
Great video btw!
Could be dynamic range yes. Could be the difference of vlog and slog3 abs how they process their own gamma curves. Not hard to make either match each other with a curves adjustment
Hi I finnalkly bought the s1H ) but Dutin, listen just an advice. Its something you do with the audio. It has som eslight artifical sound to it. maybe your shocking it too much, using too much compreesor, ro somthing, and in my opinion, you remove to much bass. well, just an advice, that for all the great videos !

Nice new space man, congrats!

Panasonic S1 is the best in this class in value/price range.
Dustin Armstrong Great comparison review btw 😊
Appreciate it🙏 thank you for watching and commenting
Both are amazing.
Agreed!
which is better in ProRes RAW
Good question. Once I have a atomos I could test it ha
@@DustinArmstrongPro looking forward to hearing your opinion once you get one
Great video. I love my S1H i feel like i made the right choice
Either are great options. I like them both for different reasons.
Love Sony, but I’ve come to love Panasonic more
Very few people talk about this powerful camera, Panasonic s1h. Why is it so?
Natural or Neutral? Is Neutral even an option using PP on Sony?
I can’t remember. I know it’s natural on the S1H. Might be neutral on the Sony
I probably should of clarified that it’s standard PP in the neutral creative style like you said
jesus the stabilization on the s1h is in another league
Right? Big difference!
😵 yea it was obvious, with illuminated buttons/top screen/weather resistance & articulating+flipUpDown screen S1H is tempting,,,,,with exception of being bulky & having constrast AF 😣
You can use cleaner iso settings in 12800 for a7siii.. But i think you dont use it
Depends which PP you're using
@@DustinArmstrongPro yes you use it to compare low light.. but I don’t think that you use it in 12800.. 😁 because I use 12800 almost all the time for slow motion and it is clean.. or it’s something wrong when you expose slog files
@@meltysundae4540 I'm fairly certain I was using it.
didn't you say that using HLg is better for low light and less noise than in v log ?
It is, but shooting in the standard profile is better than HLG. This was just for general comparison of V-LOG and S-LOG in low light
@@DustinArmstrongPro yes but what gives you the best DR in low light and less noise ?
GUTTEN! its good to be back here
It’s a good place to be 😁
Very informative 👏 👌 but mannnn first u got me hooked on to the anamorphic for my bmpcc 4k and right when i was researching to compare these two you're at it again LOL imma get in trouble with my wife watching your videos haah all jokes aside good job though bro for real
I'm really good at spending other peoples money hahaha. Thank you for the support!
@@DustinArmstrongPro keep doing it bro your video improves better and better
Thank you! I will don’t worry
although many think that science and empiricism are inextricably linked, this is not neccessarily true; a gut feeling based upon science but not subservient to is the difference - you are not gerald undone and thank fuck - lots of great footage to examine and a focus on the feeling of a cam seems to be your vibe and you should attack this niche - anyway subbed, and cheers for the great vid
Appreciate the sub and feedback. Geralds videos are very informative, but definitely trying to approach my videos differently.
Every UA-camr reviewing things that are in the same category..."Neither is better..."
Perhaps the question should be....which camera would you use more often than the other?
Which camera has the features you need/want the most? Lots of ways to ask the question
Good review I have both cams too.
Thank you! Hope you enjoy them as much as me!
@@DustinArmstrongPro loving them! Your S1h and A7siii content has been happily devoured and helpful:) stay gold!
I appreciate the support 🙏 more content to come 😁
So which camera you prefer more ?
Depends. I prefer the S1Hs look out of camera, but I prefer the A7sIIIs AF
I'm looking to buy my first 'serious' camera and im so torn between these two
Tough decision
Am i tripping or is the pana ibis alot better?
Oh it’s 100% better. That’s been a weakness on Sony cameras though for awhile
S1H output especially color and IBIS are much better.. Sony IBIS is almost useless when walking.
IBIS is definitely better. Someone thought I was deliberately making the Sony more shaky and yeah no it’s just a fact. I may have stumbled a bit more cause I remember stepping in a hole with the Sony, but it’s just better
bro im a s3 user I think u used wrong white balance . there 2 kind white balance normal and white.
So you meant 2 settings for adjusting white balance?
Sony has gotten better, but Panasonic just mixes color temps better I have found
So jealous of the concept of basements.. they never heard of them in Straya..
They’re pretty sweet!
My cinema camera Arri Alexa doesn't have autofocus and doesn't need it.
Most important thing S1H Netflix aproved that's why I can manage.
I have bought canon c70, but if panasonic comes with a ''SH1'' camera with a usable autofocus i will sell my c70.
What about the SH1T? Would you buy that? 🤣
