As a Memphian it's comical to me that she speaks of this as jim crow or targeted racism when all 5 officers who killed Tyree Nichols were black and profiled him that night. When that brutal killing took place we had just gotten a new Police Chief who is a black woman from the Atlanta area who instated harsh "scorpion squad" tactics. The reason this murder didn't get much national attention like George Floyd's murder was BECAUSE of the skin color of the men who killed him. I once worked with a girl who was convinced the cops were harassing her because she got pulled over three times in one week... turns out she had no working break lights. Wasnt a blown fuse or bad relay... they all went out over a period of months. I even offered to help her replace them, and told her i would take her to autozone on the lunch break to get new bulbs... which she refused. She didnt think she should be required to have functioning break lights... and that the police were just being racist and trying to 'get her' over a 'technicality'.
If this wasnt just one silly girl, and is actually representative of some cultural aspect, then im not surprised at all that there is a disparity in traffic stops.
