I had a bungalow right NEXT to Walter Pidgeon in the summer of 1965. He was performing at the Falmouth playhouse (on Cape Cod) in "The Happiest Millionaire." I was on my honeymoon and he and his friends had been rather noisy after the play (as if we would have noticed.) The following morning he, very graciously, had a fruit basket with a bottle of champagne sent to us as an apology for the noise. I noticed he was relaxing in our mutual grassy back yard so I approached him to thank him. It was like a dream come true for I had been a fan of his (and Miss Garson) for years. He offered, and we accepted, two tickets to the play that night. During the play he was reciting the guest list for a grand party they were planning then, suddenly said, "Oh, and don't forget to invite Jim and Anne Marie Tuberosa who just came back from their honeymoon. We were so stunned my (naive) wife said, "Is there ANOTHER Jim Tuberosa here??) Needless to say this is among my most cherished memories and I'll always remember how a legendary actor like Walter Pidgeon took such special care to give us THAT memory.....God Bless him and keep him.....
RetroGuy76 .......... I DOUBLE AGREE !! Retroguy76........born in the 1950’s and sorry I missed all that too....God Bless we can see all the old movies and these wonderful interviews
It gives me chills/goosebumps just seeing and listening to Greer Walter and Fred. SO much talent in that little circle of people. Walter/Greer movies will always stand the test of time. Their pairing in movies was on par with William Powell and Myrna Loy who made 11 or 12 movies together. What a treat this is. Many thanks for upload.
I have just accidently caught this clip and being in my 80's I was swept up with nostalgia. Stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood had a magic about them that is 'lost' today. Why is that ?
I absolutely adore these two (and Fred and Gene too!) It's so lovely to think that Greer and Walter were actually proper friends who really did see each other in real life and weren't just "Hollywood friends".
+classic elegance Greer Walter their spouses and families even vacationed together a couple of times. Back in the day many Hollywood stars were lifelong neighbours and friends. Examples; Lucille Ball/GaryMorton were friends forever with the James Stewart's Henry Fonda's Bob Hope's. Jack Benny lived next door to Lucy and would pop in and out of the house like part of the family.
Yes, I remember reading in a Greer Garson biography that Greer and Walter sometimes spent Christmas together with their families. It's such a lovely thought.
Sure wish I could find this entire Mike Douglas show. It is such a treasure! I remember seeing it when it first aired. That's class all the way up and down the line.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this!! You have made my entire day! I second thekidsmommy1, we would love it if you have any more clips with Greer of you could please upload them. We are both huge fans! =)
+nondescript Actually that is her personality. She was very outgoing. I doubt she was drinking before this and was definitely not known as a excessive drinker. Greer was however one of the biggest stars in Hollywood in the 1940's and was used to being treated as royalty. By all accounts; she was very well liked. No stories suggest otherwise.
From left to right: Mike Douglas, Mervyn LeRoy (the white-haired gentleman who joins the discussion later in the video), Greer Garson, Walter Pidgeon, Fred Astaire, and Gene Kelly. Mike Douglas was a singer who later became a talk-show host a la Dinah Shore, Mervyn LeRoy was a director and producer of films, Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon acted together in many films. Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly were multi-talented film stars. Gene Kelly directed films as well.
+William E You can watch some of their performances on UA-cam, they were all very talented people--with the possible exception of Mike Douglas who didn't seem too bright to me--but he had a really nice singing voice when he was with the Kay Kyser orchestra.

jim Tuberosa m Randam Harvest.Film
What a memory! I think some of those actors had more class; they had manners.
Wonderful story! Thank you for sharing it with us. He was one of my favorite actors.
Some serious Hollywood royalty going on right there! Greer still looked incredibly beautiful.
I think Miss Garson is perfectly charming here. A chatterbox certainly but she engages well with the interviewer and the other subjects.
So good to see, Greer is such a dame in the best and truest sense of the word!

me too
Greer Garson's voice is most distinguishable, what a perfect dinner guest.

We've grown more cynical and think that equals wisdom....
The magic is gone. Which is why I prefer old movies.
Maybe partially because in those days the studios built up and groomed their stars, and made sure that they got the right kind of publicity.
Greer Garson was 72 in this clip and Walter Pidgeon 79.
Magnificent video of four of the greatest stars of the Golden era of Hollywood and of course Mike Douglas. Its pure platinum. ♥️
What a fabulous little clip...they truly all are Legends😃💛

Walter Pigeon and Louis B. Mayer raised in that little Canadian east coast city Saint John in the Maritime Canadian province of New Brunswick
Greer is wrong, they made 8 and a half movies together, the half being The Youngest Profession.
i didn't realize Greer Garson is crazy.
Greer Garson had had a few too many by the time they came to this part of the party I fear :-)
***** she was borderline annoying

+nondescript You're wrong about Greer. Tarn Sand has the correct comment.
@@earlady66 No Greer was not a drinker...milk yes but booze no.
Marilyn Ward You are telling
me that Greer did not drink? Really?
ok the rose has to go
