16:49, When Thorfinn said he would never be a slave while talking to the slave girl, I feel like it was also intentionally ironic of his current situation at the time, him saying that, while basically being enslaved by his revenge quest for Askeladd and also being a slave to the idea of "honor" that Thorfinn had for Thors which prevented him from just killing Askeladd in his sleep. He said if he was the slave he would just kill his master and run (if i remember correctly), but he couldn't kill Askeladd.
What happened to Einar's sister as terrible as it may sound in that very specific situation is prolly the best outcome she could get and it's extremely horrifying to think about... This will be both heartbreaking and enlightening arc of Vinland so far

Thorfinn is short for a few reasons: 1. This episode takes place in the year 1015 and the average height was smaller. 2. He grew up malnourished as he didn't eat with the others.
I expect some people to dislike these kind of episodes with not much action but honestly i love them, give me a good story with good characters and world building and no senseless action and i'm happy.
in fact Thorfinn was no longer a child at the end of the season. Her age is said to be around 17 years old, but he has always been short. Not many years have passed in this arc. He is apparently 19 at the start of this arc.
@@teddymecheto I think the Japanese have a very different view of aging than the West because characters in their 20s always look like they are in their 30s or more 😅😅

I'm so happy you kind of recognized Einar from the ending of season 1! That's not a given since there are reactors out there starting S2 who have forgotten even key plot points about the end of season 1 (and didn't bother to do a quick catch-up). Also great you seem to remember what Thorfinn said to Hordaland (the slave girl from episode 8) about slavedom. I hope you're gonna enjoy this season! 😊
From France i love this reaction vinland saga is so amazing and this season is beautiful happy to see the good job of mappa and the opening and ending are so beautiful
King Sweyn(Svhen) of Denmark offered Askeladd a stark choice: the security of his motherland Wales, or the life of his master, Prince Canute(Can-oot). Askeladd's answer was immediate: He struck off Sweyn's head. The meeting of military leaders erupted into chaos after this act of regicide(the action of killing a King), but Canute recognized the play at hand, and killed Askeladd himself, thereby accomplishing Askeladd's aim. Canute immediately took the throne. But after witnessing the end of his father figure, Thorfinn was left empty inside. He was eventually sold into slavery to work on a farm.
Peak is here, hopefully Teddy you will enjoy this masterful arc! First half of the episode is original content and the rest is in the manga. Also, as a swede is weird hearing in an anime old Norse with an Icelandic accent.🤣 Btw, have you ever thought about starting UA-cam channel memberships?
Such a great first episode, makes you remember how brutal the Vinland world can be. Also already so invested in Einars character. Also hope this does get more popular this season, like you mentioned season 1 was going up against heavy hitters. Another thing that affected its popularity was that it was exclusively on Amazon Prime which put off a lot of people. Just happy that this season is on Crunchyroll and Netflix finally streaming weekly episodes as well.
Translation Notes Hávamál A poem found within the Poetic Edda, a collection of Old Nordic poems. The title translates to "sayings of the high one," and the contents of the poem are attributed to Odin. The Japanese translation, when not simply titled "Hávamál," is known as "the song of Odin" or "the proverbs of Odin." Hávamál is a gnomic poem, meaning that its verses are meant to serve as lessons or advice on customary topics, such as the laws of hospitality for both guest and host.
Happy New Year Teddy🎆!! Thorfinn lost his purpose/fight when he dropped that short sword, what an interesting place to see Thorfinn though (considering his character). That short text puts Thorfinn & Einar as two sides of the same coin.
First off, just watched your S1 reaction and was happy to see you already did ep1 of s2! Loved your reaction and will continue watching you! These three series: Berserk, Vagabond & Vinland Saga, embody the true potential of the seinen genre. They are the big 3 of seinen. It's not so niche! I really hope we get a full adaptation of Vinland Saga and maybe... a (good) Berserk and Vagabond anime in the future. This arc is peak and I hope you will enjoy it. Farmland Saga is a masterpiece.
Not a history buff but I think the reason why they kill all villagers is due to the fact they don't want anyone coming to save the village will they stay there
I think they were nomads so they moved around a lot and probably didn't want survivors telling villages close by what was happening but still - not like that would cause them problems. These buff three winged wardrobe tall ass men 😭 they're basically unstoppable
i must say, MAPPA did a perfect job at animation, so far so good. i hope that they don't have to use the CGI shit in the future, especially for this anime.
Say what you want, but Mappa's cgi is better than Wit's was, which was noticeable in S1 but a lot of people overlooked it because the rest was just very good.
CGI helps studios produce more efficient content, hating on high quality CGI just reduces the amount of animes you get per year. In the past CGI was terrible, nowadays like this show it looks "OKAY" or even good stop bitching about it lol. In couple of years you will not even notice it's cgi.

Wait they used cgi in this episode ? honestly i did not notice at all so it must've been either very good cgi or something not very noticeable.
I barely noticed it during this episode and I'm one of the AoT s4 CGI Titan haters, so you're probably REALLY nitpicking the CGI for this episode.
