The vet in calgary alberta that killed my beautiful female american bulldog broke that oath when he injected pentobarbitol into her vein and killed a living breathing creature(my best friend) i will promise not administer a lethal substance to my patient. He looked at her quickly determined she was full of cancer without biopsies or blood tests.told my girlfriend she was in pain wouldnt make it..my god he killed her then cremated her no necropsy without a body.i will miss her till my death.. this killing has to end we can make massive reserves for wildlife but they say too many dogs?? Why? Im devestated over loosing her.lets stop killing and start saving docs..dr jones is a real vet a real hero godbless you dr jones. God will execute judgement on the dr deaths

@@VeterinarySecrets My vet just prescribed my Frenchie 25mg of carprofen and 100mg of gabapentin.. I'm supposed to give him one tablet each every 12 hours for 10 days due to pain in his leg or knee joint specifically. Jumping off beds or something is what did it. What do you think about this???

Yes, Rimadyl was instrumental in killing my Cane Corso. My poor boy had to be euthanized. No dog of mine will ever again ingest that toxic medication. Pet parents, do your homework. Just because veterinarians recommend a medication for your beloved pet, does not necessarily mean its safe.

Thank you so much for discussing this subject! I just commented on your video of losing Jessie, I just lost my mini aussie. He had neurological damage, hip dysplasia, flat knees, kidney issues, could only walk in circles etc, etc. but he was so full of love I wouldn't give up. our vet had him on rimadyl. now I can't help but wondering if it contributed to his stroke. keep up the great work

Thank you so much for this video. My vet just gave me 60 for my dog, for his torn ACL. He had given me 30 back in January, because of his hip dysplasia and even after I told him at the vet visit two days ago, I wasn’t comfortable with Rimadyl, he thought it was the best option for my dog. I’ve been exploring other options besides surgery for his ACL and pain meds. So thank you again. I will not be giving these to him.

and Furosemide on 12/24/15 for arthritis and excess water retention to

Damn Doc. I wasn't really expecting a retort, but thank you for your condolences. We made our peace before hand. Of course Christmas eve, no one is open, it was raining, and she insisted on staying outside. So I planted a large umbrella over her until she was ready to come in. She had a great life here. I rescued her as a pup from certain euthanasia. 15 years of baked fish, pork, chicken, mixed veggies, oatmeal, supplements and one half cup of lamb & rice ACANA. She crossed over on a full belly of good stuff, lol. Bless you Doc.

Thanks for sharing. However, I have a major success story with Rimadyl. My dog was 14 when his arthritis got so bad he could hardly walk. The topic of putting him down was circulating. Our vet told us about Rimadyl and was very transparent about its dangers. However, we didn’t have much to lose at this point. Suddenly our dog became a puppy running and playing again. He had veterinary check ups frequently and had no noticeable adverse reactions to the drug. He lived to by 17. It was totally worth it for us to take the gamble since the alternative was euthanasia. I’m so happy we were able to get a few more years with our beloved dog thanks to Rimadyl. I don’t recommend for younger dogs. Consult with your vet and use at your own discretion.

Is it normal for 1 pill to cause this? Today will be 48 hrs from that one pill and she still has diarrhea with bloody stool. The vet gave her one day worth of ulcer. But that's it. When your own dog is one of the statics, the numbers mean nothing. The only thing that matters is a dog died that should not have had to. This goes for any thing given or injected into your dogs and cats. I had a GSD that reacted to vaccines and went on chemo at 1 yr of age for 3 years to save her life. She was euthanized at 6 years of age because the chemo destroyed her spine. Don't tell me vaccines protect more than they harm. She came to teach me to stop the madness of what we feed, inject, and give to our dogs and cats to protect from disease, fleas and heartworm. It is all a toxic mess and I stopped the madness with that GSD......AND I have never had such healthy dogs as I do now.

I have an appointment with my vet this week. My dog has hip dysplasia and now after learning about what you conveyed regarding Rimadyl, I am afraid for him to get it if it's prescribed for him. I have been giving him Curamin which has Boswellia and Curamin with BCM-95 curcumin and BosPure boswellia with DLPA and nattokinase. I didn't think it was working, because he has not been eating. According to what I read by Terry Naturally website, this is an excellent combination. I am unsure on what to do. I don't want him in pain. Oh and I do have him on Cosamin DS as well.

My pitbull was given Rymadil after being injured by a car. Six weeks later he was euthanized for toxicity. I had no idea Rymadil caused this. When he got sick and stopped eating I tried everything. He dropped half his body weight. I finally found a vet in my area who wasn't afraid of him and it was too late. The vet said he'd been given or gotten ahold of something toxic. I couldn't figure out what it could be!

1)Is the Aspirin for Canines sold at pet stores the same as buying for human consumption? I'm sure its less expensive that way.

Thank you for the information. I would be suspicious that your 'haters' were from the drug company that produces Rimadyl as they tend to do stuff like that when an article points out side effects or problems with a drug. I am an owner of a dog who, under vet care and monitoring, was given the drug and within a few days had massive negative side effects. He was almost one of the statistics that had to be euthanized due to the side effects. We were luck in that his treatment turned him around just before that happened but I have since refused to consider NSAID's for my other dogs. No one should ever give a pet any medication until they know what to look for in the way of side effects and know the risks. Sometimes the risks really out weigh the benefits when their are other avenues to try.

You can talk to your vet about another NSAID, such as Metacam- you can ask if they would consider Gabapentin which seems to help with chronic pain/ neurologic deficits. Ideally you would get a diagnosis.

Is there anything that can be done for the neurological damage done by Carprofen? My dog was perfectly healthy - went in for a corneal abrasion - and thanks to only 4 doses of Carprofen he now has violent seizures. CBD oil appears to be helping prevent further seizures, but he still shakes every minute or so and if he stands still he loses balance and falls over. He also has some disorientation - he sniffs everything as if it's new to him. His blood work is normal - he does not have the liver or kidney problems some others have had, just the neurological problems.

Also what does it mean by the vet had to euthanize 1800 because of Rimadyl... were there side effects so bad that they were forced to euthanized or were they just taking this medication and the veterinarian found a problem and the dog needed to be euthanized.

Thanks Doc. Helping us caring pet lovers understand the disturbing side effects and potential ramifications is appreciated. Agree with Gina that your daily work with animals qualifys you be a spokesperson and be a voice to those wee souls, helping us humans dog buddies make more informed choices. The naysayers (drug company voices) try to spin numbers to discredit your fact findings. Facts are our friends. And it's not the numbers even as bad as these are each and every unit of one (1) of the individual deaths is important as can be understood by Christine as with loss of Lg. Whether 4,157 or whatever number, each is an event that moves any caring pet companion with concern and sadness if the animal is in distress. Just as we are finding prevention through good nutrition for humans is better than drugs, your posting is a timely reminder of consideration when our four legged buddies need help. We still need vet services for those bites, bumps, and things that happen out there, so your observations are appreciated. And yes, sometimes a drug needs to be used - but with due care and need. Keep being the impartial voice for our four legged companions and educating us on alternatives. Your very much appreciated by tens of thousands. kindest regards, Emmet

Hi my dog Chico had a negative reaction to Rimadyl within about a week of use. My dog had abdominal pain, diarrhea and bloody stools. I discontinued use immediately after one day of hospitalization in which he got fluids and probiotics. At the time, I believe the initial Rimadyl prescription was unnecessary. Really my dog was young (about 4 or 5) and not all that achy and only exhibited mild symptoms from his hip dysplasia and luxating patella. Now however he is 12 years old and he is starting to slow down significantly. I changed his food to the Six Fish formula from Orijen about a year and a half ago due to the high omega fatty acids that are already in the food. My question is, how much more antinflammatory supplement should I be administering to help my buddy's arthritis? he is eating about 1/2 cup daily of this food and he is a 5 lb chihuahua. Thank you for your awesome videos by the way, I am learning a ton! I am an aspiring vet and hope to work with wildlife, exotics, domestic animals and alternative medicine.

Talked to my friend who worked for a holistic vet and she taught me about over vaccinating dogs and to opt for the titer test instead. So we have done that every year until she turned 6. Then I read more info on my own and even the titer is now pointless. She won't be getting any vaccines anymore or titer tests. I was under the impression it was necessary to receive the heartguard RX, but when I asked the vet, the only thing needed is the exam and the blood test. We don't even do fecal tests unless we can tell she's having something going on. So this year the vet is like, "you're not doing vaccines today?" i said, Nope. Just the blood test and exam. She said, "you need to make sure she is up to date on her vaccines." i said, yeah we usually do titer, she's been good all these years. but we won't be doing titer this year." She said, "ok she's due in april for her annual, are you gonna do it in april?" (she must not be listening to me at all...) "Nope."
Needless to say we're switching vets.

Dr. Karen hi Karen my little dachshund has just been put on 15 mg tramadol as well she is 15 lb, a little overweight. She has a crushed spine they told me her whole spine is bad she still gets around good but was crying out of nowhere and sleeping under my bed moaning that's what made me know to take her in plus she was holding her head low so she had a pinched nerve in her neck. After x-rays they put her on tramadol 1/4 of a pill twice a day. This seems to have helped her now they have her on rimadyl 1/2 of 25 mg twice a day after watching this video I'm not quite sure what to do😕. May I ask how your furry friend is doing? And any information you might share.😁

My vet prescribed my dog rimadyl as a pain reliever for a dental surgery, gave it to her last night for the first time with the antibiotics they also prescribed and a skin treatment. My dog had a seizure like episode and was completely out of it after for the rest of the night. Did research and found multiple sources saying it can cause paralysis and seizures even though it is rare. Called the vet and she insisted that seizures are NOT a side effect of rimadyl and not to believe things I see online. I’m starting to not believe the vet, obviously it happened. She insists that I try to give her rimadyl again, Or an alternative. Not going to happen. I’d rather my dog be in slight pain from a tooth being extracted than die from kidney failure or a seizure. We’ll see how it goes.

What about Prevacox? I hear horrid stories about that to. I was told about T-Relief Arnica but doesn't that have side affect as well? All of these drugs are expensive and who knows what is safe. It's exhausting trying to find a medicine that is safe without the fear of God that you may be killing your pet. Interactions with other drugs should be addressed but no one seems to be willing to explain the seriousness of that.

got an acupuncture and laser therapy session set up for tomorrow. i've dropped my dog's rimadyl dose down to half the dose the vet said to give her. So once very 24 hours instead of twice a day. It seems to be enough that she's not uncomfortable. I'm hoping I won't have to give her one tomorrow if her treatments help. Already giving her supplements and massage so it's just time now.

she's doing great after acupuncture :) usually by day 2 off rimadyl, she doesn't want to move much. but she's moving! the night after acupuncture, she felt too good and started playing by herself, i had to lock her in a crate so she'd calm down and not reinjure herself. :( sure enough later that night she slowed down a lot and next day was slow, BUT still moving. so that was good. massages with helichryum and lavender plus diet is keeping her going. each day she does better, like today she was only stiffest/slowest in the morning. after a good massage and food she was pretty good the rest of the day!
so if anyone else happens to read this and their dog has a soft tissue injury.. there's hope without meds :)

I can't help but to think that if I keep giving my dog rimadyl. I read about the effects of the drug and clearly he has a couple of these symptoms, urine accidents and now his urine has blood. I'm suspending the drug right away. I'm very annoyed that many now the side effects and they keep giving this medicine. Zeus needs an antiinflamatory medicine for his discal hernia so he was given rimadyl and gabapentin.

Our dog went to the ER late 2013 and was given a shot for pain. She had been pacing and was restless prior and we weren't sure what was wrong with her. After seeing your video, I checked what she was given because after this shot, she started panting heavily and became very antisocial, acted as if she was upset with me or didn't know me and was not herself. Doctor told us to continue the drugs in pill form, which I did not do. She recovered but am wondering after seeing her medical report, if the injection given was the drug above since the pill was mentioned after to continue. I'm curious because after this she has developed allergies and other health issues that we have yet been able to figure out and treat effectively...cough, postnasal drip, allergies, nasal discharge, etc. She was very healthy prior to this. This is what the medical report said:

      Hi Deborah,
It may or may not be the cause. Likely the big takeaway is avoiding it in the pill form, and then being very clear asking prior to any meds being injected into your dog

My dog has permanent brain damage from just 4 doses of 25mg of this terrible drug. The number of dogs affected is WAY underreported due to too many vets ignoring cause and effect. I tried to report adverse affects to the drug company and was not able to get through to anyone who cared. I don't know that generic drug makers even track this stuff.

It’s pretty low to label anyone who you disagree with as a “hater.” Just because people question or disagree doesn’t mean they are hating.
I watched your video because I wanted to learn more about Carprofen and I was curious what you’re responses were going to be to the two counter points made by the “haters.” Two things were left out. 1) you did not address the person’s point about the incredibly small percentage of cases compared to the millions of dogs who have been medicated without issue. Was that not a valid point? If something is fatal to only 1% of 1% I’m not sure I agree with your dire warnings about the drug. 2) you stated the two numbers you added together (deaths and euthanasia) but you did not explain why the euthanasia figure is relevant.
Sure there are incredibly isolated cases of dogs having reactions and dying from the drug and it is important people understand that, but the way in which you are presenting yourself makes it seem like this is a much bigger problem than it really is. For the few thousand animals that have had complications there are millions of dogs who have benefitted from the drug. My own pup, a 12yr old boxador, couldn’t even sit or lay down without his knees making him groan in pain. Carprofen allows him to go for walks and spend his twilight years in comfort instead of pain. Millions of others can say the same thing.
