@lazy freak askeladd having the same death scene as thors, raising him for much longer than thors ever did, maybe not a full father figure but askeladd was someone thorfinn had emotions towards
I love how Askeladd says “you did well” to Canute because Canute killed him while he was distracted. Which ties back to the lesson Askeladd’s been trying to teach Thorifinn
@@blackmullet6237 Its important that Canute attacks Askeladd in that exact moment of distraction and while he was rolling with Floki. I think Askeladds "you did well" was him appreciating that Canute was able to read the opening he had created for him and capitalize on it as he had planned without directly communicating it to him. It was actually quite a gamble to hope Canute would be able to assess the situation correctly and make Askeladds sacrifice worthwhile. I really like the last scenes of the episode. The blade dropping, memories replaying again, some new characters getting a trailer. I'm excited for the next season
@lazy freak Because he is an amazing character and also one of the best written characters ever. He is a man of his time. Self aware, with a clear goal that he pursued for his entire life. Willing to do anything to achieve it, but also willing to die for that cause because he believes that the man he chose to serve is a good person and will become a better ruler than he could ever be. He never did anything that was unacceptable or unthinkable for the time period he lived in, so you can't judge him using modern standards. He did what was necessary and he used the tactics and methods available to him at the time. And also the Vikings were cruel even by the standards of their time period. If he acted differently than the accepted norm of the people he lived with, then he wouldn't achieve anything or would have died a lot sooner without achieving his goal. As he himself said in episode 22, " I'm just a Viking." You don't have to agree with everything a character does to admire him. And that's true even in real life. You don't agree with everything everyone around you does. But that doesn't stop you from liking and befriending people right?
@lazy freak because a character being good doesn't mean its a good character. Askelad is a deep character, gray in a lot of aspects, deeply intelligent and cunning. He goes from being an antagonist, to basically being the main character of this arc. Also, he is the responsible for the character growth of both Thorfin and Canute, by giving them drive. Thorfin goes from happy go lucky child, to vengeful angsty teenager to someone who searches for something meaningful in life, and Canute goes from a shy and indecisive kid to a ruthless leader. In the end, Askelad is the driving force of this series, until his end.
@lazy freak yea cuz thorfinn killed innocent people too for askeladds sake so he falls in the same boat but yea this shows fucjin great shit made me tear up
6:16 _"Free as a bird, baby, let's go! Slave no more!"_ Imagine hating this crew for half a season, and then crying rivers when Askeladd and Bjorn kick the bucket. Season 2 is a drastic shift from Season 1 but it is no less extraordinary, perhaps even more so. It's up to you whether you want to cave and read the rather excellent manga. I know I did, but S2 is just around the corner (in relative terms) so you don't have to wait _too_ much longer if you want to go in with an unadulterated experience!
The moment you realize, in episode one the scene where Thors drops his sword underwater and swims the way, has the same symbolic meaning as Thorfinn's dagger.
Rip Askeladd he chose to save both Wales and Canute by sacrificing his life. Askeladd was easily the best character in season 1 and so well developed. Definitely one of the best characters out there among a lot of anime’s imo.

The first manga series that I've fully collected physically up to the latest book, and these are large hardcovers, so it's definitely worth reading it like that
What's so interesting about this is that Esksladd was put on this heroic journey to save his people by seeing Thor's sacrifice. It challenged him to aim at something higher. He's of course not pure, but he likely learned more from Thor than Thorson did.

the ending scene where torfinn tries to reach askeladd and loses his dagger is symbolic and shows that he cared about him without realizing it, he was like a second father to torfinn :/ lost 2 dads now
As one of the people that recommended Vinland Saga to you and considers it the goat of manga / seinen anime I loved all your reaction and Im glad that you have liked it as much as you did
Askelad is one of the best antagonists ever. Thank you again for your reactions ❤️. Since the prologue ended I've been waiting for this anime to continue for several years trying to avoid manga. And finally season 2! The only thing that bothers me is how long we'll have to wait for season 3. I advise you to watch Run with the wind, wholesome underrated anime to cheer up after the finale of the Saga.
I love when Askeelad swings his sword to get the blood of his sword. He did it once for Bjorn and for the King. I like to think he did it for Bjorn because he didn’t want to kill Bjorn, so he did it out of disgust. And for the King, he hated the king, so he probably did it because he didn’t want the blood of a man like that on his sword.
I couldn't wait for 2nd season in 2019 and im glad i didnt wait, cuz it feels that manga was even better XD and i assure that next stuff wont disappoint at all!

I’ve read the manga quite a while ago and i’ve been stockpiling chapters now. I legit forgot why i gave it such a high score on anilist lol. Watching back the first season now, it is a really beautiful story
here are some animes i recommend: 'Link click','erased' and 'great pretender' 'Link click' is one of my favourite and btw its a chinese anime which is also known as donghua
Here's another anime recommendation it's called Quan zhi GAO shou or the english name: The King's Avatar, it's about a guy who is the best at an game but he has to retire because the people he works for takes his account card and now he goes to an internet cafe in disguise of another guy and climbs his way back to the top with his new avatar. I fell in love as soon as I saw episode 1 and i binged the whole thing, you dont have to react to it but I definitely recommend you check it out!
Nice reaction. If this is in your alley then I think you will love the other behemoth of seinen, Berserk, the classic of medieval fantasy that inspired Dark Souls Elden Ring etc. Also both Berserk and Chainsaw Man were inspired by the same source, Devilman. Berserk has two decent anime adaptations, the 1997 anime (the choice to go), and this brand new Memorial Edition (which is an improved and serialized version of the movie trilogy, but better for a second watch).
It's VERY underrated indeed Teddy! season 1 came out in the same year as Demon Slayer season 1 and people of course went to Demon Slayer because of the HYPE fights and nobody cared about this PEAK FICTION that much...
@@teddymecheto s2 is vastly different from s1( but just as good as s1). This series got recognition after it aired, so s2 might be more popular but highly doubt it. The reason this is getting s2 is because the director is huge fan of the manga, or else we wouldn't be getting s2 because of less profit as it isn't meant for younger audience.
Remember when Askeladd truly swore loyalty to Canute he gave him his sword and told him to kill him. In the end that is what Canute did. It's also neat how throughout the series Askeladd has suddenly struck various men, like the messenger that told him of Thorkell taking Canute hostage, all building up to him beheading Sweyn. In the end Askeladd is the most fantastical character in Vinland Saga, most of the others are actual real historical figures like Leif, Canute, Sweyn, Thorkell or Thorfinn.
Teddy, Vinland Saga is one of the greatest manga I have ever read! If you decide to continue the story before s2, you will not regret it. One of the best stories EVER.
Ashkeladd made me cry this fker, I was not specially interested by him at beginning and then He seduced me by his irreplacable love for his mother's Country : Wales. Even welsh in the anime respect his family (Artorius descendants). I think he is the greatest character of Vinland Saga already (we are just in prologue but for me it's him). The most sad things is Ashkeladd has no child just like Bjorn that mean their lineage ended :(
I understand the temptation, and I myself read the manga for the same reason, but I implore you to wait for the next season. It's not too far, and I cannot stress enough that it'll be worth waiting to see in action. Past that season 2, with both story content and the time it'll take for season 3 to be produced in mind, I'd say you're free to read from there, but the next arc is something I believe will be well worth waiting only 6 months for. (I know 6 months is a long time but as far as anime waiting times go, its pretty tame)
I'd usually agree but for some reason I think mappa could possibly disappoint on what WIT did in season 1. Mappa has way to many OP anime on their roster rn. Aot, Jujutsu kaisen, vinland saga, chainsaw man and hells paradise. Those anime alone can all be on someone's top 10. That's insane. Hopefully they can pull through with vinland saga though. I feel like it's the most underrated of them all. Yet the best story in my opinion. So I'd recommend just reading the Manga already.
86 became my favorite anime of last year. You could give it a chance! Made in Abyss is one of my favorite anime of all time, with season 2 broadcasting, it's bound to get a lot of views!
Askeladd was able to overcome the king because, in a different way from Thors, he became a true warrior; when Sweyne thought Askeladd had no leverage left, he invested his own life for the chance of a better future for Earth. In the end, he saved both his homeland from war, and his king, whom he believed would bring about the positive change his mother dreamed of. He was a mentor and an example for Canute, and a stand in parental figure for Thorfin. One of my favorite characters of all time.
Yeah Teddy it is underrated for sure!!! This finale was so well done....WIT studios is amazing!!!! Another anime you could check out is The Great Pretender also by WIT Studios, you could also check Psycho Pass....and on the romantic side....you should check out Fruits Basket 2019 the newer version...it is sooo good
This is the first and only anime that made me want to get the manga for it, so I can continue the story. Just like you said that you're tempted to do so as well. That shit speaks fucking volumes. This story and characters are so well written it's insane and I do agree that it hasn't gotten the recognition it deserves. Sure a lot of people know about it, but I think it's worth the amount of like Demon Slayer hypeness or even more. I recently read to where the anime ends in the manga and I've read a little bit extra for what's to come. I have the next book beyond the anime and I'm incredibly excited to dive into it. (Also, can't WAIT for season 2. This is going to be the first time watching an anime where I've read at least some of the things that it'll be covering when it airs, which is cool.
If you haven't picked up the manga, look on the bright side: at least the anime is picking up next year, as opposed to all the people who jumped aboard the anime in 2020. Glad you liked it so much, it was fun reliving the series along with you. If you haven't picked up the manga yet but decide that you want to, the story continues from here in Volume 4 of the hardcover manga collection. It definitely takes a shift from where it's been so far as it goes on.
Everyone says that but I feel like the prologue is as good (or really close) as what comes next. It's not just a prologue. IMO what's coming next is really really good but I don't think it's like way way way above the first Season like people are putting it.
@@LixienXIII yeah the first season was no less than a masterpiece, it is hard to top it but farmland arc has the potential to do it. Won't be better than the first season but it can be just as good!
I would recommend that you read the Manga not just for the story but the Art....it's art is tooo great and it has its own charisma Chapter 54 is where this ends

Now, Thorfin must fight for know who He is.... after..... He lost his sole purpose... and his second Father...
I’ve read the manga quite a while ago and i’ve been stockpiling chapters now. I legit forgot why i gave it such a high score on anilist lol. Watching back the first season now, it is a really beautiful story
waiting for your season 2 reaction, teddy!
Yayyy…..was waiting for this episode
This really feels like beginning of a SAGA
Can't wait for Season 2 this winter
here are some animes i recommend: 'Link click','erased' and 'great pretender'
'Link click' is one of my favourite and btw its a chinese anime which is also known as donghua
Perfect timing !
Damn ninjas cutting onions, 😭😭 Every fckn time
King Arthur returned... if only for a few minutes.
It's VERY underrated indeed Teddy! season 1 came out in the same year as Demon Slayer season 1 and people of course went to Demon Slayer because of the HYPE fights and nobody cared about this PEAK FICTION that much...
😭 hopefully with s2 it's gonna be different and people watch it!
@@teddymecheto plus Are you gonna react to s2 trailer or you try to go blind into it next year?
@@teddymecheto s2 is vastly different from s1( but just as good as s1). This series got recognition after it aired, so s2 might be more popular but highly doubt it. The reason this is getting s2 is because the director is huge fan of the manga, or else we wouldn't be getting s2 because of less profit as it isn't meant for younger audience.
Can you imagine that the season you just watched through all the fights, tactics, story, emotion… it’s still only the prologue can’t wait for season 2
The most sad things is Ashkeladd has no child just like Bjorn that mean their lineage ended :(
I can't wait for season 2!
Castlevania is right up your ally, plot, story, animation, and characters. It got everything. Check it out.
Masterpiece
NEXT REACTION: Saga of Tanya the Evil
No way.
I like this
No
i like that anime but nope. pretty sure she wont like it bro. something like Toilet Hanako works ig idk man.
@@megugu2155 and why not?
I think you'd really enjoy Dr. Stone!
"stand straight, this part is important"
Lol so many emotion, we get it.
Top 5 Anime Episode of all time
泣いてくれてうれいしい同じように見てた
great anime. great reaction. I'm glad you picked this one up.
Season 2 is coming in january next year.
If you think you can wait for 5 months it might be worth it
at least askeladd is with bjorn now😔
"End of the Prologue"
Just imagine what the rest of the story is gonna be like if this is just the PROLOGUE!!!
I should mention that Askeladd is wearing a robe somewhat like a Roman.
Really happy that you enjoyed this anime the way most of us have 🤘🏻
I recommend watching summertime rendering next, it’s still ongoing
after eps 24 i go read the manga, and ohhh boy i love it, next arc is my favourite
I would recommend that you read the Manga not just for the story but the Art....it's art is tooo great and it has its own charisma
Chapter 54 is where this ends
Now the real vinland saga started
Vinland saga's manga is something else , you'll enjoy it's beautiful
Idk why but I feel so much more emotional watching anime than watching TV shows. It's weird but I'm here for it.
If you're looking for historical drama, Tale of the Heike is a beautiful anime.
There is a trailer for the 2nd season
