@@daikimochiron thorfinn has no will to live so he wanders around and gets in trouble and becomes a slave, he meets the red hair dude from the end scene who helps him out his depression and teaches him not to kill (like batman lol) and they decide to work hard to become independent and go off to vinland instead of escaping even tho they could fuck up the guards. The owner of the farm rebels against canute who is now king of denmark and norway as well after killing his brother and is a giga chad now. The soldiers come and theres a big battle but thorfinn comes to see canute to stop it. To prove hes thorfinn he tanks 1000 punches from the strongest guard. He then talks to canute and canute agrees to leave the farm alone (its also shown he carried the kings seal but didnt show it to the guard to prove to himself his worldview shift wasnt for nothing). Thats the end of season 2 season 3 has more action so i didnt read it.
The end to season 1 felt like the end to a long movie, it was fantastic.

Thorfinn is as complex as Askeladd, if not more. He knew he wanted to kill Askeladd, but you can tell that he had slowly lost that conviction. Whenever we see him raging about this fantasy of vengeance, he's actually angry at himself, specially when his facade begins to fall apart and he comes to the realization, that maybe he doesn't want Askeladd to die, not because he cares for him, but because he's a mentor, and in the end, as fellow warriors, he trusted him. He tells others he wants revenge, when in fact, he's trying to keep himself from faltering.
The moment that was defining to me, is when Askeladd tells his story to Thorfinn and Canute. We finally know that he had already seen through Thorfinn's facade, by telling him how to kill someone you hate, how it took 2 years, compared to the 10 years it's taken Thorfinn. He was indirectly telling him that he didn't truly hate Askeladd. He was comfortable in that place and with those people. Facing himself in the reflection of his dagger, alone in the snow, feeling his only sense of purpose fading away, it was truly frightening.

@@pupykig4914 it only seems that way because we almost never listen to thorfinn's inner thoughts, but his actions tell a lot of what goes in his mind. Whenever he's lost looking at the horizon, at the sky, at the birds, he wonders about what possibilities lie beyond what he sees in front of him. Whenever he's staring at his blades, cleaning them, he's questioning his purpose. His real desires are shown in his dreams, he wants his family, a normal life, but then the dream always falls apart, he's reminded of why he can't have what he wants. Thus, he comes to the same conclusion over and over. I mean, he even feels guilty about murdering others, because his dad reprimands him in his dreams.
I disagree. In this season Thorfinn is supposed to be a one-dimensional character. That's why the last episode is titled "The End of Prologue. The next season is the time when Thorfinn finally becomes a complex character after his character arc.

Normally the king (villain) somehow survives and the dude attacking gets caught or something, this was so new and refreshing, seeing the king die without any plot armour stuff
The split-second decision that Askellad makes - killing the king to protect his mother's homeland, saving King Canute and knowing that all of that is going to be possible only if he dies this moment by the hands of King Canute. Damn, dude. I got chills writing this. The writing is so damn good.

Also one of my favorite antagonist. Not a villain but an antagonist since he is the antihero/main characters hurdle. But still dayum he is ome of the best of the best

@@aqilahmad2075 he's a Welsh dane that hates his Danish side and vikings for their violent and unruly nation. He wants to protect Wales, his mother's country from invasion from these so called savages, but the hypocrisy is he's lived all his life as a viking, and only at the end we find out he has that self hatred within him. He also subjugates himself to a Dane (canute) who he considers civil. In the end, he sacrifices himself for Canute to rule, and Wales to not be invaded
That's such a sad ending for thorfinn and great job for Finishing Vinland saga ~

This is the best story so far of an anime I’ve ever watch, I started hating Askeladd, but at the end, I started liking him. It shows how life can turn out in a long way, even Askeladd was a true hero in a different way.

It's easy to hate Askeladd for killing Thors but Askeladd is such a genius and unpredictable character. He's got so much depth to him and he winded up becoming one of my favorites in season one.
Revenge is all Thorfinn had for so long. And when he lost his purpose, he immediatly thought of venging Askeladd: he attacked Canute as almost a reflex.
So well written, so well done! And it just keeps getting better in the next arc! A lot of themes are thoroughly explored and it gives a whole new meaning to peace and being a true warrior. The tears man, I wish I could forget it and reread it all over again!
Thorfin has moved on out of his hatred at the end and truly felt despair of askeladd's passing. That was shown by how he drops his knife to reach out to askeladd's dead body. That's the only noticeable development in thorfin in this season and it's big.
I love how the dagger drop and the introduction to the other characters made everyone quiet, and take in the animation and music, and just be confused about who these random three characters are.
最後の形見の短剣を手放してアシェラッドに手を伸ばすシーンは複雑な心情を表しててグッときます。2期も期待。
父の言った本当の戦士とはどんなものであったかを思い出せば、アシェラッドの死がストーリー上どれだけ重要なものかわかります🥲
for anyone interested: the name lucius artorius castus is a real person who is said to be the inspiration for the story of King Arthur, who probably was not a real person.

YOOOOOOOO!!! I didn't pick it up the first time before I read the manga but those characters at the end that we see at different parts of the world are the most important characters in the series from here on out.
The scene where Thorfinn drops his father's dagger and the ensuing flashbacks in the reflection of the blade speaks volumes. With Askeladd's death, Thorfinn's quest for seeking revenge is over. Thorfinn now has to move on, as Askeladd mentioned. Even though Thorfinn grew more hesitant to kill Askeladd (as seen in the third duel where he stood frozen until Askeladd tossed his sword and angered him) his sole purpose in life was still to murder Askeladd with his father's dagger. Askeladd speaks to him in his dying words about moving on and going further than his father has been. As Thorfinn is being dragged away, he slowly releases his grip on his father's dagger and drops it on his own, it is not someone else taking it from him. This is him finally realizing his self-imposed life's journey is over by dropping the instrument he was to use to exact revenge for his father. The reflection in his dropping blade then shows the reflection of his journey up until that point where seeking revenge was all he wanted in life. The final two images were a younger Thorfinn (the start of the journey) and then the current Thorfinn being carried away (the end of the journey). At least that's my take.

I don't know but this Anime is so great .they had a well written evolving characters,from Thors sacrificing himself to Askeladd , who was the glue and catalyst to the whole season 1 ..he was pulling all characters together, he developed 2 people, king Canute and Thorfinn, both wanted to create a peaceful world with opposite means..
After reading the manga and seeing the "new" characters I fucking smiled in delight
He never killed thorfinn in the first place...Legend

I read the wiki and found out that most of the characters actually existed. And the plot itself is taken from the stories. Even the main character is real. And most importantly, even Thorkel existed :))

The worst thing the author did is make the prologue so fcking good
Askelaad is arguably the best villain in all of media imo. Whose a better villain throughout all of media(movies, tv, literature, comics, manga etc, there are less than 5 that I would put near his level). Askeladd is easily in the top 3 "love to hate" villains all time. He's similar to King Bradley, Heath Ledgers Joker, Chrollo Lucilfer, Liquid Snake, Dr DOOM, T-800(Arnold), Nosferatu Zodd, Hisoka, Darth Vader, Saint of all Killers, etc because they are all kinda good guy's in their own twisted way, or they at least understand what a good guy is but chose not to walk that path(like askeladd). True villains are dudes that are completely oblivious to whats good and whats evil, they just use those terms as words to manipulate others for their own benefit. Or they do know whats good and whats evil and they willingly choose to do evil for some insane reason. I love these kinda villains, examples include Agent Smith, Sauron(Saturn/Satan/Santa), the Joker, Ms Lippy, T-1000, Griffith(from berserk), Mike Myers(not dr evil), Jason Voorhees, DIO(jojo), Shooter McGavin, Big Ern McCracken, Skeletor, Darth Sideous, Darken Rahl(most slept on villain in all of fantasy, aint nobody do evil better than Darken Rahl, dudes introduction is the best intro for a villain in all of fiction/media/everything, no other villain has a more evil introduction(McCracken pulling a Munson actually kinda comes close hahaha)).
