It's a tragedy that if you ask someone on the streets who Kimberly Leach is, they wouldn't know, but they know Bundy and his romanticized image. The last year and a half it's been a pure Ted-a-Thon, with documentaries and movies and damn comic books. People continue to be fascinated by a man so debased he held a grudge and inner hatred for the 12 year old he murdered because she 'talked back' to him. I hope that every single one of those girls managed to say something to him that hurt. Hurt him where it hurt him the most, in his fragile, pathetic imitation of manhood. Our culture made him a modern Jesse James or Billy the Kid.

The one and only problem with this movie is that it was so condensed into 100 minutes.
In fact, I would have preferred seeing this as a movie series. 1 season to really put all of it on the table.
So much to unpack. Not just the conversation, but the emotional roller coaster Bill Hagmaier goes through in the 7-8 years he interviews Ted.
This deserved at LEAST an extra hour of film. Would have loved to have seen it as a series.

@@TheNeverists666 Exactly. I'm glad I didn't have to watch actors and actresses act out r*pe scenes in *No Man Of God.* I can't handle that sh-t in movies; it's a trigger, and it's really unnecessary. I think both this film (in which the dialogue was taken directly from the interview tapes), and the Zac Efron film did a really good job of portraying both sides of Ted Bundy. I haven't seen the one with Mark Harmon yet; not sure if I should (because of possible triggers being shown), but the one from 2002 entitled *Ted Bundy* (played by Michael Reilley Burke) was just gratuitous and repetitive, showing the violence and then there was a r*pe scene; I turned it off and didn't even finish watching it.

@@EmunahFL I personally hate the Zac Efron film for the same reason I refuse to watch the TV series Dahmer, it was exploitative and not true to the facts of the case, whoever wrote the Zach Efron film didn't seem to understand Bundy, they tried to paint him as having an attachment to his girlfriend which....he absolutely did not, I agree with everything you're saying though.

that zac effron flick was such fucking schlock, compare that to the two bundy flicks from decades ago-one was a low budget tv aired flick, and even that was way better-like if you're going to glamorize the killer at least show some of the murders, get gritty with it. either go all the way and dramatize the murders, or do something interesting with it, like psychological suspense as seems the direction of this one. don't get me started on the ending, "hacksaw", what fucking rubbish, it's clear they were marketing the flick to emotionally immature women. like hey I like a good exploitation flick, if I could have it my way every serial killer from the 1800s to now would have their own movie serials, but there's nothing more that I hate than an exploitation film which tries to pretend it isn't an exploitation film. this one seems to be going in the opposite direction though and that's welcome, kinda similar to mindhunter.

    • @SarahValsheim
      @SarahValsheim 3 роки тому +7

first half of the movie, i thought that too, and it pissed me off. then i realized that i'm looking at it from the wrong perspective.
if you imagine for a second , from the perspective of the girlfriend (or family membember or friend) it all makes sense for the movie to make him look likeable. Until the very end, WITH the other characters, there is disbelief and sympathy. just when he tells her (writes) what he actually did, is when she accepted the truth.
The movie is about the painful path of realizing the fact that the person you knew was all a lie/facade.
If you experienced something like this (not necessarily a murderer, "just" a regular narcissist) this movie becomes very familiar and true to reality.
I also hated the fact how "likeable" the movie Ted was. But also, that is the reality with these personality (disorder) types. They ARE likeable and they CAN completely fool you. I think the movie did a good job in that regard. And also finally showed the perspective of the people who had to live with these type of people: that is also not a really common story to tell.

Schizophrenia is a mental disorder[13] characterized by continuous or relapsing episodes of psychosis.[5] Major symptoms include hallucinations (typically hearing voices), delusions, paranoia, and disorganized thinking.[7] Other symptoms include social withdrawal, decreased emotional expression, and apathy.[5] Symptoms typically come on gradually, begin in young adulthood, and in many cases never resolve.[3][7] There is no objective diagnostic test; the diagnosis is used to describe observed behavior that may stem from numerous different causes. Besides observed behavior, doctors will also take a history that includes the person's reported experiences, and reports of others familiar with the person, when making a diagnosis.[7] To diagnose someone with schizophrenia, doctors are supposed to confirm that symptoms and functional impairment are present for six months (DSM-5) or one month (ICD-11).[7][11] Many people with schizophrenia have other mental disorders, especially substance use disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.[7]
About 0.3% to 0.7% of people are diagnosed with schizophrenia during their lifetime.[14] In 2017, there were an estimated 1.1 million new cases and in 2019 a total of 20 million cases globally.[2][15] Males are more often affected and on average have an earlier onset,[2] although some large reviews have not found gender differences in the prevalence of the disorder.[needs update][16][17] The likely causes of schizophrenia include genetic and environmental factors.[5] Genetic factors include a variety of common and rare genetic variants.[18] Possible environmental factors include being raised in a city, cannabis use during adolescence, infections, the ages of a person's mother or father, and poor nutrition during pregnancy.[5][19]
About half of those diagnosed with schizophrenia will have a significant improvement over the long term with no further relapses, and a small proportion of these will recover completely.[7][20] The other half will have a lifelong impairment.[21] In some cases people may be repeatedly admitted to hospitals.[20] Social problems such as long-term unemployment, poverty, homelessness, exploitation, and victimization are commonly correlated with schizophrenia.[22][23] Compared to the general population, people with schizophrenia have a higher suicide rate (about 5% overall) and more physical health problems,[24][25] leading to an average decrease in life expectancy by 20 years.[10] In 2015, an estimated 17,000 deaths were linked to schizophrenia.[12]
The mainstay of treatment is antipsychotic medication, along with counseling, job training, and social rehabilitation.[5] Up to a third of people do not respond to initial antipsychotics, in which case the atypical antipsychotic clozapine may be used.[26] In a network comparative meta-analysis of 15 antipsychotic drugs, clozapine was significantly more effective than all other drugs, although clozapine's heavily multimodal action may cause more side effects.[27] In situations where doctors judge that there is a risk of harm to self or others, they may impose short involuntary hospitalization.[28] Long-term hospitalization is used on a small number of people with severe schizophrenia.[29] In some countries where supportive services are limited or unavailable, long-term hospital stays are more common.[30]

Hey, I really like your comment, particularly you highlighting the potential of any of us becoming like Ted. I feel I often see people dub criminals as "monsters" or "evil", without any apparent attempt at empathy or understanding. I think this may happen because it's much easier to disregard things we don't understand than it is to deepen our understanding. Or because we seem to enjoy the self-righteous moral pedestal we can place ourselves on when we look down on others, putting our own susceptibility out of mind. Or because we would be scared to admit how alike a killer and ourselves may be at core, as I think you suggest.
However, seeing that behaviour does frustrate me, as I feel that without empathy and understanding, we disregard the potential for gaining further insight into who we are as human beings. And we disallow any recourse for those who have lost their way. I think that empathy and understanding are necessary for resolving cycles of trauma and helping ourselves and humanity grow.
So I was just wondering whether you had any thoughts around that: whether you see others practicing a little or a lot of empathy? And your feelings about that. And whether you think empathy and understanding have a role to play in humanity's growth.
      Thank you,
      R

I can't believe I haven't seen this till now. Every other cinematic version has completely NOT captured Ted as well as these clips appear to have done..... the '90s film, Bundy. Did a reasonable job compared to the others, as a cinema story - but this actor is for sure - LIGHT YEARS ahead of the rest in terms of his Ted-ness........😉

Creepy trailer , people always want to know why these horrible crimes have been committed, bet the investigators hate been so close to the perpetrators, only good that can come out of it is if they see patterns in behaviour or personality, they might be able to stop them, and prevent more innocent victims being killed .

I’m very much sick of serial killer stories when making stories about the victims would not only be better, it would be cathartic. We get it. Serial killers are crazy. Talk about something else. Talk about those whose memories deserve to be kept alive, not those who took them away.

The victims of serial killers were always normal people with normal lives, so even though they were victims, nobody is going to care about a movie about victims of serial killings.
Do we get to watch them in school, at work or shopping at the mall before they get killed?
Serial killers are infinitely more interesting, because of the twisted way they think and perceive this world.

    • @Whocaresanymore970

The victims aren't interesting. Stop trying to stroke your fevered ego by pretending to be some morally superior being, nobody is going to watch a 2 hour movie about one of Bundy's victims, nothing interesting would happen up until the point where Bundy kills them.

    • @tinaloye2014

@@remc0s sounds like someone has no imagination and can’t script a movie from the POV of a victim in contact with a serial killer. It’s not even about moral high ground, it’s fucking boring. They are crazy and egotistical. Other than that, there is nothing new. Watching another episode interview with someone’s entire personality is murder is not intriguing. Ppl don’t even watch these shows because of the killer, they watch it because of what happened to the victims.

    • @tinaloye2014

@@Whocaresanymore970 yeah cause watching another interview where nothing new is said about another serial killer is the height of high class entertainment 🍷 serial killers aren’t diverse. They all do the same damn thing. Motive is different but it’s the same conclusion. Find those who escaped. Find those who survived. Find the families of those who died. Many series have been based on missing people. It’s not a new concept. Y’all just wanna roll around in basic.

Yes, he was. Though he had a strong opinion on not wanting people to think he was insane/crazy to the point he would rather them say he was sane than to say he was insane in order to save his life. Not that it would have saved his life, but that seemed to be his feelings. But he definitely didn't want to die. Just like none of the many people he killed didn't want to die either, but weren't given a choice or any time to get closure unlike him.
